Grow let us know how you get on with the dream genii, I'm considering it. Although I spoke to my midwife at the 16 week appointment about waking up on my back and she said not to worry too much about it - if you wake up on your back and roll over it's fine, it's more that you shouldn't lie on your back to try to get to sleep. I've been trying to read about it to check if that's right, but really I roll around so much - last night I woke up in the middle of the night lying on my belly!

Rustler74 · 19/12/2016 18:01

Seriously can't wait to start maternity leave tbh! Can go as early as 11 March and I may do that for one of the trusts I work for and keep going for my other employer. Must speak to HR ASAP really.
Raspberry I have my scan on the same day!

Rustler74 · 19/12/2016 18:06

MrsJW when I went to pregnancy club the midwives told me that it really didn t matter so much in which position you lie at this stage. If there's a circulation problem due to your position, it will make you uncomfortable before it does the baby, wake you up and you'll turn over automatically. Lying on your belly is also fine as long as you can, and if you're comfy then why not? That really put me at ease.

Badgerbird · 19/12/2016 18:07

Midwife today told me after 20 weeks it's a def no to lying/sleeping on back as it cuts of blood supply to which my sister (who was with me & had my nephew 13 yrs ago) pointed out that she'd never been told anything about how to sleep. It does make you wonder how serious all this is! She also laughed when I asked her about physio for bad back Blush and told me to see gp who would print out some exercises for me.

Baby sounded like a galloping horse!!What's that old wives tale about boy or girl if it sounds like a horse or a train??

Loving the positive scans with the Buddha bellies and crazy eyeballs!!! Grin

RasperryInAMelon · 19/12/2016 18:13

Adventure I'll be going on 3 weeks leave at 36 weeks at the end of April and then starting Mat Leave from my EDD (May 24th)

Total hats off to those of you who have waited and not gone for private scans between the 12 and 20 week. I just couldn't have done it, it's such a long wait! Looking forward to seeing little bean again in a few weeks Smile

Rustler have you decided if you'd like to find out gender?

PeachIcedT · 19/12/2016 18:33

Fantastic to hear about all your scans today! How long does the 20 week scan tend to take? I have to go back to work afterwards but I don't think I'll get there until late.

Lots of talk about big bumps - I've been having a bit of a moment worrying that mine is tiny considering I'm 19 weeks. If I look front on I do not look pregnant at all. I don't know how on earth it can be the size of a grapefruit Confused

But feeling many a twinge/spasm low down so I'll hope that's him or her telling me they are ok.

Rustler74 · 19/12/2016 18:36

Hi raspberry!
I think we won't find out at the scan, but ask the midwife to write it on a paper and put it in an envelope and seal it. We hope we can contain ourselves a little longer. I will have three more scans due to my age, so hopefully if there are any boy bits they'll be hidden nicely.
I'll attach my first scan if I can. Was on 15 November.

We will see how it goes with my pregnancy but my job with the nice employer is more flexible or can be more adapted for me in later pregnancy whereas the other job in secondary school with PMLD is a lot less flexible. Besides that team lead stresses me out which I can't deal with any longer!

Peach mine took about 30 minutes.

Nurse15 · 19/12/2016 18:50

Working night duty tonight and tomorrow and have a chest infection after having a cold for 3 weeks. Dreading it is not a strong enough phrase!! Confused

teainbed · 19/12/2016 18:50

There was a study that showed a very slight increase in stillbirths when pregnant women didn't sleep on their left. I'd have to dig it out to refresh my memory about how strong the evidence was but that's the reason for the recommendation. If you have a section or forceps the table has a very slight tilt to one side for that reason.

teainbed · 19/12/2016 18:53

www.nhs.uk/news/2011/06June/Pages/mothers-sleeping-position-and-risk-of-stillbirth.aspx

NHS choices news is a good site for when there's something been in the headlines and they look at it and appraise the evidence.

Rustler74 · 19/12/2016 19:13

Oh no nurse! Hope you're better soon! I know how it feels x

littleem89 · 19/12/2016 19:27

I've just bought a genii pillow. It does seem really good, the only thing is it does make me feel really hot at night so that does wake me up! But it's definitely comfy.
Been feeling little kicks over the last week or so and my OH has even felt them which has been amazing Grin

lucieloos · 19/12/2016 19:45

Brilliant news on all the scans and great to hear the genii pillow seems good. I'm still thinking of getting one.

Sonnet18 · 19/12/2016 20:00

I slept on my back right up until baby was born last time! I think it can potentially cut off blood a bit and make you feel a little dizzy and unwell...if that was the case then you would shift position. Not trying to be flippant but I think sleep how you feel comfortable.

Barnes79 · 19/12/2016 20:09

Badger - I'm slightly horrified that you were laughed at when you asked about physio for your back. Physio for pregnant ladies is a specialist field which you have to get additional training in post-qualification. I would suggest most GP's (if not all) are not qualified to give physio exercises. If your midwife wouldn't refer you, your GP should...

I'm a relatively newly qualified physio myself, and have asked to be referred to specialist physio for my back pain. I defo wouldn't trust a GP to treat me as when I hurt my back pre-pregnancy they hadn't a foggiest.

teainbed · 19/12/2016 21:23

Interesting comment Barnes. I'm a GP......

Badger was it the midwife or your sister who laughed when you asked about physio?

MrsJW15 · 19/12/2016 21:39

Sonnet that's what the midwife said - you'd move if you were uncomfortable, so I shouldn't worry about it too much.

Has anyone used the Chicco body pillow? It looks good to me www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H3AINJ0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1GX5LM7USNMDH&coliid=I2PKFE14E5NZK0

Barnes79 · 19/12/2016 22:00

Tea - Blush Sorry.

My GP (about 10yrs ago) told me to "stop doing what hurts your back, as you know what hurts it" and sent me away with pain killers and no follow up or onward referral. I went to occupational health (I worked in admin for NHS) who sent me for a scan and they found I'd herniated my disc and was being considered for surgery at one point. I hope things have improved...

Barnes79 · 19/12/2016 22:02

For the dreamgenii folks - I've got one and found for the first couple of nights it stopped me rolling onto my back, but now the small back pillow has been flattened enough that it doesn't stop me - I've only had it a couple of weeks and almost wish I'd got the full U-shaped sausage-like pillow instead.

teainbed · 19/12/2016 22:12

Well that sounds utterly rubbish and I'm not surprised you lost confidence in them after that!

Added myself riiiiiiiight at the end :) so exciting that some of you are already on your 20 week scans! Ours isn't until 10th January but I can't wait!!

mightymouse76 · 19/12/2016 22:38

Hi everyone. Sorry to butt in with new topic but had bloods taken this morning at hospital consultant appointment.
Just took dressing off to reveal a whacking great angry dark purple swollen lump of a blood bruise. About an inch across and nasty looking! I've been a veritable pin cushion over the years with tests and never marked like this. Is it a preggo thing?!
Either that or poor technique maybe. Nurse wasn't noticeably paying attention...was chatting away to her colleague throughout, who was sitting on the other side of me eating crisps.

MrsJW15 · 19/12/2016 22:46

Mightymouse I am normally fine with blood tests but I had blood taken once at uni (still can't quite remember why!) and ended up with terrible bruising. It was really colourful and looked quite dramatic. Still not quite sure why it happened that particular time. I think I had blood taken again not that long afterwards and was fine. Suspect it may be technique.

mightymouse76 · 19/12/2016 22:55

Thanks Mrs, guess it must get boring doing them day in day out, but still...! I did the unwise thing of googling it and saw something about risk of blood clots in pregnancy which has obviously made me rather alert/awake just as I should be relaxing for bed...! Will watch for any change/pain (as much as I can when I should be sleeping). It's just one anxiety after another, this pregnancy lark! Mainly thanks to google.
