Hello! As the title suggests I'm pregnant (around 6 weeks with DC2) and still BF DD who is 17 months. I would really like to keep BF throughout and eventually tandem feed, but not sure what to expect.

Anyone else in a similar boat?

Congratulations missmouse! I'm still around too. Fifteen weeks now so getting bigger and just really tired. Last two nights I went to lie down on my bed to feed DS at his bedtime and we both feel asleep until he wanted another feed! How are you feeling?

Last week I arranged when I'm finishing work and it's much sooner than I'd expected. I have lots of annual leave that I accrued during my last maternity leave and which I need to use up before I go, so taking mat leave ten weeks before the baby is due and 35 days annual leave before that means I'm leaving in early June and the baby isn't due until early October. It'll be so nice to have the summer with DS and to get him properly potty trained too before the next one comes. He is keen on using the potty and sometimes goes all day without using his nappy but nursery don't potty train until he moves to the next room, which would have been September, I think, so we had to keep him in nappies.

It'll also be good not to have to commute to work/nursery 90 minutes each way with a fidgety toddler and a ten minute walk with him on my back each end. Can't wait!

Oh I didn't see your message Foggymist. Congratulations to you too. Hope you get some better sleep soon.

My son wakes a fair bit at night too due to his ropey digestive system. He gets quite bad acid reflux and painful wind. We have both been too tired recently to settle him back in his cot and just bought him in with us when he wakes. He's sleeping better as we can usually jiggle him back to sleep before he's properly woken up but he's so fidgety that we're still waking up exhausted.

Hi foggy congrats on your BFP!

You ladies still getting up in the night with older dc are heroes, especially in early pregnancy I needed so much sleep!

How's everyone doing?

Thank you both :) I've had minor pain when he latches sometimes but no worse than when he's teething, supply doesn't seem to have dropped but I'd say it may have slightly because he goes back for more from each side whereas he never did that before. Yes between the broken sleep, general life with a toddler, work and my husband doing a lot of overtime this week I'm exhausted. But I'm still in my pjs, dh is at work and ds is having a loooong nap so maybe I'll actually get to catch up a bit today :)

Hope you got a nice rest Foggy. How far along are you now lullaby?

I think my milk might be changing now. DS is feeding in a different way, longer and firmer but just on one side at each feed, and his bowels are really loose. He has even pooed in his nappy a few times recently which he'd usually only do when he's not well. Yuck!

It's such fun when their poos change cineraria Sad, I've heard they can go back to newborn colour once your milk comes back if they feed lots! I am 35+1, 4 weeks until ELCS so countdown is on.

I love it that I'm still feeding my eldest. She is my baby too!

How are you getting along? I'm having to limit DS to twice a day now as he went through a stage of wanting to boob snack all day and didn't want him to get used to it for when DC2 arrives!

Report
chocolateshortcake · 12/05/2017 08:08

I'm only feeding morning and night. It used to be a quick feed and off to sleep but it's turning into something of a boobathon now so I think my supply might be dwindling.

My ds still feeds in the morning, a couple of times during the day and 2-3 times in evening/night, but some days he has dropped to maybe 3 feeds altogether and it's so strange, I'm used to it happening so often!

Report
Fattycowagain · 12/05/2017 13:43

Foggymist, mine is the same. If I'm around, she will want my milk when thirsty, but if I'm out, she is totally fine drinking other things.

DS has just gone down to four feeds a day on just one side per session:
Train to work/nursery - left
Train home - right
His bedtime - left
Our bedtime - right

I thought they were getting less sensitive but yesterday he accidentally bit me hard on the right one whilst latching on the evening train and I nearly shot through the roof. It was still sore this morning and he kept poking it with his knees and elbow during his feed on the left one. Trying to keep him away from it was like wrestling an octopus. It wasn't a very dignified commute!

I'm just going to see what happens. DD might stop wanting to nurse before the new baby arrives, or she might want to continue. Or maybe, once the baby is here, she'll decide nursing is for babies and she's a big girl. I'm just going to roll with it.

I feel your pain cineraria (literally) I fed DS to sleep when we were flying home at Christmas and he would clamp down once asleep and it was a good thing I had a seatbelt on!

DS used to be pretty efficient when I had proper milk but now he will happily feed for 45 mins + given the chance.

I hope that means you are getting some nice relaxing sit downs before the next one is born, lullaby.

DS hasn't had a night feed the last two nights. The night before last was the first night since he was born in September 2015 that he slept right through. Of course I woke up anyway and couldn't get back to sleep! Last night looked like it would be similar even thigh he was unusually fussy with his dinner and hard to settle but then at half past three he woke up very upset and threw up all over DH when he picked him up. It went on for a couple of hours and he finally got back to sleep at half past five, still not wanting a feed, so DH is staying home with him today and I'll do tomorrow. This means he also missed the morning commute feed. Fingers cruised he's ok and that I don't explode before I get home!

Poor DS cineraria hope he's on the mend and your boobs survived the missed feeds. It's our last weekend as a 3 and plenty to keep us busy, I have a few meals to cook for the freezer and DH is putting together the bouncy chair, maxi Cozi and snuzpod so lots of swearing concentration on his part Grin Feeling a bit sentimental about DS no longer being an only but I'm sure having a sibling will be good in the end!

Report
Cineraria · 20/05/2017 09:40

Thanks. They survived ok as did DS. He was right as rain all day as if it hadn't happened. Then we had the same thing last night. I think it's his allergies as he doesn't seem ill and is perfectly happy as soon as hens emptied his stomach. Either he's had someone else's food at nursery without the staff spotting him or he is allergic to something we don't know about, maybe tomatoes are the culprit. They make his eczema worse but I didn't think they affect his digestive system.

So exciting to think this time next week there will be four of you. Hope your DS is thrilled about the new sibling when they meet. Good luck with getting all the equipment ready and DS not picking up any inappropriate new vocabulary!

Report
lullaby23 · 24/05/2017 02:45

That must be so tough dealing with allergies Sad I hope you can get to the bottom of it and he's feeling better. Am laughing at thought of toddlers stealing each other's food at nursery though, DS would totally do this!

So all went well & little miss born on Monday, feeding ok when she's hungry but won't entertain being woken to feed. Should be on our way home tomorrow. Toddler didn't ask for milk when he visited yesterday so we will see what he's like when we get back and whether I need to start a tandem feeding support thread Grin

Congrats Lullaby!

My ds hasn't had milkies since about 6pm yesterday, this is the longest ever, feels so strange :(

Oh lullaby, what a sweet snugly little face! I'd be so broody seeing that if I wasn't pregnant already! How are you feeling after the surgery? I hope you are recovering well. I also hope your son is gentle with you if he does decide to have a feed again. My one kept trying to pull off my towel and grab the other nipple with his toes when I fed him this morning after my shower before going to work! No wonder your little girl is protesting at being woken up for a feed; she's had a busy few days!

I had my anomaly scan yesterday and a cardiac scan too as I have a slightly high risk of Downs Syndrome in this pregnancy. The baby was doing some rather advanced yoga positions and I had to go and get a cold sweet drink to get him (turns out it's a boy) moving. The results were all good. No health problems visible, very tall going by leg measurement and no visible markers for Downs Syndrome either. My placenta is a bit low but I think it was last time and that improved with time.
