Finally got my booking in appt in 15mins, might start to make it feel more real?!

Babydreaming · 04/05/2016 08:49

So I'm 9 weeks today! Very happy to have made it this far. I as really tired yesterday and have woken up today with a headache and stuffy nose/sore throat. Will having a cold increase my risk of miscarriage?

billabye · 04/05/2016 09:15

Babydreaming no I really don't think a cold will affect anything but maybe just check the labels on any cold medication and ask your pharmacist if unsure

SouthDownsSunshine · 04/05/2016 09:30

You'll be fine baby, just you can't take all of the normal medicines.

Yay babydreaming! Love little milestones!

Having a sneaky 15 minutes to myself in Starbucks, with a cup of ice cubes which is amazing for the nausea.

SolomanDaisy · 04/05/2016 09:40

baby, I had a cold last week too. It's not fun on top of the tiredness and nausea is it? The only thing I read is a risk is if you have a high fever, and that can be dealt with using paracetamol. Not likely from a normal cold anyway!

The worst of my morning sickness seems to have lifted. I'm not sure whether I'm relieved by this or just anxious. Overall I've had a much easier time than with DD1 (I was so nauseous and physically sick with her many times, but not been physically sick at all this pregnancy and the nausea has been a lot less). As I say it's lovely in one way but it does make me anxious that something isn't right. Just under 3 weeks until my 12 week scan so keep to get that done now. Having said that I am much more tired (I'm in bed by 9pm if I'm not working!) and, much like last pregnancy, my stomach muscles are already failing me. Last week one of my patients guessed I was pregnant from my stomach size alone Shock and other people are starting to notice and comment. I'm also already in maternity trousers. Blush The thing is I have a funeral on Friday (DH's granddad) and I don't want DH's extended family to know just yet so need to do a bit of stomach hiding.

As for those worrying about food restrictions etc. Try not to panic too much if you do accidentally eat a bit of brie or similar. The risk isn't from the cheese itself but from the very tiny risk from catching listeria. But if you take a moment to think how often you've eaten these things and how often you've caught listeria (which for most people is never) you can see how tiny the risk is. Simillarly with undercooked eggs. Since they started the UK 'Lion' salmonella vaccination programme in chickens I don't think there's been a reported case of salmonella from any of these eggs for years, so your chances of catching salmonella from a runny egg yolk is so tiny that I really wouldn't worry about it. I'm not saying don't be sensible, but the risks posed by a lot of foods they discourage pregnant women from eating are very tiny. The NHS has quite a clear list on their website of suitable cheeses etc if you are anxious though:

I read that one of the pg hormones makes for a snotty nose - so might be that and not a cold/flu. here's hoping
Still part of the "hot" gang here but slept pretty well - yay

Nuttypops · 04/05/2016 12:47

Early scan this morning showed a happy bean with a heartbeat which was a huge relief! Dated at 8+4 which is a bit less than I thought but early measurements can vary so much that it will be more useful to wait for the 12 week scan for a proper due date. They could see the bleed but it was small so hopefully all is well. They asked if I wanted to take part in a trial where you take extra progesterone until 16 weeks after having a bleed in early pregnancy- they are trying to trial if it helps reduce miscarriage following a bleed. I think progesterone is commonly used in some circumstances already so was surprised they are still trailing it. Need to read more about it before deciding I think.

Roxy2307 · 04/05/2016 13:23

Hi all,
Sorry to hear about those with worries and bad news Flowers
Welcome to any newbies and great to hear some happy news too.

I had an early scan booked this morning (standard in Belgium!) and ironically woke up early bleeding quite heavily, fresh red blood! Had a huge panic but the hospital were great. I had my scan and we saw our little bean growing nicely and with a strong heartbeat. Very happy Smile they found no cause for the bleeding but didn't seem too worried either.
Next scan is at 9+ weeks here to check growth so only a few weeks to wait!
x

n0ne · 04/05/2016 14:15

OK girls, I'm definitely out. Just had to leave work due to very painful cramps and extreme bleeding. Now an hour's commute home on the train - great. Wearing 3x ultra heavy flow pads on top of each other, hope I make it home without embarrassing myself!

Good luck with your pgs, ladies. I shall bid you adieu.

Dunlin1987 · 04/05/2016 14:21

I'm out too Sad had an early scan this morning at 9 weeks and baby had stopped developing at 7 with no heart beat. Heartbroken.

HidinginPlainS1ght · 04/05/2016 14:23

Welcome to so many new people and Flowers for all those with sad news.

After a week of cramps and left sided sharp pain decided to go into EPU this morning and they did a scan. Baby is growing and measuring ahead of dates (I'm 8+4 and baby is measuring 9+2) as the first sign of DC1's chromosomal problems was measuring behind at this stage, it's a good sign.

Was very surprised to see a live baby (well blob) with heartbeat as this is the most symptomless pregnancy ever. Had a few symptoms early on but nothing for over a week now. Clearly symptoms mean nothing.

TinySalmon · 04/05/2016 15:29

n0ne FlowersFlowers my due date buddy! I'm so so sorry to here this news. I was hoping for good news for you on Friday. Please let us know how you get on and that you are ok!

dunlin Flowers this is heartbreaking! Thinking of you.

weechops · 04/05/2016 15:48

n0ne and dunlin I'm so so sorry. FlowersFlowers

rider1975 · 04/05/2016 15:57

n0ne and Dunlin - I am so so sorry to hear your news. I totally understand the heartbreak. Take good care Flowers

underrugsswept · 04/05/2016 16:04

So, so sorry ladies. Flowers

ermmm · 04/05/2016 16:25

So sorry ladies...💐.

Makes me scared to wait for 12 week scan.

ChoChang · 04/05/2016 16:48

n0ne and dunlin I'm so so sorry, it is totally heartbreaking. I hope you got home ok n0ne.

My worst fear now is starting to mc at work and having to get home. Booked in for a d & c on Friday so just hoping to hold on til then now. Agonized over the decision of whether to go for the surgical option or not but on balance I think it's best for us. Totally petrified something will happen which might give us even more problems in the future but the risks are small so just hoping for the best.

Lovely to hear of so many successful early scans too, must be so amazing to see those little baby blobs and heartbeats!

NurseRosie · 04/05/2016 17:02

Sorry for being quiet everyone, works been so busy and with battling that along with my nausea and uni work I've been in bed early most nights. Had my work maternity assessment already and my leave date is 4th November all being well, I'm on countdown already. Scan in 3 weeks and I just want to know all is well, so anxious.

So sorry to read some bad news, my heart goes out to you who have lost, must be heart breaking. Please stay strong and look after yourselves x

firawla · 04/05/2016 17:23

So sorry all those with sad news SadFlowers

I'm thinking to go for the panorama test so that I can do it at 9 weeks rather than 10 for the harmony, and get another early scan done with it. I'm quite anxious this time - I don't remember being worried v much with my others, maybe it's an age thing! We are going away over half term and I doubt Nhs would get in a 12 week scan before then so it would be good to get that reassurance and feel more relaxed before we go, hopefully

SecretSquirrelsSecretFriend · 04/05/2016 17:41

Aw ladies I'm so sorry Flowers

I'm bit worried, had an early scan at 8 weeks but symptoms seem to be decreasing by the day. Having had a MMC before I'm terrified of the 12 week scan. Just under 3 weeks to go.

peanutbutter2409 · 04/05/2016 17:46

So sorry for everyone that's had bad news Flowers

becciandbump · 04/05/2016 17:46

kitkat im definately sporting a bump too and expecting colleagues to pick up on it shortly my hips and backside have also spread (which I am less happy about!) agree with u about the food the caution is just guidance I ate a load of duck pate the week before I found out looking back I think it was my first craving it's something I never buy! Ive also eaten Parma ham/chorizo before I realised I shouldn't have you cant avoid everything so best to just try eat the best you can. Wasn't sure I was getting enough calcium so decided to have a large glass of milk inbetween patients mid morning x

becciandbump · 04/05/2016 17:48

Ps none and dunlin thinking of you xx Flowers
