Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

Afternoon all!

Hope everyone's ok today Smile.

Is anyone else nervous for your 16wk appointment? I know that's a silly sounding question but I know that at some appointments the midwife tries to find the baby's heartbeat. I was fine with this - I know it can be difficult as it's still so small - but a lady in my work who is also pregnant has just had a nightmare of an appointment as the midwife couldn't initially find anything and got her really upset - understandably.

Now I'm a bit nervous for mine in a couple of weeks. I'd love to hear the heartbeat, but am scared they won't find it in the first place.... !

ButtonTum · 10/08/2016 12:50

Shell for lunch on Friday I have a subway, a McDonald's cheeseburger and a pret sandwich Grin

ButtonTum · 10/08/2016 12:50

*had!

Shellbell0403 · 10/08/2016 12:52

cinderella yes subway as in Sandwich shop. I really wanted one today but talked myself out of it..

kiki yes I'm abit scared about mine.. don't know if they do that here or not.. I'm trying to stay calm and not worry about things again bit starting to worry again...

Shellbell0403 · 10/08/2016 12:53

button what did you get?

CinderellaFant · 10/08/2016 13:18

I had one this morning after my appointment haha. Went for the breakfast melt, it was gorgeous. I didn't have time to eat before the appointment and was so hungry. I also got a cookie Grin

Shellbell0403 · 10/08/2016 13:28

I really really want an Italian bmt but have read not supposed to eat them 😔

CinderellaFant · 10/08/2016 14:08

Why not shell? That's what I normally get- pretty sure I ate loads of them last pregnancy Blush

Shellbell0403 · 10/08/2016 14:28

They said because of the listeria or something? I was actually in the shop and walked back out again... booo

Is anyone feeling OK about their pregnancy now? Or anyone abit nervous etc?

I have kinda pains in my lower tummy etc, like pulling, uncomfortable pains...

Dreamingoutloud7 · 10/08/2016 14:41

Very please to report that second attempt at blood test went smoothly, in and out in two minutes as it should be.
Means that yesterday they were actually just incapable people, as I have lovely veins Grin

shell I go through phases, most the time I'm calm about everything but then I'll get a wierd pain and convince myself it's something bad and panic for a while but then I tend to calm down again.

LondonGirl83 · 10/08/2016 15:30

Shell think I'm okay but that's probably because my scan was just 48 hours ago. I'm sure the nerves will come back. I'm looking forward to feeling movement :)

For some reason I still don't want to tell people though. It feels really personal. We told DH's parents last night which was fun but some how after keeping it a secret for so long it feels weird. This morning they sent us a text saying good morning 'mum and dad'. This baby is the first on both sides of the family so the excitement is palpable. My DH is one of 3 boys so the fact that its a girl was the cherry on top for his parents.

topmammy · 10/08/2016 16:35

Subway sandwiches have been one of the few things keeping my nausea at bay! MW did tell me I shouldn't eat prepacked sandwiches from the chiller cabinets though.

kikis I don't know if it's the same in every area but where I am they don't listen for baby's heartbeat anymore at the 16w appointment. But might do if you really wanted to.

Pretty lucky here with the maternity hospital. All wards are private ensuite rooms with fold down bed for partners to stay. Reminded me a bit of a premier Inn room, except with a rather uncomfy labour bed I slept on for 5 nights as we had to stay in as my LO had jaundice.

topmammy · 10/08/2016 16:45

When I said slept in my last post there I actually meant "slept", ha! Grin

shell the pulling sensations could be ligaments stretching? I remember getting that last time but not much this time second time round, I guess I'm all stretched already in there.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/08/2016 16:50

I eat chilled sandwiches quite often and have subway once a week lol. I get something different every time at subway and haven't thought twice about it. Subway is my fave!

LondonGirl83 · 10/08/2016 17:16

Shell if you get your sandwich toasted it might be okay. I think the reason we can't have cured meat is because it hasn't been 'cooked'. I love cured meat so I've been heating it up in a pan before wolfing it down...

SBSparkles · 10/08/2016 17:47

Is 6pm too early to go to bed?? Had about 8 hours last night and I honestly feel like I've had 1. Ahhh when is this tiredness going to end?? Anyone else still getting it?

Wonderlust123 · 10/08/2016 17:57

I thought I'd got past the tiredness. I'm better during the day, but going to bed super early in the evening.

Ubercorn · 10/08/2016 17:58

Tried to book my 16w MW appointment today and apparently the MW for my GP surgery only sees people at 2.30 on a Wednesday. Her 2pm appointments are only for booking-ins. I said that's no good, could I please have 2pm just this once if she hasn't got a booking in arranged because it's a double appointment I won't be away in time to pick DS1 and DD up from school.

"No."

MW was at the clinic with no patient in the room so asked receptionist if she could ask her or if I could come at 3.15 instead.

"No."

Then I asked if I can have a repeat prescription for my hyperemesis medication, my box of pills runs out on Sunday.

"Your notes say the doctor wasn't willing to prescribe them because it's just morning sickness"
Me: "That was before the hospital saw me, I was dehydrated and losing weight and they thought the sickness was contributing to the bleeding I'd had"
"I don't think the doctor will prescribe them when she's already said no..."

Lost my temper a bit then and snapped that if that is the case then the doctor needs to take it up with the hospital, either way I will be back on Friday to collect my prescription and will not be leaving without it.

Then came home and cried like a wuss Sad

Have rang the head community MW though and I can see her at the other local surgery even though I'm not registered with that surgery so that's something at least. I had her all through in my last pregnancy and she did my post natal home visits for all three so I'm glad.

Shellbell0403 · 10/08/2016 18:06

uber how rude!! Another receptionist who thinks she better and more qualified 😠😠 Glad ur getting to see the other midwife though!!

Sparkles I'm exhausted also, just having a bath then going to have some soup and go to bed and watch a film then sleep! Didn't sleep very well last night again.

London hope so! I just freeze then chicken out and walk out the shop when in lol..

LondonGirl83 · 10/08/2016 18:09

Sorry Uber. Some people in health care have no common sense or compassion. The problem is the NHS is so understaffed they can't fire the bad ones. Glad you'll get to see someone else outside your surgery.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 10/08/2016 18:31

Ah uber not a great experience then?

I think the subway thing stems from the fact that the food is sitting out and whilst it's warmed through sometimes, it's never reheated to a high temperature so bacteria can be an issue.
MW warned about buffet food for that reason, didn't stop me demolishing it at a birthday party last weekend though Blush

Carly6971 · 10/08/2016 19:01

Hey ladies hope everyone is well!

I love subway and have eaten lots of them without worrying...and after our history with losses/ivf I think that sums up how minute the risk is. I have also had two mr whippys! Yum!

I had my first consultant appt yesterday at 14+6 and she was able to find babies heart beat very quickly. I was a bit worried as I am a larger lady and thought she would never find it but she reassured that if she couldn't she would send me straight through to next door for a scan. Don't have to see her now until 34 weeks :)

So I then came home and had a huge mamas and papas and mother are splurge!! I am hoping maybe seeing some baby stuff in my house will help me begin to accept it's finally my turn to be a mummy x

LaceyLee · 10/08/2016 19:06

Ugh uber I really hate doctors surgeries who are like that! Who only has one time slot all week?!!

Has anyone got their screening risks through yet? Mine is 1 in 204 for Downs and I'm really worried. With my dd it was 1 in 18000 I think so massively higher even though only about a 0.5% chance. Does anyone know what causes these higher risks? Going to speak to the screening midwife tomorrow and look in to harmony testing I think.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/08/2016 19:18

I've not heard back yet laceylee, I think I will find out at my midwife appointment which is a week today, they do say no news is good news so I'm taking that for now. Could you possibly phone the midwife or your hospital and ask them about the results? X

LaceyLee · 10/08/2016 20:07

Yes keeping I will call tomorrow. Just feeling quite stressed this evening and googling everything!! Hope yours turns out low risk.
