Behold, the wonder of birth! Members from 6 weeks bfp to post-partum wonder Mamas! No question to grotty or minging.

We've come full circle from obsessing about cervical mucus to now obsessing if it's our vagina baby plug going! What larks!

Lots of talk about poo, ours and now babies too! Baby brain is REAL! This heat can kiss my arse. And who KNEW being so neurotic about which changing mat to buy could be so satisfying and addictive!

Roll up literally, in my case, cause I'm practically rotund! for TTC #1 Grads!

Flowers potato ! that sounds like a very traumatic phone call.
Your OH is right though. You have to give priority to your own health and to Arya.

when your mum was well, i am sure she would agree with you.

you have definitely done the right thing for Arya and yourself. It also sounds as if your sister is doing all she can to help and support you (even if she is so far away).

my latest discovery....... i'm no longer allowed to sit in the emergency exit row on an airplane..... i.e. the seats with extra leg room Sad

Planeteer · 26/08/2016 22:06

Just popping up to send hugs to potato and leonie. And also chocolate, because! Chocolate

leoniethelioness · 26/08/2016 22:08

Thanks! Baby has finished phototherapy and may be allowed back to me in the middle of the night if his blood sugar is okay. 😁

HepKestrel · 26/08/2016 22:23

yey! fx

ElleSarcasmo · 26/08/2016 22:32

Oh Potato, that sounds horrendous Sad hugs to you. I agree with your OH, you have to put yourself and Arya first.

Thanks for the recipe Bunch, it's definitely worth a try! Grin not tempted Pink, Shelb? I'd prefer that to a curry hot enough to give me diarrhoea!

Hep I've been eating figs this week! I'm 26 weeks though so might be a bit late!

Leonie you sound like you're doing amazingly with the hand expressing. Hope Theodore is off the ward soon.

My glucose tolerance test was positive so I have gestational diabetes Sad. I'm absolutely gutted. I really don't want to have to have tablets or insulin Sad hopefully I will be able to control it by diet.

leoniethelioness · 26/08/2016 22:36

Elle - it's the staff here! I have tried myself but I can't get it right and then I get tearful and frustrated. I've just decided to ask for help each time. One of the staff members is going to help me at about eleven and then I can take it over or pop it in the fridge ready and get some sleep. I'll have to set an alarm to do it again in the night.

leoniethelioness · 26/08/2016 22:37

I'm sorry to hear about your GD, Elle. What rotten luck. What changes do you need to make to your diet?

AudreyBradshaw · 26/08/2016 22:58

Good news on baby being returned leonie you've been so brave and strong! Flowers

potato a bit if distance will probably do you good, you need to recover and regain your strength. And you're keeping Arya safe and sound too. You can't bear the burden alone and your dm us in the right place.

bunch you're doing so well! And woop woop on little man getting his chunk on!

Sorry about your GD elle I'm sure you will be able to control it by diet.

I've never been offered anything to do with gestational diabetes. Should i have? I'm going to have to remember to ask midwife about whooping cough jab too next week!

Feefeefs · 26/08/2016 23:25

She just said it was almost impossible to get in and out of the bath without hurting your pelvis more and that positioning in the bath isn't good for it.

You sound like you're doing brilliantly leonie.

Sorry about the GD Elle that's shit. Will you get to see a dietitian? I can send you our 10g CHO snacks list if you want on Monday? Just don't bother buying any food labelled "diabetic" full or sorbitol and gives you bad diarrhoea and cramping please higher in kcal so worthless at the end of the day!

In Scotland they check your urine at each appointment Audrey and then do a random blood glucose sample around 30 weeks if anything abnormal you get screened. You also get screened if baby is measuring big. Might be different where you are tho

Feefeefs · 26/08/2016 23:26

Jesus so many typos! Full of sorbitol and plus not please higher in kcal

leoniethelioness · 27/08/2016 02:30

Just woken up. Feeling sore and haven't mastered the art of getting in and out ofor bed. Had to ask the midwives for more painkillers. Just had some tramadol. Hoping it helps me to sleep. Meant to be expressing at 3 am. No sign of baby yet. Feeling very tearful.

Hope you are all OK. xxx

Planeteer · 27/08/2016 02:57

Hang in there leonie you're doing so well! Keep talking to the midwives and don't feel bad about asking for extra relief. I'm on the insomnia graveyard shift and here for chats if you want virtual company. Flowers

shelbTa · 27/08/2016 03:10

'Morning'

Hang in there leonie - like planet says, don't feel bad about asking for pain relief, you've had a major operation after all. You're being really strong with it all.

Planet - misery loves company!

I'm sat in the nursery after going for a wee and having THE most painful BH. It felt like I was going to shit myself so ran to the toilet and nothing. Got lower back pain now, assuming as all have been false starts that this is curry the curry making its way through my system!!

X

Planeteer · 27/08/2016 03:14

Shelb I don't know whether to wish for the pain to bugger off for you or for it to ramp up!! Hope that even if the curry is the culprit that it's helping to kickstart things for you. It won't be long now!

My flat is doubling nicely as a sauna. Just doused myself in cold water and it practically sizzled (and didn't help cool me down). Urgh!

shelbTa · 27/08/2016 03:46

Ha, thanks planet, I feel a right twat coming on here night after night only for it to die down the next day.

Good luck with the heat. Luckily it's quite cool oop north tonight.

shelbTa · 27/08/2016 06:05

Well I'm still up, with really bad period and vag pain, paracetamol hasn't worked. Had a 'clear out', but could still be the madras....

BunchOfBobs · 27/08/2016 06:09

Oooh Shelb it could be it!!
Try get some sleep, failing that eat!!! Grin

PotatosMum · 27/08/2016 06:14

Leonie as others have said, you just had a major operation, take as much pain medication as you need, there are no awards for suffering in silence! Really hope baby is with you now x

Shelb lower back and poop pain sounds promising. So looking forward to you having your baby!

Ok, my baby wins the awesome baby sticker for today. It one week old she just slept through the night with only 2 feeds. I didn't think it was possible but I love her a little more this morning Wink

shelbTa · 27/08/2016 06:59

Well done Ayra!

Pain seems to be a load worse lying down and better sitting up.

ElleSarcasmo · 27/08/2016 07:31

Leonie they've just told me to consume sugary food (cake, biscuits, fruit juice etc) 'in moderation. I will see the nurse specialist next week and get a blood glucose monitor then depending on the results they will decide if I need meds or not. I have to speak to someone (can't remember who) every week to report the readings.

Audrey as Feefs said, they check your urine for sugar at every visit. Mine was positive at one of my visits. You've reminded me I need to book my whooping cough jab too!

Feefs the list of snacks would be fab as well. I'm not sure if I need to aim more for low glycemic index or glycemic load (or neither!). Feeling a bit clueless! They did say I'd see the dietician at some point which would be really helpful.

Hopefully it will be ok. I just keep thinking about increased risk of stillbirth and neonatal death and getting myself into a state Sad.

Leonie that sounds uncomfortable, having other people express for you! Worth it though. Has your pelvic pain gone now? I feel like I'm getting the beginnings of it-just groin pain so far, joy!

Hope this is it Shelb! Yay for curry.

Potato what a little star! Smile

leoniethelioness · 27/08/2016 08:22

Elle Yes, pretty much fine but I'm on painkillers so could mask it. Baby was breech and had bruises on his legs from how he had been wedged in the womb. I'm wondering if that contributed to my pain. I think he must have been breech for a while and it just wasn't picked up. Midwife who examined me on arrival said it wasn't easy to feel he was breech - but she did feel his foot when she examined me internally... 😲 I hope it doesn't get any worse for you.

Baby continuing on two hourly blood sugar tests. Last one was at 7. If that's was below 2.5 then he was having IV glucose again as well as colostrum and formula feeds. I've not been across since about 6.45 so I'm not sure what has happened yet. They are expecting me at nine for skin to skin.

I hand expressed 1 ml of colostrum all by myself. It took an hour. I cried afterwards because I managed it. I am not as quick as the midwives and breastfeeding support staff but this is the first thing I've done all by myself for him.

HepKestrel · 27/08/2016 08:23

Good luck shelb!
Sorry about gd Elle

Catching up on the conversation, don't know when I heard it, but they are not stretch marks, they are tiger stripes. I like that. Wear them with pride.

So after 3 attempts to get bloods last week, got a letter last week asking for another sample next week due to insufficient bloods and to check my iron.

I still have very colourful inner-elbows

leoniethelioness · 27/08/2016 08:25

Here is a photo of him earlier. I had to look at it to express. It helped. He is little and perfect.
