Crazy that we are onto thread 4 already!

Just starting the 12-week scans, but still feet firmly in the anxiety-ridden first trimester, yikes!

Evergreen - 28 day return policy is your friend - maybe buy the size that fits you now and the one up and return the unworn one after?

I say this because at 10 weeks I was just looking a bit bloated, at 11 weeks there is definitely the start of a bump which wasn't there last week!

Sienna9522 · 20/07/2016 11:21

Anyone else got swollen ankles already? I'm about 9 weeks and 3 days Hmm

MrsM2016 · 20/07/2016 11:25

No swollen ankles but my tummy is rather round, despite loosing weight everywhere else through sickness!! I am 10 week and 2 days. X

LondonGirl83 · 20/07/2016 11:49

Yes, my tummy is round too despite having lost about 7 pounds. I measured myself today and my hips and thighs are smaller but my waist and boobs are bigger (no real surprise).

I'm glad I've actually lost some weight in the first trimester as I really don't want to have too much of a total gain. My skin gets stretch marks really easily (I still have bad ones from my growth spurt in height during puberty). If I let myself blow up, I'll 100% end up looking like a road map so I am going to try to be sensible even once the nausea has subsided.

LondonGirl83 · 20/07/2016 12:04

Practical question: for those of you in London (I think we have a few of us on here) do you think you need to get a car once you have kids? I'm trying to work up a baby budget and I'm a bit torn about the issue.

ButtonTum · 20/07/2016 12:14

2Many yes it was kind of dried up and crystalline. Must be colostrum.

Sienna not ankles but hands, face (!), tummy deffo. Oof the heat doesn't help Blush

Itslittlek · 20/07/2016 12:17

I need food inspiration badly!!! Any offerings?? Anything to stop me eating more bread!

twocatsandatoddler · 20/07/2016 12:25

london I'm not in London now but used to be so feel vaguely qualified to answer!

We find the car useful for going away to visit people - otherwise it would be a right pain to cart a travel cot, buggy, a travel highchair and overnight bags on public transport.

We also sometimes use it around town, but only because we don't really have public transport here, and to be honest I only used it once or twice a week on mat leave as I preferred to walk. If we still lived in London with great transport to anywhere then we wouldn't need one for day-to-day. When I go into central London with DS I tend to walk everywhere as its the easiest way to get around with a buggy.

So I would say it depends on how many out of town overnight trips you think you'll do!

jpclarke · 20/07/2016 12:30

So glad to read about the positive 12 week scans, I am 8 weeks tomorrow and due to be scanned on the 9th of August. I keep waking up at night with a desperately dry mouth, but my nauseau has been so bad the last few days I am finding it hard to drink as much as I would usually. I am craving pineapple today for some strange reason.

FriendlyGhost · 20/07/2016 12:40

London I personally would find it a lot harder without a car but I live far enough outside London to definitely need one. I think it depends on where you live, your lifestyle and personal preference. Whenever I go into central London I use public transport but before I had a baby and a buggy I had no idea how poor step free access is. Honestly don't know how wheelchair users cope. If you're using the tube a lot it's worth getting a good sling.
When I'm traveling in outer London I almost always use my car. I find that especially in the early days you have so much stuff with you and it takes so long to get out of the house it's easier to shove everything in the car and just go. It's also useful for weekends away because you'll end up with vast amounts of stuff to transport which is tricky on public transport.

LondonGirl83 · 20/07/2016 12:57

Hmm, thanks Friendly and Twocats. I live in zone 2 of south London.

I live in a neighborhood where its very easy to walk to the shops, gym, parks, restaurants , movies etc and its a very child friendly neighborhood as well. Most of our friends live locally. DH'S parents live in SW England but we only go 3 or 4 times a year.

I just think it would be cheaper to use zip car the one day a week we might head out of our neighborhood. Also, I think renting a car for big trips out of town should also be a lot cheaper. Maybe I'm being naive but I feel like I would resent paying for a car (including insurance, road tax etc) that I probably would max use once a week. We won't need it for child care as that will be at our home as well.

I don't know. I've never used zip car so maybe its not as easy to grab a car when you need it as I think it will be.

Ginger06 · 20/07/2016 13:04

Hi ladies I hope all is well for you
I had my first scan today baby is ok and healthy I was so happy to see him or her.
I am just confused as they said I am 13 weeks but I know very well when I conceived because I took an ovulation test which means I am 12 weeks exactly today. Do you think they are accurate ?

February 2017 - Thread 4 (are we the chattiest bunch or what?!)
twocatsandatoddler · 20/07/2016 13:10

I'm sure you'd be able to get by with zip cars if there's a convenient place to pick one up by you, and hire a car for long journeys. You'd be able to do that a lot of times before you got close to the cost of running a car. I'd suggest seeing how you get on with that rather than spending the money on getting a car before the baby is born if you don't think you'll use it much. My brother lives in Clapham and uses zip cars, I'm seeing him this weekend so I can ask him how convenient he finds it. Taxis are also an option for the odd journey - you don't need a car seat legally but I always bring ours if we're getting a taxi, but I presume if you're planning to use zip cars you'll have a car seat anyway!

I always had a car in London but it mainly got used to drive out of London to visit family and friends, hardly ever used it during the week.

LondonGirl83 · 20/07/2016 13:14

Ginger congrats! I think the measurements can still be a bit off at this stage so I wouldn't worry, especially as you a measuring ahead rather than behind. Its amazing who quickly the little embryos we created in May start looking like tiny human beings. My husband was blown away by how much our little one had changed between the 7 week and 9 week scan. He actually wants to get one every week (we can't afford that) and has the last scan picture as his phone background...

LondonGirl83 · 20/07/2016 13:18

TwoCats if you wouldn't mind asking your brother that would be great.

I figure we'll use Uber instead of zip car most of the time as long as we are going somewhere (museum, friends house etc) where we can store the car seat easily. I think for certain travel systems you can use the car seat as part of the pram but that's not advised for more than a couple of hours or something.

MrsM2016 · 20/07/2016 13:24

Lovely pic Ginger so clear!!! I too get confused about the dates! x

FriendlyGhost · 20/07/2016 13:36

Londongirl83 thanks for your reassurance. I am over the moon can't wait to find the sexe of the baby we asked but we have been told we'll know on the 20 weeks scan. Seven weeks to go Halo

Ginger06 · 20/07/2016 13:42

MrsM2016 thank you. Yes it was so clear at some point we saw her or him putting her/his thumb in mouth oh the joy to see that we both cried

Readyfortwo · 20/07/2016 13:49

I had a scan today, baby wasn't playing ball but got there eventually (after a lot of pelvic thrusting & being tilted upside down on the bed). Went to the wrong hospital- assumed it would be the same as last time as I'd chosen the same hospital for birth but apparently not- ended up doing a mad dash up the motorway to the other hospital....top tip: read ur scan letter!

Anyway, initially got a due date of 1st Feb & the sonographer said 'but they come when they're ready', when I replied with 'not mine, I was 16 days over last time' she kindly 're-measured' (read: included a bit of fresh air) and gave me 29th Jan. That def gives me a bit of comfort, although I could end up being induced on my birthday...

February 2017 - Thread 4 (are we the chattiest bunch or what?!)
MrsM2016 · 20/07/2016 13:58

ginger that is incredible!! What a lovely thing to see!

readyfortwo another lovely clear photo!!

How long do they give you to look at your baby on the screen? X

Readyfortwo · 20/07/2016 14:19

I think it was about 10-15 mins, but it wasn't playing ball so took longer. They check the brain & the Nuchal fold & make sure all the limbs are in place etc so plenty of opportunities to see.

LondonGirl83 · 20/07/2016 14:43

Friendly my due date is actually the 18th and yes this is my first DC. Just noticed that I must have made a typo with estimated delivery date when first joining the group.

ScottyAl · 20/07/2016 15:40

FriendlyGhost, thanks for adding me to the list! Just to fill in the blank; this will be my first Smile

Seeing everyone's lovely clear scan pics has me excited for mine a week tomorrow!

Kellz92 · 20/07/2016 15:40

How is everybody! i have loads to catch up on. Been off of here for a few weeks with days off with DD her being ill then her getting chicken pox.

I have my scan on the 1st Aug i will be 13+1 then seeing the consultant on the 5th

xx
