Hope scans go well today!!

Gggggrrrrr mrsjw how annoying!! Is it on any other time this week? I was so looking forward to mine on sat but it got cancelled. Went for big walk in woods instead, longest since I've been preggo :)

I got her DVD 1004 but was too tired to try it. Now I've got more energy I can't bloody find it!! Will check out app.

Glad you're feeling better gurtie and yes I think it is poss to enjoy this pregnancy thing as we hopefully come out of the other side of exhaustion and sickness, get our 20 week scans and our gorgeous bumps Smile

MrsJW15 · 13/12/2016 16:33

No, Badger, only once a week, so I'm really annoyed! We also didn't do as much walking this weekend as I'd hoped. There are other classes that I can go to, but this one is free as it's the work gym (that I pay for). Some of the ones near me are so expensive!

Thanks Rise I will have a look. Being able to do the yoga in the evenings would be really good, especially over Christmas!

ShiniBerry · 13/12/2016 16:57

I gave in and bought a dream genii pillow at 16ish weeks to help with back pain. It had helped in that after not sleeping at all for months I actually can sleep a bit now (not much though, thanks pregnancy insomnia!). I've been having pubic bone twinges though so I'm terrified it's turning into PGP.

I went to one of the hospital antenatal physiotherapy classes which was really helpful and demonstrated the proper way to get in and out of bed (keep knees together, roll onto side and lift self with arms not stomach muscles), rolling over in bed (again keep knees together), sitting and standing (don't cross legs, have a small cushion behind mid to lower back, legs at a 90 degree angle to thighs, slouching a no-no which is difficult for me as I always flop out on the sofa after work! To stand scooch to front of seat and sit forward and sway to get momentum if you can't get up, midway put hands on thighs to push off. For walking, take small steps and try avoid hip rotation as much as possible, also pull tail bone in instead of sticking bum out. They also demonstrated exercises for strengthening the pelvic floor exercises (tighten from back to front down there kind of like a zip, hold and release, do short holds and long holds increasing the time held) and transverse abdominal muscles (bit difficult to explain but lie on back with legs bent and extend each leg out).

Sorry this post is a bit long winded but I thought some of the tips maybe helpful for anyone in pain! Anyone suffering lots of pelvic pain should look into getting proper advice. I'm trying to be mindful about posture because I don't want to be in pain and not be able to enjoy being pregnant at all for the next 5 months!!!!

MissMooMoo · 13/12/2016 16:59

I think I am going to start a pregnancy yoga class in the new year, although the one near me seems quite pricey but it is walking distance and local so I will probably just suck it up.

I had a mat leave chat with my boss this morning. I am a nanny so am the only employee. She told me I am more than welcome to come back with the baby if I want to which is a relief. I probably will as their youngest is starting reception in September so it will essentially be an hour in the morning and then 3 in the afternoon and school holidays (which they usually go away for) it is local, a 5 minute walk from our house.

I told her I am not sure exactly when I plan to come back but that I will see how I feel and what kind of baby I have.

When is everyone planning to finish work? We discussed this and I said probably just after Easter but we will re visit this closer to the time to see how I am feeling.

MrsJW15 · 13/12/2016 17:52

Shiniberry that class sounds great. Our hospital offer something similar, but only on Fridays which would mean taking a day off work.

MissMooMoo I'm hoping to stick it out as long as possible. Baby is due 12 May and I am debating whether to come back for a day or two after the 1 May bank holiday or not. I will be moving to a different role after mat leave though (less all consuming, hopefully) and may decide to actually move for the last month before I go.

lucieloos · 13/12/2016 17:56

Missmoo, I'm due the 21st and I hoping to finish the end of the first week in May but all depending on how I'm feeling nearer the time.

yellowismyfavourite · 13/12/2016 18:08

Thanks savage for adding me on the list!
Barnes I sleep on top of a double duvet. Physio said to try sleeping on top of pillows with a small gap between for my hip, but I found it more uncomfortable

Sipperskipper · 13/12/2016 18:47

missmoo im due 8th May and starting mat leave 10th april. Can't wait!

savagehk · 13/12/2016 18:55

I worked till my due date last time (although my due date was 5 days earlier than it should have been) and will probably do something similar this time. Baby was two weeks late (by 'actual' due date) so I'd been home almost 3 weeks by then...

EsmesBees · 13/12/2016 19:19

I worked up to the wire last time and will do the same this time. Dd kept me waiting almost two weeks and I almost went crazy with boredom. I walked for miles and miles trying to kick start labour, ate loads of curry, and generally drove everyone mad with my moaning about how uncomfortable I was.

Barnes79 · 13/12/2016 19:30

I have quite a physical job (I'm a physio at a hospital) and haven't got a clue how long I'll physically be able to work for. We move departments each 4 months (so that would be the start of April that I next move) but the bump will get in the way for the majority of the departments so haven't got a clue when to start Mat leave. I want to leave it as late as possible but don't know what they would do if I couldn't do the physical side of the role anymore. Anyone else in a physical job and not sure if they'll be able to continue??

MissMooMoo · 13/12/2016 19:34

I was thinking of stopping at the end of April/May bank holiday so I am glad to see others are thinking the same.
My job is quite physical and long hours so I am going to see how I feel closer to the time.

teainbed · 13/12/2016 19:41

Probably stop at the end of March. I usually run into problems at the end. Last time was induced at 36 weeks.....

RasperryInAMelon · 13/12/2016 20:13

I'm taking a week off to go to Barcelona in March and then will be using the remainder of my 3 weeks before my EDD as our policy states I must take everything within the year so I plan on going on holiday on April 26th and then starting Mat Leave in my due date

Adventuregame · 13/12/2016 21:31

I'm leaving as early as possible - pre existing medical condition means I need to be well rested before birth. Taking 4 weeks of holidays first before officially swapping to mat leave but hoping holidays can start from last week in Feb !
Also got a week in Gran Canaria in January and a long weekend at a wedding so not really long left !!! Can't wait !!!!

Opinions please! We told my mil that our baby is a boy and she has since told my brother in law, sister In law and a friend. These people have all contacted me to congratulate me and have all written "a boy! How lovely!"
I am devastated that she has told people the sex and feel she has totally taken away my right to tell people...I asked DH phone her and tell her I was upset. She said sorry but then today when I saw her said she couldn't understand why I was upset and breezed past the issue. Am I being unreasonable? I didn't give permission for her to tell anyone and was looking forward to sharing my wonderful news in May when he arrives. I'm finding it hard to get over this. I remember how amazing it felt to tell people my first baby was a girl and see their faces etc so I now feel like I'm missing that. She won't tell anyone else but I'm unsure who she's actually told (she tends to lie when it suits her)
Sorry for the ramble but I'm upset and want to know if I am being reasonable or all pregnant and moany!

newbieho · 13/12/2016 21:33

Hello, can u add me to the list please? I'm due 13 May. Not posting anything at the moment as I'm feeling a bit under the weather. Will come back once I get better.

RasperryInAMelon · 13/12/2016 21:50

Sonnet I'm with you. We had an early scan at 8 weeks and sent it to our parents - apparently (despite me telling them it was an early scan) my parents said they thought it was a 12 week scan and told everyone they know before we had chance to announce the pregnancy.

I was heartbroken, my dad couldn't see the problem despite the fact that it's our first and we wanted to share our special news with everyone.

I'm still holding a little grudge, but try not to dwell on it. Sadly there's nothing you can do about it now, just enjoy the remainder of people you do get to tell Flowers

Ooh Adventure a week in Gran Canaria sounds ace. I'm thinking of the Canaries in Jan or Feb too but not looked into it yet!

FoxMulder · 13/12/2016 21:58

Hope you feel better soon newbie

StandardLampski · 13/12/2016 22:04

Scan today - all good. Eventually - a few jumps to get in position. A boy - I wasn't expecting that!

coxsorangepippin · 13/12/2016 22:16

That sounds tough, sonnet and raspberry. Same would happen here so am going with not telling people much at all.

Autumnsweater · 13/12/2016 22:16

Barnes I'm a vet so also similarly physical to yours I imagine (and long hours stood up/don't always get breaks you're supposed to), getting a nurse into a lot of my consults to help with lifting and restraining as I get bigger (well, I borrow one of the apprentices!), I've had colleagues who've managed to work until pretty close to their due date but others who have been signed off by their doctor earlier than they had originally wanted.

One colleague who did work until quite far along recommended a maternity band that held the bump in and made it that much more comfortable - apparently from jojomaman.

Legally your workplace is supposed to find you other work to do if you can't do your job (for the same pay), or sign you off on medical leave. Quite a few of the vet nurses end up doing reception later on.
