Interesting conversation re buggies... I have been struggling with this myself. I cant decide whether to get a double buggy or make do with my travel system for when J is at nursery and then use the Maclaren XT for J at weekends adn get a papouse for the baby. But i am rather taken by the Urban Detour 3 wheeler twin.

Welcome to JBB

I might be going to London tomorrow and am thinking of bypassing Harrods to get KK's for everyone.......... whadda ya think?

Pebblemum · 19/01/2007 19:16

Im back!!!

I have thought about what i will do should ds1's grandparents want to resume contact. I think i would let ds1 decide for himself as he is 9yrs old and i think he is able to make the right decision to suit him. First though i would want an explanation as to why they stopped writing/visiting in the first place because up until then they had played an active role in ds1's life. When i split up with their son i would still be invited to theirs for weekends or day trips and they would come to us and ds1 received cards/presents every christmas and birthday. They were even invited to my wedding ffs. They knew i would never stop them keeping in touch (they had already lost touch with another grandson and i knew how much that hurt them)yet they suddenly ceased all contact just like that so an explanation would definately be wanted. What made it worse was they always hated the way their son had walked out on ds1 yet they did the same thing 4yrs later

Im not sure whether ds1 would agree to keep in touch with them or not but if i thought it was something he wanted (and they would stick to it)then i would encourage it for his sake. Now if his dad wanted to suddenly get in touch, that would be a different matter although i think ds1 would turn round and tell him where to go anyway I just hate the thought he could find out where we live just by using the net {{shudder}} Its also scary to find out that he is living in the next town to us where i often go shopping, not that he would recognise ds1, i mean he has changed a lot since he was 1 and i hope i have too (well im definatly fatter at the mo lol)

On a nicer subject, i think i have chosen my pram, all ive got to do is convince dh that spending £350 on it is a good idea. MIL has said she will buy us one so maybe we can go halfs which wont be so bad. I also cant decide what colour i want or if i want a leatherette one but i quite like the biege/ivory colours. I did try to do a link but for some reason it wouldnt work. The pram is a babystyle lux 3in1. I know its not a well known brand but i had a friend with one and it was lovely plus this being my last child i think i deserve to have what i want

Lupins - sorry to hear about your tooth - I snapped the front of a side tooth off completely the last week of term trying to open a pot of glue for the children. Dentist did a temporary job with no injection or anything to last until after the baby is born.. lasted all of a week so went back and another dentist put a white filling over the top but did give me a local injection as she drilled away some of the amalgam. More painful but at least it's lasted.

Can I ask for advice on buggies? I don't need a double - DS will be 4.5 and DD nearly 7 but it's a long time since I bought one - 2001 I think so I have no idea now what's any good - was thinking of a fairly rugged 3 wheeler as we have a disused railway behind us which the children use in the summer to get to school.
Will be used for school runs and needs to go in the back of the Zafira we are just about to buy to fit 3 children in. I used Kiddicare last time to buy from.

TYG - thanks for the tips re veruccas - DD is 6 but a complete wimp with any pain - but if you only need to do it once... it's in an awkward place on the side of her heel - how she got it there I don't know! - which rubs on her shoe.

Hope everyone has a good weekend - we are looking at cars - what joy with two children in tow and meeting the builder for a final quote (gulp).

JonahB · 19/01/2007 21:12

Lupins, sorry to hear about your tooth. I can?t give you any advice as I am absolutely phobic about dentists. I have a lovely dentist who is incredibly good with nervous patients (include my DH here). Let me tell you what a star he is. He told us to bring DS on any visit. So, DH took DS yesterday. The dentist didn?t look in DS?s mouth. He just let him wander around the room and touch things, he blew up a glove with his air-blowing machine, drew a silly face on it, sang bob the builder to him (DS had the toy version in his hand). When DH was being treated, DS was sprawled across his legs, lying with his head on DH?s stomach. All so the ?dentist visit? wouldn?t become a place of fear for a toddler. AND all on the NHS. I am so impressed!

FSF ? thanks for the advice. I was thinking about a buggy board, but at just under 2 years, I think I?m seriously pushing my luck.

LG&T ? I?ve just printed off the recipe, thanks. I?ll be making that tomorrow then?..Oh and I?m also looking at the Jane Powertwin as well. My big concern with the Phil&Ted buggy was when you strap the newborn underneath, the older child is sitting in the younger child?s seat up front. The max weight of that isn?t actually that much and I think my DS, at 2, will already be over the max weight. Has that been an issue for you?

Welcome Jelly!!

Lilkel, congrats on your pink variety!!!!

drkgpink · 20/01/2007 05:05

DOn't imagine there's any other insomniacs out there but I just thought I'd come on and catch up with the weeks news. I've had the cold that seems to have been going around everyone else, felt pretty rubbish. Also just found out that I've got to work a week of nights in feb at 28 weeks, boo!!!

On the plus side the nursery is decorated and when dh gets out of bed I'm going to set him on with curtain poles and shelves. getting exciting now. Also have just booke a little treat - an elemis pregnancy massage my friend had one and apparently it is fantastic. anyone else had one??

aprilmeadow · 20/01/2007 07:13

Drkgpink - not on line quite as early as you but am also suffering from insomnia at the moment. Yesterday i woke at 02.37 and didnt fall back to sleep. Was kind of in a clock watching sleep, not helped by the milkman arriving at 03.30 then another noise at about 5am then ds waking at 05.55, luckily dh got up with him. This morning was another early start, but didnt look at clock til 5.45.

Also got a really sore back at the moment and can sympathise with the others of you who are getting cramps in the night. Is anyone else finding themselves waking up lying on their back? I keep doing htis, and know that its 'naughty'. Any ideas on how to stop it?

Well that all sounds like a nice big moan!!

Did anyone else catch CBB last night? I did actually feel very sorry for Jade. Her face as the realisation set in said it all. I also watched Ugly Betty for the first time and think that might find a way into my regular tv viewing.

aprilmeadow · 20/01/2007 07:19

forgot to add drkgpink, am so that you have your nursery painted already! I have to have ours done by the 4th Feb as we using it for a project at work and need to have a blank canvas so that a mural can be painted on one of the walls the following week. I know that we only have to paint the walls in the Antique White i have chosen, but actually getting round to doing that is another matter. We work for an artist materials company who are launching a new range of interior paints and one of the sets we are creating happened to be for a nursery, how lucky is that. We will be having a watering hole theme going on with hopefully a hippo, flamingo and trees and monekys. Have asked for it to be as girly as possible. Then once it is done we will have some photos taken and hopefully it will end up in a magazine or two.

I guess there have to be some perks of being the PA at a design agency

The advert for my replacement got placed in our local paper yesterday, so its all starting to seem more real! I wonder what interesting applicants i will get this time round?

LupinsBigLump · 20/01/2007 09:01

Morning all - I have had the insomia too, luckily not last night but quite a few times already

Tooth is still intact, feels like it has moved more together again, might go to chemist and ask about that temporary filling stuff to patch it up, I am quite concerned about baby picking up on the stress and worry that going to the dentist will cause - only got to make it last 4 months then they can do what they like, am strong believer in babies being influenced but the feelings you have while they are inside

In do think Jade had no idea of her behaviour in the house - she did look quite appalled at it, still I think it will cause her alot of problems and she may learn something from it

Whats ev1 up to today, I am taking dd to krazy kids with a friend and her dd, then not alot, have good weekend ev1

Frenchsmallfry · 20/01/2007 10:17

Morning, god I hate ironing!!!!! Guesse what I'm doin today.

Not suffering with insomnia yet, thankfully, infact for me there are no enough minutes in bed, I could stay there and sleep all day. Made worse by the fact that I had to be at the lab, (20mins away) for 8.15 this morning for my gloucose test, didn't go well as I got half way there and realised I'd forgotten the prescription for it so had to go back. Then when I finally got there they decided that it was too early in my pg'cy to do it as I wasn't yet quite 6mths, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr why did my M/W book the appointment FFS. Sorry rant over but it really peed me off, going for no reason was one thing but at 8.15am on a Sat morning is another.

I didn't watch the interview with Jade last night it was just too late here for me. I would have really liked to see it but at 11.30pm, I'd never have made it through. I feel sorry for her, I don't think she is racist or meant it like that, she just has a big gob and doesn't think before she spits. Shame really I quite like her but I think this will ruin her. Bastard media!!

Hope you all have a nice weekend

Frenchsmallfry · 20/01/2007 11:22

I forgot to say,
AM I sleep on my back normally. Whist I'm pg, I tuck a pillow under my side to keep me at a slight angle. It's not too bad now at this stage being on your back, but certainly from about 30weeks the weight of the baby can make it difficult to breath when flat on back, causing dizzness etc..... I also use a V pillow which supports my shoulder blades so I am not completely flat, the pillow under my side gets swopped from left to right throughout the night much to the annoyance of DH.

aprilmeadow · 20/01/2007 11:27

trip to london has been scrapped so i'm going to have my hair cut and coloured instead

Thanks for the tip re pillows FSF. Will have a go at that tonight and see if i sleep any better. Enjoy your ironing

anneme · 20/01/2007 14:07

I wake up on my back and also on my side but almost front - was worrying about this and then decided that my body would naturally make me move if it were doing any harm.

My tummy has gone hairy.

I am an ape

AbbyLou · 20/01/2007 14:18

Hi everyone, just trying to catch up. I went to the midwife on Wednesday, lovely yo hear the heartbeat again. She said i was a 'nice size' - not quite sure what that means!! I mentioned the pain I've been having and she said it's definitely sciatica. She was very sympathetic and is attempting to get me referred for physio. She said aquanatal would help a lot butI don't think my boss will be convinced to let me out for an hour on a Friday afternoon - I'm a teacher. At least i know the mw has taken it seriously though.

As far as other things are concerned I feel well really. I feel saved really from the buggy debate. I have a Graco Tarvel System left from ds which I will have to use again as I don't think finances will stretch to a new one - dh has just started a new business. My sister is lending me her McLaren double as she will not need it any more by May.

aprilmeadow · 20/01/2007 14:34

anneme - i too have a slightly hairy belly. I had this with ds but it was much more and a lot darker, Dh was very amused by this ape type thing that we was married to!

aprilmeadow · 20/01/2007 14:36

FSF - how's the ironing coming along?

Frenchsmallfry · 20/01/2007 15:50

done just, god there was just soo much, annoying thing is that I have stuff on the airer and radiators drying that will create a new ironing pile. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

LupinsBigLump · 20/01/2007 16:22

I have been sleeping woth a pillow at my side propping up bump with leg over - seems to encourage me to stay off my back a bit

I dont really get an ironing pile as I just iron as we use - so will iron in the morning what dd ans I are wearing that day, dp works on building site so no point in ironing theose clothes, must say tho I used to charge people to do their ironing as I find it really relaxing

Have put some temp filling in tooth but not much use - has pushed crack further apart than ever, still I am managing my chocs today yipeeeee lifes not over yet

Frenchsmallfry · 20/01/2007 16:41

Lupins Lupins you are my new best friend. fancy doing my ironing?

Frenchsmallfry · 20/01/2007 16:42

In total shock. I am not ready to have pink in my house. Please tell me good things about girls (non-princessy, non-pink stories if you please!).

aprilmeadow · 20/01/2007 17:20

SOH, congratulations on your pink one. What a beautiful name you have chosen!!

Frenchsmallfry · 20/01/2007 17:37

oh thats great news SOH,
but don't do a no pink or girlie stuff on us. Girls are pink (ducking for cover) even if YOU are not very girly try to enjoy it for your little girls sake. Oh it's so exciting, dolls, tea trolleys, prettys, hair etc.... oh yes and girlie tantrums lol, mine has great ones already and she is only 18mths.

I have only been like this though since M came along, when I only had H I was a bit like "wouldn't know what to do with a girl, don't like pink etc..." Some madness took over me though and suddenly everything girlie and pink became so much fun. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she was such a suprise.

Like the name, glad to see you are claiming the MATHILDA race and making it known.
