Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

OK... so need a rant!! My gran has just called me and let slip that my cousin is pregnant!!! My cousin is coming up on Thursday and I have a feeling that she is going to announce to my family etc!!! Thursday is my scan day and 12 week and MY DAY to announce!!!!! Actually taking me all my might not to cry!!! I know I may be sounding over rational but my hubby and I have went through so much for this bubba and someone else is going to burst my bubble 😢😢

Dreamingoutloud7 · 02/08/2016 16:40

Oh shell that's so annoying! I know it's hard when you've waited so long to be able to have this news to share but it could be kind of nice to have someone who's going through it with you? (I say this yet I would totally be having a strop and accusing her of stealing my thunder! (In my head obviously!))
Does your family know what you've gone through? My mum knew all the heartache it took to get that positive so she was as excited as we were. And no one could've stolen my thunder from her because of that.

ever I'm sorry, that's so frustrating. But it can be taken again, i know you'll prob hate hearing that but in the grand scheme of weddings and babies it's not that bad really.

mrschn · 02/08/2016 16:55

Evergreen sorry to hear. If it helps, I passed on the fourth attempt. \o/
The third test was a highlight when I nearly ran over an elderly lady on a zebra crossing I failed to stop at. I'm amazed they didn't ban me forever there and then!

I think you have more important things happening this week! Try not to beat yourself up about it.

AngrySparrow · 02/08/2016 17:02

Marking my place on the new thread :)

MarjorySunshineDust · 02/08/2016 17:31

Sorry about the test evergreen at least you can take it again. Not what you needed this week though!

shell can see why you would be a bit annoyed at that, maybe they won't announce though, do you know how far along they are? Agree it will be nice to have the babies close together.

I got some Next maternity jeans today, they are soooo comfy. Got them in my usual size and they are a little big around the waist but think I will be glad of that soon! The over the bump bit is mesh so not too hot in the warm weather.

Not sure if it's a coincidence but I walked around town with the buggy wearing them for a couple of hours and my pelvis/lower back is quite achey now. Wondering if my usual too tight jeans were holding everything in a bit better?! Anyone else had this yet?

ScottishSnowflake · 02/08/2016 17:31

Oh Shell, that's so frustrating. Just look forward to your scan on Thurs and please don't let this detract from that. The feeling when you see your little one on the screen will make it all worthwhile and everything else goes out your head whilst you look at the scan and little one playing up. Here's hoping your scan goes as well for you as it did for me Smile

Jojoclaire · 02/08/2016 18:57

Just bought my first baby magazine - baby london. There's an ad for seraphine in it with a 15% off code for online orders over £50 - BL15 - might just about make it affordable?! I'm tempted to try their stretchy pencil skirt for work, will report back on any successes!

Sienna9522 · 02/08/2016 19:22

I'll be 13 weeks when I have my scan. Too late for the nub theory? I'm soo inpatient!

ScottishSnowflake · 02/08/2016 19:28

Hi Sienna. My midwife said at 13+2 that I was too late, but that she could tell the sex of baby. Don't know whether yours will be able to do the same?

SBSparkles · 02/08/2016 19:47

Hello all! Bit behind! Congratulations on all the new scans!! Smile
Quick question - anyone getting restless legs at night?

MimiDiddy · 02/08/2016 20:19

Evergreen I failed my test 3 times and ran over a cat in the 4th test I passed on 😳, the instructor made me do a 3 point turn up the road and I could see some poor person scooping it up as I did the manoeuvre 😩. Fx for next time.

Mrs was the little old lady ok?

LuckyinOctober · 02/08/2016 20:20

Just on the telling the gender from 12 week scans, a work colleague told me today that when he and his wife had theirs, they were able to be told they were having a boy too. I was also really amazed that was possible! I want to know but didn't even ask at my 12 week scan.

Ever that's a super demanding week you've got lined up, even super woman would be anxious with that I think. I failed two driving tests before I passed one, so I'm going to second whoever said that makes you a better driver.

Also, I'm amazed how many people are already at the pram shopping and nursery contacting stage - maybe I'm falling behind the group, but thinking I'll wait for the third trimester to actually buy stuff. My next maternity jeans are very comfy too, Marjory, I have under the bump ones. I'm 14+1 and my app tells me some aches and pains are normal this week, not sure what stage you're at?

Sienna9522 · 02/08/2016 20:26

Hi Scottish. Wow that is amazing that they can tell that early. Are you having a little boy or girl? I'm going to ask but not holding out much hope that they will be able to or want to tell me.

Shellbell0403 · 02/08/2016 20:32

I hope so to scottish I am so nervous!!

wm3010 · 02/08/2016 20:46

evergreen sorry to hear that, you'll pass next time. Probably just too much going on just now to concentrate on it.

shell I get it. Dh's sister is due tWo weeks after me but told her parents pretty early in and they told everyone else. I waited until scan as I knew the ILs would tell the world so we had a few weeks of hearing about SIL and her pregnancy and I was all "what about me!" Especially as she was lucky enough to have no symptoms and I was feeling rubbish. Really frustrating!

gumbootsandjandals · 02/08/2016 21:04

evergreen I failed my driving test twice, aged 30.

Driving lessons used to stress me out so much I used to sweat like a pig...mostly on my bum cheeks. After a particular embarrassing episode where my instructor realised I had a wet bum when i got out of the car I decided to take a hand towel to sit on for further lessons. And I had many further lessons...

Passed with flying colours third attempt. Just as well as I needed a car for a new job to start a week later!

MimiDiddy · 02/08/2016 21:09

Lucky I've just read up nub theory (sounds a bit like hocus pocus to me) and my interpretation of my scan pic is that Little Diddy will be a boy. I'll wait until my 20 wk scan to pass judgement but I've always thought we'd have a boy as DH's family only seems to produce boys.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 02/08/2016 21:17

Oh god mimi that's traumatising!!

I can't believe they can sometimes tell the sex from the 12 weeks scan. Think I'm going to book a private one for 16 weeks, I'm so impatient!!

Jojoclaire · 02/08/2016 22:51

Wow, the nub theory is new on me!

I've had another look at the 3D scan from last week (13 weeks) and it looks to me to be horizontal! What do you guys think?

Due in February 2017....thread 5!
Jojoclaire · 02/08/2016 22:53

Or is that just the umbilical cord? I can see why it's not relied on as an exact science!

MarjorySunshineDust · 03/08/2016 07:26

lucky I'm just shy of 14 weeks now so that would make sense! I remember getting quite bad pelvic pain last time but not until much later.
Oh and no registering nursery places or buying stuff here yet, I kept everything from dd so won't need to get much anyway. I seem to remember we bought the pram etc quite late on.

Evergreen17 · 03/08/2016 09:03

Thanks everyone. Definitely a stressful week. Sky and gum I am 35 Confused
Scan finally tomorrow. Didnt sleep at all
Mimi your cat story made me smile Grin I know it is not funny but I am sleep deprived

Lacey congrats!!!! Gorgeous scan!

Shell it is not unreasonable to feel like this. You have been waiting for long to see baby on screen and announce. Can you hold the announcement a few days to get "your own thunder"?
Sorry hun

Evergreen17 · 03/08/2016 09:03

Any scans today?

Wonderlust123 · 03/08/2016 09:10

Hi all,

I'm a bit late to join. (It's taking a while to sink in that this is really happening!)

I had a scan at 8 weeks as I was bleeding, which showed that I'm due Feb 15. Next scan is this Friday, which I'm looking forward to (albeit with an irrational fear that the baby will have disappeared!).

It's taken a while for my partner to deal with the idea (it was very unplanned, and terrible timing), but he's now fully supportive.

Anyway, that's my situation.

Can anyone help with what all the abreviations you guys use actually mean, please?

Also, is anyone getting (sometimes quite strong) abdominal pain when they move too quickly? I had a little look through the book, and it seems that's something which normally happens a few weeks later.

I work in a school, but am employed through an agency. My contract only goes from September to June each year. I haven't signed my new contract yet. Does anyone know if I'd be obliged to tell them before signing, and if I do tell them, is it within their rights not to offer me the contract?

Finally (sorry for the essay!), I don't think either my partner or I will be eligible for maternity / paternity pay from work. (Although I'm finding working that out extremely complicated). He'd like to be a stay-at-home dad, and I'd be happy to go back to work. I'm trying to figure out what to tell my employer though. Am I being completely unrealistic in thinking I could return to work 6 weeks after baby arrives?

Thank you millions in advance!

SkyLucy · 03/08/2016 09:25

Welcome Wonderlust! Sounds like you've had a bit of a rocky journey so far - is this your first bubba? I had bleeding in my 5th week and was terrified - all absolutely fine though, I had no idea it was so common. Only two days until your scan - fx for you Smile

Which brings me to acronyms/abbreviations:
fx = fingers crossed
DC - darling child
DS - darling son
DD - darling daughter
DH - darling husband
DP - darling partner
SAHM - stay at home mum
BFP = big fat positive (pregnancy test)
pg = pregnant
AIBU = am I being unreasonable
LMP = last menstrual period
OH = other half
FWIW = for what it's worth

There are LOADS more - this list is useful: www.mumsnet.com/info/acronyms

I'm a first-timer too, but I'm sure there'll be loads of advice for you re weird pains/maternity leave etc - this group is so lovely!
