aprilmeadow · 21/01/2007 08:40

Lupins, how's the tooth today?

moan alert Warning moan alert warning
Well another great (NOT) nigts sleep for me. If i manage to get comfy then the bloody wind wakes me up howling outside, but am actually struggling to get comfy. Tried sleeping on the v pillow and have pillow under bum to stop me from lying on back, which did work, although i did find it harder to get to a good position. Then when i lay on my right side i got loads of weird pains. Its all starting to flood back to me from when pg with J...

How is everyone else doing today?

LupinsBigLump · 21/01/2007 08:54

AM I sympathise with the sleep comfy thing, I cannot get comfy, god we have got ages of this left, I have my pillow under bump, then my legs go all uncomfy and restless, if I roll over then bump is uncomfy and its such an effort rolling back over - sure its just mother nature getting us ready for sleepless nights, doesnt she realise I have done it already and a good nights rest is what I need lol

Tooth Update - It has cracked off completly, a whole corner, and I think I may have got away lightly as it doesnt hurt at all, whats left is sharp and jagged and looks like volcano with side blown off, so being a coward I will hold out on the dentist until may/ june, if it lasts that long

Lovely day out there is freezing and rainy and I am going out in it all day - oh the joy

Have been feeling much more postive about baby last few days - think buying pushchair has made realisation dawn, and also dp asked me how ready we were ie clothes ect, when I said not very he said hadnt I ought to sort it out - so good sign that he is actually seeing it happen too, I know it is just self presevation but its nice to start enjoying my pg a bit more and be a weeny bit less worried

Have a good day all, will be back later xx

drkgpink · 21/01/2007 08:56

aprilmeadow, i know the feeling, i use the v-pillow too but not how its intended, put it between my legs to raise the bump and then the other bit pulled round my back to stop me rolling over, seems to help. even better if you can get dh to lie against the pilow as it supoorts your back, he doesn't tend to stay there for long though!!!!

InTheseShoes · 21/01/2007 13:55

Hello all, hope that you are all well! SOH congratulations on the pink one! Sorry to hear that so many of you are not sleeping well, I am a side sleeper normally, and this still seems to be ok, but massive sympathies to all of you, as lack of sleep is not a great thing for any pregnant woman.

I've just had two rather hideous weeks of being at home alone as DH has been in London Monday to Friday - working full time, being pregnant and looking after a five year old all alone is a pretty hideous thing anyway, but in addition, the dishwasher broke down, and the man who came to fix it managed to disconnect the washing machine AND the u-bend under the sink. When I called him, he thought it might be THIS week before he could get to me, however, he did manage to come on Thursday night as the storms meant he couldn't go far from home. So that ended up ok in the end, but very stressful last week indeed.

Weirdo Internet Stalker Alert for JonahB
JonahB,I think I know who you are - were you at Sainsbury's this morning at about 11am with your little boy? So you have dark brown curly hair and a (gorgeous) purple coat? If so, I think I know who you are, I will explain how if that was you as it is a bit long and complicated, and if it's not you, quite boring. If it is you, I am the woman you bumped into near the greeting cards, brown wavy hair, black long cardigan and trousers, grey and black stripy top, The Observer and Psychologies magazine in the trolley. Of course, I could be stalking the completely wrong person....

Hurrah for Matilda/Mathildas!

Just need Creena to have a little girl too and we can have a trio of them...

Didn't mean to bump Jellybeans off the list . I copied and pasted from an earlier stats list that wasn't as up-to-date as it should be.

Hope everybody is well- apart from obvious sleeping problems. I'm fine once I have got into a comfy position but it's finding it in the first place.

Still in utter shock about having a girl. In all honesty I would have loved a little boy and always thought I would have one (nobody in our family has a girl) and can't quite imagine having a pink one. Plus, I am allergic to pink, girly pursuits and all that hair-braiding malarkey so I'm hoping for a bit of a tomboy. I'm a little concerned about replicating my relationship with my Mum and I think there are far more issues in the body/weight/image vein for a girl (and groups of girls can be psychologically nasty in my experience) so I think I've always worried about having a girl and ensuring that she doesn't get teased at school (like me) for not being interested in hair and make-up. Of course she might rebel and be a little pink princess. Well DH can take her pink shopping if that's the case... I'm over the moon that she's healthy and developing well and can't wait to meet her. After trying so hard to conceive and after having a miscarriage last summer I'm highly aware that I'm lucky to be pregnant. Little Mathilda Bea will be a very welcome and loved addition.

Lucy, how are you, not seen you for a while? I went to Ipswich for my scan on Saturday- probably the worst day to go as there was a home game at Portman Road. My goodness there were some fighting, angry, hairy men wandering the streets! Never really been to Ipswich before- it was a strange initiation involving fighting and lots of policemen.

My stomach has started to visibly move over the weekend, especially when she (she?!) has hiccups. Her feet are up under my left ribs and every now and then you can see little kicks there and my stomach jerks. Very sweet, if not completely strange. Plus, if you prod her she prods right back.

Hope everybody has had a relaxing weekend and manages to sleep well tonight.

largeginandtonic · 21/01/2007 18:39

Evening all, am all alone AGAIN!!! DH and my parents gone, wont see DH for 4 weeks now. I will be 28 weeks by then! The twins arrived at 29 weeks so he will be around just in time to see me go all jittery and unstuck, lucky him...

SOH a pink one! I cant believe it, that is fab news cos when you come and stay Mathilda and Phin can play together. The other fab news is you get to use the lovely name Mathilda, i love it soooo much.

I have dug my v pillow out too, mostly it ends up on the floor by the morning tho!

Hope you have all had a lovely weekend, i will be back on the buggy debate tomorrow.

Am off to give the kids a snack before bedtime....yay, bedtime.....may have a glass of wine

ShowOfHands · 21/01/2007 18:51

Aah LG&T my heroine.

28 weeks will be here before you know it, you'll be in the third trimester and there is absolutely no reason to believe that you will have an early labour- especially with a singleton pg. Chin up chick! You really are my heroine you know. And I'm sure Phin and Mathilda will get on great, keep each other amused so we can get on with serious chatting.

Take it easy, enjoy your glass of wine and if you could come up with some sling advice in amongst all of your buggy advice, would be much appreciated.

JonahB · 21/01/2007 19:19

Evening all?.

My v-shaped pillow is my prgy best friend both this and last time. I don?t need support for my bump, but I do sleep with the pillow between my legs. Each time I have to roll from one side to the other, it?s an absolute pita as it involves moving the pillow as well. I suspect some of you know what I mean. Oh and I?m not a great sleeper either while pregnant. Sh*te, isn?t it?

Intheseshoes, THAT WAS ME!!!!! I?ve been found!!!! I?m really sorry, I don?t remember bumping into you. Please don?t be offended, I was desperately trying to buy a paper and potatoes, get DS over to Nero?s to meet some friends, was running late and all I could see in front of my eyes was a trolley pile up, all lurking in anticipation trying to bump DS on the head, while I was trying to negotiate my way to the Sunday times pile . I did bump into about 8 trolley-pushers and have to apologise to them all in the space of about 10 minutes. You therefore have now seen me looking at my most confused and stressed . Please come up to me and say hello next time, as I can?t reciprocate!
Ps, the muffin which was being stuffed into my mouth about 10 mins later soon calmed the nerves?.

SOH, I?m really delighted to hear your pink news. This way, you will have time to adjust to the concept, rather than being thrown in the deep end, as it were?I do understand about the girly thing, I have the same worries if my bump decides to be a girl. I was a total tomboy as well and if bump is a girl, I suspect she will be as well. But I can promise you all your worries are totally normal, everyone gets their own variety of worries and you will not replicate your parental influences that you feel are negative. My DH and I were so aware of not doing certain things our parents did, that it almost became a non-issue. As these were issues we felt so strongly about, our avoidance behaviour became 2nd nature. Does that make any sense? BTW, Mathilda is a beautiful name?

LupinsBigLump · 21/01/2007 19:19

LGT apparently there is only 15% increased chance of having another premmie if you have already had one - looked into this as dd was 35 weeks, not as drastic as 29 weeks but still a concern, I am actually hoping to have this one around 38 weeks - will not allow myself to go to term will get induction or cs at 38 wks if l/o not here by then, altho I strongly expect it will be

Nearly bought a m&p travel system today for £65 but friend talked me out of it reminding me that I had just bought micralite - ahhhh but it has no car seat i kept saying, anyway I left it this time

Hope ev1 has had a nice weekend

largeginandtonic · 21/01/2007 19:38

I totally relate on the 'but im not pink and girly front' Thats why i worried about having Phin, i also swore she would wear dungarees and trainers.....LOL Phin would not be seen dead in anything so ungirly! It doesnt matter what you do they do their own thing anyway, one of the twins was permanantly dressing up in pink He has grown out of it now though.

I wouldnt worry SOH, it is quite nice to dress them up in pink and purple Never thought i would say that!!!

I wonder if there is a boy version of Mathilda (matilda sp?) Not Matthew, not keen on that. Maybe i will just break the rules and call him Matilda anyway.....

The kids had crackers, cheese and apples. I have the worst heartburn from the roast i made this afternoon. Am going to drink some gaviscon (lush) before my wine, yum!

Welcome Jellybelly by the way, rest assured i will interrogate tomorrow.....

Has anyone filled in their member profiles yet? Come on ladies....

Creena · 21/01/2007 19:55

Evening all! Just popping in quickly to say thanks so much for all the nice, supportive messages left for me earlier this week - that was so lovely of you all and I appreciate it. Wasn't able to post my thanks until now as DS at home poorly and internet and email access completely banjaxed until DG fixed it this weekend. Unsurprisingly, he didn't need much coaxing to get around to that job - how else is he going to download his episodes of the West Wing?!!

Congrats to all those with scan and flavour news! Mathilda is such a beautiful name and was ranking highly on my shortlist - I've now decided that if I have a girl, I will name her after my mum so she'll be called Mitzi. Just need to come up with a suitable middle name now - any suggestions?

ShowOfHands · 21/01/2007 19:56

Glad you all like the name. It's beautiful I agree and I love the shortened version Maud, but is quite poignant at the moment . I picked it for a girl when I was very little myself and have never stopped loving it. It means 'mighty in battle' which probably means DD will end up like a tank . I know that I might have to sucuumb to the pink eventually, but I'm armed and fighting it till then.

Jonah, you're right. We are so determined not to replicate our parents' mistakes (makes them sound awful, they're not I promise) and I'm sure we will manage fine. I do however concede that I will probably make a lot of mistakes in lieu.

Gaviscon is the world's greatest invention after the tin opener but could they make it taste a bit nicer?

ShowOfHands · 21/01/2007 19:57

Mitzi is lovely Creena and it's good to have you back!

Creena · 21/01/2007 20:16

In other news, I think I may have finally found maternity jeans that fit! I bought a pair from mamas and pappas - they're the on the bump bootleg ones - and was amazed to find that the leg length is just right and that they don't fall down. Even when going up the stairs!! They weren't cheap at £35 but I know that I'll probably wear them to death and will live in them during days when I'm working from home.

SOH - I loved your 4D scan photo. It's so beautiful. I am seriously tempted to go for one now. Our 20 wk scan happened earlier than expected and we weren't really prepared, so we didn't find out the flavour and the scan photo itself wasn't the best (the baby looked like an egg timer!). I've just got to persuade DH now.

InTheseShoes · 21/01/2007 20:36

Oh my goodness JonahB, I KNEW it was!! I'll come clean as to how I've worked it out now (sorry to bore everyone else) - I was in Nero's last Saturday and saw my next door neighbours daughter and her husband and baby (K, her hubby S and baby daughter M - ringing any bells??) and it ocurred to me that they are almost always there on a Saturday am when we are. So, I began to wonder if you might be one of their friends who they meet there. I had a good nosy whilst queuing up and spotted you and a few others then, but couldn't tell if anyone was pg or not, but when you left I noticed your coat and your pram as very distinctive (it's a great pram by the way!). Anyway, when I saw you again today, and recognised you because you are so chic and your ds is so cute, and your coat is so lovely. And, because you had your coat undone, I could see that you were pregnant - your bump is neat and stylish too, damn you! So, there you go, just call me Miss Marple! I don't actually know K and S that well, but K's Mum and Dad are the fabbest neighbours ever, and my ds (A) loves them to bits, K's dad came round and helped me patch up the dishwasher man disaster the other day so I could use the washing machine. K's mum was one of the first people I told I was expecting again.

I promise I will say hello next time!

JonahB · 21/01/2007 21:39

Boring to anyone else but Intheseshoes ? big, big apologies*

OMG. Welll, of course I?ve just been straight on the phone to K to tell her our ?small world? story. K&S are both really close mates of mine. Well deduced!! I?m very impressed!! Thank you for the coat compliment. It has to be undone ? it won?t do up and hasn?t done for about 6 weeks! Don?t think anyone has ever called me chic before though .

Do say hello next time. I?ve asked K to point you out next time we are all in there. As soon as I started the story, she started laughing and knew exactly where I was going with it??

Lesson to everyone else: Discuss personal details like your waxing habits and pillow sleeping positions, and someone in RL, who is about to meet you in a local coffee house, will know your most INTIMATE details . ITS ? as long as you don?t tell K?s mum and dad my biggest secrets, I don?t mind too much (you're right - they're both lovely)...

JonahB · 21/01/2007 21:59

Quick question - before I go into the big bad world of MN to ask everyone else, does anyone on here have any experience of the Jane Powertwin? LG&T, not sure if this is one that you have tried?

InTheseShoes · 21/01/2007 22:31

Jonah - and ditto to you, don't tell K or S or Ks mum and dad any of mine desperately tries to remember what she's told Mumsnet about her life

How funny and bizarre at the same time!!!

Lwatkins · 22/01/2007 03:31

Well it's 3:30 AM and can I sleep, can I bugger!!! Have been very naughty and put a huge portion of french fries in the oven, mmmmmm!
Think I have finally decided on my girls name, I think. Though still have other favs on the list, but am really loving Charlotte. Middle name to be decided, toss up between May, Grace or Diane (after my mum). Mind i still have another 18 weeks to go so it may change!
Hope everyone is well, bumps to. Congrats to evreyone who's had scans and been told their flavours!
Am off, gotta date with my bed, french fries and a few episodes of sex and the city

jessinwa · 22/01/2007 05:42

oh ladies... i so wish i had the chance to accidentally identify one of you in a local shop. not a chance in hell, i am afraid. with that in mind, let me tell you all about this stupid yeast infection i have and about the boil on my butt cheek and about how often i have to pee and about how i can't sleep and about my stupid dh who thinks the world revolves around him and...
this pregnancy has been so much more trouble than the last. maybe it is a girl?
i have my gestational diabetes test tomorrow. it is standard here, just like with fsf. i don't mind going through the test but i am so nervous i am going to forget to not eat or drink anything other than the sweet drink they gave me. also, poor munch has to sit through it all with me because dh can't get home in time to hang out with him. boo.
hope you are all sleeping soundly right now, even you, mkg. it is 9:40pm here so that means it is 12:40am your time and 5:40am for most of the rest of you. i have had a horrid time sleeping lately. right now i am having a bit of red wine to see if that will help. please send me good sleeping vibes if you can spare any.

largeginandtonic · 22/01/2007 09:38

Morning all, hope you managed to get back to sleep lwatkins and that you managed to fall asleep Jess.

Creena i hope you are ok and not too stressed out with D plonka H. It is nice to have you back.

I had a very scary 2 hours last night, i woke at 3 with awful pains. I first thought i may be in labour, they were so painful and right across my bump. I thought maybe i had eaten something dodgy and it could be food poisoning cramps, anyway i staggered to the loo and (sorry TMI) sat there for about 40 mins, the pains were like clockwork every 3 mins. I did poo eventually, i just sat there thinking what shall i do? It dawned on me i have noone here, i could phone my friend and she would have to wake her 2 and watch mine. But i would have go in an ambulance on my own! I went back to bed hoping it would all stop if i laid back down, i fell back to sleep but was up again at 4.10 with the awful pains. This time i stayed in bed and hoped it would go next thing i knew it was 7 and the alrm was going off, no pains nothing?!

The baby has been moving this morning and i feel fine, have just eaten dry toast so we will see. I was very scared and just thought here we go again, early baby. So what do you all think? I have never had food poisoning while preg and i do not like it, has anyone else? Did you think you were in labour? Shall i phone the midwfe? Rats to it all....

LupinsBigLump · 22/01/2007 09:58

LGT hugs to you - you must have been petrified - I would ring mw just for peace of mind, cant hurt to get checked out, I have never had food poisoning myself - but have poisoned dp (hehe) and he was in agony quite spasmy pains all over his stomach, can you think of anything you may have eaten dodgy?

ShowOfHands · 22/01/2007 09:59

Oh LG&T how frightening. I would phone the midwife for peace of mind, get checked over. It could just have been food poisoning -good trick is count back 9 hours from first pain and think what you ate- if it is food poisoning you will find your culprit that way. So did you eat at 6pm ish and what did you eat?

Please let us know what you decide.
