Thanks ladies - just waiting for my appointment now, should have been at 11 and just seen someone else has been called in to see her so that'll be another 15/20 minute wait. I don't get a choice about appointments either, she just chooses one and books it without asking if it's suitable, luckily I have a decent manager at work who understands but I still feel like I'm the one taking the p!ss. I'm usually quite positive minded and love any appointment to do with my baby but it's now got to a stage where it's just an effort. It shouldn't be like that for anyone imo

DartmoorDoughnut · 13/10/2016 11:26

Been waiting for half an hour now, just someone put a stick in my pee and measure my bump FFS!

Popskipiekin · 13/10/2016 11:38

Ah positions. Yes I really hope I don't have to be monitored and on my back again, it was such a killer.

Midwives - I get a different one each time. Think you should definitely ask to swap if you get the same one each time and don't like her. Aren't people on MN continually being told to take charge of their own antenatal care Grin we are too accepting (me included! and I do accept it's so difficult to make a fuss) of whatever the NHS powers that be hand down to us.

peanutbutter2409 · 13/10/2016 15:12

Hey ladies, haven't posted for ages but have been lurking. Hope everyone's well! My C section is now booked for the 28th November, so under 7 weeks now.....all getting VERY real! FTP & starting NCT next week so hoping to learn everything from those classes as I'm very aware I don't know what I'm doing! I'll be working right up until my C section - just the weekend off before the birth, but I need to keep as much of my mat leave as possible for afterwards. Working from home 4 days a week now though as my SPD pain is horrendous so that's really helping.
I have a random question for you - what nappies do I buy for the hospital bag? I'm going for pampers and have got two small packs of 'new baby premium protection' - 1 each is size 1 & 2.
Other people I know have been stock piling nappies - how long are they typically in size 1 for as most people are telling me that it's not for very long at all. Also, with Pampers Baby Dry - are these just for night times? There's so many options and I'm confusing myself!

StubbleTurnips · 13/10/2016 16:44

peanut I wouldn't stockpile nappies, DD was frigging massive so wasn't in size 1 for long and we threw loads out. I've got 1 pack size ones in my hospital bag and will have some spare in DHs car.

I hope you have a good NCT teacher, ours was not great with anything other than natural birth / attachment parenting - prepare yourself Grin
Mine didn't like me as she would not tolerate any conversations on mixed feeding, even when I explained that was our option due to significant breast reconstruction.

Popskipiekin · 13/10/2016 17:07

Just to say in case it helps, on the subject of nappies for hospital bag, we were encouraged by the midwives to change DS1 in his little cot but we were petrified of being inept first-time-nappy-changers and getting meconium everywhere and having to ask for extra bedding, so would transfer him to a towel on the bed etc. This time I'll be packing several of those disposable change mats/incontinence pads both for me to sit on in the bed and to use to change DS2 in his cot.

firawla · 13/10/2016 18:11

I'd definitely pack size 1. Even my big baby fitted in them fine when he was born (9.5lb) and my smaller ones I remember having to fold down the top as the nappies were a bit big on them!

Nojo82 · 13/10/2016 19:37

Ive stock piled but up til size 4. Only got 2 small packs of size 1. Also got loads of wipes in too.

Anyone who is formula feeding, buying some in? Not sure wat to do..

OrianaBanana · 13/10/2016 19:39

We took in size 1 but we won't get lots as DS didn't fit in them for long - we're near enough to a supermarket to get them as and when.

peanutbutter2409 · 13/10/2016 19:48

Thanks so much ladies! Size 1 it is for the bag and then we'all see how big he is & go from there!

TipBoov · 13/10/2016 21:08

I remember getting rid of a big box of nappies quite early on last time so it must have been size 1. I've just bought 2 packs this time, and a couple of packs of size 2. I have Amazon prime so I can always get more delivered next day if I run low.

Finally sorted my hospital bag tonight, all the baby's hospital clothes have been washed and ironed, I can't believe how small newborn clothes are, I'd forgotten how small babies are!

I'm 32+2 today, and really feeling huge. It is starting to ache to walk now and I feel so tired. I seem to have the gestational diabetes under control now, but I am losing weight which to be honest I'd rather not be! I was slightly overweight pre-pregnancy (only by a little, I'm a size 12!) so don't really need to lose weight. I have a growth scan again next week so will see how she's getting on. Everyone says losing weight is a great side effect of gestational diabetes, but it makes me worry that I'm not getting enough nutrients. Always something to worry about!!

StubbleTurnips · 13/10/2016 21:12

Tip it's strange seeing all these tiny clothes next to our giant DD. DH got her bouncy chair out of the loft for a friend who's visiting with their baby at weekend. I can fully recall DD in it, tonight she was stood next to it like a massive monster child.

Sympathise with the feeling huge, I honestly not sure how much bigger I can grow Confused

Bigfam · 13/10/2016 21:18

Nojo82 I stockpiled milk with my last dd, big mistake, she had really bad reflux and after trying baby gaviscon and rantidine (sp) I had to switch her to anti-reflux milk, which meant all the milk I'd bought was useless. I'll be 32 weeks tomorrow, still haven't sorted my hospital bag or washed her clothes.

peanutbutter2409 · 13/10/2016 21:36

I've washed all his clothes and have bought most of the bits for my hospital bags & will probably pack them this weekend.

SouthDownsSunshine · 13/10/2016 21:54

Oh gosh, i wished I'd listened upthread and got my itching checked out. It's unbelievable tonight, I'm so uncomfortable I've been in tears. Nothing is working to ease the itch. Going to call midwives first thing tomorrow. No idea how I'll sleep tonight.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 13/10/2016 22:09

Oh south that sounds awful have you tried a cool bath to see if that helps with the itching? Hope you manage to get some sleep. If not do you have an out of hours number you can call?

TipBoov · 13/10/2016 22:10

south a cool shower might help? Sounds really frustrating, hope you manage to get some rest!

Popskipiekin · 13/10/2016 22:20

Have you got any oats, South? Maybe try those in a cool bath - put them in a pop sock?

Bumplovin · 13/10/2016 23:37

Tip boov, I've lost 5lb since being on gets diabetes diet in 3 weeks consultant today actually said today this is totally fine he said baby will get all it's nutrients from me and it will lower my chance of type 2 diabetes in future. I was only 8st 13 to start currently 10st 5

Bigfam · 14/10/2016 04:53

Hope you're ok south

Bigfam · 14/10/2016 04:55

Posted too soon.
Did you manage to find anything that helps amd get some rest?

SouthDownsSunshine · 14/10/2016 06:48

I slept on and off, thanks for asking. My midwife friend recommended calamine lotion so I'll buy some today. It's so much better this morning, but I'm expecting the same again tonight.

barkingtreefrog · 14/10/2016 06:56

Hope the calamine helps, south, itching is horrible.
DH got up at 3.30 to go to the toilet and I've been awake since. Grr. At least it's the weekend tomorrow.... Then one more week at work for me and it really can't come soon enough!! One of the women I've been training for the last six weeks to do my job has just asked for Tuesday off so she can attend a PhD interview.... I think she'll walk into it no problem so looks like she'll be leaving, and because she's still new there's no notice period she has to work as she's still in probation, I don't know how quickly she's likely to hear back from them, but she could be leaving before I do, and there's no one else who can do that part of my job, and anyone new won't have six weeks with me to be trained up.....
I know it's not going to be my problem after next week, but it's not a nice way to go on maternity!!!!

pacificlass · 14/10/2016 07:34

Morning. All well here other than I got a just failed GTT test so have been monitoring blood sugars and low-carbing it to see if I can keep it under control with diet. Readings have been good so obs is happy for me to keep going as I am for the moment. I had a scan at same time as GTT and no concerns for bubs so fingers crossed it stays that way. Commiserations to the itchy ones amongst you.

DartmoorDoughnut · 14/10/2016 07:36

Morning! Hope everyone has good weekends, off to a family reunion, hoping none of them are bump grabbers!
