Wish I could sleep like that bumble
Maybe mention it to your mw.

36 week check up today, mw said baby is 'nicely engaged' (probably all the walking I do) I don't think any of my others engaged until labour started, except dd1.

Thisisbonkers · 11/11/2016 22:21

For the rest of it she was great, but very blinkered when it came to feeding. I fully intend to get some of my life back when I've given birth! Dad needs to be able to feed!

Will they try and turn the baby, stubble?

Thisisbonkers · 11/11/2016 22:26

BonkersJunior is engaged and was prior to 36 weeks. Walked to the supermarket this evening and by god it feels low. 36+5 today, just one week at work left to go.

SouthDownsSunshine · 11/11/2016 22:58

Londonmama I didn't know that about mastitis. I shall make sure my boobs are warm at all times! I'm going to try and hand express some colostrum in the next few days - I never managed to hand express before, I'll have a go after my shower tomorrow.

Been really restless and uncomfortable tonight. Lots of low down pains but no contractions.

Bumplovin · 11/11/2016 22:59

Anyone with spd got any tips? I know im a physio and should know all the answers but I work with older people and haven't treated anyone with spd for 10 years! Im just feeling desperate today with it and Id literally try anything! anyone else have like boggy fluidy skin down there with it? its tender to even touch the skin. Im trying ice packs but not at my own physio until next thurs and I want to cry because it feels so far away!

goinggrey1978 · 12/11/2016 00:14

Thisisbonkers, my midwife is very insistent about breast feeding as well, now I just smile and nod, knowing full well that I'm packing bottles and formula and I will be bottle feeding and my mum will be helping me with that, I have to be realistic about it all, I need to sleep to stay healthy and the best way to sleep is to have a bottle fed baby as they are known to sleep for longer periods!!
And yes the first sleep I have at night feels like hours and hours but in fact it's only an hour to 3 hours maximum but then I'm awake again for a while until I'm tired again which is starting to annoy me now, because I go to bed because I'm tired and have restless legs, only to wake up again!!

StubbleTurnips · 12/11/2016 03:41

bonkers I've refused an ECV, so they won't try and turn him. Got the consultant on Monday to discuss it further.

Am completely awake - have been since 3am.

DartmoorDoughnut · 12/11/2016 06:54

Feeling rough as hell and have been since I went to bed last night, bambino fine and wriggling away but I am so nauseous Sad why do these things always start at night?!! 36 week check this afternoon so that'll be reassuring either way!

grey I think it's more that some babies sleep and some don't sort of thing but I hope yours does either way!

london thanks for warm boobs tip! DS was 3/4 months by the time the weather got really cold so I wasn't sitting around with my boobs out quite so much by then Grin I've asked for a blanket for Christmas this time, hopefully that'll help!

Bigfam · 12/11/2016 07:08

Hope you feel better soon dartmoor

Had a few twinges about 2am this morning but they didn't progress. I'm sure that when it does happen it will start late at night/very early morning!

goinggrey1978 · 12/11/2016 12:02

Well bubble has learnt a new trick and its rather uncomfortable, thought it was a one off last night, but bubbles still doing it, it's burrowing it's head as far as it can go and pushing right on my pubic bone as well, it's incredibly sore and uncomfortable!! As well as stretching on both sides of my bump too!!

Grapefruit8 · 12/11/2016 13:16

All this talk of twinges I wonder who will be next!! Hats off to those of you working upto the 37/38 week Mark... Im just shy of 35 weeks and this week has been a massive struggle! 24 working hours left and counting!

Bigfam · 12/11/2016 14:55

If I'm 1/5 palpable does that mean baby is fully engaged? Mw said she was nicely engaged yesterday but it's so confusing, doesn't palpable refer to how much of baby's head can be felt outside of the pelvis? Confused

OrianaBanana · 12/11/2016 17:13

Yes so only 1/5 of the head is palpable so she's mostly engaged. Nice one!

Bigfam · 12/11/2016 17:53

Thanks OrianaBanana It took a lot of effort, walking about a mile every day Grin

goinggrey1978 · 12/11/2016 18:11

luckily bubbles head wasn't engaged when i went on Thursday, not so sure now though all this burrowing and pushing on my pubic bone makes me think its definitely moved again and i gave it idea's talking to the midwife and asking her to check whether bubble is engaged or not!!

DartmoorDoughnut · 12/11/2016 18:58

All fine at 36 week check, don't even have a temperature but not keeping anything down and feeling sorry for myself! DH is desperately putting together the nursery just in case but bambino wasn't even the slightest engaged so I reckon we're safe.

StubbleTurnips · 12/11/2016 19:32

Hope lots of preparation is underway with everyone. We took DD to see Santa this morning, she loved it but was incredibly shy.

We've built the cosleeper today, and moved our massive bed - which was no mean feat. Needed a first class engineering degree to wrestle the car seat cover off our britax seat, no idea how it'll go back on but it's washed.

Turnip 2 has clothes, blankets, car seat and a place to sleep - so we're ready when he is.

KitKat1985 · 12/11/2016 19:32

Ooh, lots of people with twinges. I wonder who is going to be next? Smile

Struggling here a bit with DD2 and feeding. Am really keen to breast-feed her as I did her sister but she's struggled with this, although did seem to be improving until my milk came in. My boobs are so engorged she just can't latch. Had a bloody awful night where I had been up trying to feed her from 3am and she just couldn't latch. She was clearly starving hungry and very distressed, which made me very tearful and upset too as I just felt like a shit Mum. I phoned maternity unit overnight who gave me some phone advice but to no avail. Eventually at 9am this morning I had to take her into the maternity unit and they couldn't get her to latch either. Eventually had to hand express and syringe feed her some milk as she was starving hungry. They think that where she was born early she hasn't got a fully developed latch reflex but after a while down the maternity unit (who were brilliant) we found that she can feed with nipple shields, so they have given us some of those. To top it all I've got a temperature this evening and not feeling great. Hoping it's just a cold. Plus we've had several visitors today some who over-stayed their welcome and I just want to go sleep!

OP posts:
SouthDownsSunshine · 12/11/2016 20:11

Sorry to hear you've been struggling with feeding kitkat, but I'm glad the MLU were able to help. They were great with helping me to feed dd - we used shields for the first few months and they helped so much. I've packed some in my hospital bag for this time, just incase. I hope you manage to get feeding established soon x

I've had lots of twinges since last night, the braxton hicks are getting more painful. But nothing regular or really painful yet, I think my body is just starting to get ready. I did suddenly feel ill this evening so it's an early night for me

I realised in the early hours of this morning that the car seat we've been lent hasn't got any of the newborn inserts. I wish I'd just bought a new one but I'd get so much grief from dh's family I didn't.

nataliefruit · 12/11/2016 20:56

Wow, not been on here in a few days & theres so many pages to catch up on!

Firstly, congrats KitKat & hope your little one gets on well with the shield's.

Sorry to all that are struggling with pelvic / back pain / generally feeling a bit naff! I went to a Christmas fair yesterday which was fantastic fun but ended up walking miles - I'm so feeling it today especially as I didn't get much sleep now I'm having to get up at least twice a night to pee. Shouldnt complain especially as I've managed to get through 33 weeks without having an even tinier bladder than usual but it is a bit frustrating when I'm so tired & just want to sleep! At my last midwife appointment over 2 weeks ago she said baby was already engaged hence why there's so much pressure on my bladder. I'm intrigued to see if he's still engaged at my next appointment on Thursday. Anyway, moan over and hope everyone is having a good night Grin

AppleMagic · 12/11/2016 22:35

Kitkat I got really bad chills/temperature when my milk came in with dc2. Could it be milk fever?

Londonmamabychance · 12/11/2016 22:46

kitkat sorry you're struggling with feeding, when my breasts were engorged massively with DD I used to express a bit before trying to get her to latch on, just to make the breast softer so she could more easily latch.

Hope everyone struggling with pain and illness are feeling better!

Forced myself and DD out in the drizzle today as I thought sitting inside all day was just too sad, we were both wrapped up warm and all in waterproofs and had great fun in the puddles, but now we both seems to have developed a cough Sad could be unrelated but feel stupid.

Finally now on maternity leave, last day yesterday! Feel a bit emotional about it as I don't think I'll come back there after may leave. And started getting out DD's old baby stuff and moving things around in the bedroom to make space for the baby's bed. Once it was up it all looked completely crammed and I also think maybe baby's bed is a bit too near the window. Started crying about how little space we have and all the stuff I still need to sort out. 36 weeks on Monday, so hopefully bubba stays out til due date! Think maybe I will now get a co-sleeper even though we've been given the baby's cot for free and since we may move to my home country by April I thought we'd just do with that and not spend money on things we'd then have to pay to ship. But the normal size cot just takes up so much space. Sigh. Anyone went with a co-sleeper they're happy with?

SolomanDaisy · 12/11/2016 23:04

kitkat, I've been told not to expect DD to be able to fully breastfeed until she's over 40 weeks equivalent. Apparently that's usual for babies born before 40 weeks. Did the MLU check for tongue tie? This is a bit of a Dutch thing, as they're obsessed with the baby's temp, but they say to make sure her temp stays above 37, so she isn't wasting energy keeping herself warm and has more energy to feed. Hope it gets easier for you soon.

barkingtreefrog · 13/11/2016 04:35

bumplovin The only things that have made a tiny bit of difference to my spd are the tubigrip, pelvic support band and crutches to get around (along with squeezing the pelvic floor really tight when you walk) and a warm bath, paracetamol and ice on the front before bed.

Having said that I've been awake most of the night (late night so didn't have a warm bath) and am getting fed up now as that means another day of feeling exhausted and doing very little!!

Kitkat sorry about the problems feeding but glad you could get help.

I've had about three braxton hicks in the last hour and it's starting to unnerve me. I think maybe I should force myself to finish packing those hospital bags in the morning!!!!

Had our second NCT class yesterday and got really emotional. We did a relaxation exercise at the end where you were being held by your partner and she read through a visualisation while you closed your eyes. She was describing bringing the baby home and walking through the door etc and I just had tears rolling down my cheeks. Still haven't let myself really believe we'll get that far, it's been a bloody long journey to get here and I really can't comprehend that we're almost at the end of it.

SouthDownsSunshine · 13/11/2016 06:15

Are you feeling a bit better this morning kitkat? If not, please get checked over incase it's an infection.

barking I'm not surprised you got a bit emotional, I did just reading your post and thinking what a journey you've been on.

London I also went with just a cot, and it's sitting in our bay window that's a chilly spot. I guess baby will be ok if I put an extra blanket on her. I bought a babymoov version of the sleepyhead the other day, to put into the cot/our bed, as the cot seems huge.

Last night's twinges came to nothing thankfully. But I've been awake at least 30 minutes and no movements. As I felt ill last night I didn't eat dinner, so it's probably that.
