Am I the only one still waiting for a midwife referral? Seeing my GP on Monday to be referred, I will be 8+2,anxious to get a scan date (and have my booking in!)

ginandcake · 05/10/2016 21:23

Don't panic, I saw my GP at 8+1 and it was all fine, booking appointment tomorrow.

Badgerbird · 05/10/2016 21:23

Don't think so missy, I'll be 7 weeks on Friday and I have no idea when all that stuff happens or how!!? I think because of my MMC history my gp is waiting to see result of my early scan (on fri) before moving ahead with anything else. Guess I can ask EPU if all goes well....

PeachIcedT · 05/10/2016 21:29

I'm watching gin, though it is heavily biased. It's a difficult topic, one I think I'll have to tackle if/when the time comes.

ginandcake · 05/10/2016 21:30

It is soooo biased.

Ghostonthedancefloor · 05/10/2016 22:26

Still waiting to hear anything of the midwife at 9+4!

Sonnet18 · 06/10/2016 06:24

talulah I too am a teacher and nearly had to run out of my class to be sick yesterday!! But know what you mean about leaving work can be more work than actually going to work!! Hope you feel better soon! I too am in bed for half 8 or so every night!

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/10/2016 10:08

Another sleepy one here. Had my booking in appointment yesterday. Nice hospital and all went well. It was slightly chaotic and I found it a bit overwhelming tbh but had a super early night and lots of nice sleep.

(For those who've been discussing this, I took a couple of empty pee pots out of the basket on reception for next time! Winning ;) )

Got my scan booked for 7 November.

Is anyone else finding it weird to be discussing the pregnancy with so many people, but not people you know? Receptionists, doctors, nurses, blood test people, they all know! - but not close friends or colleagues.

ginandcake · 06/10/2016 11:21

Just had my booking appointment and have realised that there is still a pot of pee in my bag, the midwife forgot to take it! Oh well.

Badgerbird · 06/10/2016 11:34

No gin! Not after all the pee pot talk on here surely!?! Grin

EsmesBees · 06/10/2016 11:39

Feeling incredibly rough today. Threw up in front of my 18m old earlier (no time to run to the loo) and she looked so scared and upset. And then I felt guilty. I do worry that we are going to ruin her perfect little life by bringing a new baby into the mix.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/10/2016 11:40

How was it other than the pee gin? I gave my pot to the midwife, she turned her back and did something, said "It's fine" and I didn't get to see it again. I'll count myself lucky! Did she at least test it and give it back to you?

What are they testing it for anyway? Pregnancy, to make sure we're not fibbing, or something else?

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 06/10/2016 12:49

Who said here she had strong-smelling wee? Did you ever find out why?
I'm noticing the same now and I definitely do keep well hydrated. Strange. Sorry for TMI, but it's also cloudy.

teainbed · 06/10/2016 13:01

Are you taking a vitamin supplement? Pregnacare and the other preggo multivits can discolour your wee. It's basically peeing out all the excess vitamins your body doesn't absorb.

ginandcake · 06/10/2016 13:09

She asked at the beginning if I had a sample with me, I said yes, she then sent me off to get weighed and never asked for the wee and I totally forgot. So no she never tested it. Don't think it's that important this early on though. Well hope not anyway!

PeachIcedT · 06/10/2016 13:13

I had my booking appointment first thing this morning (and they were still 30 minutes late - traffic they said). They took blood and urine from me, and I appear to have a reusable pot. Was all a little disorganised in that they didn't have computer access so now I need to collect my notes from somewhere else another day and book in my next midwife appointment. But at least it's done and I have my scan booked in for 1st November.

ginandcake · 06/10/2016 13:13

I felt the same when I was pregnant with DD2 Esme. I felt so guilty about what we were doing and how it was going to ruin her perfect little world. I spoke to a friend who had two and she told me that she had had the same worries but when the baby came all was fine. And it really is, you don't ruin their world, you just make it better, and DD1 cannot remember a time when her little sister wasn't around.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 06/10/2016 14:18

Yes I am taking Pregnacare, so that must be it.

ImogenTubbs · 06/10/2016 16:02

Had my blood test results back this morning - all normal. All the results are in Spanish so I've been sitting here translating them, but the midwife seemed happy! I think my blood pressure is a bit on the low side (100 / 60) and that makes sense as I've been feeling very light headed and a bit dizzy, but not sure what I can do except try and sit down a lot.

For those of you who already have one or more - how did you or are you planning to tell your earlier DC? We've been talking about babies more with DD1 but are planning to tell her after the scan, assuming all goes well and show her the picture. I've said to DH to not be surprised if she doesn't seem that bothered at first - I'm not sure it'll mean that much to her (she's three). Any other experiences?

lalaland1985 · 06/10/2016 16:04

I'm 9+5 today. I had my booking in appointment on Tuesday which went ok but I'm annoyed about a few things.

My BMI is 22 however because my mother had gestational diabetes then went on to have type 2 I'm considered high risk. I pointed out to the midwife that my mother was also obese during all her pregnancies and continued to be afterwards. She didn't take much notice and I've to have tests at 16 weeks and 28 weeks. She told me it was 50/50 that I could get it. I just don't think this is right. I'm fit and healthy, my mother was not.

They also are sending a referral to the local perinatal unit because I have a sibling with a diagnosed mental health difficulty. I have never had any issues with my mental health. It just seems a bit overkill. If I was worried I would seek help!

On the plus side the midwife didn't give me my urine sample back Smile

EsmesBees · 06/10/2016 16:21

Thanks gin that made me feel better. It's just another adjustment isn't it. But you are right, it will be worth it in the long run.

FoxMulder · 06/10/2016 16:44

It was me with the strong smelling wee but I'm not taking a multivitamin (make me sick)!

FoxMulder · 06/10/2016 16:45

I told DS as soon as I got my bfp because he was with me. "Oh my God, DS, there's a baby in my tummy" "take it out" he said. Fair enough.

jennymac31 · 06/10/2016 17:09

Imogentubbs- we've also been talking about babies to our 3 year dd and will probably wait until Christmas, as that's when were planning on telling most of our family.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 06/10/2016 18:12

Curiously my 2.5 yr old DS has been obsessed with babies in the last couple of weeks. Cuddling, feeding, laying to sleep his piggy, moose and donkey, calling them "my baby brother ". And stuffing them under his jumper pretending he's pregnant. We haven't talked about babies in front of him at all so it feels all very strange. I can't wait to tell him but have to wait until after 12 weeks.
