need there are no words. My heart goes out to you, your family and of course your DD. I think it's wonderfully generous of you to raise money in her name

Thank you everyone. It's been a funny few weeks with the anniversary and the pregnancy to contend with but we are so delighted to be expecting again! Our little boy is really looking forward to being a big brother.

On a sunnier note... I'm 17 weeks today and the energy is slowly but surely returning. On Tuesday we are having a private scan and we are hoping to find out the gender then.

I've also started to buy a few more maternity clothes as third time round there's no hiding baby!! as well as my Topshop maternity jeans I've bought myself a navy stripe maxi skirt from New Look which I'm looking forward to wearing once I have a proper bump. It was only £12.99 and it's really nice - I think I might have a look at some of their other maternity bits next time I go shopping

Fedupithink · 22/05/2016 12:09

You are so strong Need

I have just got back from my private scan, it was so so amazing. I can really recommend it, we only booked the 15 minute quick scan but it was so lovely and just long enough.

They really take their time and explain everything, let us listen to the heartbeat and just watch it moving for ages. They even showed me the placenta and cord and even though we hadn't paid for the 3D scan she showed us the 3D screens and gave us loads of pics of both. So excited!

needanewjob · 22/05/2016 15:17

Fed thank you x

Oh I am looking forward to our scan tomorrow I just hope all is ok...

With summer gradually making an appearance I've started thinking about sunscreen. I was planning to use kids/babies sun cream whilst I'm pregnancy as I'm assuming that can't have any nasties in it can it? Normally I use Nivea or Soltan.

AlbusPercival · 22/05/2016 16:38

Sounds logical to me Need

coppergrey · 22/05/2016 17:16

Need, I found this really useful for understanding the skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy - www.15minutebeauty.com/2010/10/newwhat-to-avoid-while-pregnant.html.

The author doesn't really mention much about sunscreen, however. I use a CeraVe moisturiser with SPF30 in, on the one hand it has zinc oxide which is supposed to be good as it stops the product being absorbed by the skin (I think) but on the other, it has ingredients that some skincare sites recommend avoiding.

It depends how conservative you want to be, I guess. The blogger linked above describes herself as 'very conservative' when it comes to pregnancy skincare and still seems to have no problems with SPF, so I'm taking my cues from her!

coppergrey · 22/05/2016 17:22

This is another really useful skincare ingredients list - www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/1i1v6w/if_youre_pregnant_trying_to_conceive_or_lactating/. So from this it looks like the main ingredient to avoid in SPF is Oxybenzone.

(I'm a skincare addict, as you can probably tell!)

needanewjob · 22/05/2016 17:52

Ohh thank you copper I'm popping to Boots in the morning so I'm going to go and have a read of all the labels

needanewjob · 22/05/2016 17:54

Also...for anyone looking for a nice easy moisturiser I bought some Burts Bees Mama Oil a couple of weeks ago and it's absolutely lovely! Really easy to rub in and light lemony smell

CakeAndChocolate · 22/05/2016 19:52

need I haven't done any research on sunscreen (unusual for me, I usually research until I'm blue in the face) but I have come to the same logical conclusion as you, I've used Nivea kids when I've needed to do far.

tiredmumrighthere · 22/05/2016 21:07

Hi all hope your all well, haven't been on for a few days been super busy!!

So my energy has miraculously returned and my nausea has stopped (been a whole 7 days whoop whoop!) feeling so much better it's a miracle! Celebrated with a 10 mile bike ride with the family today as my sons having an op tomorrow, (it's on his foot and will be in a cast for 8 weeks so we let him pick are day out) although I had an electric bike lol I was surprised with how much I enjoyed it and how much energy I had Shock (bum hurts a lot though) I think knowing I was going to Burger King after for lunch spurred me on Wink still..felt pretty proud of myself!

I'm so happy just to be feeling a bit more motivated, it makes such a difference!

Feeling bit anxious about sons op tomorrow but that's too be expected I guess.
Not looking forward to the 6am start and the day (and possibly night) spent in a hospital, but fingers crossed he won't have to spend the night there, he didn't last time!

Nice to hear of good scans and screen results x

Slumberparty · 23/05/2016 02:11

Hi all. Hope everyone is feeling well today. Following on from the Chinese sex prediction method, I read that the heart rate can be an indication of sex too - over 140bpm and it's more likely to be a girl. So far 2 of my pregnant friends had heart rates over 140 and know they are having girls. My baby heart rate was 151 bpm but I've got a whole 5 weeks to wait for my next scan! Has this theory run true for anyone here that knows the baby's sex?

BeedlesPineNeedles · 23/05/2016 06:31

need it must be so hard at the moment but you're doing amazingly well. Good luck with the scan tomorrow. I also bought that skirt from new look (via asos) but it was way too long and much tighter on me than in the Pictures so I sent it back! It looked Lovely in the Pictures though.

tired glad you're feeling better and I hope your son's op goes well today.

I hadn't even thought about bad stuff in sunscreen, I'll have a read of that article later

coppergrey · 23/05/2016 07:51

Slumber our heartbeat was 153, although the Chinese predictor says boy... But only 2 weeks till we (hopefully) find out at an early scan so will let you know which is right!

FuzzyOwl · 23/05/2016 08:13

Hope your son's op goes well today *tired.

Slumber heartrate here was 161 at 12 week scan and she is a girl. Chinese and nub theories also said girl.

Tired - good luck for your DS today

HB for us was 162 at 13 weeks, and 156 at 17 +3, will let you know if DH lets me find out sex at 20 week scan!

coppergrey · 23/05/2016 09:24

Hope all goes well with your son's op today, tired!

I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and feeling really great today. Probably because I slept for 12 hours last night, but still! Nausea has pretty much gone and I feel loads more energetic. Fingers crossed it lasts!

Hope you're all doing well today Flowers

Fedupithink · 23/05/2016 09:26

Ooh I love these old wives tales, the heart rate was 151 at yesterday's scan which suggests a girl, it sounded like a train rather than galloping horses which suggests boy and Chinese theory says boy. Only a few weeks until we can find out!

Is everyone going to find out or are some of you waiting until birth? I have to know!

Fedupithink · 23/05/2016 09:27

Good luck for your sons op today Need Flowers must be very stressful for you.

mrsdane · 23/05/2016 09:27

Hi all, hope you had a good weekend.

Anyone experiencing nightmares at the moment? I was convinced there was a burglar in my bedroom last night, which scared the hell out of my husband. Just sharing the pregnancy love :)

Couldn't get back to sleep so am now a zombie at my desk.

Hope the op goes well today need

Thurlow · 23/05/2016 09:30

Need, I am truly sorry for your loss Flowers

Thinking positive thoughts for your DS's op, tired.

Pitter, I am struggling with work too. It's more the commute and dealing with life either side of work that's doing me in, but it's not making me great in the office. Sent a long pity-party email to my manager the other day and she has been great, fortunately - but there's only so much you can change and do, isn't there? It's annoying.

Bollyroo · 23/05/2016 10:17

Mrs, I had a terrible nightmare last night but then had a sexy dream (like really sexy!!!) when I went back to sleep so on average I reckon I'm normal..?!

So DH and I are in New Zealand (yay!) for work (boo) and I managed to stay awake the whoooole day despite a 4hr client meeting with no loo breaks. Yes. 4hrs. I was so excited to survive I treated myself to my first glass of wine since March. So good. Hurray!

Sunscreen? I've just been using the same as always but piling heaps on my face. Definitely more sensitive to the light at the moment.

AlbusPercival · 23/05/2016 13:25

I had a very naught dream last night too, knew there had to be some upside to pregnancy (apart from baby of course!)
