marmite I was consultant led last time due to section, just meant some extra appts and a nice extra scan at my 16 week appt! Didn't make much difference other than I was seen significantly more than I think I would otherwise have with second child which was reassuring. So not a bad thing I don't think. I had a few issues during the last pregnancy, and lots of scans so Will be consultant again this time (plus will be another section)

LuchiMangsho · 06/09/2016 11:18

I also had a scan through ultrasound direct, the baby bond thing in West London. That was my confusing scan with the woman I could barely understand, who told me it was a 'good thing' I wasn't having twins when one heartbeat was 'gone' (her words). When i walked in I could see the previous client's notes all up on the screen. I wasn't all that impressed I have to say, but I think they are like a franchise operation so differ from area to area.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 06/09/2016 12:16

We had an ultrasound direct private scan last time in London - the sonographer we had was really good - when the scan revealed some complications she was excellent in explaining them, being reassuring and emphasising the need to get a consultant referral ASAP. Luck of the draw I guess - I had some great NHS sonographers and some who weren't that helpful.

I'm hoping to hold my nerve until the 12 week scan - feel I'd rather get the full picture then (and I know the hospital are amazing on ante-natal scanning).

Has anyone had their MW check for a heartbeat at the booking in appointment? Mine did last time although to be honest I can't remember if she was able to find it or not - as I'd had a private scan only a couple of days ago it wasn't really a big deal but just wondering if they will offer it this time and whether I will get nervous if they can't find it.

SloanePeterson · 06/09/2016 12:29

Not looking good for me, 9+3 and I have bright red blood when I wipe and cramping Sad I had a miscarriage earlier this year at 6 weeks and this is how it started. Trying not to worry but it's very hard not to

hummingbird100 · 06/09/2016 12:37

Just been back to bed for an hour, I rarely can sleep during the day so must have been knackered.

Oh no sloane have you called the EPU to see if you can have a scan? Fingers crossed its nothing x

Cazbg · 06/09/2016 12:42

-Sloane- I hope it is all okay. I would give epu a ring or your midwife. Big hugs! X

SloanePeterson · 06/09/2016 12:42

I don't know if this is odd, but id rather not. I don't really want to have to go through the trauma of a scan finding no heartbeat or no baby. The epu is a proper trek for me and I have to be on call for my son. This is a time of year I find hugely difficult anyway, a lot of anxiety attached to September which has reared its ugly head in the last few days. I was worried something was off as my nausea had kind of tailed off and I'm not quite as exhausted as I have been. I'll give it a few days. Last time I had some streaks of blood when I wiped for a few days and then it started properly, I'd expect more of the same if it's all gone wrong again.

Cazbg · 06/09/2016 12:44

(Sorry I can't remember how to bold... Useless at this sort of thing!)

I am having a nervous few days as symptoms seem to have got significantly less. Have a scan at 8.30 tommorow, think I am preparing myself for the worse. shattered today but think that is more due to lack of sleep as stressing!

marmitecheesetoast · 06/09/2016 13:06

Thanks gorilla that's a good way of putting it. I suppose I just didn't cross my mind so took me by surprise!

I also used the ultrasound sound direct baby bond service in the NW. My sonographer was great, but it sounds like it does depend. It was also £99.

Hoping everything is ok for you sloane

hummingbird100 · 06/09/2016 13:18

I'll mention it again in case it's of interest, Groupon often has some deals on baby scans and I saw some near me at £49, half price from £99. Smile

I feel I should be much more pregnant now! I'm 7+3 (longer cycles so I'd say about (6+5) and I'm so impatient to be further along, these early weeks are so stressful.

MrsBac83 · 06/09/2016 13:21

Thanks all for the response about the private scan. I'll be given the date for my scan at my booking in apt later today so depends how far away that is.
The week I hit 12 weeks is when we're on holiday so not sure if they'll prefer a scan before or after.

Oh Sloane sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed its nothing but still super scary! Keep us posted.
I must admit I do keep expecting to see blood at some point. Why do we do it to ourselves?!

everdene · 06/09/2016 13:23

How long after booking in do most people get their 12 week scan appt? I'm hoping to have my scan before the end of Sept but it was a bit vague as to when I'd hear. Do most places book in for the scan at the booking-in appt?

sarahhh1984 · 06/09/2016 13:35

Hi everdene, I'm in the Liverpool area and my midwife made my scan appointment over the phone while I was with her at my booking appointment yesterday. Not sure if that helps you at all!

Midrog · 06/09/2016 13:53

bubbins it's normal practice now for midwives to not listen in to the heartbeat until 16 weeks because they are so difficult to find before then and most mums freak out when it can't be found.
For people saying about midwives missing breech's etc.....unfortunately it happens. They are notoriously difficult to identify and are sometimes missed by the most experienced midwives until the point of delivery. Ultimately though fundal height measurements are actually incredibly accurate at finding small/large babies provided every measurement is done by the same midwife which is often the problem.

Also I'm the same with the nausea, I have to be constantly eating or it rears its head again bluurrggghhhh!

hummingbird100 · 06/09/2016 13:59

MW just called, I've got my booking appointment on the 22 Sep at 9:30 - I'll have had my reassurance scan on the 19th so hopefully that'll show all is ok.

Earlier this year (with mc) I had a letter with my scan date before the booking appointments so I'm assuming that was generated from GP referral, but when I was pregnant with DS in 2013 I had to chase it up, I didn't receive a letter until a few days before my scan at just over 12 weeks.

marmitecheesetoast · 06/09/2016 14:17

I was given my 12 week scan appointment at booking-in appointment this morning everdene. Maybe ring them up and check when you should find out if you've still not heard anything in a few days?

Celen · 06/09/2016 14:49

Sorry to hear your worries Sloane and Cazbg Sad

OP posts:
Celen · 06/09/2016 14:51

I've still not heard about my scan either everdene and I'm due 2 April.

Can't believe how much the procedure for getting the 12 week ultrasound varies! I'm sure I just get a letter in the post so I've been practically leaping in the postman since my booking in appointment Grin

OP posts:
MrsRhubarb · 06/09/2016 14:55

Where I am the hospital generate your scan appointment from the GP referral, which I'm relieved about as my booking in isn't until 11+3 Shock That said I haven't had a letter through yet

Sloane I really hope you are okay, thinking of you

jobrum · 06/09/2016 15:07

Here, the gp arranges for the mw to contact you for the booking and contacts the hospital who send a scan appointment so I just sit back and wait.

Celen · 06/09/2016 15:07

In my first pregnancy, my MW couldn't find the heartbeat at 16 weeks so I had to go to the hospital for an ultrasound. DS was just being awkward...story of his life so far Grin

OP posts:
Jaffacakes1234 · 06/09/2016 15:26

Here after booking the mw sends info to the hospital and they send you a scam date in the post. I had booking yesterday, I'm 9+4 so I'll be postman stalking from the end of the week!!
Had my booking and am consultant led, will be a section at 39 weeks, feels very real now!!

Jaffacakes1234 · 06/09/2016 15:28

ecofreckle it's me that's bfing too. I'm not too far from you either I'm in Cambridgeshire

hummingbird100 · 06/09/2016 16:03

I'm bf too Smile Desperately trying to get down to just morning and nights but it's not going well!

jpeg28 · 06/09/2016 17:02

Just checking in.... Sorry haven't managed to catch up on everything.

Sloane I'm sorry you're bleeding... It may not be bad news, fingers X for you.

I've had a really rubbish day at work... Got in at 7 an drank some orange juice really fast as I thought it's what I wanted, then had to run to the toilet as I was convinced I was going to throw up... I didn't. I've felt sick all day long and it's been so hard to concentrate on anything. To make it worse my shit head of department spent the day as always doing nothing while I was inundated with work Angry home on the sofa now and I really want chips and beans!! Is that bad?!

Sorry if I've missed anything... It's been a couple of days since I've been on here and it moves so fast!!
