Sipper what's a harmony test??

Sipperskipper · 13/10/2016 09:43

rasperry its the non invasive prenatal testing for downs, edwards & pateaus syndromes. More accurate than nhs screening- much less likely to give both false high and low risks. Its a blood test which looks at DNA in the mother's blood, results take about 2 weeks.

RasperryInAMelon · 13/10/2016 09:57

Thanks Sipper something you have done privately I guess?

Sipperskipper · 13/10/2016 10:01

Yes raspberry. I think on the nhs now some trusts pay for you to have it if the nhs screening comes out high risk. I am quite an anxious person so thought I'd rather just pay for it & get it done. It is pricey (£400), but I decided it was worth it for my sanity!

Adventuregame · 13/10/2016 10:07

I know Kings College in Denmark Hill do Harmony test as routine but it's the only place I've heard of.

Ghostonthedancefloor · 13/10/2016 10:46

Good luck sipper!!

Booking in appt today "between 10 and 12" so I know I'm going to be waiting around til 12.05!

Good luck to all the other booking in's today Smile

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/10/2016 11:07

Morning all and good luck to everyone having appointments, tests and scans! We're all here with you Smile

At my booking appointment the midwife said the hospital we're at is doing a pilot programme for screening, NIPT at 12 rather than 20 weeks. I wonder if this is the equivalent to the Harmony but through the NHS? She talked a lot and there was a huge amount of info so I can't remember everything.

There were two additional screening programmes they're trialling, the NIPT for abnormalities, and some extra growth projections and scans, even for normal low-risk pregnancies. We said yes to everything, may as well. And she said the growth projections one is to tackle the people who wonder why no one picked up on issues with the baby in utero e.g. slow growth etc. So they're charting more info and more often to help catch things.

Anyone been told similar?

PeachIcedT · 13/10/2016 11:22

Oh that sounds good to be part of that pilot Anne. I would tick yes to everything too.

I didn't know that about Kings Adventure. I'm under them and have scan 1st Nov but they didn't mention doing anything over the standard test in the appointment letter. It's run by the doctor who founded the feral medicine centre in London though so it sounds like a good place.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/10/2016 11:34

I've had a look through the web pages and the screening booklet for more info but there's nothing there at all, so it may be new. I'll remind myself to ask for more info at my first scan. DH remembers something but I think we were both a bit overwhelmed at the appointment!

Sounds like you're in a great place Peach, and I agree, yes to everything on offer.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/10/2016 11:35

I did find on the website info on perineal massage, acupuncture and hypnobirthing, which are all on offer - I had no idea the NHS was so alternative, it's brilliant!

RedBlu · 13/10/2016 12:18

So I had my booking in appointment last week and got my dating scan date though yesterday, it's not until mid November and I will be over 14 weeks? I thought it would be nearer 12 weeks, is it normal for NHS to sometimes have delays meaning it takes longer to get an appointment ?

Bit pissed of as I was hoping it would be nearer 12.

Feel utter crap today, been signed off work for the last two weeks as I am constantly nauseous or being sick and I am exhausted. Sad

Niks2026 · 13/10/2016 12:22

Red if you have chosen to have the screening scan then it needs to be done within a certain window of time. Can you not all to rearrange?

MissMooMoo · 13/10/2016 12:40

red are you having the screening? If so 14 weeks is too late

WishIWasSleeping · 13/10/2016 12:54

Afternoon everyone. Didn't even find the first post and it feels like it's taken me hours to read this one! Grin
May I join in? I have my own EDD of 14.5.17, got my mw booking tomorrow. I am BF my first (9mo) and have PCOS so no period dates to go on. Just have to guess until I get my scan! Had nausea with my first from about 4-14wks, but felt ok. The bands really helped. Can't find them this time and I've been so sick and so tired I've taken the week off of work and been packing the little one off to nursery and going back to bed for the day! So unlike me normally and I'm really fed up! Haven't eaten since Monday evening (when the sickness started) save some toast & half a banana yesterday, but trying to sip water as often as I'm awake!

Can't remember who asked what but M&S bras are fab for sleeping in, I prefer the slightly moulded ones, their pregnancy tights were also fab. I'm always laddering mine but the ones I brought from here lasted me months. (About £8!)
They test your pee at the mw for proteins, diabetes, hydration and for pregnancy! I got told off a few times last time for high protein and dehydration (tomorrow's going to be fun! Confused) I also got a lovely clean pot every time, (mw threw my 'old' pee away) and there was one in my 'booking pack' which we are able to pick up from Drs reception prior to booking in as it has lots of info to help with your booking process.
I've also managed to tell 3 sets of parents (mine and hubbys 2!) 2 people at work and he's told his brother even though I swore him to secrecy!
Took us over 18m to conceive first time around so this is a bit of a surprise! Cannot wait to tell my bestie (this weekend) but she's just got back from a massive life event and I really don't want to rain on her parade!
Anyway. That's the massive-ist message ever and I'm not going to C&P the list on top - maybe next time!
Hope this sickness buggers off soon. Sympathy to the rest of you sick ppl too! Sad

Difficultyear2015 · 13/10/2016 12:55

Hi all. I'm new here.
I found out I was pregnant last week but came off pill in July and hasn't had period since so unsure of how far along I am.
Had my initial docs appointment today and they have referred me to midwife so just got to sit tight and wait for midwife appointment and then scan to confirm dates.

I feel huge. I've got a noticeable bump and having to live in leggings and ponchos. I am not telling many people of than parents until I have scan.
I'm very nervous, but so excited.
Wish I didn't have to wait to find out how many weeks I am.

I haven't had any sickness but have had on and off cold for the last few weeks and hardly sleeping as getting up to use the loo so often.

Adventuregame · 13/10/2016 13:12

I feel so much better today Hmm
Not going to start getting worried again like I did at the weekend ! What will be will be........

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/10/2016 13:46

Welcome Difficult and WishIWasSleeping, nice to have you here.

Adventure, a good day is a good day Smile You have every reason to believe that everything's alright and to enjoy the break from feeling crappy and to eat and do anything else you fancy!

Sipperskipper · 13/10/2016 14:02

Scan went OK, its definately in there! Dr that scanned me was lovely, showed me arms, legs, head, umbelical cord, and got some little prints too! Go back in 2 weeks for results.

mrspage1985 · 13/10/2016 14:45

Hi all
Our early scan has finally come round and is tomorrow - booked it the day we found out 3 weeks ago today and it seems to have dragged these last few weeks.
Have been feeling really positive as I've had a lot of symptoms but now al starting to panic that it will be bad news again
M/C in June this year means I am constantly petrified Shock

If all goes well tomorrow then my booking in appt is the 24th and we will say yes to every test going I think!!
X

RasperryInAMelon · 13/10/2016 14:56

Has my booking appointment this morning, all went well. Met the Community Midwife who will be looking after me too which was really nice Smile

Safe to say I think I've been worrying waaaay too much about things! Of course it's just a a case of waiting until Wednesday for my dating scan, but today they said they think 8+1 so an early scan next week and she's booked me for my 16w appointment too for Dec 5th!

So much reading to do tonight with the Bounty Pack she gave me!

Felt ok today, managed an apple, yoghurt, chicken soup and some hula hoops with a few cups of Peppermint Tea - really need to try and get my fluid intake up... suggestions??

JulyLady7 · 13/10/2016 15:01

Awwww that's wonderful sipper! You must be so relieved and happy!

Rabbitykins55 · 13/10/2016 15:02

My booking in appointment was today, I can confirm I didn't get my sample pot back! Yay! Am I right in thinking they actually test for pregnancy with the urine sample as well as proteins etc too? I'm having a wobble about something going wrong and I don't want to waste my last test if I was tested today! Blush
Picked up my Emma's diary bits today too. I'm drowning in vouchers I'll probably never use!

talulahbelle · 13/10/2016 15:07

9+1 and I'm feeling loads better today. Nice and worrying in equal measure. I've got some stretchy cramps too, above the hip bones, I just hope it's the baby growing and shifting around as it should.

Such a long wait til my next scan.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/10/2016 15:16

Good news Rabbitykins! And yes, I absolutely thought the same, otherwise I can't believe they'd do all the other tests and just take my word for it. It sounds bizarre but I wanted to take a positive test with me to prove I wasn't just pretending!

Had a thought today about dates. I've always been 95% sure of the day I ovulated and therefore probably conceived - it was a week after my mc ad I've never had af since. Based on those dates I'm actually 9 + 1. But based on the LMP/mc date I'm 8 + 5.

I know it doesn't really matter.... But my scan isn't till 7 Nov, which is ages away for confirmation. What would you go with?

Rabbitykins55 · 13/10/2016 15:31

I did feel like a bit of a fraud in the waiting room surrounded by obviously pregnant women and there's me in my maternity jeans because they are way more comfortable than regular ones! I may never go back to normal jeans!
