Hello! As the title suggests I'm pregnant (around 6 weeks with DC2) and still BF DD who is 17 months. I would really like to keep BF throughout and eventually tandem feed, but not sure what to expect.

Anyone else in a similar boat?

Hello, can I join? I just got my bfp and still breastfeeding my 2yo.. I never planned on feeding for this long but never had a reason to stop either. How are you all finding it?
We had successfully night weaned but then he got ill so it's kind of down the pan at the moment. Honestly it's only been a few days and I'm finding it pretty painful and exhausting, I really don't know if I'll continue or how I would stop if I wanted to! Hoping that we'll manage to cut some feeds during the distraction of Christmas etc.
How did your midwives react when you said you were also breastfeeding? I've got my appointment in a couple of weeks and I'm nervous!

Hope you find some answers and it all settles
Congratulations too x

I'm 17 weeks and still bf my 13m old. My midwife encouraged me to continue if I was happy. And I am to a certain extent, she's just started nursery and has a permanent cold so it's been nice to be able to give her comfort but bloody hell i'm tired! I only feed her before sleep (including naps) and overnight if she wakes but she's also fine without it if I'm not there. I was kind of hoping she'd go off it by herself but I'm not sure she will, think I will reassess in the new year.

I wrote a response to this a few days ago but just realised it didn't post gah!

Hi oaty yes I'm sure I recognise you from the TTC thread too? Congrats on the BFP! When's your EDD?

I'm still feeding DS usually twice a day so not too bad, sometimes it's a bit sore / sensitive when he latches. I deliberately cut down when TTC and he is night weaned - if I was still feeding loads I might think differently! I think my supply is decreasing though (15 wks). Will see if he gives up if supply runs out or he doesn't like the change in taste! Wasn't planning to tandem feed really but playing it by ear for now. I'm overseas and see a doctor who was non plussed when I said I was feeding DS but I think some HCP might have different reactions.

pumkin cheeky DC still not co-operating! Does that mean they couldn't get the NT measurement? Unfortunately the second test also failed! So I have asked them to try a different one (Harmony) and for peace of mind they also took bloods for the combined test which gave me low risk for DS so that has helped. Got a scan next week not sure if they can tell the sex at 16 weeks but maybe Dr can have a go!

peardropz sounds like a tiring time for you, bad enough being pregnant if you ask me! DS suddenly got loads of colds after he turned one and he's not even in nursery. Snotty toddlers are the worst! Sounds like we're in the same boat seeing who will give up first!

Got the Harmony results really quickly, just over a week - all low risk and we're having a little girl this time Smile

That's good to hear pear I think if I'm down to 4ish feeds a day I'd be happy; night weaning kind of went down the pan after a long sickness bout so concentrating on that atm. I'd love him to self wean as my milk dries up but he's such a milk monster!
Glad to hear all is well lullaby how lovely:)

Thanks oaty!

Argh the soreness has gone up a notch in the last couple of days and feeding is actively uncomfortable. I'm tempted to try and drop the evening feed and see how we go.

Thanks pumkin next scan on Tuesday, couldn't believe it's come round so quickly as I have been there so many times for blood tests lately! Will book the anomaly scan for Jan after this appointment - the next milestone. Good luck with the blood test next week and hope work isn't too stressful for you. Will you have a few days off?

Welcome fattycow how far along are you?

Let's us know how ur scan goes lullaby!
Yeah I've booked a few days off over Xmas really looking forward to that !
My anomaly scan is 17th Jan seems so far away at the minute

Is anybody worried how their lo is going to react at being a brother / sister ?

Report
Fattycowagain · 12/12/2016 21:20

I have no idea how far along I am! Last period was 12 October, but I only tested positive last Thursday... Last test I took before the positive one was about 2 or 3 weeks before that...
I'm seeing my midwife tomorrow. Hopefully she can find a heartbeat and tell me how far along I am. I somehow think nursing my eldest has screwed my cycle up. Wink

lullaby23 · 13/12/2016 03:32

pumkin yes definitely worried! But i am trying to look at the positive - DS will be so young he will adapt quickly and won't remember being an only child - here's hoping anyway!

Good luck with your appointment fattycow hope the midwife can give you some idea of where you are! Will they consider scanning you to date? Definitely agree the BFing screws everything up! Are you still feeding a lot?

Had my check up with Dr today all seems fine, heard the heartbeat and quick scan. She's measuring a bit behind for length and a bit ahead for head and tummy - must be taking after me Grin

The midwife did scan. External only showed cysts on my right ovary, which explain the sharp pains I have been having. But the internal confirmed a pregnancy! She could see a little something. No heartbeat yet, but she puts me at 5 weeks. I have another appointment next week to see if it's grown. Smile

So cute lullaby!! And great to have a heartbeat fatty, and know everything is ok. We've been on holiday for a week; the distraction of grandparents meant ds really cut his feeds down which was great but now we're home and post holiday blues has set in and he wants milk every 5 minutes, it's driving me nuts!

Report
Fattycowagain · 13/12/2016 12:47

No heartbeat yet, as it is too tiny now. Hopefully next week!

Good news fatty on the confirmed pregnancy bet you will glad when u get the HB let us know how the scan next week goes !
Went to the midwife today had the downs blood test but gutted as didn't do the Doppler heart beat apparently they don't do it anymore at 16 weeks so got to wait till 20 weeks scan in mid jan

I'm pretty sure things are progressing in there, as I have to fight waves of nausea. Didn't do to well today, ended up throwing up at work...

Can I join?

BFP today (still in complete shock) and I think I am about 4+5, and still breastfeeding my 18mo DS (I work FT so it's mainly once before bed and loads occasionally during the night (particularly if he has a cold, is teething etc)).

No real desire to give it up just yet unless DS decides he's had enough, but am secretly hoping he does lose interest before DC2 arrives (just to give myself a little bit of a break in between).

Thanks all, so nice to see the little wiggler!

Glad you saw your little blob on the scan fatty and hope you see the heartbeat next time. 5 weeks is early days, bet this pregnancy is dragging already! Hope the nausea eases off for you so you can enjoy Christmas.

oaty DS seems to be losing interest in BF, he still feeds but wanders off after a few minutes. Don't want to deliberately wean while we have long haul flights to take / jet lag to recover from but looks like we might be finishing soon. Maybe Christmas presents will be distracting for your DS?!

Shame you didn't get to hear the heartbeat pumkin strange how it varies from place to place. Count down to the anomaly scans is on then! Mine is 10th Jan can't wait. I'm doing ok thanks trying to sort my life out packing for Christmas hols. Flying on Friday night!

Welcome zig and congrats on the BFP. I know what you mean about wanting a break in between although in a way I wonder if it's easier to establish BF with DC2 if you're still going strong with DC1? I was pretty ambivalent but now it's quite painful so keen for him to finish...

Thanks lullaby - will definitely just play it by ear.

I don't seem to get the sore boobs that a lot of people get during pregnancy (well, I might this time around, who knows!) so am happy to keep going for now. Still such early days (think I'm only 5 + 4!) so plenty of time really.

Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to (hopefully) a bit of R&R in amongst the Christmas mayhem. I've just put my Out of Office on, such a good feeling Xmas Grin
