I'm later than you Vader but also have a history of MC (3 last year) so totally get the anxiety

DarkLikeVader · 29/06/2016 16:05

Hi CarrotVan. it's horrid isn't it. It's part anxiety and part beating myself up for doing all the wrong things before I found out I was pregnant. argh.

Astro86 · 29/06/2016 16:08

Had my scan today (only the one baby! DH's sigh of relief was very amusing to the techs in the room!), but my due date has changed to Jan 5th putting me at 12+6. We certainly won't be risking the trip to Yorkshire for Christmas this year!

Now we can tell people, but I'm strangely nervous. Need to tell our close family and DS (aka fog horn!) so i'm not expecting it to stay quiet long but don't really want to do the big announcement thing, I get uncomfortable with the attention.

Clothes are a nightmare at the moment, most of my normal stuff is too tight, maternity is too big and as I'm petite I can't just get a size bigger in the interim. I've got a bump band and a couple I've made from old stretchy vests which help, but when it's been so humid I've really not wanted that extra layer. I'm basically doing like they do on to, baggy cardigans and carrying coats/bags strategically in front of my tummy!

hels18 · 29/06/2016 16:31

Congrats on the twins ducky! How exciting!

peonylover I am in the same predicament, and finding that loose summer dresses are good (Oasis have a few). On days I forget and wear a pencil skirt, I un-tuck my shirt a bit and wear a light scarf so it falls down my front. Also waterfall cardigans are great at disguising a bloated belly/ bump. H&M are good (and cheap!)

Next maternity jeans are fantastic. It got to the point I was very uncomfortable in my regular skinnies and couldn't do the button up. The next ones are great as have discreet buttons on the inside to loosen as you get bigger, and the bump band isn't too big so will stretch in time. I had got some from Jojo Mama Bebe but they were terrible and kept falling down so took them back!

SunCrusHH · 29/06/2016 17:38

I'm 10 weeks. No bump here but feeling the bloat at the end of the day! This is baby #1 so I don't think you show as quickly. I do find tight things on my tummy unconfotmatable though so I'm living it trousers and skirts for work with a lose fighting top or peplum smart top!

bumblebee86 · 29/06/2016 21:02

Hi
I'm expecting my first baby and today had my dating scan Smile All ok and my due date is 5th January.
I wanted to join this thread to hear how other people are getting on who are at a similar stage to me and also welcome any advice.

MagpieCursedTea · 29/06/2016 22:30

Hello to all the new people!

I've just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes (had it in my first pregnancy so got tested early). So upset that I've got it again and so early on too.
I've got my dating scan tomorrow though, feeling very nervous but not quite as nervous as I was at the scan a couple of weeks ago!

I'm considering investing in a pair of maternity jeans. I mostly wear dresses so tend to just continue wearing them through pregnancy. I lost weight due to the GD last time so that worked out quite well for not needing to buy maternity clothes.

Welcome bumblebee. I'm due two days earlier than you! I've stopped feeling quite so sick bt still have no appetite, I've lost a stone since getting pregnant. I'm so anxious though, about everything. This will be my second baby although third pregnancy. How are you feeling now you've passed the magic 12 week mark?

bumblebee86 · 29/06/2016 23:00

Hi DarkLikeVader
Since about week 5 I've been feeling sick all day and been tired like I've never known. I've kind of got used to eating despite feeling sick because I found if I went too long without eating I felt worse.
The nausea is getting better but still not gone, I'm hoping it goes in the next few weeks!
I've been quite anxious about things, feeling a bit better after seeing baby today, that was very very active, more than I realised it would be!
have you had your scan? x

DarkLikeVader · 29/06/2016 23:17

Yep yesterday and it's a real wriggler too!

SunCrusHH · 30/06/2016 07:46

I was hoping the anxiety went away after the 12 week scan haha!!

MagpieCursedTea · 30/06/2016 07:52

I'm not sure the anxiety ever goes away, I kept thinking it would ease off in my first pregnancy but I still worry about DS! All the worrying in pregnancy is good preparation for parenting though!

peonylover22 · 30/06/2016 09:12

Thanks hels for the clothes tips. I haven't bought any maternity clothes yet as don't want to jinx things before scan, but there's a finite amount of time that I can continue to squeeze myself into my skinny jeans, so will need to buy some maternity jeans soon.

Do the Next ones come in a longer length? I am 5ft 10 so need at least 34" inside leg. Looks like mamalicious do lots of styles in longer length too - has anybody come across them?

I'm a runner and have been lucky enough not to have had any morning sickness so have managed to keep up runs so far (but shorter distance, slower and no hills). Any tips on where to buy maternity running / work-out kit? Needs to be sweat wicking, not cotton yoga type clothes.

CarrotVan · 30/06/2016 09:20

Mamalicious are good - they sell through Asos and New Look so you can often get sale bargains.

Noppies do some sportswear. It might be sports bras that you find most challenging to get a comfortable fit on. For context I went from a 32DD to a 36H in my first pregnancy...Back to normal for now but expecting to be hugely boobed at some point.

hels18 · 30/06/2016 10:03

Yep, they come in petite and long I thing so guess they would be a good fit for most. And don't fall down on me at all! My bump isn't that big as only almost 12 weeks, but it's after eating that it gets bigger and is uncomfortable when sitting down!
www.next.co.uk/x578260s4#108168

I had a scan at 7 weeks and everything was fine then, just hoping that everything is still fine in a couple of weeks! Have a holiday booked over my 12 - 13 weeks so have to wait until almost 14 weeks for my next scan.

Has anyone been to a hot country whilst in the first trimester? I am slightly nervous at how the heat will affect me, especially with the nausea and sickness that I am still experiencing. I guess a lot of water and high spf sun cream is key!

DarkLikeVader · 30/06/2016 10:46

I was in the canaries in the first trimester and I felt shocking although that was the sickness more than the heat. Don't push yourself to do too much and stay hydrated. I didn't have ice in my drinks though as I think that's a health risk overseas due to bacteria? Might be wrong though!

willoughbywolf · 30/06/2016 10:50

Mothercare do a few nice body-con style dresses for £15 -- I've bought one in black and a sleeveless one in black and white which I wear with a longish, loose cardigan and maternity leggings or tights. I find them really comfortable at this stage as they are tight enough not to look like maternity clothes at present, but the runching around the belly gives a subtle amount of room that's disguised by the dark colours. They are jersey too so should last all the way through and I've been thinking they will also be nice for the postnatal bulge which I completely neglected to factor in during my last pregnancy!

Two caveats though:

  1. I have severe morning sickness and have lost weight; consequently belly is still flat(ish) at 11 weeks so there's nothing to really hide yet, although my jeans have felt uncomfortable for the last 3 weeks.
  1. You need to go into Mothercare rather than buy online as IMO the dresses look awful on the website -- I was surprised when I saw them in the shop. For example, this dress is lovely and really flattering in the flesh: www.mothercare.com/Black-Maternity-Tube-Dress/LHA409,default,pd.html

Sick of feeling sick now, have properly descended into self pity Sad

willoughbywolf · 30/06/2016 12:00

Just a question for those who've already had their scan, did you have to have a full bladder? When DS was born this instruction was in the letter confirming my appointment date, but this time it doesn't mention it in the letter or anywhere in the maternity pack I received (there was even a DVD!), so I was wondering if the rules had changed?

Duckyneedsaclean · 30/06/2016 13:09

Yes full bladder does make it easier.

CarrotVan · 30/06/2016 13:19

Full bladder for an abdominal scan, empty bladder for an internal scan.

You don't need a full bladder for the 20 week scan (which no-one mentions) because your uterus has popped out from behind your pelvis and doesn't need to be pushed up by your bladder

CarrotVan · 30/06/2016 13:26

And it's almost always an abdominal scan after 8-9 weeks unless they are struggling to get an image because the woman has a lot of abdominal fat. Some hospitals have super-powerful scan machines for larger women but not all so they might need to do an internal scan

I've had lots in early pregnancy and following mcs and if you do have to have one they are nothing to worry about

sunnypeony · 30/06/2016 14:39

Helllo, I'm 11+1 and I was up most of last night with really bad cramping- like period pains...no bleeding and this morning was fine, but it's just started cramping again. I had a private scan at 7 weeks which showed a heartbeat and everything so I'm not sure what to do- is this normal? I've read that you should see someone if you're bleeding- which I'm not....

Not sure if it's something like constipation (sorry, TMI!) or something to worry about....

willoughbywolf · 30/06/2016 14:43

Thanks both; I'm not fussed about whether the scan is abdominal or internal (have had both before; am unfortunately well acquainted with early pregnancy units) but was confused about why the hospital hadn't mentioned the full bladder in their letter. Only problem is that my pelvic floor is ruined thanks to DS1 so a full bladder is a passport to incontinence which I'd rather avoid in public! I'll take a bottle of water to drink on my commute to the hospital, and hope both ends manage to contain it Wink

willoughbywolf · 30/06/2016 14:48

sunnypeony just seen your post after I posted mine. Is it your first pregnancy? I think what you're describing is normal and just the muscles in your abdomen stretching as your uterus gets bigger. I'm 11+2 with my second and started with period type pains at around 7 weeks which have returned in the last few days. But if it is worrying you could always give your midwife a call, I'm sure she'll reassure you Flowers

sunnypeony · 30/06/2016 14:58

Ah that does reassure me a little. Yeah, first pregnancy and worrying about everything! (Sounds like I'm not the only one haha!). Dating scan is booked in a couple of weeks- feeling in limbo until then!
