Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

Good bump pics!

Just had a first look at nursery costs, £66 a day in St Albans (we're moving soon) - that sounds a lot!

Still not worked out how many days we'll need one but its definitely a big chunk of cash. So much for encouraging mothers back to work...

SpinALittleFaster · 30/07/2016 22:50

ready wow that's a lot. We don't get nappies (would only add about £1 per day anyway) but we do get 3 meals plus snacks.
I read somewhere that on average you need £40k coming in just to break even with 2 kids in full time childcare once you factor in commuting and lunch costs.

Jojoclaire · 30/07/2016 23:03

Nice bumps!

I'm interested to know if you have any recommendations on maternity clothes either in store or online, had a look in jojo maman Bebe yesterday and all fine if you're into only wearing denim skirts Hmm but I'll need some decent work skirts/dresses soon I'm sure.

Jojoclaire · 30/07/2016 23:04

Oops, buffering for ages then two posts appeared!! (Crap wifi...)

2ManySweets · 31/07/2016 06:30

Hello Jojo, Isabella Oliver has a cracking sale on at the moment but if you're looking for cheaper alternatives I bought a few dresses from Purpless. IMHO the black scoop neck dress with a "twist" effect was better value than the Seraphine one I got which got a massive rip in it when I caught it on a rogue table splinter!

Dutchy88 · 31/07/2016 06:41

Anyone else already having to get up to pee several times a night? I swear this didn't happen until much later with ds!!

Dreamingoutloud7 · 31/07/2016 06:56

dutchy yeah it's really making me tired, but I had a lot of stretching type aches last night so I think I might be getting a bit cramped for space in there!

Off shopping for maternity clothes today, going to pop to Westfield white city and see what they have. Does anyone know if their h&m have a maternity section?
Even if it's a wasted journey for clothes I desperately need some new bras!!

divadee · 31/07/2016 08:05

Morning mummies to be.

duchy I am up at least 3 times in the night peeing. So draining. I don't remember it like this last time either!! And the nausea?!?! When does that ever end. Now 13+6 and it's still going strong!!

Still on the wait for my harmony results. Hopefully tomorrow of Tuesday.

Carly6971 · 31/07/2016 08:10

dutchy I have been peeping every hour on the hour right from the start through the night!! Driving me crazy!! I have recently noticed I am now going more in the day too!! Must have a very weak bladder lol!!

cinderella I am having an icandy peach3 I think. Defo an icandy. I have lots of time to dream about Prams with this being an ivf baby. I know it will be a waste of money in reality as I drive and will switch to a buggy for ease as soon as bubs is 6months(ish). Have seen all my friends and then my SIL do the exact same thing, big posh Prams and then swap to buggies at earliest convenience. However I have waited long enough so everyone in my family and dh are just like 'have what you want' so an icandy, next and baby baker are my weak spots lol!! I am worried about how heavy they are though when lifting them back in the car all muddy from dog walking!

Evergreen17 · 31/07/2016 08:12

Dutchy yes about the peeing and also I might add I blew my nose and it hurt down there. Same happened when I sneezed one.
Feeling pretty confident we will be seeing our bean on Thursday because someone must be playing with my body!

FlipperSkipper · 31/07/2016 08:21

Thanks 2Many, Purpless look to have some good value basics. I quite like the maternity hoodies they do! I'm a way off needing anything yet, but I'm worried about finding short leg length trousers and jeans when I do. Any suggestions?!

MimiDiddy · 31/07/2016 08:36

Dreaming if you use use H&M store locator and click on the text that says ladies a little drop down list appears of the lines available in store, such as Mama. It's not very intuitive and I only discovered it after I dragged a grumpy DH to the Regent St branch on a hot sunny day when I could have just gone to a more local branch 🙁

lawyeredout82 · 31/07/2016 08:54

Cinderella and Carly - we have an icandy peach 3 which we love. DD has always been happy in it and we love it. It converts to a double as well so we just need to pick up the adaptors this time (just make sure you buy the smaller "twin" carrycot if you're thinking you might have two children in the buggy otherwise you have to shell out again).

Jojo - DD goes to nursery just outside st Albans and its £1030 PCM. Xx

Readyfortwo · 31/07/2016 08:55

You could try Asos Flipper as they do different leg lengths.

TheresaMarie55 · 31/07/2016 08:58

New thread again! We're a chatty bunch haha! Hubby has the day off work tomorrow and we're taking the kids swimming, I can't wait as I can just float around which will feel lovely as my backs been sore lately. My bump is really coming on. Love seeing everyone else bumps to Smile . I'm a sahm now so don't have the headache of maternity pay this time around but sounds like some of you have fantastic policies! The night time peeing, ugh, I don't actually pee much in the day but am.up loads in the night, very annoying.

Readyfortwo · 31/07/2016 09:02

I get ur point Radders, DH and I both earn what we consider to be good salaries - our nursery bill for 2 will be £2600 p/mth, then we have a mortgage plus bills to pay....we'll manage but def won't be able to afford holidays/Home improvements etc and will have to be very careful with everything else.

TheresaMarie55 · 31/07/2016 09:06

Our pram is being delivered Tuesday, super.early I know but we got.a massive saving and didn't want to miss it. We've gone for the cosatto giggle 2 travel system in firebird, I love it so much! I already have a red joie myrus stroller so will be keeping that as a spare. I just hope the buggy board fits the new pram. Youngest will be 2 years 3-4 months when baby is born so didn't want a double this time around as with the girls (just less than 2 year gap) it was a godsend for the first 6 months but then never used. Didn't want a double for 2-3 months as dd is a good walker anyway. I don't drive though so the buggy board is needed really. I'll have a.sling but that's not an option when its pouring down! X

radderss · 31/07/2016 09:17

Prams are a minefield aren't they. I haven't even started to look at that yet. After 12 week scan I'm going to start buying things.

Don't they say you shouldn't have the pram in the house before baby born ... Old wives tale! I hadn't a clue - someone said it to me.

PhoebeGeebee · 31/07/2016 09:23

I bit the bullet and went maternity clothes shopping yesterday. Jesus these are comfy! H&M but be warned their sizes come up VERY small - these are a size 20!

Re: nurseries - any other first time mums, I recommend enquiring as soon as you've got your 12 week scan out of the way. I sent an email to the nursery round the corner the other day (I'm 14+3) explaining I knew I was way early, turns out they're fully booked til Sept 2017 with only a few places opening up after that!

On the subject of mat leave, I'm planning on doing 9 months, then DH will do three - taking us to a full year off. I know I'll only get stat for 39 weeks, but will DH get anything for his three months???

Due in February 2017....thread 5!
Mysterycat23 · 31/07/2016 09:27

Thanks for replies Spin Ready JoJo and Lawyered. Oh £_&#! Can't even think of a swear word that applies. Sounds like if I'm lucky I could bring in £50 a week which hardly seems worth it for full time hours. I will start enquiring with local places, must admit I am terrified of ringing though (any other first timers feeling terrified by everything baby related?!) If I can't bring in any decent money we're going to need a miracle. I will have to sit down with Excel and work out how the heck to make ends meet. Innocently I thought "people have babies all the time and go back to work, childcare must be affordable" Confused at least I'm aware of it now rather than getting a nasty surprise later and have a chance to plan..

Dutchy I've been up at least once in the night to pee for last 2 months, read it was because kidneys are working extra hard to process all the extra blood and metabolic processes going on. Suppose it's good practise for not getting full night's sleep once baby comes!

Maternity clothes - New Look have a sale on including maternity. Mimi store finder is so handy! New Look one does this too and found a store about 30 mins drive.. Got 3 work dresses in the sale (one for 6 quid!) I can start wearing straight away so feeling very fancy!

Flipper try Next they do different leg lengths too.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 31/07/2016 09:33

Thanks mimi that's really useful, Westfield doesn't carry the mama range Sad ugh really didn't wanna have to go into the city today!

ButtonTum · 31/07/2016 09:35

Found you!

Ceecee I'm the same. My mat package is pretty good -20 weeks full pay, 19 weeks 50% pay then the rest SMP. I have to pay 50% of enhanced payments back if I leave within a year though.

Shellbell0403 · 31/07/2016 09:40

evergreen i don't have these pains when sneeze etc... should I be worried?!

Sorry for tmi but this constipation is doing my head in!!!

Shellbell0403 · 31/07/2016 09:43

mysterious yes I'm terrified anything baby related! To scared to buy mat clothes and everything! Scan on Thurs though so hoping that passes...

button i thought they changed that, so you could leave if wanted to and not have to pay anything back?

ButtonTum · 31/07/2016 09:58

Shell my company's family policy was only updated c6 months ago so I don't think it's the case that I'll be let off paying it back. Luckily I'm planning on going back after the year anyway (if only to secure the good package again for baby #2). Ha!
