I think the glitter wee may have made my day!

I am (yet again) asking for advice ... I have 6 days to go until my scan and have got myself into a bit of a state. I think this might be my first proper moment of 'mood swings' but I just feel awful - really teary, frustrated, sad etc. Partly work worries (ah the joys of self-employment when you're pregnant!) and partly feeling particularly pregnant and still not able to talk to people about it, and needing to hide my bump for another week.

I had one scan at 5 weeks (because of pain), and another at 7 weeks and could see a heartbeat and the embryo in the right place. I THINK this makes our chances of things being ok next week a bit higher - my belly is also growing and nausea has just come back with a vengeance - but I'm finding it so hard to get out of my head that it might not be ok, and I have another 6 days of this. Help! Is there anyway to reassure yourself? I'm guessing not as the reality is, I don't actually know and can't know if it's ok or not until then.

(I'm going to post with cheery stuff/ helpful to others stuff soon, I promise!)

Duckyneedsaclean · 06/07/2016 16:37

Ah GingerIdiot, I think everyone worries like that. But you've got all the signs of everything being ok - a bump, sickness, and you've seen the heartbeat! You will both be fine!

Whenever I have a moan, my mum says take every bit of nausea and tiredness as a good sign.

GingerIdiot · 06/07/2016 17:03

Thanks Ducky. Yes, I keep trying to think logically, I have lots of symptoms, all signs are good, so the chances are everything is fine. Roll on next week!

hopingandwaiting · 06/07/2016 17:05

Nausea seems to be abating a little this week (11weeks today) but I'm still very tired and have backache. Have been getting some sharpish pains low down in my tummy today. Am thinking it's probably just everything shuffling about and growing and stretching (still makes me nervous though, but then I have been worrying about everything!) Had to put the scan back a few days due to work commitments so it's not until 19th - am very excited, but also terrified at the same time!

SunCrusHH · 06/07/2016 17:33

Ladies I'm 11 + 5 and I'm not sure if it's bloat but my belly is def getting a bigger. Surely this is too early for baby no1 to be showing? I'm still exercising and haven't increased my food intake. Interestingly I weighed the same this morning as I did pre pregnancy. I was hoping to keep it under wraps until 16 weeks!! It's bloat yeah??!!

peonylover22 · 06/07/2016 22:28

Suncrushh this is my first baby too and I've had something - bloating? biscuit belly? baby bump? - since around week 10. I was NOT expecting to see anything so early, I'd been told that I wouldn't show until at least 16 weeks so it was a big shock! I've managed to keep up good levels of exercise and really haven't been much piggier than normal, but alas weighed in at 4.5kg heavier at my booking in appointment at 11 weeks Confused Was weighed again at scan yesterday (13+1) and no further increase. Very strange!

SunCrusHH · 07/07/2016 08:05

I'm really struggling with constipation and I wonder if that is causing it? I did manage to get things moving last night but tummy still looks like it's got some little bump there. I'm wearing loose fitting clothes at work now to hide it. Maybe I'm just being paranoid and it's only noticeable to me!

SunCrusHH · 07/07/2016 08:06

Also remember your boobs weigh more so weight gain isn't all in the belly Smile

MagpieCursedTea · 07/07/2016 08:30

I'm getting constipation too. It was the opposite in my last pregnancy. I can't decide which is worse!

OP posts:
CarrotVan · 07/07/2016 08:58

At around week 12 your uterus starts to move upwards from behind your pelvis and then you start to develop more of a bump

www.pregnancy-weekbyweek.com/pregnancy-week-12.htm

And yes to constipation which is also causing stomach ache.

SunCrush make sure you drink lots and lots of water to help with the bloat

GingerIdiot · 07/07/2016 09:35

You're not alone early bump-ers! Since 9 weeks I've had a definite small bump going on, especially later in the day when it's accompanied by bloating. But even without, I can't do my clothes up and am having to hide it in big old shirts! I had assumed all of that started around the 3-4 month mark but apparently anywhere between 8 and 16 weeks is common, and if you're on the slim side it shows up much earlier (the opposite of what I had assumed but apparently true!).

heybaby1 · 07/07/2016 16:55

Just had my 12 week scan (seemingly a little early! My new due date is 23.1.17) and all seems well, thank goodness. I had a miscarriage scare in week 9 - late on a Friday night I lost what I thought was about a pint of blood/clots and rushed off to A&E where the doc said it was probably a miscarriage, but I should get a private scan the following day to make sure (before flying abroad on the Sunday!). Though expensive (about £150 at the Women's Wellness Centre in central London) the service was incredible - and I was blown away to see there was still a little person in there! They had no idea what had happened to me, but all looked absolutely fine and normal! I lost a tiny bit of blood over the following few days and that was it.

Four things I have learnt which might help people:

1. Private scans are INCREDIBLE! 3D and detailed and they give you as many as you like, via email as well as the little print-offs. The quality difference between those and the NHS ones from this morning are remarkable. I would consider getting one later on in my pregnancy out of pure fascination.

2. Losing blood during your pregnancy is very normal, but of course if something happens and you are worried you should go to A&E. The private midwife said "oh I bled the whole way through my pregnancy with twins and it was absolutely fine!" Why is this not spoken about more??!

3. Miscarriages are extremely common. You have a 1 in 5 chance before 12 weeks, it seems. Again, people don't talk about this enough.

  1. The NHS is wonderful. We are so lucky. This is my first pregnancy and I am just so impressed with the whole process so far.

I hope this helps someone. Smile

PippaRose · 07/07/2016 18:59

heybaby1 you have had a tough time of it, glad to see all ok and fingers crossed for a stress free remainder of pregnancy.

I really agree about the nhs, been great with quick appointments, lots of info and things like the free prescriptions and dental treatment.

I'm another who has had the dreaded bloat, am sure I can feel tiny hard bump below though, especially first thing.

swancourt · 07/07/2016 20:08

Been away - trying to catch up on the thread. So sorry to those of you feeling sick. I am 14+4 and beginning to feel better again. I still have nausea but it's gone back to mornings and evenings, and I like food again (but still not tea). I'm shattered. But there's light at the end of the tunnel for most if not all of you!

I have a big, very obvious bump. It's my third baby. there's a mum at school due a couple of weeks before me and she also has a bump - it's also her third :)

swancourt · 07/07/2016 20:23

Wait a minute - 14+5!

SBSparkles · 08/07/2016 08:27

Hi everyone! I'm actually on the feb thread but as I'm due at the very beginning of feb I thought I might ask a question here if that's ok? I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and this past week have seen my nausea all but disappear as well as my extreme fatigue subside. I am really moody and have itchy boobs but that's sort of it. (Oh and a uti!!) is this normal for the Ms to stop this early? I can't stop worrying about a mmc!! Thanks and I hope you are doing well!!! Xx

MagpieCursedTea · 08/07/2016 08:29

Hi Sparkles I think it varies depending on the woman and individual pregnancy. The placenta starts to take over at that point though which explains why you might be feeling a bit better. I'd say try not to worry but I know it's difficult not to!

OP posts:
GingerIdiot · 08/07/2016 09:15

Hi Sparkles my nausea went at 10 weeks ... then came storming back worse at 11 weeks! It's probably just a respite, or better still, a nice early end to MS, so I would ignore, especially if you have no negative symptoms :0)

SBSparkles · 08/07/2016 10:07

Thanks ladies!! I'm stupidly hormonal so I suppose that's still a good symptom!! (Well not good but you know what I mean!!) it's good the symptoms have eased as we are driving and ferrying over to Ireland tonight!!

MagpieCursedTea · 08/07/2016 10:34

That wouldn't have been fun with nausea, hope you have a good trip!

OP posts:
SBSparkles · 08/07/2016 11:47

Thanks! Spoke too soon! Nausea is back but it might be the antibiotics I'm on for Urine infection! Oh the joys!! Xx

Duckyneedsaclean · 08/07/2016 17:17

Always the way, sparkles!

I think I might be feeling the first flutters Confused. I'm only 14 weeks tomorrow!

MagpieCursedTea · 08/07/2016 17:26

Ducky I've been getting flutters for a few days, they started at 15/16 weeks with DS but it still seems early!

OP posts:
SunCrusHH · 08/07/2016 17:42

I'm on the 6 day scan count down. Feel like i can't get excited until then ....! Roll on next week. Feeling soooo nervous!

peonylover22 · 08/07/2016 19:36

So exciting about the flutters! I have just bought my first ever maternity clothes: a denim skirt and a black pencil skirt from Seraphine. Also pretty exciting!

I've been getting some uncomfortable but not agonising pains above the right hip in the last few days. Could this be round ligament pain? It has been off and on, it's like I've pulled a muscle and I feel it most when I have just turned over in bed.

Does anybody know when you should start looking at nurseries in London? I don't think we will want to start until September 2017 which is ages and ages away, but I don't want to bumble along in blissful ignorance and find that we've missed the boat...
