I know there's already a thread up for early Jan babies but couldn't see one for the rest of Jan (probably as I'm jumping the gun a bit here!).

This is my first proper pregnancy and I'm a planner by nature so I need some kind of place to talk about this so I don't drive my DP mad!

Bit about me:
I'm 28
This is baby number one
EDD 6th Jan.

Anyone else want to join me?

Thank you MagpieCursedTea!

I haven't had the scan yet. As far as I know if no concerns the first scan will be between 11-13 weeks. I had my first scan at 11 weeks with my son. How does every one get early scan? Is it in private?

Also when will everyone have first midwife appointment? I saw the gp at 5 weeks. I'm nearly 7 weeks now and still didn't hear from midwife. I am traveling abroad at 8 weeks and coming back 4 weeks later. Does anyone know if I could book midwife appointment before 8 weeks ( I know they normally don't do first appointment before 8-9 weeks) before I'm travelling?

Congratulations to all expecting mothers :)

Hey there,
I'm new to mumsnet and 6 weeks today, this is my first pg and I'm 33. Had terrible bloating and some pink cm end of last week now onto full day nausea yesterday and so far today but I've not been sick yet.

I've already told close family because I suck a secrets. Hoping I won't start feeling so ill I need to tell work yet.

CarrotVan · 31/05/2016 12:16

I has a history of miscarriage and had some early spotting so the EPU scanned me at 4+4 to check placement and see if there was a cause for the spotting. They then booked me for a re-scan at 6+6 (which will be the 6th of June for freaky date/number coincidence) and then the recurrent miscarriage antenatal clinic will scan me every two weeks until 10 weeks when my care goes to the midwifery team and I have my 12 week scan. Hopefully from then on it will just be normal care

You can also get private scans for £50-100 from lots of places.

I would call the community midwives and chase that appointment for before you leave as they'll need to get the scan booked in for as soon as you're back (it needs to be before 13+6 if you're having the scan+bloods for trisomy issues)

Those ladies who feel very lightheaded it's worth checking your iron levels ASAP. Perhaps it's a low iron. I'm on iron supplements as I was anemic after giving birth to my son. I was feeling light headed all the time in my first pregnancy.

Mumchatting · 31/05/2016 12:26

Yes I think you are right carrotvan! I will call my GP and ask for the number to community midwives and chase that appointment. Thanks for your help.

CarrotVan · 31/05/2016 12:28

The community midwives number will be on the website for the hospital where you're likely to give birth if you can't get it from the GP. It's all self-referral in my area so we don't go through the GP for anything

Mumchatting · 31/05/2016 12:34

Oh that's good to know. Thanks! I will check that and call them. Thanks again!

hels18 · 31/05/2016 12:39

Thank you mumchatting, I actually got my bloods back from the Drs this morning and they are all normal which is great. They will do a full screening again at my 8 week check, although I will actually be almost 9 weeks by then. I think it's to do with my tiredness and afternoon nausea. My body's way of saying 'slow down' at work!

dippypanda · 31/05/2016 13:14

Hi, I've just recently had my BFP.
Bit about me, I'm 37, this is my 2nd, currently 5w3d and due 30th Jan.
Symptoms have been off and on, mostly fatigue and hungry, only nauseous if I don't eat. Also thinking about getting a private scan done around 8-9 weeks as I've had 3 prev mc's

Ruggermonkey · 31/05/2016 13:45

Sadly pulling out of this, after a very long few days had an appointment at the BEP clinic this morning for a scan and am having a miscarriage. Am utterly heartbroken. Good luck to all of you, look after yourselves.

Sorry to hear that Rugger

Admarks · 31/05/2016 18:51

So sorry for your loss rugger and welcome newbies!

For others asking about early scans, I had an early scan by the EPU due to bleeding at 5+4 and they detected 'early fetal heart activity' and did not feel the need to see me again in a week as they assessed it as a viable pregnancy. I think this is quite unusual though as I have seen others on here be asked to come back in a week at the same age as they couldn't see a heart beat. I think this is normal and so nothing to be worried about, heart beat should be detectable from 7 weeks (possibly earlier) so if going private is wait till at least 7 weeks (this is my first time pregnant so I only have these threads & Google to base my knowledge on!)

Having said that I am impatient cannot wait for my 12 week scan in 3 weeks and have just booked a (private) reassurance early scan next week when I will be 10 weeks. My (mild) symptoms have been tailing off a bit and so I'm bit irrationally concerned that something is not right and so hopefully next week will put my mind at ease. My local hospital offer reassurance scans at £60 which is far cheaper than some of the private outfits here and a cost I can just about justify!!

Hellington · 31/05/2016 19:03

Anyone on here really struggling with hayfever? Now I can't take anything it's really hit me! Looking for some pregnancy safe solutions...

Surf25 · 31/05/2016 22:45

Oh no, rugger I am so sorry. Do take care of yourself. Flowers
