Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

I'm still to scared to buy things. I pick up baby grows and then put them back down... talk myself our of it by saying oh don't know what I'm having or what size it will be...

Your scan will be fab topmammy

Aww congrats phoebe

ScottishSnowflake · 14/08/2016 10:41

Yay Phoebe! Many congrats! I'm having a boy too (as per my 13 week scan) but we're having to wait until 20week to find out if the lady was correct. I was exactly the same, I thought I was disappointed about a boy, but as soon as she said all thoughts of having a girl went out my head and was replaced with all the wonderful things I could teach my son to do as he grows!

Holly1987 · 14/08/2016 10:54

Morning Smile

Has anyone started buying maternity clothes yet?? My jeans and skirts are starting to get a bit uncomfortable and just wondered where the place to buy the clothes would be.

topmammy · 14/08/2016 11:33

With my first I could only imagine having a boy for some reason and thought I wanted a boy over a girl. But then I was so happy to find out I was having a girl. This time I don't really mind. It'd be nice to have a boy to have one of each but I'd also love to have another girl. It'd be easier in some ways as I could re use so many clothes that I've kept. I always wanted a sister myself. But what will be will be! Smile I just want a healthy baby. My husband was born with a cleft lip and palette so we will be quite nervous about that until they can check for any signs of it on the 20w scan. DD didn't get it though so Fx for this one.

Holly There's loads of places to shop for maternity clothes. All the usual high street shops have maternity ranges or there's higher end brands too. Depends what kind of things you're after. I found that I could only buy online really as most shops where I live aren't big enough to stock maternity ranges in store. City shopping centres are probably different though.

ScottyAl · 14/08/2016 11:40

*topmammy^, it was my fault you ate all the mini eggs, sorry! I went to get a handful last night and someone had finished them. DP tried to blame the dog...must be a bloody hungry dog because it had eaten all my salt and vinegar crisps too Angry

Can I ask people's thoughts on eating shellfish? I went out for a meal last night and said I was going to have mussels to start but was greeted with lots of "ooh, I wouldn't if I were you" noises so I ended up with nothing as everything else was either raw fish, meat or offal Sad

PhoebeGeebee · 14/08/2016 11:48

Holly I'm in maternity jeans but everything else still fits ok. I might have to invest in some maternity tights as I gave myself awful tummy ache wearing normal ones the other day!

FriendlyGhost · 14/08/2016 11:58

I've moved over to maternity clothes as my stomach is massive. I went to jojo last Thursday and bought a couple of tops for £5 and some trousers for £10 in their sale. Worth a look. Other than Jojo and H&M most places do online only which is really annoying.
I can't wait to find out what I'm having. Still got 6 weeks to go. I did put my scan pic on ingender and every response said girl so I'm interested to see if they're right.
Is anyone else still feeling sick? I'm actually feeling more sick than I did a few weeks ago and I'm in the second trimester now.

LondonGirl83 · 14/08/2016 12:36

I feel sick occasionally still but not everyday

I haven't bought any maternity wear Holly but am in loose clothing.

Congrats pheobe on the boy! It's nice to have some boys to the thread. I'm having a girl.

Being on the beach the last couple of days has brought up my lines nigra! Does anyone else have theirs yet?

LondonGirl83 · 14/08/2016 13:12

*linea not lines (stupid autocorrect)

Evergreen17 · 14/08/2016 13:30

Congrats phoebe!!! I dont know why but I have the feeling I will have a boy too Hmm

topmammy · 14/08/2016 13:32

I didn't get a linea nigra at all last time but I'm really very fair skinned and I read it's less common for my skin type.

I've been feeling a bit dizzy today. Didn't get any dizzyness till 30 odd weeks last time though so this is interesting...! Hmm

Evergreen17 · 14/08/2016 13:33

Scotti i am eating shellfish as long as it it cooked and served hot.

It is so tricky!

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 14/08/2016 15:09

I'm also very pale and don't get a linea nigra. My belly button doesn't pop out either, just goes completely flat by the end lol.

We aren't finding out babies sex and I've had no incling either way until the past few days where I can't help feel baby is a girl x

MimiDiddy · 14/08/2016 15:12

Scotty I've had cooked prawns but would personally be wary of eating mussels but that's mainly because I had some on holiday in Cornwall a few years and barffed the lot up a few hours later Confused

divadee · 14/08/2016 15:18

After my horrible dream last night having a very emotional day today. I have my cervical length scan on Tuesday and really worried that it will all go wrong. I have had 2 lettz operations and just wish Tuesday would hurry up.

LuckyinOctober · 14/08/2016 18:10

Good luck for Tuesday Diva.

Scotty I'm the same as evergreen and eating shellfish as long as they're good quality, cooked and served hot. I had thought mussels might be dubious given reading recently about a scare regarding a batch with high mercury content but they're not in the NHS banned list and "What to expect when you're expecting" specifically includes them in the healthy protein you're encouraged to eat regularly list, so I've had them once or twice in restaurants. "What to Expect" also says that it's the regular consumption of fish/shellfish high in mercury that's the risk, and one- or two-off type consumption isn't something to stress over. I suppose though like anything else we all need to do our own research and make our own choices about risks based on that.

I also don't have a linea nigra yet London, I'm 15+6 today so might still develop one but I'm another pale skinned person so maybe due to that I won't.

I think I may have felt some wriggles from my baby earlier when I had to walk fast to get to a show in time, is anyone else feeling movements yet?

Dreamingoutloud7 · 14/08/2016 18:19

scotty I'm eating cooked shellfish, had mussels while I was a way a few times, haven't seen anything to convince me not to, my book, app and mw said its safe.

Readyfortwo · 14/08/2016 19:41

I made a new thread....hope it works!

ScottyAl · 14/08/2016 19:51

Mimi, prawns are the one thing I've gone right off whilst pregnant. I've never been sick with any shellfish though and think I've got a pretty hardy stomach in general.

Dammit, Ever, lucky and dreaming, I knew I should have ignored them all and had my mussels! Was left instead with a solitary bread roll Sad I didn't even enjoy my steak as it was cooked slightly pink despite asking for it well-done (normally I have it mooing so wasn't really happy about ordering well-done) and so spent the whole time I was eating just worrying.

I don't have a linea negra yet either (15+2) but my tummy region does seem to have exploded somewhat this week. Was hoping it might wait until tomorrow. First day back after the school summer and dreading telling work as it is, might not need to now with the size of me! Haven't bought anything maternity yet as I'm not really sure how it works. Do I buy my regular size? If I buy now will I still be able to wear much later on in pregnancy? It's another minefield! I live rurally so any shopping will be done online and I HATE online shopping. Gah!

Good luck for Tuesday, diva. I had some horrific dreams before my last (albeit routine) scan so I know a little about how anxious you'll be feeling. Flowers
