Dark hearing the heartbeat is definitely one of the pregnancy highlights. I've got my midwife appointment next week and looking forward to that!

Tabitha I'm on the FB group but I still hang around here too. Although, if you're concerned about people seeing you're in the FB group they won't as its a secret group so doesn't show up at all.

Jodie1982 · 21/07/2016 18:55

In my area they don't check heartbeat at 16wk antenatal anymore Sad

Tabitha78 · 21/07/2016 18:58

Magpie - it's more who's in the group! Someone at work is due the same month so don't want to risk being spotted by her if she happens to be on here!

MagpieCursedTea · 21/07/2016 21:06

Haha fair enough Tabitha!

Jodie I've heard a couple of people say they didn't get Doppler scans at the 16 week appointment. I hope mine will do it! I wonder why some have stopped doing it?

OP posts:
DarkLikeVader · 21/07/2016 21:08

I think it's because they don't always find the heartbeat and don't want to unnecessarily alarm pregnant women. Was lovely to hear though, I took DD with me and she was grinning to hear it. It was so loud!

Admarks · 21/07/2016 21:27

I'm on the fb group and also here, but only seem to have the energy to read the posts and not contribute much! When does the 'blooming' and full of energy stage come?!?

EDD was moved forward at my 12 week scan to 30/12 and so I feel a bit like an imposter here, but actually feel more at home on this thread than the December thread as they all seem so much ahead of me (20 week scans are coming in thick and fast)!

Had my 16 week appointment on Monday and my area also do not test for foetal heartbeat. She gave the same reasons as darth said above, apparently it's in the Nice guidelines. She could see i was visibly upset and worried (I've turned into an emotional, paranoid wreck)... So she got the Doppler out (and found the heartbeat). So, there is no harm in asking even if they do not routinely do this in your area I think!

Admarks · 21/07/2016 21:28

Dark not darth (sorry!!)

EvansAndThePrince · 21/07/2016 22:10

Tabitha if you want me to check a name I can!

Jodie1982 · 21/07/2016 22:24

EvansAndThePrince did you get my PM with email?

Astro86 · 21/07/2016 22:36

I know this won't be thing for most of you (yet!) but it's the last day of term tomorrow! No More School Run!!! Woo!!! This last week has been torture, DS is so exhausted we've had sobbing tantrums and my back and pelvis are screaming in pain by the walk home. But just knowing I don't need to drag myself out of the house when I just want to nap/concentrate on not throwing up, is such a relief!!

My heat induced grumpiness has been massively outweighed by really feeling the baby move. If I lie in a certain position I get a swift nudge until I move. (I tested it last night by repeatedly laying that way and it happened every time, trapped wind isn't that consistent!). I'd forgotten how odd it is at this stage where I can feel quite strong movements inside but they're not strong enough to feel from the outside.

Someone mentioned codeine further up, I was prescribed it when pregnant with DS but they've changed the recommendations lots recently so it's likely different. It's strange, post pregnancy I can't take anything with codeine as I get full spacey, dancing pink elephants, side effects. This is despite being on codeine based meds for years before having DS!

Jodie1982 · 24/07/2016 12:41

I still haven't been added to fb group. I pm'd Evans my email few days ago. 😕

MagpieCursedTea · 25/07/2016 07:13

Jodie have you heard anything yet? I can ask Evans if you like?

Astro enjoy your break from the school run. DS starts nursery in September so I've got all that to look forward to!

After a break from my sickness, it seems to be making a come back in the last couple of days. I'm nearly 17 weeks, what's that all about?

oliveoil36 · 25/07/2016 07:21

Hi there- can I join? 10th Jan EDD fir my second. Have a two year old so am absolutely exhausted- can't remember feeling so tired the first time round !!Confused

MagpieCursedTea · 25/07/2016 08:06

Welcome oliveoil! I also have a 2 year old and it's definitely more exhausting!

OP posts:
oliveoil36 · 25/07/2016 09:16

Thanks - I'm so grumpy! As I'm off for the summer holidays (work 3 days)I've become full time mum again! All child care has ceased as I can now do it myself as I am off!! Can't wait to get back to work for a break. Sounds very bad to even say it but I feel like I haven't even thought about being pregnant...apart from when I sneeze, then those pains remind me that I am! Ha.

Jodie1982 · 25/07/2016 09:59

Hi magpie still not heard anything from fb group. It would be great if you could ask EvansAndThePrince.
Thank you

SunCrusHH · 26/07/2016 08:11

Hello!!sorry I'm on the FB group and I have sort of stopped posting here. I will get my act togther! Not much to report from me. 15 weeks .... How did that happen?! Midwife next week. No idea if they check the heartbeat in my area or not. I hope so! We have told people now as well so it's nice not having to lie. I have lost about 7lbs since I found out I'm pregnant but I can feel my uterus starting to pop up! Luckily I'm still in my normal clothes but probably only have a few more weeks!!

CarrotVan · 26/07/2016 09:21

They don't check for the heartbeat at 16 weeks here any more apparently. I might ask though

I'm really struggling with clothes. Some people know at work but I want to tell my direct reports personally and I've got people on leave, then I'm on leave so it's hard to find the right time!

Hanbeth84 · 26/07/2016 14:49

Hi, can I join please? EDD is the 26th January. I'm 32 and this is the first baby for me and my partner. Until the scan last week I still felt like I was imagining it all as was unexpected and rather odd timing. Very happy though and also very nervous. Lovely to see it's little heart beating away and we even got a wave.

DarkLikeVader · 26/07/2016 15:01

Hi & welcome Hanbeth! Sounds like a good scan with the waving!

It's nice to see some people here again - I thought everyone had gone off to FB! I had a weird moment this morning: I had a missed call on my phone, checked the number and it was the pregnancy ultrasound department of my local hospital. Called them back and they said they hadn't called and if they had it would have shown as a withheld number anyway! So how and why did their number show up on my phone? there was no message either. I have an appointment for my 20 week scan on 15th August and they confirmed that hadn't changed. Very strange.

hels18 · 26/07/2016 15:16

Hello again, I am finally resurfacing after a terrible week or so of sickness. Had to cave in and go to the doctors for some anti nausea medicine as it had been 5 days and I couldn't hold down any solid food. It's finally lifting during the day, but the evenings are still bad for me. I also developed a really bad throat due to the sickness, so pretty much lost my voice and constantly seem to be coughing. I feel like such a pregnant wuss!

Cramming my diet full of veggies during the day when I can eat though, I am so paranoid baby isn't getting it's nutrients!

peonylover22 · 26/07/2016 17:04

Poor you hels, I hope you feel better soon.

I had my 16 week midwife today. They don't normally check the heartbeat in my area, but I asked nicely if they would give it a go (on a promise not to get upset if they couldn't find it). I said I knew they were very busy and that there was a chance that I wouldn't hear anything, but it would mean a lot to me if she tried. So she gave it a go and found it straight away! So it is definitely worth asking!

MagpieCursedTea · 26/07/2016 17:30

Peony glad you got to hear the heartbeat, hoping I get the same tomorrow!

Hels you don't sound like a wuss at all! Sounds like you've been having a really bad time, I hope it improves some more soon.

Dark how strange! Maybe someone called by mistake but that doesn't explain how the number showed up.

Hanbeth welcome! Glad your scan went well. It makes it all seem more real doesn't it?

Carrot I've struggled with the timing of telling people too. One of my Aunties is still cross with me because I told the other one first! Do you have any team meetings coming up where you can tell people together and then maybe call anyone who is on leave? Or pop in during your leave? That might be a hassle though if you end up being at work when you're on leave!

Sun it does seem to be going quickly,
especially since the scans are done!

I've got my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow (when I'll be 17 weeks). I know not much will happen but it feels like the next milestone!

SunCrusHH · 26/07/2016 17:46

I think I will ask the midwife to check. No cheek no chance and all that!!

AspiringMother · 26/07/2016 19:39

Was hoping that I could be added to the list. 28th Jan 2017. Smile
