With dd I has the attitude that I would rt my damn best but if it didn't work out for us so be it, but this was before she was born. When she arrived I was so determined to feed her and would sit and cry because it was so damn hard for us. She had latch issues but with support and the use of nipple Shields for the first time months I managed to get to a year of bf. I always gave her one bottle at night though before bed of formula. That was something I wanted to do regardless of how the feeding went . But that's because I like my freedom and didn't want her to be wholey dependent on me. If I was struggling I would always say I'll try for one more day and if it doesn't work I'll stop but things would always improve again.

Butterpuff · 31/10/2016 09:59

Hi All, you have been chatty while I've been away from a computer. I BF dd to 15 months. Had a madela pump which was great (and I 'adapted' a cheap sports bra by cutting two nipple holes so that the pumps where held in place hands free while it was doing its thing). I had a huge supply of milk in the freezer. Unfortunately DD never, ever took a bottle. So it was all wasted! Oh well. I was one of the lucky ones that once we had worked out how to get a latch (the three days we were in hospital) I never really had any problems or pain. It was quite simple for us.

I am hoping to BF this little one as well. One of my midwives suggested I start trying to express a couple of weeks before he/she arrives before it all gets too stressful so that we have some ready in hospital as soon as baby gets here. Also because baby will be quite weak initially he/she may have to be tube fed for a while so wont be able to latch, but can still have my BM if I've got started. Its going to be tough but I hope it will work.

I have my 20 week scan tomorrow. Excited, but terrified. I really hope that they don't find any more problems. We need this operation to be as uncomplicated as possible for the little bean.

Carolann8584 · 31/10/2016 10:19

Butter My Scan is tomorrow as well, 1:10pm so will be working in the AM for a nice distraction. I don't know why I am more worried about this scan than the 12 week one, been having little what if moments which I usually just shrug off but the past couple of days they have stuck in my head. Normally I let my worries wash over me but as this is our little beany I can't really have the same attitude.

Don't get me wrong still very excited but keep having these little niggles in my head. Might be also do to the fact I haven't had much movement yet either (once at wk16 and again at wk18)

ShyLittleFrog · 31/10/2016 10:30

Butterpuff - Here's a big hug for you. Sorry to hear your little baba is not well. What kind of operation will he/she need ? I would read through this thread to find out but it's huge now, and don't have time. I hope your scan goes well tomorrow Smile

charlybs It might be time for a new thread ?

Dustycorners · 31/10/2016 11:17

Good luck for the scans tomorrow, ladies.

NameChange30 · 31/10/2016 11:20

Butter Best of luck for your scan tomorrow - I'll be thinking of you.

Shy We usually wait until we've filled up the current thread (1000 posts) unless you're thinking of a different thread for something specific?

Butterpuff · 31/10/2016 11:30

Thanks all.
shylittlefrog baby has transposition of the great arteries. He/she will need open heart surgery in the first week of life. We are under Great Ormond Street so couldn't be in better hands. But the fewer other complications there are the better for the success of the op.
Carolann we are 4pm so ages to wait. I don't usually work Tuesdays but we have an audit tomorrow so I will be going in for part of the morning to speak to the auditor. A little distraction. Luckily I have felt loads of movement which is re-assuring. I wasn't in the least be anxious for any appointments with DD. Good luck tomorrow. Are you finding out the sex? We are not.

Carolann8584 · 31/10/2016 11:37

Butter Yes we are too impatient, My OH has 2 boys from a previous relationship so would like to be able to tell them they are having a new baby brother or sister. Also ours mums are chomping at the bit to buy things that aren't gender neutral. We aren't fussed either as long as beany is healthy. If we are unable to find out tomorrow, there is an Ultrasound company in the building I work in so will book a private one with them Smile

Hope your little one is ok with no further complications Flowers

Butterpuff · 31/10/2016 11:45

Thank you.

I'll be honest I'm more curious with this one than I was with DD. She was our first and we knew we wanted two, maybe because this will be our last I'd like to know if we are getting sisters or one of each. On the other hand everyone has a theory and I like listening to them and guessing.

Has anyone had a feeling about having a boy or a girl and got it right? Is there a mothers instinct that tells us do you think?

Carolann8584 · 31/10/2016 12:09

As my OH has boys already everyone keeps telling us we will have another boy, saying that my Dad has 5 boys and 1 girl so....

Butterpuff · 31/10/2016 12:14

In our family there are lots of one of each.........someone has to break the trend!

NameChange30 · 31/10/2016 13:17

Butter I don't think instinct can tell us whether it's a boy or girl - I've heard of plenty of people who are convinced one way or the other and then proved wrong!

Butterpuff · 31/10/2016 13:43

I've heard more that have been convinced and been right than wrong, but then you only tell the story if your right. I had no thoughts on it at all with DD. I'm leaning one way with this one but it may be that I have a small preference, so I wont say it out loud! MIL was convinced that DD was a boy.

I've been noticing movements for the first time, it is very strange but also exciting and reassuring Smile
My baby seems to be an evening person like his mum! Or at least like I used to be... I get very tired in the evenings now! (All the time to be fair!)

Carolann8584 · 31/10/2016 14:00

I change my mind daily on what I think we are having based of feeling and remembering old wives tales. One I remembered recently suggests we are having a girl, as my bump seems to be high and solid, so if it was a boy I would be carrying low, but again no evidence behind that so tomorrow can't come quick enough Smile

I think the solid part of my bump at the min will be organs shifting up and making room for beany Smile

Carolann8584 · 31/10/2016 15:24

Aqua Zumba tonight, never done it before but love anything water based so should be fun Smile

NameChange30 · 31/10/2016 17:09

Carol Have fun - I've been doing it and enjoying it!

charlybs · 31/10/2016 18:39

I genuinely had no idea whether ours was a girl or boy - turned out to be a boy but people had been so sure it was either haha.

carolann I am hopefully going swimming tomorrow looking forward to it Smile

I am having my scan tomorrow also . I already know the baby is a girl but I can't help being nervous and excited to see her again !
My bump is very high and form I must say . Had to stop wearing normal bras quite early as bump was causing chafing ! Smile

Carolann8584 · 31/10/2016 22:18

Well didn't make it to Aqua Zumba got home later than expected but a made it to the later Aquafit class, need to get a swimsuit with bump support, starting to feel the strain jumping around Smile

MotherofA · 31/10/2016 22:22

Oh my gut knew DD for my first ten years ago ... I didn't have gender reveal at scan but whenever anyone said I was having a boy it annoyed me because I knew in my heart she was a girl . I was exactly the same this time right from the get go and yet again a girl hehehe X

Carolann8584 · 01/11/2016 08:56

Scan day!!! GrinGrin
