Congrats Hummingbird

Just trying to catch up on the last few days. Congratulations to everyone with good scan news, brilliant Smile

My dating scan is in 2 days! Shock It's come round so fast. LMP puts me at 12+1 however still breastfeeding DC2 so cycles were a bit wacky. I'm certain I ov'd on CD 24 though so I'll only be 10+5, confirmed by private scan. I did explain this but they insisted on using LMP date so will have to go back for NT measurement I assume as they can only do it from 11+2 here.

Yesterday and today have been fairly symptom free, just mild nausea, which of course has me worrying like crazy. Was absolutely convinced this morning that we'll find out on Wednesday its another mmc Sad Trying to stay away from Google and just try and stay as calm as possible until Wednesday. Thankfully scan is 9am so don't have to wait all day.

DC1 starts school tomorrow. I was supposed to be leaving work at 7 but I'm going to be here until 10 at least so DH is doing baths and making sure everything ready. I'm sure there will be tears tomorrow. Only from me and DH though, DS is thrilled to be going to 'big school!'

Bubbinsmakesthree · 05/09/2016 20:02

Congratulations for those who have had lovely scans.

And congratulations on the job hummingbird. You could always tell a little white lie and say you didn't know until after you accepted the job if you feel awkward about it. To be honest, there is never really an ideal time to take maternity leave, it's just something employers need to work around whether you've been there 5 years or 5 minutes.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 05/09/2016 20:05

I've been feeling so run down today. Less nauseous but like I have virus or something - so very tired, shivery, slightly sore throat. Don't know if I'm ill or it's a pregnancy symptom. Just want to sleep!

finova · 05/09/2016 20:06

I feel guilty about taking mat leave as its my 3rd. Feel like I'm pushing my luck a bit. Last baby was 2012 though so it's not been 3 in a row.

Number4OnTheWay · 05/09/2016 20:09

Bubbins that sounds like your ill :(

MrsRhubarb · 05/09/2016 20:11

Congrats Hummingbird

All being well, I plan to home birth this time. I am 5 mins from the hospital so if I change my mind or need a transfer it will be easy to do, but last time I was at home for all but the last hour so to be honest it seems like more faff than its worth.

I remember being asked about home birth at my booking in with DD and my reaction being "God, no!" I feel I know a lot more since then, especially about what feels right for me. Obviously if there are any complications nearer the time we will have to research and change my mind accordingly. DH is very supportive of a homebirth, which is great.

Ate a kids meatballs at Ikea, and stomach churned all the way home, I was sat in the car thick with sweat clutching a plastic box "just in case". Luckily it did stay down, even if it hurt like hell, so that's the best meal I've had in days. Feeling very fed up and sorry for myself this evening.

TopKittyKat · 05/09/2016 20:22

Congratulations Hummingbird That's great news.

Sorry to here some of you have awful symptoms and others are worrying with no symptoms. We can't win, can we!

I've been feeling awful and weak today. I can't wait for the second trimester...

Theknittinggorilla · 05/09/2016 20:30

Aaand the peeing has started. Every time I stand up, at least once overnight. Sigh. And first day back at work today after hols and felt so sick all day. In every meeting I had an almost uncontrollable urge to tell them I am pregnant! I resisted, just.

Congrats to all those who have had lovely scans. And hummingbird wow very impressive! Congrats!

I attempted a vbac last time but ended up with 80 hours of early labour and another c section in the end anyway. So I am elcs all the way this time. A bit nervous of a third section but no option really.

Is anyone else having one of the nifty tests? I was thinking of doing the serenity test at 10 weeks ish. Extra reassurance plus less time to wait. Still haven't had my scan date yet but have my booking in next Wednesday. Am only 7+2 though.

JennyOfOldstones · 05/09/2016 20:38

My local hosp does a version of Harmony now so I will do that if it isn't too expensive. It is only free if you come out high risk on your combined test.

I had lovely ideas about a water birth in the midwife unit last time then tested positive for GBS and waters broke but nothing happened. Ended up with induction, epidural and ventouse. I loved the epidural and that will be the only thing on my birth plan this time!

Niks2026 · 05/09/2016 20:45

Congrats hummingbird great news!

It's definitely a no win situation...the more symptoms the worse you fell, the less symptoms the more you worry.

First proper day back at work for me today after the glorious summer holidays. I think I did pretty well. Managed to keep the nausea at bay by snacking every so often. Not too often that I was just a fatty scoffing her face though! Hmm I think!

Back tracking to MILs, mines pretty horrendous at times. I just don't understand why they are like it?? Are they like it just to us daughter in laws or are they actually like that as a person??
My friend can't stand her mother in law but I don't think she's bad at all really. My friend has boys and I've earned her how much she dislikes her MIL could one day be how her sons wives feel about her.
My sister has the opposite...a doting loving MIL which is sometimes way to over the top.
I just see mine as little as possible, DH agrees how difficult she is and prefers the distant relationship. Once every few weeks is enough!!

Bubbinsmakesthree · 05/09/2016 21:16

number4 - I do tend to feel a bit flu-y like this when I'm premenstral so it might all be related to the pregnancy, who knows! Either way, will definitely be an early night!

knitting - We get Harmony on the NHS if we are high risk and as I was very high risk last time and I'm nearly 40 now I will be surprised if I'm not high risk again this time. Might consider paying for it if not though, depends on how close to high risk we are.

Niks2026 · 05/09/2016 21:39

I've never heard of all these fancy scans, what are they??

Bubbinsmakesthree · 05/09/2016 22:07

They're blood tests which give much more accurate results than the results of the nuchal screening:

MumiTravels · 05/09/2016 22:17

I wanted a home birth with my first baby but ended up with EMCS as he was breech and his heart rate was dropping so they whipped him out at 37 weeks.

I've got a retroverted uterus and they said I may end up with another breech baby because of the shape of it. I just want minimal bodies and medical devices around.

Not sure if I'll be MW led or consultant led this time, not sure what the criteria is. I live 10 miles from a hospital with a good maternity unit, just a shame about the town it's in Blush

I was telling multiple midwives and a consultant that my baby was breech for weeks on end and no one believed me. Consultant eventually scanned me and he was breech. About 6 different midwives had examined me and not one could feel he was breech. He was breech with one leg up to his head and one in my pelvis. Imagine if he has tried to come vaginally like that. I'm now nervous of midwives.

ecofreckle · 05/09/2016 23:36

Mumi you're not in Bedfordshire are you?

Scandi and the other lady whose name I have forgotten; solidarity on the breastfeeding through first trimester. Bleurgh I'm tired.

So envious of you guys that are ten weeks plus. Not even seven here.

I had my first child at home in Norfolk. Now moved to Bedfordshire so no clue yet about the maternity services or whether a 41 year old will be allowed one.

Hats off to all you teachers. Tough stuff. I train teachers so my classes are much more forgiving than a sea of year nines. Generally!

Look at the time. I'd best away to sleep. Hope the pregnancy insomnia does one for everyone tonight

jobrum · 06/09/2016 04:16

2:52 toddler wakes up. 4:15 toddler fonally asleep again. I'm going for a wee and a biscuit!

jobrum · 06/09/2016 04:21

mumi that's a terrifying posistion!

MrsBac83 · 06/09/2016 09:16

Morning all. Smile
Is anyone else super hungry? I could eat a scabby horse and still ask "What's next?" I find I feel sick if I don't eat constantly regularly though. I have been pretty lucky sickness wise as long as I can snack.

Just wondering if it's only me. No other major symptoms (slightly sore boobs, weeing a fair bit) had some cramping and headaches early on but they've eased off and not as tired as I was at first.
I'm 8+3 today and have booking in apt tonight. Can't wait. Really eager to have scan though as I'm with those that don't really believe its happening/convinced something will go wrong until then.

Annilack · 06/09/2016 09:27

Just checking in.

Hope everyone is starting to feel more normal as they approach 12 weeks.

Baby 2 due 29th March
X

hummingbird100 · 06/09/2016 10:24

MrsBac Me too! I can't stop eating. Today I've had cereal, then a huge bacon/mushroom/tomato sandwich and now am eyeing up a Crunchie. I'm also really exhausted.

MyGreenSofa · 06/09/2016 10:27

MrsBac - I feel much the same with the eating but I often leave it too long then end up feeling more sickly!

9 weeks today according to LMP but have long cycles so probably will be put a few days back at scan. Got a private scan this Sunday so starting to get nervous for that. Booking in is on Friday. Think I may have a UTI too.

I do have nausea for most of the day but feel like it's less than with DD. I suppose that can be normal though. Knackered, but then I always am! Lots of food aversions though. Just trying to convince myself I have plenty of symptoms!

Mumi - I'm expecting to be consultant led following an EMCS. I think you'd need to be monitored in case of rupture if trying for a VBAC. I know what you mean about the midwives. They do seem to rely far too much on feeling bump and measuring when it's full of errors!

MrsBac83 · 06/09/2016 10:38

Thanks guys. At least I'm not the only one. I'll assume it's normal.
hummingbird your morning snackage sounds delish!
I think I jinxed myself by posting this morning: I feel like I've been thwacked with the tired stick and kinda dizzy now. Boo. Today is going to drag!

Can't find the message now but sorry to hear of previous mc of little bean.

How do you book a private scan? do they cost much?

marmitecheesetoast · 06/09/2016 10:43

mrsbac I am constantly grazing too, I also have to keep eating to stave off nausea! Had booking in this morning (really late for work took an hour and 15 mins!) and have quite low BP so another reason to keep smacking!

Waiting for bloods too to see if I'm anaemic given the fainting.

MW surprised me putting me down as consultant led due to the fact I have an inability to absorb B12 in my gut which means I have quarterly injections. And also because I was hospitalised for 3 days in 2014 due to an undiagnosed tropical virus I picked up in Asia...Hmm she said consultant might see me once and refer me back to midwife led. Just never even crossed my mind I could be consultant led so a bit taken aback I guess Hmm

marmitecheesetoast · 06/09/2016 10:45

Also hummingbird congrats on the job! And jealous of your bacon tomato and mushroom sarnie!!

MyGreenSofa · 06/09/2016 11:07

MrsBac - I booked my private scan through ultrasound direct. The baby scans are called baby bond. They have clinics across the country. I've heard mostly good things about them. Price here for early scan is £99 but I'm near London.
