Fantastic picture dream!! I can't wait till my scan Grin

I'm getting used to being fatter now.. loving having boobs. The belly... not so much!

I'm 18 weeks 5 days today. I'm not sure if I've felt the baby move or if it was wind! Anyone else the same? It must be so reassuring to feel movement.

RasperryInAMelon · 17/12/2016 10:13

Those who mentioned last week that have anterior placenta or have experience of it from previous pregnancies - when did you start to feel movement?

I'm having horrid vivid dreams at the moment and can't help but worry... got another 3 weeks before our next scan!

yellowismyfavourite · 17/12/2016 10:30

Rasperry does an anterior placenta mean at the front? At the scan yesterday they said mine was at the front near the top. I have only been feeling proper movements in the last week and I am 20w+6. Scan was good yesterday... was expecting lots of wriggles but baby was very chilled. We didn't find out if it was a boy or girl...

Has anyone else had someone ask if they can touch their bump? A colleague of DH asked last night and I didn't know how to say no... what's a good way of saying no nicely?

RasperryInAMelon · 17/12/2016 10:43

Yellow mine is at the front but low also at the moment. I've heard that it's quite normal to not feel movement, but with it being my first I just don't know what to expect.

McBaby · 17/12/2016 11:55

Raspberry I had an anterior placenta with my first. I felt some movements from 19 weeks with her and thought she moved a lot. I also had long period when I didn't feel her move and went in for monitoring a couple of times and they did extra scans to show me how much she was moving, which was loads I just couldn't feel any of it. So it just depended where she was positioned in relation to the placenta.

Second time I had a posterior one and there was so much more constant movement from 17 weeks and it was so much more uncomfortable having the movement 24/7. This one looks to be the same 20 weeks on Monday and from 6pm - 7am it just doesn't stop moving, and when ever I sit down it's wriggling.

So definite pros and cons of both!

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 17/12/2016 12:06

I had an anterior placenta last time. I didn't feel any movement at all until 23 weeks. I was very frustrated not to feel her moving.

This time I have just felt the first movements at 17 weeks, so perhaps placenta will be posterior? Or just because it's my second.

Yellow - I've not had anyone ask but the Mum in law just plunged in and touched it this morning! I must admit I was quite annoyed - I'm not a touchy feely person anyway and felt a bit violated.

Told hubby who agreed it was odd - he's not even felt my tummy as it's not particularly bump like. Fingers crossed he'll get the hint and tell her to not do it in future.

Rabbitykins55 · 17/12/2016 20:22

Yellow yes! It's really irritating. I don't have any advice on how to politely tell someone they can't touch because I've just said it's not for touching! Most people are understanding but a couple have been persistent.

Badgerbird · 18/12/2016 00:18

Great scan news dream, savage and yellow Smile

newshoes can you ask your midwife about your lack of weight gain worries? I would have thought it's ok but ofcourse I couldn't say. I'm glad you're feeling better though and good luck with your scan next week. The wait is nerve wracking isn't it Confused

Loving the bump shoney! Yes I think bump pics in new year is a lovely idea. I'm enjoying having boobs too lala!!

Sonnet18 · 18/12/2016 06:45

My bump is too small to be touched at the moment but last time round I got lots of inappropriate comments and bump touching. You grit your teeth and ignore it otherwise you look like a bitch, I'm afraid.
I'm not touchy feeling at all and hate when people take my dd off me for a cuddle when she clearly doesn't know who they are!

EsmesBees · 18/12/2016 06:57

Sonnet I hate that too and have the perfect solution. Just say, be careful, she's a bit of a biter. Makes them back straight off.

Nurse15 · 18/12/2016 09:18

Laughing at that esme Grin

beachsands · 18/12/2016 10:24

Hi all. Been meaning to post but had log in problems.. I'm 17 wks now. Feeling baby a bit. Some days more than others. Number three so expecting to have movement earlier. have put on about 8lbs so far which I think is good considering my healthy eating plan doesn't exist these days. While I'm hungry I don't want to eat much do I grab what's about. Will try be more careful as the weeks go by.

Sonnet18 · 18/12/2016 10:35

Haha! esme I love that! Will be trying that straight away!

Rustler74 · 18/12/2016 15:42

I'd be extremely uncomfortable with people other than my better half to touch my bump and I'd most definitely say it just like that!
I've actually lost a bit of weight since the last few weeks because my appetite is not at all good due to being unwell. I get hungry but that disappears ver quickly when starting to eat.
I was quite ravenous in the beginning of my pregnancy and I would even go hangry if I didn't obey my hunger, so that is quite the change.
Many joining in now, so nice to 'meet' you all!

FoxMulder · 18/12/2016 15:59

Don't think anyone touched my bump in my first preg. What a weird thing to do!

MrsJW15 · 18/12/2016 17:22

A friend on facebook keeps complaining about random people touching her bump. Sounds very weird. Hasn't happened to me yet but I don't have much bump!

A friend sent this list from Which? on what products people have and haven't found useful, which I thought was quite helpful press.which.co.uk/whichpressreleases/revealed-the-baby-products-not-worth-buying/

coxsorangepippin · 18/12/2016 19:03

Hmm... So slings and swaddles aren't useful? But I should get a nappy bag instead of using a rucksack?

Does anyone with older DCs have views on those?

McBaby · 18/12/2016 19:18

I found a sling very useful but only if your baby likes it and you find one which suits you and is comfortable. I had a baby born with dd1 (as I didn't know better) it was so uncomfortable. Got an ergo when she was bigger and it was amazing we can still carry dd2 in it at 2.5years. We also borrowed the closer Caboo for a couple of months when dd2 was little which was great till she got to about 14lb and i found it too uncomfortable.

Never used the swaddle we had they both hated it.

I had a change bag with dd1 when I used the sling a lot a swapped to a small hand bag or rucksack so haven't seen the change bag since dd1 was 6montbs old

MrsJW15 · 18/12/2016 21:36

Cox the person who sent it to me said that he hadn't had much luck with slings, but his wife had. Also his older child didn't like them but his younger child does. Lots of my friends have got on well with them, so we'll give them a try.

I can definitely feel movement tonight - I think even from the outside. Very relieved! Two days until the scna.

EsmesBees · 18/12/2016 21:46

Depends so much on the baby coxsorange. That's why those 'what was your best buy' threads on here are so long and contradictory. The only way mine napped when tiny was slings and swaddles. And I hardly used my expensive nappy bag.

savagehk · 18/12/2016 22:11

Top 10 least useful

Cotmobile - never slept in cot so not much use. We'd been given one.
Door baby bouncer - never had one and i think no longer recommended?!
Baby washing (top and tail) bowls. - never had one and i think useless
Nappy disposable bin - used reusable nappies, never tried
Swaddling blanket - bought but never used. What was bloomin fantastic was our from newborn suitable merino sleeping bag. (As already mentioned some babies may need to be swaddled otherwise they wake themselves up)
Breast pump (manual) - used electronic
Nappy stacker - useless if using reusable nappies
Bumbo seat - fantastic
Fabric sling/ Standard baby carrier - fantastic
Baby reins - fantastic

Top 10 most useful

Stair gate - never used one
Baby change bag - used a dedicated backpack style one
Electric steam steriliser kit - never used
Baby monitor (audio) - never used
Baby monitor (video) - never used
Digital ear thermometer - never used
Microwave steam steriliser kit - only used steam steriliser bags for the breast pump bits. For bottles for breast milk we used glass ones and hot soapy water. I'd be more cautious using formula though.
Baby sleeping bag - see comment above under swaddling
Baby bouncer/ rocker chairs - fantastic but you don't need any fancy one, ours was very basic and worked well. The electronic ones seem way ott
Moses basket - we used the carry cot off the pram we were given. Looking for something this time as we don't have it anymore, will either get a crib or Moses basket for downstairs naps

Brightsmoke · 19/12/2016 07:08

Thanks for the link MrsJW, and the tips Savage, found both very useful. It's interesting to hear what people do and dont like/find useful!

20 week scan for me today, and I'm literally dreading it being obvious on the scan, but there's no way I will be able to not look lol.

Have felt baby move loads recently, so much so it kept me awake last night!

Hope everything goes well for anyone with a scan today/this week :)

savagehk · 19/12/2016 08:08

Anyone thinking of reusable nappies, little lambs will be having a sale soon, Facebook followers get first dibs. These worked very well for us (used the two part fitteds) and they are very good value esp if you get the sale bargains! www.facebook.com/littlelambnappies/

RasperryInAMelon · 19/12/2016 08:14

Woken up this morning (after sod all sleep as it is) with a full ache almost like period cramps this morning... anything to be worried about?
