peonylover22 · 27/06/2016 19:00

Hi can I join? My due date is 9 Jan and I'm 12 weeks today. This will be my first baby if all goes well.

I'm a mumsnet novice but have been lurking in the shadows reading this thread for a while; so lovely to read people's happy scan news but sending hugs to those to have experienced losses recently.

My scan is not until next week but I've had a private scan which was reassuring. I had my booking appointment last week but was called into hospital today by the midwife as my urine sample tested positive for group B strep. I'm now on antibiotics and will be given IV antibiotics during labour, but I'm still fretting.

Has anybody previously experienced this and was it okay?

Baby2kt · 27/06/2016 21:20

I've just signed up - I'm due 1st Jan with baby number 2. I had my scan on Friday and all seems fine. Having to tell everyone now as bump a lot bigger earlier than last time!

Parney · 27/06/2016 21:29

Welcome Baby! We have the same due date! I don't have a bump though, baby number 1 and I'm jealous that you're showing 😂
Sorry Peony I can't be of any help, I'm sure others will be more informative.
ducky! That's lovely news!!!

Duckyneedsaclean · 27/06/2016 22:01

I'm terrified! How do you do anything with twins?? Grin

SunCrusHH · 28/06/2016 08:49

Morning all! Welcome newbies! I have my scan on the 15/7. Absolutely terrified. Other than being tired I feel fine. Boobs are fuller but not sore and sickness has gone. I'm 10 weeks. I'm not usually an anxious person !!

Just wondering how long everyone's took? My letter says it can take up to 90 minutes? I must be seeing the midwife after as they can't possibly scan me for that long!

swancourt · 28/06/2016 09:46

Wow ducky that's so exciting! I can understand your trepidation too. Look into TAMBA - friends of mine with twins found them invaluable.

i had my scan on Friday (haven't posted - did the scan in between tears and refernedum arguments) - got four days added back on (I originally thought I was due on 31st December, but two scans at six and nine weeks put me at 3rd January - this scan put me back at 31st). I'll stay here if that's okay - I already dropped off the December thread after hanging around on both and now I feel bedded in here.

Anyway, the baby was super-wriggly and very well, so it was lovely. This makes me 13+3.

Astro86 · 28/06/2016 11:33

We'll keep you Swancourt don't worry! Smile

I don't know much about group B strep, maybe there's more info on the general childbirth or pregnancy boards?

Sun I remember my scan for my first (Oxford JR) always said to leave 90mins, I guess in case they run behind. And if you're having the blood test too that will add time. I've got my scan tomorrow(!!) I'm both excited and scared (how much is scan fear and how much is getting lost in the hospital fear I'm not sure!)

Oh and welcome to the newbies!

SunCrusHH · 28/06/2016 15:25

Scan fear is well and truely getting to me and I have 2 weeks to go !! I think hubs might have a heart attack if it was twins !!

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 28/06/2016 17:11

I also had my scan yesterday and deff only have one in there Smile
It's so weird seeing it! I only got put forward by two days so EDD is now Jan 8th. I just want another one now so I can see it again!

Sun mine said it could take up to an hour and I had a blood test after the scan but in total I was there for about an hour and a half - got there 20 mins early like it asks, waited an extra 15 mins after appointment time, 15 mins of scanning and probs 20 mins until blood test. Luckily there were some hilarious toddlers in the waiting room who kept us entertained!

SunCrusHH · 28/06/2016 17:27

Thanks everyone! I have blocked out my morning diary for it anyway. Just need to put it to the back of my mind for now.

Good luck to everyone with their scans!!! Crazy to think it's scan time and also crazy to think twins have already been found haha

CarrotVan · 29/06/2016 09:15

I'm so sorry zylab and whatabanana. It's a truly horrible experience and I hope you're being well looked after

CarrotVan · 29/06/2016 09:16

Twins, ducky! Wow.

Emmalucyday · 29/06/2016 10:11

With a lot of help! Do you know what sort of twins you are having? I had DCDA twins, two separate sacs and placentas and I was so sick!

CarrotVan · 29/06/2016 11:34

I have my booking in on Monday and then they'll arrange my first scheduled scan and bloods. I've already had 3 scans for early pregnancy monitoring so I know there's only one in there.

How are people getting on with clothes? I'm struggling to manage my work clothes. Usually I wear a lot of jersey dresses or tailored dresses but nothing seems to fit or look right at the moment. I've got lots of maternity clothes from DS1 and things that I've picked up in the last few weeks but they're all too maternityish for this stage.

peonylover22 · 29/06/2016 13:30

I have been doing a lot of thinking about work clothes, especially as I have had a bloaty belly since 9 weeks which I am keen not to display to my work colleagues until my scan next week. I normally wear pencil skirts or fitted dresses but they either won't do up or make the bump too obvious.

I think there are two options at this inbetween stage for work wear. Firstly, loose dresses from Cos or similar (sadly dreadful on me). Secondly, dresses that are fitted at the empire line with some sort of ruching or flaps of fabric to distract from the bump. I have bought 2 dresses in the Jigsaw sale which are working really well for me. One is silk with a wide tie that you can use to cinch it in, and another jersey one that is gathered in on the empire line with a fold of fabric hanging down the middle of the dress. Both dresses have lots of room in them so I'm hopeful that I'll get several months of wear out of them. Wrap dresses are also good for expanding bellies, but less good at hiding the bump. I have a faux wrap dress fitted on the empire line from Monsoon several years ago which does a good job of hiding the bump but I haven't seen anything similar this year.

CarrotVan · 29/06/2016 15:26

I also can't wear Cos - everything looks like it's from The Handmaid's Tale or some similar dystopian oppressed future.

I've got quite a few jersey dresses with twist/knot fronts and ruching which are working ok. I'm finding empire line makes me look pregnant/fat though

I've got some great wide leg trousers from Coast with a very deep (4") soft waistband that are slightly too big for me and they are working well

Duckyneedsaclean · 29/06/2016 15:35

Emmalucyday Mine are DCDA too!

I've a feeling they're identical though - no history in my family & they measured exactly the same...

Oddly I've been less sick than previous pregnancies (had HG with ds1 & needed medication with ds2). I've been so incredibly tired though!

Duckyneedsaclean · 29/06/2016 15:37

CarrotVan I've just been shopping for maternity clothes and had no luck whatsoever. My jeans etc are slightly tight atm, but nowhere near ready for full blown maternity wear.

It's an awkward stage.

Duckyneedsaclean · 29/06/2016 15:38

My purchases of the day Grin. I'll stop posting now!

January 2017 babies - Thread #2
DarkLikeVader · 29/06/2016 15:57

afternoon all, may I join? I had my 12 week scan yesterday and have been told my EDD isn't 9th Jan like I thought but 3rd Jan. Proud owner of one very wriggly baby but I'm so anxious at the moment, (I've had a thread in chat about it) as I had a MC last summer. Does anyone share my due date?
