Why is it the receptionists at GPs surgery are like they are?

I have a long weekend in work and spoke to my manager and she was very understanding so I need a sick paper for a few shifts. I rang the surgery to see the GP as I'll need a paper until Tuesday and the receptionist just wasn't getting it and making me say it louder and louder. She said the GP will ring me Hmm

Number4OnTheWay · 26/08/2016 09:41

My mum already knows, I sent her a text that says 'how do you feel about having grandchild number 10 in april?' she messaged me back saying YES PLEASE!!! 😂
I have a bib to send my mil, it says I'm the reason grandma is broke! I'm just going to post it to her and see what happens! I haven't told her yet because shes much older (had dh very late in life) and says things like "but what if you've just skipped a period? How do you know?" Doesn't seem to understand the phenomenon of pregnancy tests! She also says "in my day we didn't have miscarriages, young people today jut aren't looking after themselves properly" Shock Angry so I try not to engage with her unless I have to.
Mumi that's so frustrating! Hopefully you manage to get hold of a sock note xx

does anyone feel a weird pain in their ovaries when they sneeze? Confused

I sneeze and then get a weird stabbing pain in my right ovary afterwards. please tell me other people get this too?!

jpeg28 · 26/08/2016 10:27

number4 that's exactly what my MIL days and she isn't even that old! She goes on and on about how in her day it would take months to realise you were pg as you could miss 2 periods and not realise.... REALLY!!!

Spotting seems to have stopped... I do feel very pg today, generally rough and like my stomach is filled with too much water!

skittles I have had quite a few stabby ovary pains but that's because I have something on mine! I'm sure it's completely nothing but you could always check with your GP if you're worried

LuchiMangsho · 26/08/2016 10:37

I do. But I have a cyst on my ovary. And my C section scar hurts sometimes. I am marginally less knackered today. The CM has taken Thurs/Friday off so it is me with DS at home for two days. I think he thinks Mummy is very ill because she is constantly too tired to move. I must do some thing vaguely constructive with him to make up.

ecofreckle · 26/08/2016 11:09

summer I don't think I'd know what a pain in the ovary felt like. I guess that makes me odd for a 40 year old and very divorced from my reproductive health. Sounds unpleasant though.

I saw the doc this morning after a nasty faint at the weekend following abdominal pain. He suggests if the pain comes back I need to hot foot to A and E because of ectopic risk. Which sounds worrying. But today I am abdominal pain free and migraine free so I am able to think about it more sanely and am putting the pains down to the general abdominal nonsense that seems to occur in early pregnancy.

Doc also said, for those of you headache and migraine sufferers, that paracetomol is fine if needed. And that there's a 2008 study that concludes taking sumatriptan (Immigran) in pregnancy has no effect on the baby. Having said that he did say to try and avoid if you can.

It's a bit cooler here today so hoping you have better days and better sleeps tonight.

SharkBastard · 26/08/2016 11:17

Yeah, my C-Section scar aches from time to time, but it always has, say if I walked particularly far one day, it would ache like mad.

I sometimes get pains in my ovaries, but not enough to make me concerned. May just be a muscle that I'm mistaking for my ovary. Early pregnancy really does cause many niggles and weird feelings :/

onecrazycook · 26/08/2016 12:21

I've been having quite a bit of cramping, like period pain. Today, none so far though

jobrum · 26/08/2016 12:22

I told my parents a couple of days before my dad's birthday last time. I handed over his present and gave them an envelope telling them it was an extra something they could both open early and inside they found my scan pictures. I'm quite tempted to pack a 'big sister' top for my mum to find when she looks after dd one day a week. I'm putting it off for as long as possible though, cant cope wity more criticism!

I had migraines all through my last pregnancy. Paracetamol is fine, as is cocodamol if that helps. I could take sumatriptan from the second trimester and my gp said that ibruprofen is also fine in the second tri but to try and limit the use. I've read lots of reassuring research which states that sumaptriptan is safe in the first three months too. When I got to about 20 weeks I had to take an antidepresant which stopped the migraines but the side effects were awful. Betablockers are also safe up to the third trimester. Acupuncture worked well for me too.

I get a lot of twinges and sharp pains that feel like uterus and overy area. I think they are ligaments stretching.

hummingbird100 · 26/08/2016 12:24

Morning everyone! Toddler elbowed my lower belly again today, it'll be ok right? Right? I'm not even 6 weeks yet but he's so rough and all elbows and knees! I also had a mc last time so am extra anxious Sad

Mummymulb16 · 26/08/2016 12:25

I getting the stabbing pains when I sneeze too. It's very scary! Oh the wonders of pregnancy! I can't wait to get to 12 weeks 3. More weeks to go feels like a lifetime away Hmm

jpeg28 · 26/08/2016 12:26

hummingbird I'm sure it will be fine. Maybe you need to tell him you have. A bruise or something so he is extra careful around your tummy.

All I've eaten today is a few almonds. I have no appetite at all... Anyone else feel like this??

jobrum · 26/08/2016 12:28

jpeg"my appetite is all over the place. My stomach is rumbing but I'm just not hungry.

jpeg28 · 26/08/2016 12:31

Glad I'm not the only one jobrum usually I would be happy to actually stop eating!! Think I may force some lunch down. Hope you're doing well.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 26/08/2016 12:50

hummingbird - my toddler is constantly elbowing me, clambering all over me and jumping on me! I think everything is well protected in there particularly at this early stage.

hummingbird100 · 26/08/2016 12:57

Thanks all Smile he's so wiggly and will be quietly sat next to me then suddenly heaves himself off the sofa and my poor boob and belly get a sharp elbowing!

I've just found out I have a job interview a week on Monday. Eeep! I've never had a pregnant interview before.

JennyOfOldstones · 26/08/2016 17:08

Had some bleeding today so went to EPU. All was fine and saw my 6 week bean and tiny heartbeat. Dr showed me where the bleeding was, well away from the baby. He also said half of pregnancies have some bleeding. Hope all you other ladies with bleeding are doing ok.

jpeg28 · 26/08/2016 17:12

jenny so happy for you and you have really put my mind at ease thanks so much!!

JennyOfOldstones · 26/08/2016 19:28

So glad it helps jpeg. He was very reassuring. Said some women have lots of bleeding and a healthy pregnancy and some can have no bleeding but still miscarry. What will be will be.

BertieBotts · 26/08/2016 20:28

Spotting seems to have eased off for me. Yes thank you Jenny, that is good to know. It's interesting to hear they can see where the bleeding is coming from!

I've been studying hard at my driving theory and I can pass the practice exams no problem now. Hope it's as easy on Monday!

Theknittinggorilla · 26/08/2016 20:40

Just checking in - on our holidays now, it's 36 degrees Shock and my toddler has decided he doesn't want to go to bed anymore. Midnight last night - had to get him back up for the first time in about a year! And currently sitting on the floor of the dcs room while he hopefully goes to sleep, missing the barbecue that is happening outside. And nausea well and truly kicked in yesterday. Sigh.

Lots been going on since I last looked at the thread, sending good thoughts to all of those with spotting and hoping you get some reassurance soon.

Hi to new people niks I remember you from the August bus, congratulations on the bfp!

BertieBotts · 26/08/2016 20:57

Yep it's been about 36 degrees here, not the most relaxing weather! It's still about 30 now and it's pitch black outside. DH has put the aircon on dehumidify.

MumiTravels · 26/08/2016 21:05

Good Luck Bertie.Vroom Vroom.

Anyone else er..a bit..dry..down there? Someone mentioned a but back about having excess but I'm feeling very..dry Blush. It's quite uncomfortable.

The GP I spoke to was a lot nicer than the receptionist and understood. Just got to hold out until Tuesday now.

We haven't told anyone yet until we see how my next appointment goes.

Is it okay to get a message early pregnancy? My back is as stiff as a board and full of knots. DH had a go but it was so bad he wasn't getting anywhere.

BertieBotts · 26/08/2016 21:15

I think massage is OK as long at you let the masseuse know. Same with reflexology because there's certain points they have to be careful not to hit or something.

I spoke to my grandad today because it's his 91st birthday and wanted to tell him but didn't! I want to see/hear a heartbeat before we let people know.

hummingbird100 · 26/08/2016 21:23

jenny that must have been so reassuring! I keep getting tempted to have a private scan before my 12 week one...I don't know if I can hold on that long!
