Wow, that's an efficient booking, carrotvan! It can be so hard to get referrals.

I realised over the weekend that after the booking appt/scan when they discovered twins no one had told me when next to be seen - and non first timers aren't generally seen until 25 weeks here! Managed to get through to Antenatal and they booked me in the multiple clinic this Wednesday.

Imagine if I'd not chased it up!

MagpieCursedTea · 04/07/2016 17:14

Charmingly hope the scan goes well! Morning sickness really does take it out of you. I'm 13+5 and it's not as bad as it was but still getting waves of nausea. Unimpressed!

Carrot that sounds very thorough! I love the feeling of getting the notes.

Ducky it's lucky you chased it up! I was told to book an appointment with the midwife again at 16 weeks (although couldn't fit it in until 17 weeks) and this is my second. I know there are meant to be less appointments the second time around but not sure which one we don't get here. I don't mind though, I had 4 pregnancy related appointments last week!

I'm seeing the consultant and MW when I have my 12 week scan and then I'll be seen again at 16 weeks. It's my second

GingerIdiot · 04/07/2016 18:00

Hi all,

So nice, interesting and helpful to read everyone's messages - and so sorry to those who have had bad news recently.

I haven't posted on here in ages (foolishly awaiting an answer to a question on the last thread then belatedly realised it closed at 1000 posts - I swear I used to be intelligent pre-pregnancy). I've since had my booking appointment and now have one week to go until my 12 week scan. I have a few questions, if anyone has a minute...

From my booking appointment I've been referred to an obstetrician because I have endometriosis and last year had surgery for it. At the moment my birth choices have been put down as tbc (ideally I want the local birth centre but am wondering if they might make me go to the delivery suite instead). Does anyone else have endo, or had a similar referral, or given birth relatively recently after surgery? I'm seeing the OB in August so I know they can answer these questions then too but forewarned is forearmed, and all that!

I've also been referred to the perinatal mental health midwife team because of a past history of anorexia. I've been well for 7 years and haven't encountered problems since then - in fact I've been the healthiest I've ever been - but when the midwife asked how I was now I was honest and said I was slightly struggling with the bodily changes (I was NOT ready for a bump at 9 weeks!). I think the referral was a given due to my past though I do feel a bit fraudulent now. If anyone else has had a similar referral for past stuff, I'd love to hear from you.

A bump at 9 weeks - why does no one warn you! I'm 11 weeks now and am having to get very creative with undone trousers and clothing...

One final thing - I've been feeling so optimistic about the pregnancy, particularly having seen a healthy heartbeat at 7 weeks, but now the scan is approaching the doubts are coming back and I've got the fear I've told too many people, made too many plans, got too excited etc. I've had no bad symptoms, no bleeding, my bump is growing, I feel sick as hell ... but the worry is normal, right?

Duckyneedsaclean · 04/07/2016 18:27

Carrot Magpie I did think it was odd to cut out the 16week appt for second time or subsequent mothers - but hey ho. In fact my notes say that appt is only "to check the heart and lungs of mothers who haven't given birth in the uk before". Not to check the baby at all. I guess that's cuts for you!

Ginger The worry is completely normal! I think the time between sickness wearing off and starting to feel kicks is the worst for worries! Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about endo will be along.

MagpieCursedTea · 04/07/2016 19:03

Ginger I can't help with the endo question sorry, I hope someone will be along soon who can. As for the mental health stuff, it's because pregnancy can be a higher risk period for relapses in mental health problems so they'll just monitor you and offer support if and when it's needed. I'm under the perinatal mental health team too. I had an appointment with the psychiatrist last week and he was lovely and supportive.
The scan worry is totally normal! Hope it all goes well for you!

Ducky I find it so strange how much things can vary in different areas, especially as they're all meant to follow the same guidelines!

Astro86 · 04/07/2016 20:51

I don't know what happened but i seem to have developed a proper bump overnight (instead of 'hmm that could be just biscuits)! I'm sure I was getting some sideways looks during today's school runs.

Yesterday we were given a cot! I had a good half hour of 'we're having a another baby! Are we crazy?!' strange that a piece of furniture can make the reality hit almost as much as the scan did.

Still get a 16wk appointment here even though it's my second, I got the impression this was my midwifes policy rather than a local policy! Didn't get a bounty pack or blue folder this time though, just a my notes booklet.

Bex134 · 05/07/2016 05:41

It's interesting the differences in area, I had my booking in at 6 weeks which felt way too early and the folders been in the cupboard since!

We have the scan next week and I really can't wait. As times getting nearer I'm getting more unsure about having the nucal fold tests etc done. I don't want to worry myself with the vague percentages they give but i still feel I should have this done. Would appreciate a few comments with how you thought about this. Smile

MagpieCursedTea · 05/07/2016 08:03

Bex I decided to go ahead with the nuchal testing as I'd rather have as much information as possible. I'm not sure if I could go through with an amino though (although I appreciate I wouldn't know what I'd do until I was in that particular situation) so it did make me think twice about whether to have the nuchal testing in the first place. In the end though, I decided I might as well know what my risks are as it means if there is a potential issue, the doctors are aware of that. Waiting on the results now!

SunCrusHH · 05/07/2016 08:21

Hi everyone! Loving all the scan photos. We have just over a week to go until ours. Terrified!!! We have also opted to do all the screening. I think it's always best to be prepared and knowledge is power and all that. If an issue comes up then we would discuss things further is our plan.

Duckyneedsaclean · 05/07/2016 08:28

TMI alert!

Ohhh gawd I woke up at 4am with stomach pain, and I think most have food poisoning. I've thrown up 5 times since then and gone to the loo 8 times. Sad

Just waiting for gp to open so I can phone! Does anyone know if you can take immodium while pregnant?

I'm starting to feel faint with it.

MagpieCursedTea · 05/07/2016 08:37

Oh no Ducky, that sounds awful Sad no idea about the Imodium. Hope you can get hold of the GP quickly. Get well soon!

BonesyBones · 05/07/2016 09:32

Hi everyone can I join? Had first scan last week and am 14+1 today with 3rd DC. Due date 2nd January.

Finally getting past the sickness but it's been replaced by some hugely uncomfortable hip/back/leg pain which I seriously hope doesn't stick around!

Haven't gotten through reading the bulk of the thread yet but hope everyone's doing well.

Duckyneedsaclean · 05/07/2016 09:44

Thanks Magpie, GP said to just ride it out. Weighed myself, I've lost over a kilo this morning! DH has just returned with lucozade.

Welcome BonesyBones!

CarrotVan · 05/07/2016 10:04

Bex - in our area they don't give you 1/1500 type risks just high or low

Ducky - you can take rehydration salts, if you're throwing up too then cheap lemonade is pretty good or lemon barley water

MagpieCursedTea · 05/07/2016 10:28

Welcome Bonesy! You're a couple of days ahead of me and I've been getting pelvic/hip pain too. It's not very nice but I've found sitting on my yoga ball helps a bit.

Hello to all the newbies!

Am back after a few days heaving and hurling Envy (

peonylover22 · 05/07/2016 18:07

Just had my NHS scan! All fine and I am getting properly excited now. Smile They confirmed dating as 13+1 and due date as 9 January.

I didn't need to have a full bladder and the scan took quite a long time - about 30 minutes I think. Lots of measurements and counting of feet.

I brought along my panorama test results (all less than 0.01% risk), so they decided to skip the blood test screening as panorama is more accurate than the test offered by the NHS.

PippaRose · 05/07/2016 19:21

willoughbywolf sorry to hear you have been feeling rubbish, I had the same as you this week when I went for my scan on what I thought was 12+2 but was dated 11+1.

I'm going back next week and was told dates were probably out or I ovulated a bit late, could be the same for you?

MagpieCursedTea · 05/07/2016 21:14

Wil my first scan dated me at 10+5 but was told dating wasn't as accurate that early (even though it matched my ovulation dates). I had to go back exactly 2 weeks later for nuchal testing (like you my first scan was too early) and I was dated as 13+1, so 3 days difference. She said that scans can be out by 5 days either side. So in short, nothing to worry about!

Peony glad the scan went well!

willoughbywolf · 05/07/2016 22:09

Thanks both, I'm feeling better about it now. Baby was dancing a little jig with a fine strong heartbeat so all good there, although my hopes of having a lethargic one this time around are fast diminishing (DS starting combat-crawling at 5 months and now runs and jumps and climbs and swings from 6am til 8pm without so much as a catnap, all whilst chattering constantly. When I've courted DM for sympathy she just laughs in a gleeful, somewhat karmic way that suggests I did the same to her once upon a time).

Ducky just read your posts and that sounds utterly horrendous; hope you've started to feel a bit more human already, if it's any consolation it sounds like your system is getting rid of the nasties with ruthless efficiency!

Have you tried flat coke? I had horrible food poisoning abroad when I was little and a doctor staying at the same hotel as my family recommended it; have heard it mentioned quite a bit since so there must be something in it. Also I've found flat coke easier on an empty stomach than fizzy Lucozade when the morning sickness has been really bad (and oddly less likely to be thrown up than plain water).

Mind you, my late granddad swore that lemon barely water was a cure for all ailments Grin

Duckyneedsaclean · 05/07/2016 22:58

Thanks willoughbywolf. I'm actually at a&e having had some anti-sickness & a litre of iv fluids, I do now feel a bit more human!

SunCrusHH · 06/07/2016 08:08

Oh no!! Hope you feel better soon!!

Duckyneedsaclean · 06/07/2016 08:53

Much better today, ds2's nursery is shut for eid but my mum has come to my rescue!

IV fluid is amazing btw

Jodie1982 · 06/07/2016 14:56

duckyI hope your better asap. Sounds awful!
