Thank you fed up and ameilius- no 4th girl Shock my poor son with all these sisters! X

Devon2000 · 02/06/2016 09:32

There's no big rush with the shopping, I've just got much time on my hands & spending it looking at online shopping! I've got 2 weeks before I start a new job & I figured I might as well use it to plan. I've been self employed for the last 5 years & don't work full time, so it's about to get a lot busier. At least the new job is mainly home based so hopefully won't be too exhausting. I think we'll wait till after 20 wks but keeping an eye out for bargains in the meantime.

Devon2000 · 02/06/2016 09:45

tired congratulations! I love the waving photo, so cute. Makes me excited for my 20 week scan.

Anyone had experience of taking more than just their partner with them to a scan? I really want to take my 91 year old grandmother as I don't know how much time she'll have with the baby, just being realistic & so I wanted to involve her as much as possible. My mum will bring her & help her get about. Do you think hospitals would be okay with all 3 of them coming in with me? I've read a no children rule but but that's it. I wouldn't normally want a big audience especially as I'm nervous about baby being okay but my partner & I agreed we should involve my grandmother if we can.

bobcat85 · 02/06/2016 09:47

Gender scan today, really excited. OH thinks girl, I reckon boy.

Had my 16 week midwife appointment and heard the heartbeat, even heard baby move around lots.

almondbutter · 02/06/2016 09:51

Devon at my hospital in central London it's max two people allowed in with you for the scan but
A) the waiting room doesn't have nearly enough seats for the mums, much less anyone else
B) the scanning rooms are tiny
C) the whole place is hugely overloaded and rammed and chaotic
so I wouldn't assume that's the same everywhere.

bobcat85 · 02/06/2016 10:02

almondbutter same at my hospital on the south coast, they don't allow more than two people in the room at once. It's also very busy and does get overcrowded.

However, have you considered a private scan Devon? They will allow you to have more than two people and it is less 'official' in nature than NHS scans.

coppergrey · 02/06/2016 10:03

How are you getting on, almond? Been thinking of you and hope you're feeling a bit better.

Always worth an ask, Devon! I think that's a lovely idea and hopefully they'll sort it for you.

tired, great pics!

almondbutter · 02/06/2016 10:21

Great idea on the private scan bobcat. We loved ours and it'll give your family time to enjoy the fun bits, Devon, rather than having the sometimes really rushed measuring and checking process.

Thanks copper. Honestly it's been a tough week, both mentally and physically. I have taken a week off work since the HG hospitalisation just to rest. I am only being sick a few times a day now on a bad day and my eating is much, much better, but I have proper freelance fear of dwindling cashflow that you'll no doubt be familiar with. I am going to start working again next week but not guilting myself about keeping office hours like I was before hospital. How's everything with you?

Thurlow · 02/06/2016 10:39

Congrats on another girl, tired!

Good luck, bobcat!

FuzzyOwl · 02/06/2016 11:45

DD has had a sleepyhead from birth Duck and is a fantastic sleeper. No idea if it is a coincidence or not, but will be using one again with this baby.

Thank you Devon,copper,thurlow Smile

Good luck for your scan bobcat Smile

smellsofelderberries · 02/06/2016 13:26

Devon, I'm at a big London hospital which specifically states you're only allowed to bring 1 person to appointments with you. When we were there for the 12 week scan some idiot decided the rules didn't apply to her and brought her partner and parents. It was really, really crowded in the waiting area and I thought it was just a really selfish thing to do. Obviously it depends on what your hospitals policy is though. I would also suggest a private scan- they're a much nicer experience anyway.

FuzzyOwl · 02/06/2016 13:31

I would ring your hospital in advance Devon but I also second the private scan option - so much nicer and plenty of room for you to have several guests and for them to sit and enjoy the scan. Of the hospitals I have been to, not only has the waiting area been busy but the rooms themselves tend to only have one chair for someone to sit on and very little space to move around in.

Agree the private scan option - we had one at 8 weeks and have another booked for 17 weeks. You get so much more time, the images are amazing and generally it's a lovely experience!

bobcat85 · 02/06/2016 13:48

It's a little boy, so happy. I was hoping for a boy, although obviously would have been happy with either.
Baby all healthy and moving around lots. Was good to get some clear pictures as the 12 week ones weren't very clear.

Thurlow · 02/06/2016 14:15

Congrats!

coppergrey · 02/06/2016 14:29

Amazing pics, bob! Lovely news.

almond, you've dealt with it all so well. Glad the medication is helping - hopefully with a bit of adjustment time you can get back into the swing of things. It's so, so hard to allow yourself time off when all you can think of is the cashflow, but you've got plenty of time to right that before you're off on maternity and you'll handle work SO much better when you're feeling healthy. So try not to worry too much, look forwards and don't punish yourself. It'll all work out in the end Flowers

smellsofelderberries · 02/06/2016 17:03

Congratulations bob! Amazing to see how much they change between scans!

needanewjob · 02/06/2016 18:29

Ahhh another little man! Congratulations bob on a healthy scan.

I'm off on half term at the minute with DS and we've had a couple of lazy starts which have boosted my energy levels right back up. Think I needed a week off work! (Although my bank balance disagrees... It's expensive planning treats for little people)

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 02/06/2016 18:42

Congrats bob! If I could justify the expense of definitely be having a private scan in the next couple of weeks but as dh is a sahd I just don't think I can with mat leave coming up! Still, less than 4 wks now to my 20w one!
Anyone else started with the heartburn yet? Mine's horrid already Angry

DuckWaddle · 02/06/2016 19:36

Thanks fuzzy and ameilus- sounds like I definitely need to make that investment! Are there other things that people feel are great items to have bar the necessities?
Grey- the heartburn hasn't kicked in yet but it was awful with my first so not looking forward to it. I also Got terrible foot cramps but they haven't kicked in yet

Devon2000 · 02/06/2016 20:11

Congrats Bob!

That is for suggestions, I'll ask my DP what he thinks about private scan. We had one at 7 weeks to set our mind at rest but we didn't have a great experience. The sonographer was really cold & disinterested & we were in & out really quickly. At the time I was just relieved that baby was okay but afterwards we felt a bit disappointed. I'm sure there must be another clinic we can try though. Or hope we dont have her again! I think our hospital might be a bit more relaxed, only judging by the number of people in the waiting room at our 12 wk scan who bought more than 1 person with them but I didn't see whether they actually went in for the scan or not. I'll ring next wk & ask & then we can book a private one if we need to.

bobcat85 · 02/06/2016 20:54

Thanks everyone :)

That's a shame about your private scan experience Devon. As you're paying for it you'd expect them to be better than that. Hope you manage to sort something out.

coppergrey · 02/06/2016 21:08

Just tried on my New Look maternity order - I love it all! I got two pairs of skinny jeans (one blue, one black), a stripy maxi skirt and a black wrap top. All great quality, they fit nicely and everything is SO comfy. Plus I only paid £62 for it all! Highly recommended for those of you looking for maternity bargains.

Fedupithink · 03/06/2016 05:21

Huge congrats Bob!! So pleased you are feeling better Almond

We fly home tomorrow which I'm gutted about but so looking forward to my midwife appointment on Wednesday as she said we'd listen to the heartbeat again.

When did you all get your dates for your 20wk scans? I've not got mine yet and I still haven't had my screening results despite chasing so figure they must be lost in the post, trying not to worried about this but it's impossible to get hold of anyone on the phone lines. It's just a leave a voicemail and we'll call back - which they never do.
