MarmiteMad - Sorry for the typo of your name - carpal tunnel is adding to my already imprecise typing skills

MrsJ - Forgot to say - Glad Millie turned out to be a reasonable weight after all your previous concerns about her growth

Peachygirl - a good relaxed attitude to BFing is part of the key to success so it sounds like the two of you will do fine - With DS we found that we had lots of advice - all of it right but not all of it suitable for you and your LO IYSWIM

SBN -just realised your not on my stats list - sorry will add you to next posting

CurrantBun · 19/02/2007 10:09

Snugglebumnappies, am also bang on 39 weeks today so know how you feel. Last saw midwife just over a week ago and was 3/5 engaged still, so no further movement downwards. She did say they don't always fully engage until actual labour starts though so am not unduly concerned.

I don't know why I'm getting worried about going over due when I still have a week until my EDD. I was apparently 4 days late and my brother was born the day after his EDD so early babies are not the norm in my family anyway. I think it's just the dread of induction that's got me stewing, as everyone I've spoken to who's been induced has gone on to have a difficult birth with varying degrees of intervention.

My changing bag arrived this morning from the Glasgow Pram Centre. I have to say that their service is fantastic. I ordered the bag on Thursday morning, they rang me on Thursday afternoon to tell me it would likely arrive Monday, and it was delivered at 9am this morning. Over Christmas I also ordered our cot from there - didn't order until Friday and paid extra for a Saturday delivery (expecting to have to wait until the following Saturday) but they were able to get it to us the next day. All in all very impressed each time I've used them. Shame I can't say the same about Two Left Feet but we won't go there ...

MoosMa · 19/02/2007 10:13

What a difference a day makes! I went to bed last night depressed and uncomfortable, then while lying on my right I realised that the LO has plopped painlessly round to my left again Then this morning I've had what I think is a couple of bits of a show - it's not a big lump of jelly, more great quantities of slime (sorry I know that's TMI!).

Mw is coming tomorrow to do a sweep so hopefully she'll tell me I'm nearly ready!

snugglebumnappies · 19/02/2007 11:21

Hi DrJo, don't worry have always been very vague about when baby is due, just saying end of Feb, actual EDC is 26th Feb and as I won't be right at the bottom of the list (sorry Forgotten!!) you can happily stick me in there

Currantbun, it's wierd isn't it, I have always been pretty tuned in with my babies, but this one is a mystry to me, no idea when he is going to turn up, was 39+6 with DS and T+7 with DD (but I think that is more to do with the fact that she was breech and had no presenting part in the pelvis). Seeing my m/w again on Fri but there really isn't much she is going to do so I'm just going to try and relax and enjoy the time I have.

lots at Moosma, oh we are an exciteable bunch these days!!

Just booked a week at Center Parks for the end of July, really looking forward to this as there seems to be so much for everyone, especially DD and DS which means I will have a bit of time to relax hopefully. My parents and sisiter and her partner are joining us for the end of the week so it should be lovely (have to say it is sooo expensive but everyone has said it's well worth the money and my mum has paid for half of it, bless her!).

peachygirl · 19/02/2007 13:14

Hi everyone A quick post as I am supposed to be in the bath. A quite good night and so far todat two good Bfeeds ( lasting about 20 mins) the midwife saw us yesterday and told us to stop the two hour timed feeds as she looked well and it would become too stressful for us. so we are now feeding on demand, although I am monitoring it closely as this is where it went pear shaped in the hosptal when she got too sleepy.
I've finally managed to do my birth announcement and I suppose I should show my face over the other side on the postnatal thread. Good luck everyone. My parents are coming to day so I may not get chance to post

DontCallMeYummy · 19/02/2007 13:26

Stood up on Valentine's Day - by my own son!
So now after worrying that my baby will be Down's / premature / breech / posterior etc I can now add 'late' to the list and live in fear of the 'sweep' and the oxytocin drip. In all the Earth Mother books I've read it says that most 1st babies are late, nothing to worry about, if you were in France 41 weeks is considered usual gestation time etc but then I go for my check-ups and the midwife throws in words like 'stillbirth' and 'just to be on the safe side' and I get all worried again. Tomorrow I have to see the hospital doctor - the first time ever! - and then have an acupuncture session with an nhs woman I've been trying to fit me in since October. Have spent the last few days alternating between getting the rest everyone says will not be a possibility once he does leave the departure lounge, and taking my place at the front of the pregnancy yoga class as the elder stateswoman of the group. Even considered walking up Primrose Hill the other day but thought better of it and went home for hot chocolate and more of that rest stuff.
On the plus side, any babies born as of yesterday qualify as 'Golden Pigs', a very auspicious birth year according to the Chinese which only comes round every 60 years. Apparently in Asia condom sales are down and baby shops are opening in droves in anticipation.
I'm going now to run to the shops to buy some chocolate so congratulations to all the mothers with punctual little Dogs out there, and thanks to 3 of you for choosing my name, my DP's name and a variation of our GP (Golden Pig)'s name for your little ones!

forgottenfreetime · 19/02/2007 16:27

LOL at Yummys post. And sharing the emotions of moosma! I've been up and down like a yoyo over the past few days. Today after a good nights rest is a good day! Got some jobs done (toilet light fitting replaced, broken toy ready to post to be exchanged...) and feel very satisfied with my days work. Also had the energy to be indignified at the highly sensationalist journalism about children and the TV. As if its new news that all day TV will affect kids! Where they got the link to autism from ive no idea (praps peachy will?) but usually that is such a complicated thing to investigate that it would incredible to 'prove' a strong causal link. More likely an association (if you're going to be autistic you like to watch a lot of tv.) DH (who soaks all these kind of scaremongering articles up like a sponge) came home and said lets get rid of all the TVs! Pointed out that 3 mins later he was asking me to put the news on and turn it up! Grrr as if being a parent isn't hard enough, another thing to feel guilty over - every second of teletubbies! Sorry for rant. First timers will have no idea yet but TV can be terribly helpful at someone elses house, when you have vistors etc or when you're 8.5 months pg, sick and need a rest!

MoosMa · 19/02/2007 16:40

Yay, more goo! Getting more and more show-like as the day goes on... I shall be very surprised if tomorrow the mw says I'm not getting anywhere yet.

Alocin · 19/02/2007 16:48

Moosma

I've had lots of slime with a pinkish bloody tinge for about 3 days, can I be hopeful that things are moving in the right direction then?!

MoosMa · 19/02/2007 17:09

Oh yes! I think shows can happen a week or 2 in advance but even so, it certainly means things are getting ready! Maybe you won't need to be induced after all

ja9 · 19/02/2007 19:17

just a quick post. still here. still in one piece. still fed up! have enjoyed having dh off on half term to look after me! he's back to school tomorrow so i'll need to fend for myself again. if i'm honest, i don't think i believe that this baby will ever come.. which is ridiculous when i'm not even due until saturday. i really need to give myself a shake!

sallyn · 19/02/2007 20:50

...well clearly he couldn't stay in there forever, although he gave it a very good try. my name was top of that list for ages, and I was finding it too distressing so I just haven't been able to look at MN for the last week so have lots of catching up to do - congrats to those who've done it and good luck to those to come.

My boy, Noah, finally arrived 13 days late, 5 hours before a planned induction, and with such ferocity that I had to have an emergency c-section. Homebirth went out the window because all the midwives were busy, but it was just as well in the end! To keep a long story short, and not too upsetting, it turned out some of my waters had ruptured at some point earlier in the week and the baby got stuck in a posterior position, and he just couldn't make it though from that position. Anyway, he's bloomin adorable and I'm absolutely smitten. Gotta go and stare at him now.

FWIW, to those with planned sections, or who end up with them anyway, IMO it's really not bad in terms of pain afterwards and your best bits are intact, which was something that was worrying me. Hurrah for the surgeon's swift knife and invisible stitching!

Bestest wishes to you all.

ja9 · 19/02/2007 21:00

awww, fabby news sallyn! and lovely name too. dh and i were just talking about 'noah' tonight.

enjoy!

MoosMa · 19/02/2007 21:11

Congrats Sallyn, sorry you didn't get the birth you wanted but it sounds like that was a good thing, glad it all went ok in the end! Will you do a gory birth anouncement to shock all of us still waiting?

sallyn · 20/02/2007 08:37

Thanks girls. Will post a brief birth story then hit the "help, I'm having a nightmare breastfeeding" threads... though luckily my partner has proved superhuman and just covered off the first night at home giving the baby expressed milk to give my nips a rest.

For the stats list, Noah was born on February 16.

TTFN x

DrJo · 20/02/2007 11:02

Congratulations SallyN and welcome to Noah - You are now bottom of the "babies" list instead of top of the "due" list Hope you manage to get the BF sorted - do you have a local BF clinic?

SmudgeMum · 20/02/2007 11:38

Congrats Sally, I was looking at your name on the due list yesterday and decided you must have had a LO by now!! Glad all is well with you and Noah. Good luck with the feeding. Sounds promising Alocin and Moosma, keep at it!! Got a LO who doesn't want to be put down today so one handed typing - it's so slow!

hairycaterpillar · 20/02/2007 11:52

Hello all!

We finally got out of hospital last friday after being re-admitted for Ben to have phototherapy. It's so good to be home definate cabin fever was setting in at the hospital (cant belive women used to stay in hospital for a week postnatally routinely!). Unfortunately DH is now back at work so have been forced back in at the deep end.

Sooo many new babies while I've been in...CONGRATULATIONS to all!

What's it mean if your name is in bold on the stats list??

Sallyn- Glad to hear Noah has arrived (love the name) hope the bfing sorts itself out.

Sympathy and hugs to all of you still waiting and feeling rotten.

forgottenfreetime · 20/02/2007 12:01

Congrats to Sallyn. Lansinoh nipple cream is my favorite product of motherhood. Hope the probs ease soon.
I'm still here in one piece too ja9! In fact just these last two days I feel less pregnant than I have for a while. Maybe I've just got ginormously fat with horrendously swollen ankles?! Was really shocked at the size of my ankles yesterday evening - haven't seen them like that ever before - not even after 12hr overnight flight to China where I didn't move from the seat (asleep). Feel less energetic today than yesterday - knew it was too good to last. DS at granmas today so can have a nap at lunchtime goody!

Sending patience and calm birthing vibes to all of us left and calming and good feeding vibes to all those with babies!

forgottenfreetime · 20/02/2007 12:04

Xposts Hairy, Glad to see your home and heres hoping you and Ben have some lovely times now. Its a shame isn't it when all your partners leave is used up when you are in hospital? That's what happened to me first time round. As soon as I got home DH had to go back to work!

MoosMa · 20/02/2007 15:30

Contractions coming every 3 minutes for the last hour, can I get excited yet?

Alocin · 20/02/2007 16:04

Ooo moosma, you are ahead of me - slow down so I can catch up! Sounds like the Real Thing to me - good good luck.

forgottenfreetime · 20/02/2007 16:16

Definitiely sounds like you can get excited moosma - let us know how things go! Good Luck

CurrantBun · 20/02/2007 16:18

Sallyn, congratulations! Noah is on our boys' names list too ... Also reassuring to know that a c-section isn't necessarily as bad as it sounds, and quite nice to be able to keep the undercarriage intact too!

Hairycaterpillar, Ben is my favourite boys' name and always has been - unfortunately if we have a little boy we can't call him Ben as it's hubby's name and we're not into the American thing of "Ben Jnr".

Snugglebum, you will love CenterParcs; it's fab. Have been there about 5 times (only a long weekend though - we could never afford the full week!) and there's something for everyone. We used to go there with two other couples but suspect it'll be very different when we next go as there will be two babies (ours and one of the other couples). The couple without children may not want to come with us any more!

Met some of the girls from my antenatal group for coffee this morning. Am loving maternity leave so far! Yesterday I went for a 3.6 mile walk in the afternoon which was lovely - am trying to walk as much as possible as midwife said it might help encourage the baby to be born.

Re. shows - I don't think I've had one but have had monumental amounts of vaginal discharge over the past week or so (sorry if TMI!) which according to one of my books is normal as you get closer to the due date. If it was a 'show' it hasn't been blood-tinged or pinkish or anything - completely clear in fact, so don't think it can have been. I'm also getting masses of Braxton Hicks contractions - a lot more than I was getting before. Hopefully these are all positive signs. Baby isn't due till Monday but would be quite happy with an early arrival. Baby is definitely a Pig now though!! Quiet pleased actually as the Chinese seem to think this is something really special.

DrJo · 20/02/2007 16:44

HC - glad to hear you are back home - with DS I was in for 10 days - I knew it was a long time as I was on first name terms with the ward cleaner who didn't say so much as "good morning" to the other mums

Bold on the stats is just my way of flagging up the new arrivals since the last stats posting

Looks like you could be moving up the ranks soon Moosma - Good luck
