marjory mine was bmi also.. will call the midwife tomorrow.

evergreen think it's OK to sleep on any side up until 5 months then they say left side..

uber i will try that just now ❤ thanks

LondonGirl83 · 09/08/2016 21:41

Wow, you ladies are braver than me. I will 100% be getting pain relief. I actually think I have a pretty high pain threshold but once it was time to bear down I know I'd start to panic I was tearing and would become paralysed with fear.

Ubercorn · 09/08/2016 21:45

I'll be having a spinal followed by a daily pick-a-mix from the drugs trolley Grin

Postnatal MW last time: "would you like some drugs?"
Me: "oooh, yes please!"
MW: "oramorph?"
Me: "all the morphs, thanks"

Mysterycat23 · 09/08/2016 21:53

shell I've my own duvet and wrap it around to go between legs and against tummy. (Me and DH have a double duvet each, no more arguments about him stealing the covers!) Think I've been sleeping on right side but will try left tonight to see if it can stop the blimmin heartburn!!

topmammy · 09/08/2016 22:36

I listened to the natal hypnotherapy cd too. It helped up until I was about 4/5cm then I panicked a bit! I will probably listen to it again though and try my best to remain calmer for longer. I had one shot of pethidine and then gas and air. Loved the tens machine! It didn't really do much in terms of pain relief later on but it helped me to have a little routine of pushing the boost button every contraction.

LondonGirl I was scared of tearing too but when it came to it I found the pushing stage the best bit as it was nearly the end!Smile

FriendlyGhost · 09/08/2016 23:01

Congratulations on all the good scan news!
When I went into last pregnancy I was very much of the opinion I could do a hypno birthing thing and just sneeze the baby out by deep breathing. When it came to it I was asked repeatedly if I wanted an epidural and refused until according to DH I suddenly turned and screamed 'get me a f***g epidural NOW'. I plan to have a c-section but if I was going for natural I'd want all the drugs this time.
I did have a tens machine. I didn't find it did much except distract me. It was funny when I accidentally set it off while DH was trying to adjust the pads though. Sent him a couple of feet in the air Grin

LondonGirl83 · 10/08/2016 01:23

Interesting Topmammy

Still, I think I'll get the epidural. I have friends that have done it both ways (no pain relief by accident not by choice) and they recommend pain relief. I'm not one that sees valour in suffering. There'd be no sense of accomplishment for me so there's no point.

If the baby is large (very large babies run in my husbands family) I will opt for a c-section so I am mentally preparing for that possibility. My mother in law went through hell dealing with her post birth complications so I'm not taking any chances. My consultant specialises in large babies so I feel I'm in good hands.

radderss · 10/08/2016 07:26

Scan day for me today!

After some advice and help please ...

Since yesterday I've had really bad pain in my oesophagus and chest. It's worse if I burp or hiccup say and when I eat too. Is this bad heartburn?? What can I take for it?
I've woken up this morning and it's still there but not as bad but I'm eating my breakfast and I can feel it coming back up the oesophagus.

SBSparkles · 10/08/2016 07:32

I think the delivery is a very personal thing and I have been advised not to listen to bad stories or feel afraid of pain. I was always terrified of giving birth to a point where it almost put me off having a baby at all but I'm sort of looking forward to it now. I am absolutely not saying I'll definitely do anything and if the pain get too intense I'll do drugs! I might even do them straight away. I think each birth is different and varies in pain/what goes on. I'll just go with it I think! Saying that I'd love a water birth! Not sure if you can always have them though!
Tried to sleep with a pregnancy pillow last night 'for a laugh' I just can't get on with it! Woke up with a massive crick in my neck and had to chuck it on the floor!! Grin

twocatsandatoddler · 10/08/2016 07:39

I think I'll end up with an epidural too, as I hated gas & air - it made me feel drunk and I hate feeling sick and out of control, but I can't imagine getting through labour with no pain relief. I got on quite well with the TENS in early labour though so I'll stick with that as long as I can. Last time it took me 36 hours from my waters breaking and painful contractions starting to get to active labour, and I was exhausted already so they offered me an epidural at that point so I could get some rest as they suspected I was in for a long ride (12 hours later things hadn't progressed and DS was distressed so I ended up with a c-section). Epidural was amazing - but I've heard it does slow labour down so I don't want to get one too soon this time.

SBSparkles · 10/08/2016 07:42

Wow two cats 36 hours!! You deserve a medal!! Yeah I'll be reaching for the drugs if that happened! Lol! Did anyone see the video of that woman having her baby in the foyer of a hospital? It literally fell out and she caught it with one hand! That's the birth I'm hoping for! Grin

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/08/2016 07:52

I'll be teyi g for a water birth again this time. Had a very long labour with my first, was at home a good 12 hours and then in hospital from 8am at 4cm and gave birth at 11.59pm. I had her on the bed and used gas and air. She came out sideways ( facing my thigh) which was not nice! My second was much easier, I started with pains around 6am, went into hospital at 10am and was 5cm (they didn't believe me until they checked) I them got in the pool around 1pm and gave birth at 2.26pm! Had no pain relief but used hypnobirthing techniques. Was an amazing experience, would have been more amazing if she to didn't come out sideways Hmm haha! My waters have never actually gone, slowly leaked all the way through labour with my first and came out on babies head like a shower cap with my second. I'm very quiet in labour, like to be in my own zone so dont talk much and keep quiet x

SpinALittleFaster · 10/08/2016 08:25

I'm not going near an epidural/spinal without a section. They lower your blood pressure and I almost passed out during my elcs last time, the anaesthetist had to pump me full of drugs to raise my blood pressure.

radderss good luck today :). Sounds like acid reflux which can be nasty. I use gaviscon tablets and they work pretty quickly.

LaceyLee · 10/08/2016 08:27

Morning all and good luck with the scans today.
Last time I had a really long labour (started Friday afternoon and delivered on the Monday) but just gas and air and paracetamol. I didn't want an epidural as I was worried about the risks (even though they are apparently very small). I didn't see it as an achievement though, it was just what happened. Friends that had epidural as loved them. I also did hypno birthing and would recommend it and pregnancy yoga as the breathing does really help even though it's still mega painful!! I am hoping for a home birth this time, anyone else?
14+3 and looking big!

LondonGirl83 · 10/08/2016 09:17

I should add I have friends who have had wonderful home birth and water birth experiences. I'm just not that girl 😀. Most people's births are easy and uncomplicated, just not in my family. My husband was the biggest baby ever born in his hospital at the time...

I asked my husband if he was having a baby if he'd use pain relief and he didn't even understand the question! It makes me laugh how similar we are sometimes.

divadee · 10/08/2016 09:32

Morning lovely ladies.

I am hoping for a home birth. Have to wait and see if my cervix plays ball and wether I need a stitch or not but if it all goes well I will be hoping to give birth. I just can't do the post labour ward. They are so grim down here.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/08/2016 09:47

Laceylee, I'd love a home birth but as daft as thus may sound to some.I don't want all that mess I'm my house. Let's be honest gibing birth is messy business lol. I know they put plastic down and all the other stuff but its not for me. My friend had one a few months back and on the way to the shower dripped blood all over the carpets. I know it can be prevented but I just don't want to have to think of it all. Both of my babies have been on the larger side to, first 10 days early and 9lb2oz so on the 98th centile and second was 9lb3.5oz born at 40+5 so on the 90th centile I think. Although my first was slightly smaller she's was.on the 98th coz she was early. X

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/08/2016 09:52

Divadee, that's awful that it puts you off with the post labour wards! With my first I was in a room with three others and hated it but only coz there was a very obnoxious woman in there, the others where lovely. With my second I was put in a room on my own and dh was allowed to sleep there that night. Wasn't needed in the end as I went home at 10pm as I wanted to pick my eldest up but if I get the chance again this time I will definitly stay one night just for a little rest x

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/08/2016 09:54

Worded that wrong, mean its awful they're grim. Not good at all!

Ubercorn · 10/08/2016 10:13

I'm booked at one hospital but I may change to my nearest hospital for delivery. I'm going to ring them in a few weeks to arrange to have a look around then I'll decide. I didn't book there because I couldn't have my scans there but tempted to have my section there - private ensuite rooms and DH can stay overnight. I'm usually against partners staying overnight when it's on a shared ward but I don't mind when it's private rooms. He'd only be able to stay the first night because he'd have to be home with the other DC after that but it would be nice to have that first night together, especially as I'll be still in bed. And it's literally five minutes from my house so he can drop the two oldest at school, come visit me with current youngest, go home and pick oldest two up, sort tea, and pop up with them for an hour or so afterwards.

I'm planning to stay for three days! I had a normal delivery with first so was home quickly. I stayed two nights with DC2, an emergency section. And two nights with DC3, a planned section, but I had really bad bruising. He was stuck and they had to shove him (and me) about quite a bit, I also had a lot of internal tidying up work done on my previous scar. The MW asked me to stay an extra night and I said no but I sort of wished I had. Day three is when the full effects of the theatre drugs wear off for me (drugs are really slow to leave my system), it's the point where my body feels like it's been steamrollered and it's when my milk comes in. Out of the whole recovery, day 3 is the worst day. DH would make sure I rest at home, he's good like that, but I think I'd rather stay at the hospital for it with the electric bed to make getting up/down easier and the peace and quiet.

radderss · 10/08/2016 11:23

Thank you spin much appreciated xx

LaceyLee · 10/08/2016 11:26

Keeping yes I agree that the mess is a bit of an issue! But i don't have many carpets so that may help! It's scary to be thinking about birth already though!

Sunshineface123 · 10/08/2016 11:51

Sounds good scotty and sparkles I'd like to finish at xmas too but think realistically I'll have to go a couple of weeks in Jan, hopefully on 'light duties' ha!

Shellbell0403 · 10/08/2016 12:15

Has anyone had a subway??

CinderellaFant · 10/08/2016 12:23

A subway as in the sandwich place??

I'm just back from seeing the consultant, got another sneaky wee scan and baby's doing great. Wiggling around and a good strong heartbeat. Measuring at 15+1. As this will be my third section they have offered me to be sterilised while they are doing the section. Not sure how to feel , realistically this probably will be last baby, DH and I have both agreed but sterilisation seems so final! Confused
