I'm wrapping up a few things for baby that I had already bought anyway, couple soft toys, couple nice books including one about Santa and a little owl that projects stars onto the ceiling by her cot.

goinggrey1978 · 18/10/2016 23:37

Me too, I'm just going to wrap the toys, books and cuddly toys I already have for bubble, I've just ordered some Christmas material so my mum can make bubble a Christmas sack on her sewing machine and also been looking at Christmas stockings, I think I've found one I like!!

Londonmamabychance · 19/10/2016 13:41

Oh my God, Christmas, haven't even started thinking remotely about it! Can only think of bubba's arrival and all I have to get done before then (due Dec 11th). Don't think I'll get the baby any Christmas present, he's the present himself : ) he's not going to undertsand anyway! But my parents may come to ours for Christmas and I'm sure my mum will then get him something. Or DH might, he's so sentimental ; ) he also got DD a Christmas present the first year, she was three months by then and I considered it pointless, and thought I'd already bought her so many things, but he got her a cuddly toy.

Saying all this, will need to get Christmas presents for everyone else before bubba is here and ship them off! Oh no, another thing on the to do list. Westfield, here we come.

Was meant to have my 32 week app today but missed it due to it being at 8.30 and not having slept all night due to massive fight with DH last night over who was responsible for letting DD get to a pen that she then proceeded to draw on the sofa with Confused Did anyone say pregancy hormones and an overworked DH? Dreading how it's all going to pan out after bubba is here with tempers already so frayed.

What did mw actually do for your 32 week app, those who had it already? I can't at all remember from last time!

DartmoorDoughnut · 19/10/2016 13:44

Bought a present today for DS from the baby Grin one massive CAT dumper truck which he'll love even if he is unsure about the giver!

OrianaBanana · 19/10/2016 13:51

I'll do her a stocking as otherwise I might have to explain to DS why Santa hasn't brought his sister anything Confused

Otherwise nothing else, I thought it would be nice for some attention to be on DS after the fuss of the birth etc., rather than have a pile of unopened presents for baby left after he's opened all of his (as I doubt I'll have time or want to sit and open them for her).

Bigfam · 19/10/2016 14:44

We've bought dd1 (8) ds (7) & dd2 (5) a 2ds each for christmas. They'll each get a few games and odd bits here and there but have learnt from last christmas that they don't really play with toys anymore, dd3 who'll be nearly 2 will get toys though. The tree will be going up the 1st of december as well, no messing about here Grin

StubbleTurnips · 19/10/2016 16:03

London id anticipated Christmas sneaking up on me so have been sorted for present gifting a while since August and have ordered my Christmas dinner to be delivered on the 24th. My overriding birth anxiety is missing my Christmas dinner Blush Grin

happydays00 · 19/10/2016 18:08

london don't worry, I am so disorganised generally - Christmas is no exception. I think I'll just have to pull my finger out once mat leave starts in a couple of weeks. Plan on doing most of it horizontal from the sofa..

The midwife did very little at my 32 week appointment: measured my bump, checked my urine, blood pressure and that was about it I think. Booked me in for another couple of weeks and off I went.

WyfOfBathe · 19/10/2016 21:07

Will be getting Christmas presents for baby, but they're all things that we would end up buying in the next few weeks/months anyway, e.g. teething toys & playmat.

I probably wouldn't bother, except my 5 year old stepdaughter is obviously old enough to notice if baby gets presents or not.

barkingtreefrog · 20/10/2016 04:39

I hadn't even thought about presents for baby! There are no siblings to worry about so it seems a little pointless, and my sisters are so excited about it I'm sure she'll get spoilt anyway, but I might actually do a little stocking as it would be so cute to have them hanging on the mantle piece together! We started ttc in December 2011 and up until now every Christmas has been a reminder of what we still didn't have, especially it being such a family/child focused time of year. Last year I was still recovering from the last miscarriage. For the last two years we've gone abroad and pretended it wasn't happening at all, in fact I even gave away the box of Christmas decorations I'd accumulated for years to a local charity.
I still can't quite believe it, but this Christmas could be the most amazing Christmas ever!

KitKat1985 · 20/10/2016 06:15

We're just going to get the baby a token gift or two. We have loads of clothes and baby toys from having DD 2 years ago, so there's not much really that this baby is going to need, and obviously the baby won't know or care if it's Christmas.

OP posts:
Babydreaming · 20/10/2016 10:16

I don't think we will do baby gifts! It's our first and he won't have a clue. We've spent a small fortune on his nursery and wardrobe etc so that can be present enough! I'm sure family members will buy some bits.

I have a growth scan today! Really nervous. As some of you may remember he was a bit on the small side on previous scans (about 20th centiles) normal sized head and body but small long bones! I'm really scared it's due to placental insufficiency so am anxious to see how he's grown today!

I feel like the NHS should offer everyone a growth scan in later pregnancy. He was growing bang on 50th centile at 20 weeks and I wouldn't have known if I hadn't got my extra scan for zika! I understand it's probably a cost thing and if majority of pregnancies are fine at 20 weeks there shouldn't be a problem...but it just seems like so long to go from 20 weeks to birth with no more scans!

Bigfam · 20/10/2016 10:26

Aww bless you barking how lovely that you'll have your long awaited baby at christmas! 😊

Londonmamabychance · 20/10/2016 12:19

Barking bless you, how wonderful for you that you will finally have a baby to make Christmas truly magical Smile not that I have experienced anything near what you've gone through, but the last Christmas before conceiving DD (she was conceived the first week of Jan, so obvs my body knew now was the time, had waited because DH wanted to wait until after our wedding which was in the summer before that Christmas) I was so sad because all I wanted was a child, and Christmas with all its focus on family and children just seemd pointless and hollow, I spend new years even crying about not being pregnant! Hopefully we will all have a wonderful baby-filled Christmas : )

babydreaming I agree, everyone should get a growth scan in third trimester. With my first child I was at UCLH in London, and back then - only two years ago - they were one of the few hospitals in the country that offered routine thirs trimester scans to everyone. It was wonderfully reassuring to know the baby was growing as she should, and for a friend of mine wo was also at UCLH, they found out at the routine scan that her bubba wasn't growing enough and she was induced early. Now they've cut them due to need to save : ( good luck with the scan today, hope all turns out to be fine!

Nojo82 · 20/10/2016 14:57

Im consultant led so you automatically get growth scans in 3rd trimester. Im actually moving hospitals so i got my appointment through to go on tuesday so thats 3 weeks earlier than i was supposed to be seen.

goinggrey1978 · 20/10/2016 15:40

I had my 31 weeks midwife appointment this morning and bubble was fidgeting away while the midwife tried to measure my bump!! Bubble is following the top line on the graph too and next appointment in 3 weeks along with the growth scan too that week, when I'll get to see bubble again and my mum is coming to that one too!! Lots of exciting things going on over the next week or so, got the birthing workshop on Sunday and my friend from work is coming with me too, then the hospital tour on Tuesday afternoon and my mum is coming too and then a feeding class on Thursday afternoon!! By the end of next week my dad is going to bring over the nursing chair, stool, crib and other gadgets so I can finish setting up bubbles end of my bedroom!

Babydreaming · 20/10/2016 17:35

Had my scan! He's still tiny. He's on the 20th centile so not technically abnormally small but he has dropped from where he started. They think my placenta is functioning okay, think it's just due to my size (pre pregnancy bmi of 17). I've been trying to put on loads of weight during the pregnancy as I feel awful that it's my fault but it doesn't seem to have helped! He also has mild dilatation of one kidney but they aren't too concerned as most resolve after birth, they said they will scan him postnatally to check things are getting better! I'm currently 33+4 and he's estimated to be about 4lb3oz. So tiny!

Eskerina81 · 20/10/2016 18:17

Glad to hear the good scan news. Is anyone planning to use a doula or used one previously? Are they helpful?

SolomanDaisy · 20/10/2016 19:13

Good to hear the scan went well Babydreaming!

I was supposed to be having a growth scan tomorrow, but I've been admitted to hospital with pre eclampsia. I have to stay in until the baby is born now. 34 weeks tomorrow and they're aiming to get me to 37, but will make a daily assessment. Hospital is very nice, I can't believe how many staff there are compared to an NHS hospital! Pre eclampsia is a bit scary after a trouble free pregnancy last time. I'm glad I decided to check my own blood pressure at home!

Bigfam · 20/10/2016 19:35

Oh no SolomanDaisy that must have been scary and a bit of a shock, I read it was a lot less likely for preeclampsia to develop in a second pregnancy if you didn't have it in your first. Hope you're ok though and glad the hospital is making you feel comfortable. Fingers crossed baby stays put til 37 weeks, if not, baby will have a fantastic start as s/he's a great gestation. Thinking of you x

barkingtreefrog · 20/10/2016 20:42

Oh no, Solomon, that wasn't in the birth plan! Sad

Glad you're safely being looked after. Hope you've got plenty of reading?!

Bumplovin · 21/10/2016 00:20

solomon glad you picked it up early makes me wonder if I should get a portable monitor did u have any risk factors or were U just checking yourself for peace of mind?

kitkat next time you update the list could you change my due date from 15th to the 1st December! My c section has been brought forward due to the diabetes. Ive just been given the date today im so excited she will be here 6 weeks today!! Xx

duxb · 21/10/2016 07:00

Solomon sorry to hear the news but glad you're in the right place and if you're going to be in there a while, that it's at least a nice environment. Gestation of baby is really good so fingers crossed you get to 37 weeks but at least you are far enough along to be out of the anxiety-inducing zone.

35 weeks tomorrow for me. Not sure where that time has gone! Just a week at work after today.

Hope everyone is okay!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 21/10/2016 09:42

Oh no Solomon hope they are looking after you and you manage to get some sleep and proper food.

Hospital bag is finally packed. Managed to get some amazing maternity/nursing bras in Primark of all places. I decided for bigger pjs from there thank you all for your suggestions.

Thisisbonkers · 21/10/2016 12:26

34 week appointment this morning, where has the time gone?!

Baby's head is at the top of my pelvis. She expects it to be engaged by next appointment (2 weeks). Not sure if that's early or not? All getting scarily close. She mentioned bag packing and all that jazz. Eek!!
