Can we talk bumps please?!

I'm 8 weeks and I already feel like I can't fit in my clothes. I'm guessing it's bloat more than anything but has anyone else noticed they're struggling this early on? When do proper bumps form?
I just look really podgy rather than pregnant!

jpclarke · 15/07/2016 18:21

I am your twin raidersmrs, I feel huge and I am only 7 weeks and struggling to conceal it. Proper bumps in my experience are around 18-20 weeks.

I am completely exhausted but a little relieved that symptoms have finally hit. Prob not helped by the fact the dc both have head colds and ds was very unsettled last night as well as a lot of noise outside that kept me awake.

PhoebeGeebee · 15/07/2016 18:38

Congrats on the scan its - such a relief isn't it?

Dreamingoutloud7 · 15/07/2016 18:59

So I think I'm going to have to spill tomorrow to my boss, she's slagging me off to co workers for eating throughout the day, and since I've left today has asked one of them to bag up my snacks and put them in my locker!!

gumbootsandjandals · 15/07/2016 19:30

I have been off work for 4 weeks with nausea but want to try and go back next week. For 4 weeks I have been largely housebound apart from taking kids to/from childminder and school.

I decided to have a practice at reintegrating myself into society today by going to Waitrose. At 11am. Possibly the busiest time to go.

I trawled the aisles looking for anything that looked remotely tasty to eat. Filled my basket with a lot if random crap.

Got to the checkout, put my items on the belt, and the man in front decided he'd picked the wrong baguette. Mon dieu! He was in no hurry to go back and swap it. In the meantime I started sweating and shaking and thought I'd pass out on his damn apples (that would teach him!).

Eventually I bought my items and swiftly went home. Where I inhaled, INHALED I TELL YOU (and without shame):
1 iced finger bun
1 iced Boston bun
1 mini trifle
1 special edition Muller corner (Golden balls)

It's the most I've managed to eat for a long time. And it tasted GOOOOOOOOD.

Anyway, as it's Friday, husband went down to Waitrose to get something easy for dinner. I asked for a trifle (I fessed up to the iced buns but not the earlier trifle btw). He's come back with pizza and a huge trifle.

I may or may not be back for further confessions later Grin

LuckyinOctober · 15/07/2016 19:33

Dreaming hope telling your boss makes her more sympathetic. I told mine today so I can go for my 12 week scan next week without taking annual leave, and luckily she was very warm and supportive - I thought she would be, but I feel much better now she knows. For those of you who've been for 12 week scans, how long do they take? Just wondering how late into work I might be.

LuckyinOctober · 15/07/2016 19:37

gumboots sounds very satisfying! I've not been as poorly as you with nausea but have been relieved to trade nausea, mutliple food aversions, funny taste in mouth and loss of appetite for increased appetite and cravings this week - hoping this bodes well for a hungry second trimester around the corner for us!

Readyfortwo · 15/07/2016 19:46

I think it depends if ur having the Nuchal tests lucky. The scan is just 15-20mins but then you may have to wait to see a mw for the blood test straight after so is anticipate at least an hour at the hospital.

Dreaming- I hope u like ur boss & it's just banter. I'd be pretty miffed if not, and def not inclined to spill the beans anytime soon!

Dreamingoutloud7 · 15/07/2016 19:48

Thanks lucky to be honest I'm not expecting much support that's why I wasn't going to tell her for a while. I also can't really trust her not to tell anyone else, so that's annoying.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 15/07/2016 19:49

ready no unfortunately the language she used was not banter, she can be very difficult sometimes.
I just didn't need this stress really.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 15/07/2016 19:52

Urgh, I've had an awful day sickness wise.
I had to jump out of bed this morning to throw up and then was sick again 30 mins later. I was convinced I had a stomach bug or something.
I text my boss to say I wasn't going to make it in, but by the time she rang back I had pulled myself round a bit. I finally managed to drag myself in 2 hours late.

It was a struggle to get through the day. All I've eaten is a bag of monster munch!

Started feeling a little bit hungry when I got home, DH put the oven on and I immediately thought I was going to be sick.

I'm in bed now, even DS isn't asleep yet, DH is still reading him a story!

I so want this nausea to go! Sad

ButtonTum · 15/07/2016 20:10

Congrats its! Great pic!

ButtonTum · 15/07/2016 20:23

Dreaming your boss sounds like a nightmare. Mine is such a blabber mouth as well and know she is going to tell everyone. As long as she doesn't tell my team I guess it's ok.

Gum that's an epic feast! Is be quite jealous if it wasn't for for the fact I've just pigged fish, chips and bartered sausage Blush

wispaxmas · 15/07/2016 20:27

Congratulations, Its!

Radders, first time around I was bloated up until about 10 weeks, then was basically back to normal until past 20 weeks! The the bump steadily grew and it was definitely noticeable and different to pudge as it was hard! Second time around they say the uterus expands earlier as it has done it before, so I do think I have a bit of a bump even now at 11+2!

gumboots, that really made me chuckle, I love your confessions. I walked to waitrose today to pick up lunch and dinner for us and ended up getting the takeaway Indian for two, a pizza, a cinnamon swirl, and a massive butterscotch yum yum. All delicious.

Lucky, I think it depends massively on your hospital. Last time the scan was very quick and then I was stuck waiting for my blood to be drawn for about an hour. This time as I've opted for a scan at the Harris Birthright Fetal Medicine unit I've been advised that the scan itself may last up to an hour (!!) and then I have to wait for the results of the blood test and screening that day.

Dreaming, your boss sounds like a bitch!

That's awful dreaming Sad

AngrySparrow · 15/07/2016 22:43

Glad to hear I'm not the only one eating random things! I have found that the only way to keep the nausea at bay is by eating carb heavy food. Today I had 4 potato waffles (covered in vinegar!), a subway sandwich (my guilty pleasure/junk food of choice) and a tin of Heinz ravioli...I had a handful of cherries afterwards so that I could say I had eaten some fruit! No wonder I am bloated and putting on weight only 8+5 weeks in!!

twocatsandatoddler · 15/07/2016 22:47

gumboots I bought a 5-pack of iced buns from Waitrose the other day and ate them all in an afternoon Blush. I have a particular weakness for their lemon yum yums too.

LaceyLee · 16/07/2016 05:56

Glad to hear about this snacking! I've been eating haribos and craving pizza... I seem to get hungry every 2 hours max! I think you have to eat whatever you can. I plan to be healthier in the 2nd triSmile
Symptoms are still strong here, nausea, tiredness (can't stay awake past 8.30) and diarrhea (yuck). 10+4.

Dreamingoutloud7 · 16/07/2016 07:03

button, wispa and bohemian thanks, she definitely can be all those things!
I'm still not sure whether to tell her, one girl reckons she might've guessed and is trying to get me to confess, so that's really making me not want to tell her!
Think I might just have to take the abuse today Hmm and excuse myself whenever I need to stuff crackers down me!
I'll tell her on Friday regardless wether the scan is good or bad, hopefully that'll show her she needs to be a bit more considerate as you don't always know what's going on.

2ManySweets · 16/07/2016 07:41

Gosh, Dreaming, your boss sounds like a hideous bitch. I hope she's not going to give you aggro for the time off you'll need for appointments! Time to read up o. Your rights methinks. X

Woke up at 5am this morning feeling the same kind of nausea that you get with a hangover. Can't work out if it's a random one off or at 8w bang on its HELLO SICKNESS.

divadee · 16/07/2016 09:21

Morning lovelies.

Well dreading this evening as we have a BBQ to go to with partners friends from old job that I haven't met. I feel awful in the evening with nausea and dry heave my way through the night at home. And that's without the smells of BBQ food cooking!!! Gahhhh.

wm3010 · 16/07/2016 10:01

congratulations it's that's great!

dreaming that sounds tough, so much harder if work isn't supportive.

Glad to hear I am not the only one being a complete pig, partial to a whole tube of Pringles at the moment, was plain ones last week but now like the sour cream and chive ones! Have been off chocolate but starting to get back a taste for it - that's progress surely?!

In terms of bump I was very bloated first time round, and ended up in mat trousers by 10 weeks although just looked fat until nearer 20 weeks I would say.

PhoebeGeebee · 16/07/2016 10:30

Morning all - I have a question, well more of a WWYD?

So I had my 12 week scan on Wednesday and was so so anxious before it. I was so relieved to see a heartbeat and a nice growing baby that when she said she couldn't get the nuchal measurement (and told me they didn't offer follow up scans) I didn't think to question it.

I know I can have my bloods done at my next midwife appt (at 16 weeks) but now, after doing a bit of googling, I've worried myself.

Should I have pushed for another scan? Should I look at going private?

I genuinely don't think I'd terminate even if it showed I was high risk, so should I just wait for the 16 week bloods?

Dreamingoutloud7 · 16/07/2016 13:16

wm I don't need to worry about time off, I work for a company that's situated inside another company, the lady that's being difficult is more like a department manager I guess, my actual boss for the actual company I work for will be lovely and supportive and will definitely give me everything I'm entitled to. Unfortunately she doesn't have a lot of control over my day to day environment.

So as well as taking my snacks from my desk drawers she has also taken everyone's water bottle, so we can only drink during lunch time. Really trying to control the hormones right now Angry

pheobe I guess the question is wether you really want to know?
I think it's a bit off that you don't get offered a rescan considering the point of it is a nuchal scan.
I would probably end up going private just to have the information.
