Crazy that we are onto thread 4 already!

Just starting the 12-week scans, but still feet firmly in the anxiety-ridden first trimester, yikes!

I'm Northern Ireland, I've never heard of paying here. We get a little cardboard folder frame too to keep it in for free too

February 2017 - Thread 4 (are we the chattiest bunch or what?!)
MarjorySunshineDust · 29/07/2016 17:26

We had to pay £3 for our scan photo, remember paying last time too.

Theresa look at those leggies! So cute.

SausageDogGeorge · 29/07/2016 17:29

Our scan photos were £5 each which seems a lot! We bought 3 - one for us, one for DP's parents and one for my mum. They're all different photos too.

TheresaMarie55 · 29/07/2016 17:55

They're 5 pounds here but we got three for free as they're using my scan pictures for training purposes. They will be shown at training courses and will likely go in the books midwives use! My details will be taken off but I'd spot those legs anywhere haha x

TheresaMarie55 · 29/07/2016 17:58

Sorry about the lighting. Will take a better pic another day. This was last week x

Readyfortwo · 29/07/2016 18:12

theresa that scan photo is amazing! It looks like baby is chilling in a hammock.

I paid £3 for my pic but they did put it in a little card for me....

Evergreen17 · 29/07/2016 18:15

Friendly since we are at the same hospital for scan can you reassure me that I got this right and we dont need a full bladder?

Excellent bumps everyone! I look just fat so I got spandex for underneath my wedding dress Confused

Evergreen17 · 29/07/2016 18:20

Sunshine how far did you think you were?
I am a bit worried they will ask me to come back as scan is on the 4th and I am leaving for trip after wedding on the 13th

Evergreen17 · 29/07/2016 18:32

Sky I see you have the same worry!
From LMP I will be 12+1 but I know I ovulated 2 days late Confused

I get 20 weeks full pay although my pay is not great anyway... This is one of the reasons why I stuck to this job even though I am fed up with it...

Gumsboots that is funny!

Theresa that scan is too cute!!

Cinderella mine will be £5.50. Sad

FriendlyGhost · 29/07/2016 19:26

Evergreen we definitely don't need a full bladder. I didn't last time either although that was at a different hospital. Apparently with the more modern equipment they don't need it and the uterus should have risen up enough by then too.
Last time I had to go in 3 times because dd wouldn't behave. After the first go I was told to have a cold drink to get her to move and come back in 20 minutes. I went back after my drink and she was jumping around too much to get measurements and after my drink my bladder was apparently too full so they actually asked me to empty it. We finally got it right on the third attempt.

Dutchy88 · 29/07/2016 19:43

Maternity leave in The Netherlands is awful - 16 weeks full pay, 4 of those have to be before your due date and then nothing after that. With ds I took 4 months unpaid but even then going back when he was 7 months old felt awful. I think I'll be going back at about 7 months with this one too, all being well.

Got my nt scan on Thursday - I can't wait to see baby again even though it's been less than a week. I forgot how worrying pregnancy is until you can feel baby moving around and know it's ok. I've got an anterior placenta again this time so that won't help with the movements.

ButtonTum · 29/07/2016 19:48

Great pic Theresa Smile

Cinderella I have to pay for mine, £5 for 2 and also only take correct money in coins. Cheek!

gumbootsandjandals · 29/07/2016 20:32

Oh yes, parking. The parking spaces at the maternity hospital are the narrowest of any across the Trust's sites. I have a Clio. If the only space available is between two cars the passenger has to get out before the car is parked. Often people cannot enter the car park because the machine thinks it's full. It's not - people have parked across two spaces out of necessity while other people are parked on double yellows. Partners have missed scans because of the ridiculous parking situation.

Sunshineface123 · 29/07/2016 21:00

evergreen I thought I was only 11.4 so wasn't far out!

Our pics were £5 each and we bought 3...steep!!

MarjorySunshineDust · 29/07/2016 21:23

I actually had to empty my bladder half way through the scan to try and get the baby to change position and could still see plenty after. I won't bother drinking the litre before my next one, don't think it's really necessary.

Evergreen17 · 29/07/2016 22:06

Friendly thanks for the info!
6 days until scan GrinGrinGrin

Jojoclaire · 29/07/2016 22:21

At Kings I wasn't offered to have prints at all, they said they didn't do them but we were welcome to take pics on our phones.
I was happier to do that anyway as the pics I took of the private printed ones didn't come out that well.

Maybe you could ask if you can just take pics on the screen rather than paying?

Shellbell0403 · 29/07/2016 22:21

evergreen not coming quick enough! How's hour symptoms?

Shellbell0403 · 29/07/2016 22:21

your

wispaxmas · 29/07/2016 22:23

I get my scans done at the fetal medicine unit at Kings, and they don't print out photos for you, so you have to take a photo of the screen with your phone if you want one!

OP posts:
wispaxmas · 29/07/2016 22:24

Snap, jojo!

OP posts:
FriendlyGhost · 29/07/2016 22:30

Jojo and Wispa were you asked if you wanted to know the sex? A friend of mine had her 12 week scan at Kings and she was told that they could tell the sex early because the equipment is so good. She decided to wait until birth to find out but I thought it was amazing that they could tell that early.

LondonGirl83 · 29/07/2016 22:32

Not necessary to have a full bladder. I don't have to pay for pics - I'm surprised to hear some people get charged!

Our maternity is 6 weeks at full pay and then I think about 6 months at 60 percent pay. I actually need to double check

My DH works for the civil service so he is going to take 5 moths paternity leave at full pay after I go back to work and the first six weeks with me right when the baby is born. He is incredibly lucky the civil service is so generous!

SkyLucy · 29/07/2016 22:51

London that's great about your DH! Mine works for a Qatari broadcaster...somehow don't think they'll be as generous!! Confused

My mat policy is 4 weeks' full pay then statutory. Never thought to check it before I joined. I used to work at the Beeb...that was a much better deal!

Interesting re full bladder/no full bladder. I've been told to drink a litre and a half beforehand. If that's even physically possible, I'll explode!

I'm fascinated by just how different the approaches of all of our NHS trusts are about even seemingly trivial things...it's a real eye-opener.

Jojoclaire · 29/07/2016 23:04

Haha wispa good to know she wasn't spinning me a yarn!

friendly it hadn't even occurred to me to ask about finding out the gender at the 12 week at Kings, I was trying my hardest not to be sick and was in for ages with "the wriggler" so she might not have been impressed if I'd requested that too. Good to know though, they do have amazingly new kit so wouldn't be surprised.

Who else is at Kings?
