Glad you're feeling a bit better today moo :)

I'm considering getting one tea or at least something that can go off road on muddy walks with me (when little one's out of sling) but haven't looked at anything like buggies etc yet. If you come across anything that looks good please keep me posted and vice versa Smile

savagehk · 15/12/2016 09:58

gurtie yes it can. I never leaked noticeably while pregnant but small amounts of dried milk are hiding in my nipples....

MissMooMoo glad things are looking on the up!

tea I've not had any particularly bizarre ones this time, but had quite a few last time - the strangest thing is how vivid they are when you wake up!

teainbed · 15/12/2016 10:31

Will do badger. Smile

savage they range from bizarre to hideously awful but yes they are so real!

Badgerbird · 15/12/2016 10:38

tea and savage glad to say I seem to be past that phase!! They were pretty weird!! Sometimes violent, very strange or sexy?! Blush Some nights it feels like I'm not asleep long enough in one chunk to have dreams at the minute!!

Nurse15 · 15/12/2016 10:46

Has anyone used slings before? Would love to babywear but zero knowledge and no idea where to start!!

Brightsmoke · 15/12/2016 10:54

Tea, Ive had some odd dreams too!! Nothing too out there, just odd, but so so real!!
I will probably get the bugaboo jogger when baby is around 6 months or so. I'd already dreading having to get my fitness back up to an acceptable level.

I've got next week left at work (4 more alarms, woo) before the new year, then only 3 months left before A/L and Maternity leave for 14 months, I can't wait!!

I hardly slept last night, so am definitely in the whiny, complaining group today!

Rustler74 · 15/12/2016 11:13

badgerbird Yes I'm first time mummy but at 42 lots to go through.
Posted something on General pregnancy but seems like no one getting similar experience.

Glad MissMoo getting better, keep drinking!

Adventuregame · 15/12/2016 11:13

2 more days at work before xmas here - cannot wait for the break - feel like a hamster on a wheel at the moment what with prepping for xmas and negotiating southern train strikes !

Yes nurse - and it's fantastic. I would recommend seeing if there's a sling library or meet near you to try some out.

For a newborn I would recommend a stretchy wrap, the only issue is it takes a little practise to get the thing tied right (took us two goes) but it's much easier if someone shows you (and then it's really simple). A stretchy is nice and supportive for the baby and keeps them close and cosy. A sling meet should have a weighted baby doll for you to try it out with before baby arrives too.

If you can't face tying it each time, there are some carriers suitable from birth (Ergo springs to mind) with a newborn insert. Carriers though do depend on your size (and that of your baby) to be comfy - I'm pretty petite so battled to get the straps tight enough. I know others get on really well with the Close Caboo which is sort of like a stretchy but doesn't need tying each time.

savagehk · 15/12/2016 11:32

worth noting as well that the standard carriers ones you see in shops are often not the best way to carry baby, BabyBjorn I'm looking at you! - ideally baby should face into you (not outward) and should be supported from their bum to their knees, not just at their crotch.
John Lewis does, I think, sell the Ergo, but they also sell the others...

True about babybjorn. For good hip development it is recommended that baby sits with knees higher than hips and you can only achieve that when thighs are well supported.
I'm also hoping to do babywearing and luckily I have an amazing friend who has find this herself and invited me to a local sling library. I wish it was May already!
20 week scan coming up 5 January and it looks like I'm slowly changing my partners mind about finding out gender. He wants to and I don't feel I need to. He nearly pulled me towards his way of thinking but I think the balance may be tipping towards my side...
what are your thoughts?

EsmesBees · 15/12/2016 13:23

I'd recommend a Manduca sling. Can be used from newborn until toddler. Very kind on backs. Plus it's got lots of clips which are useful for keeping them entertained when out and about.

Rustler we didn't find out last time, but I knew it was a girl all along so there wasn't much point in having the surprise really. This time we will be finding out at 20 weeks (because, again, I'm pretty sure what it is).

savagehk · 15/12/2016 13:24

rustler you could ask the sonographer to write it down and seal it in an envelope - if you trust yourselves not to peek :D

FoxMulder · 15/12/2016 13:48

I'm a big fan of slings for my eldest too nurse and I would agree with everything Savage said!

FoxMulder · 15/12/2016 13:50

I'm not finding out the sex. I don't mind either way but DH really doesn't want to know. I think it's a boy.

savagehk · 15/12/2016 14:01

Re finding out gender, we didn't with our first and probably aren't going to this time (unless I change my mind in the next 12 hours... or it's obvious at scan tomorrow).

I don't like having everything gender-specific for a start and (apparently) not knowing makes the pushing phase easier ;) (so says midwife friend).

I personally don't want to start imagining what my baby is before they come out. They will come out with their own looks and personality. I suspect if I was certain I wanted a boy/girl I might want to confirm at the scan in case I got the other - at least then I could mentally prepare. However, I'm happy with a healthy baby. A girl would be nice, as we then have 'one of each', but my boy has been such a pleasure (and I won't have a teenage girl to deal with...) so content with either.

1004Rise · 15/12/2016 14:31

I'm starting to be glad our NHS trust won't tell you the gender... one less decision to make. I've already decided if it's a boy it's getting dressed in pink and a girl in blue... alternatively everything will be white and yellow to keep everyone guessing Wink

Adventuregame · 15/12/2016 14:59

I'm still having a bit of trouble getting used to the fact that mine's a boy. I just wish I could fast forward to May cos I feel like I'll be fine when it comes but when left to my own thoughts I have complete panic !

OP posts:
1004Rise · 15/12/2016 16:14

Adventure I think that's why it's harder to know in advance you start imagining everything before you meet him. I still haven't got it in my head that baby will be a person, sometimes it just feels like I swallowed a beachball.

I have no idea how the Dads cope because at the moment nothing has actually changed for them and they can't feel anything... so beyond a black and white picture at 12 weeks they have nothing to go on.....

Gurtie28 · 15/12/2016 17:12

rustler I don't want to find out but my DH really does...and like rise said, the men don't get to do a lot and so I am letting him make the choice and agreed to find out. I think it will make it more real and exciting for him.
Now it's decided we are finding out I'm am looking forward to it...less than a week to go Smile

Rustler74 · 15/12/2016 17:29

My lovely partner is really involved and caring with me. He loves putting his ear on my tummy and claims he can hear bubbling or gurgling movement. I don't know where I put my stethoscope or I'd have a listen myself doh!
Great arguments for not finding out. I kind of think it might be a girl but am worried that it's wishful thinking and that I'd be disappointed if it isn't. So if I get to see the gender at birth, I'll meet baby for the first time and I'm sure I'll be in love even more than what I am now (no matter if it's a boy or girl, and I think that's fairer on the baby). Does that make sense to any of you?

teainbed · 15/12/2016 17:59

Hana baby carrier is lovely too and not as complicated as a wrap.

You wouldn't hear much with a stethoscope Rustler! Pinard or Doppler is the only way.

yellowismyfavourite · 15/12/2016 18:47

I have been told that once you can feel baby moving, you can put an empty toilet roll over the baby, and your partner can use it to listen to the baby movements, so long as they don't touch it. We are going to try this weekend.
