That's really cool Hanbeth! My DS is part of a collage of photos which is up in my city. It's a lovely thing to have taken part in.

Haven't been here for a long time now! Hope everyone is doing well. 23 weeks here.
Is everyone going to have a flu jab?
I booked mine for next week.

MagpieCursedTea · 23/09/2016 13:34

Thanks for the reminder, need to book mine!

It is so quiet here! Is everyone chatting pm fb?
I am not getting the flu jab

Duckyneedsaclean · 23/09/2016 13:48

Yes Vixxfacee fb is very busy, I think that's why it's so quiet on here!

I'm feeling fed up today. Can't see how I'm supposed to fit two babies in for another 3 months. Honestly feel ready to pop now.

Vixxfacee · 23/09/2016 14:12

That's frustrating for those of us not on fb!

How big is your stomach at the moment?

Mumchatting · 23/09/2016 14:25

I think I asked to be added 2 months ago and never have been added.
Anyone knows how to join the fb group?

hels18 · 23/09/2016 16:05

Ah, I haven't been offered the flu jab or the whooping cough vaccine yet, perhaps I will at my next midwife appointment. I might do some research into them as not really keen on either to be honest.

I feel awful moaning about my own symptoms at the moment. My lifelong best friend told me yesterday she had just had a miscarriage. It was quite early, but still very understandably devastating for her as she has been trying for a little while now. We always planned for maternity leave together and bring up the babies as close friends. How life does't always go to plan..
She has continued to say how excited she is about my pregnancy, but I know how gutted I would feel if it were the other way around. Anyone else been through something similar?

Duckyneedsaclean · 23/09/2016 17:11

This big, Vixxfacee Shock. And yes, it's a shame, the fb group seems to have completely taken over! Ah well, let's try to revive this one.

hels18 Sorry about your friend, no advice but had a vaguely similar situation with my best friend - it's hard to know the right things to say really.

As for the whooping cough vaccine, is really recommend it, especially for winter babies. It protects the baby until their vaccinations at 2 & 3 months, and whooping cough is getting more & more common. My nephew caught it at around 1 month old & even now at 3yo his breathing is not great.

MagpieCursedTea · 23/09/2016 23:31

Hels really sorry to hear about your friend. I'm in a similar situation with a very close friend. She would've been due about a week before me but went through a very traumatic ectopic pregnancy. We had a good chat about everything which helped, it gave her the chance to talk it all through and meant that I knew what would be helpful for her and what wouldn't.

OP posts:
hopingandwaiting · 24/09/2016 13:39

Blimey - that's a good bump you've got there Ducky

Hels Yeah I've had a friend go through similar recently, it's hard not to feel guilty, but we've had a good chat and I know she's ok and still excited for me.

I had the flu vaccine last week and booked in for my Whooping Cough early October - I had to ring the docs to book them, so you don't have to leave it to the midwife appointment. I work in a school, so there are many bugs and germs go round so the flu vaccine is a no brainer for me, and Whooping Cough can be incredibly nasty so anything I can do now to protect the little guy seems sensible. I git given a pamphlet about it at my booking in appointment.

Vixxfacee · 24/09/2016 16:10

Hels I have been in that situation but as the friend. I have had quite a few friends have babies in the 5 years I've been ttc. I had a miscarriage and at the same time my sister was pregnant with her fourth child and 2 friends pregnant.
I was excited for them but it was a constant reminder of my baby. Please don't feel bad though as you have done nothing wrong! With me it was the pregnancy that upset me, their actual babies didn't affect me strangely.

Ducky omg! What a lovely healthy bump you have. Amazing that you still have 4 months of growing to do! My belly has grown a bit this week. Apparently we should be putting on average a pound a week now. Not sure about if you are carrying twins.

LunaWeaselton · 25/09/2016 10:13

Hi Ladies.A little late to the thread but happy to be here all the same . I'm 24weeks today and My EDD is January 8th .I gather the Facebook group is more active but I'll stick here as I'm not crazy about Facebook . Great job to those keeping the thread alive .Smile

LunaWeaselton · 25/09/2016 10:17

I'd like tips on how to start shopping please if anyone has got some .I just get so overwhelmed at the sheer number of things and then put it off. I've got nothing .

Vixxfacee · 25/09/2016 13:33

Hi Luna, welcome!
I am in the same boat and only have 2 outfits. I have taken a look in mothercare, John Lewis, mamas and papas, next, jojo maman, debenhams as well as various online shops for clothing and nothing seems to be my taste!

I am a few weeks behind you so hopefully I can pick the main bits out in the January sales.

Have you started making a list? Do you have any ideas on which prams you like? It might be a good idea to go into mothercare and just take a look.

LunaWeaselton · 25/09/2016 14:37

Thank you Vixx that might be a good place to start . I've tried to act like a millennial and watch YouTube videos re the strollers/ travel systems .Everything is so fancy/expensive . I'll probably go in and have a look in stores.

Vixxfacee · 25/09/2016 14:40

Do you drive or will you be taking public transport? Prams are so expensive it's is ridiculous as I know I will probably be using a mcclaren in 6 months time.

MagpieCursedTea · 25/09/2016 20:41

Welcome Luna! It can be really over whelming figuring out the things you need. I think the most important thing is that they're fed, have a few things to wear and have somewhere safe to sleep.
Having said that, I'm pregnant with my second so shouldn't need much stuff in theory, I still have a ridiculously long shopping list! Blush

OP posts:
Duckyneedsaclean · 25/09/2016 21:38

Luna, I would buy the very basics, and then you can be a bit calmer about choosing the 'nice-to-haves'.

So my (very) basics list would be..

6 babygros & bodysuits in newborn size
6 babygros & bodysuits in 0-3 months
2 swaddle blankets
6 muslin squares
A snow suit in 0-3 months
2 blankets
Moses basket or crib with sheets - whichever you plan to use at first.
Bouncy chair with vibrate

Once you have those, you can choose your car seat. (Get a maxi cosi cabriofix, they fit all pushchairs & they're lightish)

Then you can choose a travel system or pram. Think about what's important to you - weight, width, easy to fold, fits in boot?

A proper cot can wait. As can play gym, toys etc.

Vixxfacee · 25/09/2016 21:49

Ducky I've been trying to make a similar list. My sister said that I should have 10 baby grows up to 1 month (day ones and night ones). Do you think that sounds alot?
I was going to get 10 baby grows for 0-3 and around 6 outfits/nice rompers.

This is so hard!

Also blankets, you said 2 is that for the pram or to just wrap in general?

Duckyneedsaclean · 25/09/2016 21:59

You'll be given lots of clothes when they're born, so I wouldn't get 10, especially 1 month ones - they might not fit if they're a big baby! And day/night - it all blurs into one really Grin. I found that both times I mostly got given 0-3 month outfits btw.

Yeah, one blanket for the pram & one for the floor/very cold nights.

Of course then you end up seeing a nice outfit or blanket on offer & get more, but if you've got the basics you can not stop worrying!

Duckyneedsaclean · 25/09/2016 22:01

That should say you can stop worrying!

Vixxfacee · 25/09/2016 22:10

I have told everyone not to buy me any clothes (only white baby grows if anything)!

I am so fussy about clothing which I know isn't the most important thing to worry about.

I think I will stick to 6 then!

MagpieCursedTea · 26/09/2016 09:15

It's really difficult to judge beforehand what sizes to get. I had GD last time as well and was expecting a massive baby because that's what everyone told me would happen. DS was 6lb 3oz and didn't get into 0-3 clothes until he was nearly 3 months. He was in tiny baby and up to one month for ages. We had mad dashes to buy smaller clothes after he was born.
I'm just going to take a range of baby clothes to the hospital this time and leave most in the car!

hels18 · 26/09/2016 09:40

Thanks guys, we've had a really good chat and she seems to be in a good place now and focusing on the next few months. I don't want to tiptoe around her (she doesn't want that either) but will have to be way more aware of her feelings over the next few weeks.

I have bought lots of white basic baby grows and sleep suits, and have bought a few nicer unisex things in 0-3 and also 3-6 to be prepared. I don't have anything in newborn sizes as have no idea how big baby will be so don't want them to go to waste! Family can always nip out when baby is here if I need anything, and online shopping is amazing now.

The only things I have left to get are things like the baby bouncer, sleepyhead, sleeping bags, room thermometer and baby monitor. I'm going to choose which ones are best for us, then send the list to family, as they have all requested to buy things for the baby and none of these are too pricey. I want to avoid too much clothing as gifts, as I'll end up with so much stuff that doesn't get worn (and I'm a little fussy and not particularly keen on lots of pattern and bright colour on kids clothes!)
