Crazy that we are onto thread 4 already!

Just starting the 12-week scans, but still feet firmly in the anxiety-ridden first trimester, yikes!

Good luck for the scans today xx

SausageDogGeorge · 26/07/2016 11:33

Thats really insensitive of your friend SBSparkles
At some point we all have to announce a pregnancy! Just ignore her! Flowers

kikisdelivery · 26/07/2016 11:35

sparkles I think you handled that fine, and agree, she seems pretty insensitive. You're entitled to announce your pregnancy when you are ready, not when other people deem it appropriate or safe!

We are waiting to see what our 12 week scan outcome is and pending all being ok, will likely do the same thing. I would reply to anyone who did what your "friend" did to you in exactly the same way as you did!

Kellz92 · 26/07/2016 11:40

Sparkles I will be announcing mine on there on Monday. I think thats rude more than anything. You wouldnt have to explain anything. There isno safe point until baby is here. just chances after your scan are a bit lower. xx

Firsttimemumdiana · 26/07/2016 12:05

Hi!
This is my first message on mumsnet and also my first pregnancy.
I'm due on 28/2/17 and very happy to be pregnant! Husband had testicular cancer a couple of years ago so we were worried about our chances to conceive naturally. I had an early scan at 7w2d and booked a private scan for Thursday (lack of symptoms really worries me). I will be having the Harmony test on 06/08 and the NHS scan on the 19/08 at 12w5d (so a lot of scans! )

I am 30, a Psychology Graduate, and work as a Positive Behaviour Support Practioner in an Independent Specialist College in London. I mainly work with young people with Autism, Communication disorders and behaviours that challenge.

I thought I would say hello and introduce myself!

Diana

twocatsandatoddler · 26/07/2016 12:11

welcome diana

I'm also a psychology graduate (although now an accountant!).

Lack of symptoms doesn't mean anything - I have had virtually none but everything looked ok at 12 week scan, bar one blood result being slightly off, so really don't worry!

LondonGirl83 · 26/07/2016 12:14

Sparkles I think your friend was out of order. 2nd trimester loss is very rare and really isn't what you need to be thinking about right now. What does she expect you to do, hide your pregnancy until you give birth? Or wait until cot death risk has passed before telling anyone you've had a baby?

Sometimes terrible tragedies happen in life but I really don't think that is any reason not to let people know what going on with you. In fact, if women were more open about how common miscarriage is, I think that would be a good thing too. It wasn't until I had my own that I learned how many people I know had experienced the same (more than once).

Why are we as women told to be ashamed of the bad things that happen to us in life?

LondonGirl83 · 26/07/2016 12:15

Welcome Dina

Shellbell0403 · 26/07/2016 12:32

Hey dina

Can I ask, has any of you lost weight in your first trimester? Are you managing to eat fruit etc?

FriendlyGhost · 26/07/2016 12:35

Welcome Diana Smile
Sparkes your friend is being ridiculous. Most people announce after 12 weeks because the risks are so low. We all know something can happen at any time but it shouldn't be hidden or be something to be ashamed of.
I went out for a meal and told my NCT friends last night. I'm the first to get pregnant again but it sounds like they're all going to be trying for no.2 soon which is lovely.

Kellz92 · 26/07/2016 12:37

Hi Diana Congratulations :) xx

Firsttimemumdiana · 26/07/2016 12:41

Thanks for the welcome!

twocatsandatoddler (love your username!) I made the mistake of googling everything and that just turned me into a hypochondriac! 😜 Lesson learned, as soon as I see the baby I will chill and enjoy the process...

Sparkle I announced my pregnancy early because I was excited and also because I didnt want to make up excuses for being tired all the time. I also had to tell work early so that they don't expect me to take part in physical interventions.

LondonGirl83 You are right...if sometimes bad does happen, why should we be ashamed?? If I miscarry, I would like people to know, I wouldn't want to hide it and do it all on my own!

mrschn · 26/07/2016 12:48

waves hi everyone. I'm a bit late in joining the group, and I see you've already been up to lots of chatting!!
We had our 12 week scan today which all looks ok so I'm now confident enough to sign up as a fully fledged member of the Feb 2017 due date club ;)
We are due 3rd Feb.
I have a DS aged 2 1/2 so this will be out second. Also had a mc on route to this pregnancy so was so nice today to get good news.

Hope everyone is starting to exit the sicky phase and good luck for all the upcoming scans.

LondonGirl83 · 26/07/2016 12:54

Shell I've lost about 8lbs so far. I eat fruit constantly. Sometimes its the only thing I can face.

My nausea has come back massively today after having been more moderate the last few days. Feeling very sorry for myself.

FriendlyGhost · 26/07/2016 13:12

Hello mrschn. Congrats on your scan!
London I've pretty much been living on fruit and salad because it's all I really fancy. I've still managed to put on weight though. I think my body likes to do that during pregnancy unfortunately.
11 weeks exactly today and after a few days of feeling a bit better I feel exhausted and sick again today. Feel so sorry for you working full time and commuting. I did last time and it nearly killed me. I ended up working from home a lot!

Dreamingoutloud7 · 26/07/2016 13:19

Thought I might get through this without any ms just a bit of nausea, but nope last night it came full swing! Feeling a bit better today but I'm getting similar feelings so it wouldn't surprise me if it happens again!
I'm 10 weeks on Thursday I thought things were meant to calm down not get worse!

london I think I've only eaten 1 peice of fruit in 10 weeks now Blush all sweet things went directly out the window and I lived off of anything beige to curb the nausea. Managed a peach the other day though so maybe i'll attempt something else soon!

Shellbell0403 · 26/07/2016 13:19

London i have lost 8lbs aswell! Was panicking abit incase was to much haha. Iv not really ate alot of fruit or veg recently but only cos can't really stomach much xx

MrsM2016 · 26/07/2016 13:26

I've lost 8lb too!! I am eating a lot of fruit, bread, cheese and ready salted crisps!! X

kikisdelivery · 26/07/2016 13:27

Shell I've been appalling at eating fruit/veg - it's only been the past week or so I've been eating them again, and even then not at the amount I used to. I've been a real bread / stodge monster over the past few weeks because it's all I've fancied. The other half brought back some quinoa and butternut squash salad from the shop for lunch when I was at about 7 weeks, and I ate it like a suspicious toddler. I mean, I still ate it, but it took me ages to get through it and it was like flavourless, nasty grit to my stomach! Give me crisps and a sandwich baguette right now... I'm hoping trimester 2 will put me back on the fruit/veg path properly!

MrsM2016 · 26/07/2016 13:28

My nausea wore off but has been back yesterday and today. I am feeling sorry for myself too! Also struggling with the commute and tiredness. We are all wonder women really aren't we!! X

ButtonTum · 26/07/2016 13:40

Ifatfirst I'm exactly the same as you re food and pointy shaped tummy! Super strange isn't it. Didn't expect to see anything much this early but the last few days there is a definite shape there

Oh Sky Flowers I didn't see you but yes I come into Euston. I'm in BerkhamstedSmile

I'm also working from home today! High five!

Shell I have stayed exactly the same on the scales but physically have ballooned Envy I have no waist

Welcome new people!

Dutchy88 · 26/07/2016 13:41

sparkles your friend is being very insensitive. I announced my first pregnancy on Facebook as soon as of had my scan. I would be doing the same for this one except it's the summer holidays so I'm not at work to tell my boss (I'm a teacher) and want to tell him before I publicly announce it.

Diana I had no symptoms with ds and he is here and perfect and my only symptom with this pregnancy so far has been tiredness and yet the five scans I've had (lots of bleeding) show all is well with this one.

What's everyone nicknamed the baby? Ds was dinosaur because that's what Dh thought he looked like at the first scan and this one is Llama (because it's caused so much drama).

SBSparkles · 26/07/2016 13:41

Congrats mrschn on your scan and welcome! Thank you for the supportive comments on here! I did call her out and she's apologised saying it won't happen again. But really, you shouldn't have to deal with this from a friend! London your comment made me lol! Imagine hiding your baby until it was older incase of anything happening! It's ridiculous and as my husband put it 'if anything bad did happen the least of your worries would be what people on FB thought!' She even started going on about lily Allen and things like that!
Maybe she just can't be happy for me or allow me to be happy!

Kellz92 · 26/07/2016 13:43

Mrschn Welcome and congrats

London i have lost 8lbs too, Fruit is a craving and also helps the nausea, that and cheese and crackers and ready salted crisps

Shell with DD i lost 2st in first 16 weeks my mw wasnt concerned

MrsM Similar foods to me lol, my nausea had calmed down but last few days has been sticking around

xxx

Shellbell0403 · 26/07/2016 13:44

I have been eating bread also but only like fresh bread like tiger bread or Paninis etc haha.

Mrs M does the ready salted crisps work?
