Fox I can definitely recommend Melonares in Gran Canaria. It's the south of the island so you get the best possible chance of sun ! Lovely stretch of bars near the lighthouse.

missmoo that's so brilliant Smile sounds like it went really well.

Thanks for the info shini, I've bookmarked it but not sure how to not stuck my bum out, it's a rather prominent part of my body Shock

sonnet I can see whY you're upset, it's very exciting special news you want to share yourself! She must be sworn to silence here on in!

lampski glad scan went well :) How funny to get a surprise that you're having a boy, I love how we all have our thoughts on what we're having. I'm going to be surprised if mine's a boy too :)

Autumn - I don't think I'd mind doing different work for a month or so (I worked in an office for 13yrs so do have other skills) but I wouldn't want signing off on medical leave because I'm sure I read somewhere that if you're on medical leave from a certain week your mat leave starts then instead. Confused

Rabbitykins55 · 14/12/2016 06:51

Barnes mine is the same, if you are off from a certain time your maternity leave starts.

I'm hoping to hold out to a few days before the due date depending on how I feel.

Autumnsweater · 14/12/2016 06:53

Yeah that's happened to one colleague two months before she actually had the baby, not ideal for her. Everyone else has managed to stay in work until a reasonable point doing reduced/different work (and we've had a load of pregnancies, need to open a crèche Grin).

At the moment reception know not to book certain things in with me and they've been pretty good at making sure there's someone else available for the heavy lifting. Currently I'm otherwise ok carrying on pretty much as normal but I'm being more militant about making sure I definitely get lunch, and I'm not shy about just asking someone for a cup of tea! Don't know if the NHS cannot afford to be as flexible given staff shortages, but then again they wouldn't want to lose your skills to early mat leave too soon?

RasperryInAMelon · 14/12/2016 06:54

Well that was the worst nights sleep ever! Literally woken up in tears at the prospect of a days work ahead...

The sick before Mat Leave thing is 4 weeks ladies Smile

Streaky17 · 14/12/2016 07:06

Thanks shini great info.

sonnet even if people have been told by someone else what you are having if they are genuinely excited they will share that with you next time they see you. Try not to let it get you down.

The calf cramps have started my pregnancy book warned me- any tips?

1004Rise · 14/12/2016 07:10

Rasperry if it makes you feel feel better I had a shit night sleep on Monday night but was so exhausted last night I slept all the way through... desperately looking for silver linings!

I think was thinking of you down south battling with Southern Rail yesterday sounds horrendous, hope you're remembering not to put too much stress on yourselves!

I sit in front of a computer all day, mostly from home so I'm hoping to work up as close to the end as possible, probably use a few days holiday to stop on the 1st May and start my maternity leave a week later. I'm just planning about 6 months off so can stick all my holiday on at the end. I'm convinced baby will be late (I was and firsts usually are) and the thought of sitting around at home twiddling my thumbs fills me with horror Grin I just need to work out how late airlines let you fly, although I think most of them are ok if you have a letter from your midwife.

Oh and my pillow arrives today! Yippee!!

mightymouse76 · 14/12/2016 07:17

Sonnet I had two nights of calf cramps and leg ache in a row (to the point of having to stand up). Had a warm bath before bed last night after reading advice on other boards, and slept through? Worth a go

McBaby · 14/12/2016 07:58

You can't be forced to start maternity leave unless you are signed off after 36 weeks. Your maternity leave will also automatically start the day your baby is born. So if you plan to start mat leave on your due date with holiday first you could lose holiday etc

I was signed of from 26 weeks a 1-2 weeks at a time with dd1 due to suspected premature contractions and spd. I was signed off sick from 26-35 weeks, then had 3 week holiday and mat leave started at 38 weeks. She was not at 41 weeks.

MrsJW15 · 14/12/2016 10:32

Rise - I'm the same, don't know what I'd do at home for weeks before baby came! I'm hoping to work from home more in the run up though.

Hubby came home late (early in the morning!) and meant a very disturbed night for me. Not happy. Angry

savagehk · 14/12/2016 11:19

1004 each airline is different. With my first we went to France before baby was born, and even the fast ferry wouldn't let you on if you were over ?32? weeks. (I didn't want to fly.)

We are away for Christmas (involves 3 different airlines in the end, booked before we found out!) so I've doublechecked all the airlines' rules to check they will let me fly, none are bothered as it's under 28 weeks 'with no complications', one isn't bothered at all, one wants a 'fit to fly' over 28 weeks, can't remember the third's policy.

RasperryInAMelon · 14/12/2016 11:26

I'm going to Barcelona in March wth EasyJet and will be 29+4 when I fly out and 30+1 when I fly back.

They let you fly up until the end of wk 35 with single pregnancies and wk 32 for multiples (with no complications with no medical certificate).

lucieloos · 14/12/2016 11:59

I would like to go on a short break with DH next year probably around 4 days or up to a week. In all likelihood it will be in the uk somewhere unless we can find a cheap last minute deal somewhere. We can either go mid fed which will be 27 weeks or end of March which will be 32 weeks. I have no idea how I will feel around these times though? I would rather go in March especially if in the uk as the weather might be a little better. Can anyone who has been pregnant before advise? We can't go inbetween as have NCT classes.

MissMooMoo · 14/12/2016 12:00

I am pretty sure I have norovirus.
I have either been on the loo or projectile vomiting since last night. Have a slight fever and can't keep any food down but little sips of water are OK.
Will the baby be ok? I just assume as long as I don't get dehydrated I should be fine but DH is in a panic.

savagehk · 14/12/2016 12:33

MissMooMoo
I think you'll both be fine if it's novovirus. You might want to call GP / midwife anyway to check, they might want to confirm it's nothing else which could be a problem.

lucieloos
I was fine right up till birth last time (really!). but everyone's different. Personally, once past 28 weeks (when the baby is 'viable' outside your womb) I would not want to venture too far from good, English speaking, healthcare. We tend to catch the train to places rather than drive / fly, I think it's a more comfortable form of travel. If driving I suppose you could stop often to stretch your legs, but you can move about continually on a train if you so wish.

MissMoo have you called the midwife for advice ?

OP posts:
savagehk · 14/12/2016 12:34

Doh, just realised I left your quoted post behind!!

MissMooMoo · 14/12/2016 13:02

No I haven't called yet, just got my notes out to have a look.
I'm not sure if I ring the clinic I have my appointments at? I assume so.

MissMooMoo · 14/12/2016 13:14

I called the midwife helpline and the doctor is going to ring me back.
She seemed concerned that I have had cramps, quite painful last night but I assumed they were round ligiment pains.
DH is going to go to the chemist and get me some fluid replacement sachets whilst I wait for doctor to ring. Im really glad he is working from home today!

lullaby23 · 14/12/2016 13:28

Hope you feel better soon missmoo, the cramps could be digestive related.

lucieloos · 14/12/2016 13:29

Thanks savage, maybe if I want to go abroad I should do it around the 26-27 week mark then and stick to a uk break after that.
