Argh I had insomnia too together with occasional heartburn and stomach pains. Turning constantly and painfully with the SPD. DH is away so I couldn't even annoy get comfort from him - so I ended up watching an episode of OBEM, the one with the very shouty lady. Then as I was getting back to sleep around 6am, in comes a small cold body for hugs (DS in case anyone wondered!!). So I really sympathise.

Babydreaming · 05/11/2016 08:31

Barking I've just finished my NCT essentials class. Our whole 2nd session was focused on labour. Our 3rd session was on c sections etc. The other 3 were about how to look after baby etc and breastfeeding!

KitKat1985 · 05/11/2016 08:50

Barking I did an NCT essentials course a couple of years ago when I was expecting DD. It was pretty focused on labour to be honest. I also found it was quite focused on the NCT 'agenda' of natural birth and breast-feeding. My strongest memory of the course was us all being shown a video of the delights of natural labour with a couple giving birth in what appeared to be a forest surrounded by wildlife. It was a bit surreal to be honest! Grin On the positive side I'm still in regular contact with several other parents from the course, and we still meet up occasionally, so that's nice.

barking my nausea has returned. Its such a nuisance and totally wipes me out.

While i was waiting in hospital yesterday i got speaking a woman who had her baby 2 weeks earlier, he was 11lb7. And she was a small skinny girl. The hospital never picked up on the weight so im not getting my hopes up about my babys weight (just below 50th centile) as they can get it so wrong..

Bigfam · 05/11/2016 14:08

Bought some bluetooth earphones today to use whilst I'm in labour (hopefully in the pool) so I can totally zone out. They're pretty smart and I feel like they'll help me feel more comfortable.

Nojo82 · 05/11/2016 14:29

Oh brilliant idea bigfam.

Just been out for a walk, if im honest ive hardly took the boys out anywhere since i was in hospital at 25 weeks. Well once wutb DH but i really struggled with my heart rate. Well i done it, boys are happy even though they stressed me a bit. But my goodness the pressure was unreal, note to self - more walking in the nxt few weeks might get this baby moving..

Bigfam · 05/11/2016 14:37

Hope you don't end up feeling too bad Nojo82
I also have a feeling a lot of walking will help baby to move down, I'm all for it if baby decides to make an arrival just after 37 weeks....

Thisisbonkers · 05/11/2016 15:11

We did the NCT essentials and it was quite focussed on labour, but having since done a class with NHS I'm glad we did it as the two hours at hospital barely covered anything. I feel more prepared for having done NCT even if it is heavily biased towards natural birth and anti intervention.

Our first NCT baby was born this week Smile

Hospital bag is now pretty much packed. Just need to add a few bits in and start saving coins for the car park!

Nojo82 · 05/11/2016 17:25

Thanks bigfam so far i feel good, in fact ive got energy. Ive made a trifle, first time ive done anything like that in months. Ive some very excited boys. Feel bad now that i haven't really paid them enough attention lately.

Anyone making bookings to take their other children to see santa. I keep seeing ocal places doing things but as im due christmas day i really dont know what to do. Dont want to waste the money on it if im not gona be in the mood or labour?!

SouthDownsSunshine · 05/11/2016 17:29

nojo that's good! Enjoy the trifle :)

We won't be taking dd to see Santa this year, last year she was so scared by him she was literally shaking.

mistletoe1 · 05/11/2016 18:06

Sounds like NCT experiences can be a bit of a mixed bag. I've just had my second all day NCT session. It's been great and I'm so pleased we decided that take the class. Last week covered vaginal birth, this week we covered c sections, PND, relationships (you and your partner plus wider family/friends), and practical baby stuff like nappy changing and bathing. Our tutor didn't push any agenda. Have breast feeding to come.

firawla · 05/11/2016 21:35

Whoa at the 11lb baby - brave lady! I thought my 9.5lber was big!

We have plans to take kids to Santa at a farm near us at end of Nov. I'm not expecting to go early as mine have all been overdue except one who was induced couple of weeks earlier, so I'll just plan things right up to the end I think and keep busy!

Our loft is scheduled to start this Tuesday - finally!!! So I'm thinking the more we can book to keep us out of the house the better TBH. A bit worried about the mess and dust! I don't know whether to get a local storage unit and put some of the baby stuff there for a bit while things are being done, because I really don't like the thought of any of her things getting dusty!! But then, I'll probably give birth before they finish and need all the stuff so also need to keep it fairly handy Confused - hoping it miraculously won't be as messy as expected!!

Londonmamabychance · 05/11/2016 23:39

Our NCT teacher for my first birth was quite disorganised and a bit rubbish, didn't learn much I didn't already know or learned at the hospital class. But the other couples we're lovely and still regularly see most of the other mums, so it was definitely worth it just for that bonding experience and knowing someone nearby with babies exactly same age.

Really want to take DD to what looks like an amazing Victorian santa's grotto At a museum near us, but it starts on Dec 3rd and since I'm due on the 12th hominid it's too risky to book. Sad realistically, it's probably more me who's so into going given that DD just turned two and downs freaky get Christmas yet and will be just as happy to get a trip to the park or some other locals play area. Just really getting in the Christmas spirit already becaus it's so dark, and want to plan loads of Christmas stuff, that's not possible to plan because of due date. Never mind, will decorate loads in the flat come Dec 1st. Trying to kee my Christmas obsession reined in till then.

Nojo glad to hear you feel better.
bigfam earphones sound fab!

Sorry for everyone with the insomnia, was there last week! Really hope I can sleep tonight. Have a birthday party to fo to for one of DD's nursery friends earlyish in the morning.

Londonmamabychance · 05/11/2016 23:40

Sorry crazy amount on autocorrect mistakes in there! Definitely time to go to bed Wink

Lovewatchingrainfall · 06/11/2016 06:55

I'm due the 13th but have booked two trips to see Santa with my DD. One at our local zoo (helps that I know someone who works there so if I do go into labour they can have her) plus it's closer to the hospital and then one at an ice skating place. I wasn't going to book any but I LOVE Christmas and can't really put it on hold because I'm pregnant it's not fair on her as she really understand this year.

Been wide awake since 2am and the nausea is back with a vengeance today. Got a nice week with DH off this week so he can help me out and planning to put the cot up this week so tad excited.

nightcap · 06/11/2016 08:29

Am hoping some of you who've been suffering from SPD might have some advice for me - I've had it mildly for a couple of months, just the odd twinge here and there but last night I must have done some sort of sudden weird movement as my leg just sort of stopped working.

Was out at the time so had to hobble around for a bit till I could get a cab home and this morning I can barely walk or turn, I'm just shuffling (hurts most where my leg meets my body).

My daily commute involves a one mile walk twice a day (no bus route and no car) so I'm stressing a bit about how to manage, is there anything anyone's found that helps ease it a bit?

Not sure if heat packs or ice packs are helpful or whether I need to go to GP... would be really grateful for any tips!!

OrianaBanana · 06/11/2016 08:39

Hi nightcap, sorry to hear about the SPD. I won't be much use I'm afraid except to say that in my case sometimes it comes and goes so one day it will be very bad and the next day not so much. But on a bad day I don't think there's any way I could walk a mile twice. Some days I might be OKish going but not coming back.

I find a heated wheat bag really really helps but I don't like using it as the pain is mostly at my pubic bone, just around where her head should be, and I don't want to interfere with her engaging.

I don't think it would hurt to see the GP but they may just refer you to a physio and I think you can self-refer (MW could confirm). That may help in the long term but probably not in the short I'm afraid.

Any possibility of working from home? Flowers

nightcap · 06/11/2016 09:22

Thanks oriana, good to know it might at least come and go a bit! I guess I'll see how I feel tomorrow, might have to just cab to the train station for a few days...

My work are pretty flexible about everything so if I get really stuck I'll probably be able to work more days from home, I'd feel a bit bad as nows really the time I could do with being in the office to get things ready for mat leave! But I know my boss will be fine with me staying home if I'm struggling to get in, so at least the only real pressure is from myself.

Will also try the wheatbag option, although good point about it being a bit close to the baby's head, will be careful not to use it too long.

StubbleTurnips · 06/11/2016 09:40

night my pain is awful at night, but easily managed in the day with paracetamol. I take it as soon as I wake up so I can get out of bed. It's worth a try to see if it helps!

Nojo82 · 06/11/2016 10:27

Aw that sounds awful night hope you get some relief soon.. ive only had the odd day of feelung the same so ive no advice to give you unfortunately.

Sorry to report that i had the best nights sleep in a long time. I think going to bed late helped me, so must find a good movie to keep me awake. So today im full of energy and im kinda nesting.. got a sudden urge to clean..

Ive got quite bad thrush down below, oh God the itch is awful. Dont know why i keep getting it, ive been using canasten.

Bigfam · 06/11/2016 11:57

Rubbish for those of you suffering with SPD and sleep troubles.

I wont have to talk to mil too much with the headphones in use 😉
They'll be really handy if my fil drops us to hospital, dp and I have been together 10 years but I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable about the fact I might be in the back of fil's car during labour Blush so hopefully I can zone out and concentrate on my music!

Kitch82 · 06/11/2016 12:12

night it's sounds like mine is on the really bad days. You really need physio, the 2 halves of my pelvis become out of alignment causing really sharp pain at the groin and along the underneath. The only thing that sorts me out is good, strong manipulation from the physio. Be really kind to yourself and don't try to walk through the pain. Alternate heat and ice might give you some relief. Hope you can get in to see someone soon or that it calms down by itself. Flowers

Kitch82 · 06/11/2016 12:14

Oh and have a look at this website for tips on how to move safely
www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk/
Whatever you do don't try and shave your legs in the shower, I been on crutches since!

nightcap · 06/11/2016 12:16

Thanks for the advice all, stubble paracetamol hadn't even occurred to me, think my brains too tired! Will take some now, I've just been trying to nap for the past couple of hours but no luck.

And nojo I'm glad someone's getting a good night's sleep at least even if it's not me. Are you sure the thrush is definitely thrush by the way? Sometimes the pressure on that whole area can cause vulval varicose veins and they itch like hell (also they feel revoltingly lumpy). Ice packs can sometimes help!

Nojo82 · 06/11/2016 12:21

Dont know night cant see down there anymore lol.. will tell consultant nxt week when i go.. oh god think im nesting, i had ds1 clean the windows outside, ds2 is helping and im cleaning out cupboards to make room for baby bottles..Shock
