Hello!

Just wanted to say I will still be hanging around this thread to watch all the babies arrive!

Soloman I'm glad you and your DD are improving. xx

Sorry to everyone who is uncomfortable and struggling with aches and pains. xx

Finally home. Baby moved which is good have a scan next week to check the blood flow of the placenta but over all baby is okay. Midwife was awful and made me feel like I was taking up her time she questioned why I was not having baby at that hospital and having it at one 40mins away even though in my notes it says I HAVE to have it at the other one due to previous problems. Was made to feel like a little child. Glad I'm home

Wow kit Kat that list is huge! How are you doing? How is your DD doing?

doubletrouble41 · 10/11/2016 19:20

ooh just missed the update; I got my c section date, and I am in the right group ,just! As it's 1st December we are booked in for! Three weeks to go, I'm so glad the finish line is in sight!

doubletrouble41 · 10/11/2016 19:22

Congrats to all the mums who have had theirs, and especially Steffimuse and notaclue, I'll probably encounter you soon on some "how do we cope with twins??" thread sometime soon! I'll need your expertise!

Bigfam · 10/11/2016 20:11

Hats off to you kitkat for updating the list with a brand new baby Star

Are we starting a postnantal thread when all of our babies have arrived??

Bella1985 · 10/11/2016 20:51

Congratulations kitkat and all other new mums. Hope all is going well with your new babies. 33 weeks tomorrow - the end of December never felt so far away!!

goinggrey1978 · 10/11/2016 21:03

Lovewatchingrainfall and barkingtreefrog, so glad i'm not the only nightie hater, i got some nice comfy 20-22 sized sale pj bottoms the other day and i'll going to get some more for the hospital bag, my mum can always take them in once i'm no longer pregnant as well! that's a relief, i have 2 really long pj tops to wear plus my dressing gown and guessed i would be wearing the hospital gown during labour anyway!

SouthDownsSunshine · 10/11/2016 21:17

Well done on updating the list kitkat! How are you and dd settling into home?

Solomon baby will need an NG tube at some point before her heart surgery. I'm hoping not immediately, but it depends how strong she is when born and whether she manages to feed.

rainfall glad everything was ok today, and I hope the scan next week goes well. Some midwives lack basic people skills sadly, I hope you don't encounter her again. I'm between three hospitals, and it causes much confusion...!

bonkers I found expressing more time consuming than feeding (even though dd was a really slow feeder), as it takes the time to express and then do the feed. With dd I only expressed to give me a break/when I needed someone else to do a feed. My milk supply tended to be best in the morning, so I'd give dd her feed, then follow it up with an express.

I had a tommee tippee electric pump which was useless, and got on much better with an avent manual. Because I might end up expressing more feeds for this baby, I've invested in a medela swing electric. I've heard good things about it.

Lansinoh cream is a lifesaver, but no need to put it on in advance. The best prep is to get the phone number of a really good breastfeeding counsellor, as the latch makes the most impact on the comfort of feeding.

KitKat1985 · 11/11/2016 07:32

Hello! We are okay thanks. I was a bit worried the first couple of days that DD wasn't feeding well, and the midwives wanted her to feed every couple of hours as she's small for a full-term baby as she's only 8th centile, (although obviously she was still about 3 weeks early so hoping she'll catch up a bit), but she just wasn't interested and was going more like 6 hours between feeds. She seems to be getting the hang of breast-feeding more now though (although my nipples feel a bit like they've had a cheese-grater on them)! She's being weighed later today so will see where she's at.

I'm not too bad in myself. The massive advantage to me of her being born small is I only had a first degree tear so no stitches. Inevitably tired though, and finding it a juggling act trying to look after DD2 whilst not ignoring DD1.

SouthDownsSunshine · 11/11/2016 08:00

So glad to hear you're both doing well kitkat, I hope she does ok at her weigh in this morning. I hope the juggling act gets easier...

Today I'm 37 weeks so baby is fully cooked :) I'm so pleased to have made it this milestone.

barkingtreefrog · 11/11/2016 08:43

south. my mate has passed on her Tommy tippee breast pump - fingers crossed it works better for me!! I'm hoping to breastfeed but express so that dh can help with night feeds at the start (he's off with me for four weeks) and then weekends when he's back at work.
Depends on whether the baby will accept mixed feeding though, as I know some advice says to not introduce a bottle until much later in case they reject the breast. Got the breastfeeding part of the NCT class tomorrow so I guess they'll be quite strong on that given they're not even allowed to discuss formula!!!

StubbleTurnips · 11/11/2016 08:58

barking a lot you read online about nipple confusion I found to be nonsense to be honest! You may just go through a lot of bottle / teat manufacturers to figure out which one works best for you.

Ah the days spent in boots comparing which teat most resembled the shape of my nipples to assist DD. Fun times Grin

< stares at the 100s of bottle types we went through >

Thisisbonkers · 11/11/2016 12:34

The expressing would be to give my nipples a break and allow someone else to feed to give ME a break. I'm planning to give breastfeeding a good go but I'm not too hung up on it so that I'm not willing to give expressed bottles or mixed feeding a go if it makes life easier.

barking our NCT lady wouldn't even entertain dads giving a bottle of expressed milk! Only mums should feed!!

DartmoorDoughnut · 11/11/2016 13:25

Oh god that would give me SO much rage bonkers

stripeyorangesocks71 · 11/11/2016 13:35

Bonkers that sounds pathetic. Glad I'm not going to NCT classes! How do they know what's best for your baby, when every baby is different!

StubbleTurnips · 11/11/2016 13:42

bonkers we had a tutor like that with our first NCT classes, which is why I'm not doing it this time round.

Insertwitticismhere · 11/11/2016 14:38

Wow sounds like we were lucky with our NCT tutor when I had dd. She said that she was a fan of babies being well-fed however that happened! Much more helpful and realistic attitude!

I did express for dd as both me and DH found it reassuring to have 'extra' milk in the fridge but to be honest it was a lot easier to just feed her direct. I found I got engorgement if I missed a feed and I hated the breast pump so even if DH did a feed with expressed milk it didn't feel like much of break...

StubbleTurnips · 11/11/2016 16:09

Been upto maternity triage today as i hadn't felt movements this morning / lunch, Turnip2 is still breech and appears to have settled in that way. Stubborn little so and so.

All ok with the trace, he moved 22 times according to the monitor - I felt about 4 of them.

SouthDownsSunshine · 11/11/2016 17:50

stubble glad baby was moving ok :)

bonkers that's awful! Luckily our NCT breastfeeding person was much more balanced. Being the sole feeder is exhausting, and it's lovely for the dad to share the feeds. We were lucky and dd took easily to the first bottles we tried. It is really reassuring to have a supply of milk in the freezer, and it came in handy for adding to food for weaning as well.

Had my extra growth scan today and baby is growing just fine. Phew!

Londonmamabychance · 11/11/2016 17:51

stubble I was the same with my first pregnancy hardly felt any movement but whenever I went to go on the mi it or there was no movement I just could feel it. Weird. This time I feel much more not sure if baby is more active or just you sense it more second time round!

I only had a manual hand pump with DD and found it completely useless, did all feeding from the breast. But had problems with oversupply for the first three weeks and ended up expressing literally by hand, into the sink and in the shower, DH was not enamoured Grin

Londonmamabychance · 11/11/2016 17:53

Forgot to say I found it much easier to express after having had a warm shower to kind of warm up the breasts

Londonmamabychance · 11/11/2016 17:54

Oh and one more thing! Keep your boobs warm! Got mastitis last time and it's partly caused by cold, I got wollen breast pads in the end and kept them in the bra all winter

StubbleTurnips · 11/11/2016 19:31

London it's the other way for me this time Smile due to anterior placenta / breech I barely feel him moving so really have to concentrate. DD never bloody stopped, she's the same now!

It was a typical presentation of nothing for hours and as soon as they put the monitor a boot into the trace Hmm

Bumbleclat · 11/11/2016 21:12

Is anyone else falling into extremely deep sleeps when they sit down in the evening?

I'm working full time teaching and it has been a busy week but I do keep falling asleep on the sofa into these extremely (almost disturbingly) deep sleeps where I wake up and am breathing reeeeally deeply, have red cheeks and can barely move for about an hour after coming round!

Is this just pregnancy exhaustion/ a sign I should go on Maternity Leave?

Bumbleclat · 11/11/2016 21:12

I'm 34+2 weeks
