Thinking of you Emma 💐

CarrotVan · 11/07/2016 09:03

So sorry Emma - I really hope you get well looked after

CarrotVan · 11/07/2016 11:56

I have my first 'official' scan first thing tomorrow and am weirdly nervous. I've been having stomach problems for the last week or so (digestive pains whenever I eat) and I've been busily panicking myself

GingerIdiot · 11/07/2016 12:20

Ditto, CarrotVan, my 12 week scan is tomorrow morning (though I did also have scans at nearly 5 weeks and 7 weeks). I'm excited, nervous, and have also convinced myself of some bizarre things - I've accidentally faked the whole thing! I'm actually 6 months along! etc etc...

Can those who have already had them tell me a couple of (less ridiculous) things? I've already had my blood tests so I know they will give me the results tomorrow. Do they work out a number of Downs, Edwards etc and tell you that, or do they just say you do or don't need further testing? And roughly how long does the whole scan last for? In case it's different in different areas, mine is a combined dating and nuchal scan.

Wishing anyone else in this group still waiting for their scan, all the best...

CarrotVan · 11/07/2016 12:30

15-20 minutes for the scan IIRC. I have bloods on the same day as they do the scan and get a letter a week or say later saying low risk or get a phone call to come in for further tests

MagpieCursedTea · 11/07/2016 12:37

Good luck with the scans Carrot and Ginger!
I got a letter with my test results telling me I was low risk then giving that risk in numbers. The scan lasted about 20 mins I think but baby was perfectly in position. DS's took longer as it required me to do a lot of jiggling!

Hello all. After a week or so away on holiday, I came back to work with a bump this morning when the tube barriers closed on me. Was totally winded and in quite a bit of pain, so went to the nearest EPU to get checked over. They were amazing and scanned me pretty much straight away. Luckily all is fine and baby dated at exactly 12 weeks (thought I was 12+3 so added a few days back on). New DD is 23 January.

While I was there, the baby was in a good position so they decided to do the nuchal scan and run my bloods. The results were back within an hour and I'm a low risk luckily. My official 12 week scan at my local hospital is next week, and although they will still scan, they won't need to run the tests again.

My symptoms have been tailing off, and I definitely have not been so sick in the evenings, although still only really hungry at lunch times. Am still tired, but I am thinking of braving the gym again later this week to build my strength up again.

Am still catching up on the latest threads, but best wishes to you Emma.

Tabitha78 · 11/07/2016 20:39

Good luck for the upcoming scans! I've got mine next Monday (12+2) with screening bloods this Thursday. Hopefully screening comes back okay and we can start to tell people. All this lying is starting to get to me!

Not looking forward to telling work as I got my BFP very soon after starting a new job, but once DP said he was keen to start trying I didn't want to wait, especially given my advanced years (in conceiving terms)!

Tabitha78 · 11/07/2016 20:40

P.s. Anyone else had the heartburn kick in? It's killing me!

MoodyOne · 11/07/2016 21:35

Hey! I am new and I am hoping I can join, I'm 12 weeks and 5 days pregnant (due 18th Jan) just got our scan done today and it was amazing xx

DarkLikeVader · 11/07/2016 21:44

Welcome MoodyOne! Smile

Duckyneedsaclean · 11/07/2016 23:24

Blimey hels, glad the EPU was so good!

And yes to the heartburn, Tabitha. It's evil. I'm glugging away at the gaviscon for now, but eyeing up a ranitidine prescription for when things get really bad!

MagpieCursedTea · 12/07/2016 07:11

Hels that sounds scary but so glad the EPU were so great!

Tabitha best of luck with the scan and with telling work! I was having heartburn but since being diagnosed with GD and having to change my diet it's been a lot better. I think too many carbs were the culprit for me!

Moody welcome!

Good luck for scans today carrot and ginger!

SunCrusHH · 12/07/2016 08:26

12+2 here. Scan in 2 days. Only symptoms are exhaustion and constipation Blush. No bump and starting to worry I have made the whole Thing up and the scan won't find anything...must get a grip!!!

Good luck for the scans today ladies!!!

CarrotVan · 12/07/2016 12:00

Scan was fine when they eventually found someone qualified to do it. It's been a very stressful morning. Next appointments all sorted for 16 and 20 wks (scan) and also one at 34 wks to discuss planned section decision.

Very wriggly baby!

MagpieCursedTea · 12/07/2016 12:41

Having to wait around at a scan for someone qualified to do it doesn't sound like fun. I've got visions of a receptionist trying to scan you!
Good news on the wriggly baby though Smile

OP posts:
GingerIdiot · 12/07/2016 12:48

Everything fine at my scan too! We saw it wriggling about, and its hands and toes, and little heart. Estimated due date is now the 21st Jan (it's grown!) and our Downs risk was 1 in 5000 so no need for further tests :0)

So pleased yours went well too Carrot, staffing aside!

Duckyneedsaclean · 12/07/2016 13:33

I've been buying baby stuff on amazon prime day Blush. It's really too early!

Duckyneedsaclean · 12/07/2016 13:35

Mind you, they said I should be ready for labour at any point from 33 weeks (hopefully 37/38!). So that's only 19 weeks away!

MagpieCursedTea · 12/07/2016 13:48

Ooh what did you buy Ducky?

Great news Ginger!

My Downs syndrome risk was around 1/500 which was classed as low risk but seems much higher than everyone else's I've seen. I wonder why that is?

OP posts:
GingerIdiot · 12/07/2016 13:54

My risk was put at 1 in 250 because of my age (I'll be 37 when the baby is born) but then adding in the two blood tests, nuchal translucency, and I think she mentioned smoking and weight, it went right down to 1 in 5000, which really shocked me ... I was hoping for good news of around 1 in 300 or so. I don't know what the two blood tests measure or how they figures are affected (I mean I can see the words on my notes but I really don't understand the terms!). 1 in 500 is still a really good outcome :0)

Duckyneedsaclean · 12/07/2016 15:28

I got a set with 8 bottles, steam steriliser, 2 insulated bottle bags, 6 powder dispensers, & bottle warmer for 40 quid! I'm waiting on a perfect prep machine...

I breastfed ds 1&2 but want to be prepared for if when it doesn't work with two!

SunCrusHH · 12/07/2016 17:37

I'm determined not to buy anything until 20 weeks!!

SunCrusHH · 12/07/2016 17:38

Will probably fail miserably and go crazy after my scan Blush
