Thanks Tokentotty.

My boyfriend thought it was a bit early to be worried about hospitals until he saw the difference between the Whittington and St Thomas'. In Australia, most of the hospitals are like St Thomas'.

Good luck everybody. I guess as I have a really late August DD, most people on this board are already a way ahead of me.

GillL · 25/01/2007 14:26

Hi Kiteflying. Welcome to the group. You'll find a lot of us due at the end of August. I've been told mine is due on 19th so I'm 10+5. MS is starting to subside now thankfully. I've not actually been sick but constantly nauseous. I don't know which is worse. Anyway, congratulations on your pg. Hope you find a good hospital.

tokentotty · 25/01/2007 14:40

I haven't been to see the hospital I've booked in to so going to go on Sunday hopefully and am desperate not to be too disappointed !

Just booked my 12 week scan at The Fetal Medicine centre in Harley Street for next Thursday. Was just going to have my NHS one but saw a consultant privately this morning to discuss whether I'd find any benefit in using him privately (none at all quite frankly !!) but he did point out that the hospital I'm going to only did a 12 week dating scan and NOT the tests for Downs etc which have to be done between 11 and 14 weeks so suggested I went there instead. Because I'm a first timer I'd never have known any of this were it not for this appt today and wonder how well advised we all are by our NHS...... What else should I possibly do ??

jenny132 · 25/01/2007 16:28

Hi everyone ? can I join in? I?m a little over 9 weeks pg with our 1st baby ? EDD 30th Aug. Think I?ll be the latest to drop???

Like most people on here, I?m absolutely exhausted ? haven?t made it past 9pm for the last month! Morning sickness is bearable during the day, but pretty awful in the evenings ? hence the very early nights!!

Kiteflying ? I don?t know much about hospitals either and am also panicking! St Thomas? is my local one, and like you I?ve heard good things about it too. I did a search on Mumsnet on London hospitals and found some pretty good info. Might be worth trying a search? The conclusion I came to was that the delivery and labour wards were all good (if a little understaffed), but all the post-natal wards were pretty overcrowded and not very nice. At least we shouldn?t be there for too long (hopefully)!

Tokentotty ? I?m also off to the Fetal Medicine Centre for my 12 week scan. I just wanted to be sure that I had two sound opinions telling me the same thing! Are you sure your NHS scan isn?t a nuchal scan? Might be worth checking with your GP. I?m fairly sure my NHS one is.

Anyway, mammoth post over. Just wanted to say hello!

tokentotty · 25/01/2007 16:37

Hey Jenny, lovely to hear from you and congrats !!

Am pretty positive my NHS scan isn't anything more than a dating scan. Initially because that's what it says on the appointment letter and secondly because the midwife I'm planning on using insists on the 12 wk scan being done at the fetal centre rather than the local hospital. Will ask her when I call this eve....

I hope you're one of those women for whom the sickness lifts the minute you hit 12 weeks !!!

kiteflying · 25/01/2007 16:53

Hi Jenny, pleased to find someone who is due about the same time or later!

I think morning sickness should be renamed. So many have afternoon and evening sickness! Mine hits badly just as I have to make a decision about what to cook in the evening. At least for lunch I eat at work and it is just a matter of choosing and eating before I have a chance to think about it.

Hope yours lifts soon.

BabyMadwithBump · 25/01/2007 17:09

Hi everyone, 13 week and no pains since so thats good, feeling very drained today and sickness feeling but it's the first time that I haven't been sick so fingers crossed it's getting better. Got a bump already but I've losts laods of weight so dont know whats going on there, still not seen a consultant about this dam over active thyroid I would just like to get it sorted, and a chance to ask questions about it and about my care would be nice, any way thats me, must go and sort out DC and tea! hope everyone is fine and well, Babymadxx

kaata · 25/01/2007 17:44

Hello, I'm new here, can I join in? I'm 29 and I'm 10 weeks pregnant, my EDD is 30 August 2007.
Have not had any morning sickness yet (luckily) but start to be very "picky" with my food - can't stand certain food I used to love before.

tokentotty · 25/01/2007 17:52

Congrats Kaata !!

How lovely to have so many joining this afternoon

x

kaata · 25/01/2007 18:05

Hello, thank you for the welcome
I'm over the moon as all of you are I'm sure. I still had no tests, only saw GP at Christmas. I'm having an appt with a midwife next week and a scan on 20.2. - so long to go!!! Is it similar with you?
I'm not British so still trying to get my head around how the system and care works here... ;))

Loulee · 25/01/2007 20:00

hi all, and welcome to all - there's loads of us! Sorry for all those not feeling well / exhausted / frustrated. Did anyone go down the retail therapy / pampering route? Dh has just returned home today, so at last I can rest - and this weekend is definitely my pampering weekend (if ~I can find the energy )
Babymad, I'm 13 weeks now too. Time suddenly feels like it's going a bit faster - thank goodness.
Luckily my sickness appears to be getting less - still throw up every morning, but not finding it quite so hard to make the kids dinner. I wasn't expecting it as with dd1 and 2 sickness went on for about 6 months - maybe this means it's a boy??!

Still waiting for my scan / booking appointment but not so long now. Very of all you who have had them. And in glasgow, thewy won't tell you the sex which is very frustrating - will just have to ask pertinent questions.

BabyMadwithBump · 25/01/2007 20:54

I had a bit of morning sicknes with DS#1 and I had morning sickness with DS#2 to the point I ended up hospital a few times! With this little one Ive felt as tho I'm die-ing I know that sounds mad but its fair to say that is how I've flet, so drained, tried, and the alday sickness, having to take DC back and forth from school hasn't helped. Even tho we TTC this little one for 18 months I really felt like "what have I done" once the sickness kicked in, Ive really felt sorry for myself and think thuch wood I'm coming out the other end, wait and see game! DH is hoping for a girl and even tho my DC dont know we are PG yet, they know mummy and daddy have been trying to make a seed grow in mummy's tummy for some time, they want a sister only, I hope to find out what this little one is at my 20 scan so I can tell my boys (all three of them) weather it's a girl and a lovely boy, me I just want a very heathly baby! I'm one of ten myself my mother had me, then 8 boys in a row and now I have a 3 yr old sister, people think because my mother had so many boys to get the little girl she wanted that I will do the same, they dont know me very well. I'm just greatfull for what I have! Sil has just been told that her son has very more than likely got Cerebral palsy, he had a MRI scan at our local hosital on firday we are just waiting on the out come, hes only 19 months old bless! sorry for the long post! Babymadxx

BabyMadwithBump · 25/01/2007 20:59

Loulee my due date is 3rd August, it was the 9th but I went for a 10 week dating scan and they changed it to the 3rd!

lizziemun · 25/01/2007 21:26

Uki

Thanks for your kind words.

Sorry i haven't been on all day DH took my laptop to work today, he only works in IT so they must have run out of computers today.

But no it's doesn't look good, my sister has just rung to tell me that they have now found a mass/tumor.

So i am trying not to worry to much.

tokentotty · 25/01/2007 22:27

Oh Lizzie, feel rubbish for you and wish I had something better to offer than the fact that I desperately hope this situation improves rapidly

Uki · 26/01/2007 02:00

Hi newbies-jenny, kiteflying, kaata.

lizzie-oh dear, are you far from your dad? maybe it would be god to see him, but yes you should also take it easy, and try not to worry, he will be in good hands.

I have my 12 week scan monday, I am sooo worried again. I should just re name myself. Anyone else with mild period pains at 11+3 weeks??? Don't want to have a repeat of my last pg.
Just hoping all is ok, trying to be strong but will be a mess monday morning.

need some of the new girls postive and happy vibes, keep them up.

lizziemun · 26/01/2007 08:20

I would go see him he is only in Milton Keynes Hospital at the moment and i'm in Luton so he about 40mins away, but i have got a stinking cold and i don't want to take anymore infections to him.

Hopefully be able to get to see him next week, i am just looking forward to this weekend as it dd 3rd birthday so i am putting on my happy face so she has a good time.

BabyMadwithBump · 26/01/2007 08:36

Morning ladies, I havn't been sick in 2 days which is highly good for me, but I'm getting alot of headaches at the moment and I have a dam cold and bad throt, but hopefully now that I'm in the 2nd/3rd things will start to look up, good luck with scan's and tests PG ladies just incase I dont get to update myself over the weekend as DH nicks the laptop alot! I've got to go for aother thyroid boold test next week joys!
Babymadxx

jenny132 · 26/01/2007 08:57

Lizzie - so sorry to hear about your dad, I hope you get to see him soon

Just popped on to say good morning to everyone... How are you all feeling? I'm feeling OK this morning - which feels really strange! Keep waiting for the nausea to start!! Wolfing down pineapple like there's no tomorrow...!

For those of you who work - at what point did you tell the office? My manager knows, but none of my colleagues do. Really want to tell them but should probably wait until the 12 week scan. What's everyone else doing?

conkertree · 26/01/2007 09:10

morning all - I'm the same Babymad - no sickness feelings at all for the last few days - starting to feel a bit more normal, although still off a lot of food smells.

Can feel something hardish if I press quite firmly on my tummy - very excited that the bump could be here before too long. Having so much fun telling people too.

conkertree · 26/01/2007 09:11

I waited for the 12 week scan, and was going to wait a bit longer too but then had the scan picture in my bag on the day of the scan, and just couldnt resist telling them. Was very lucky and pleased at the reception I got cause I'd been very nervous about it.

tokentotty · 26/01/2007 10:14

I'm 12 weeks next week with scan on Thursday and am going to wait until Friday to tell all and make it official with HR. Have told some people at work who are friends but all thoroughly warned to keep it quiet !! Apparently time starts going quicker when everyone knows which I'm glad to hear as this month has seemed interminably long. Anyone else found that ?

jenny132 · 26/01/2007 10:29

Oh definitely! Time seems to be going backwards... plus it's hard not telling people what's going on when you're feeling sick and have to eat constantly!! I'm sure some have guessed already.

My scan isn't until mid-Feb, so I have aaaaages to wait! I did have a scan at 8 weeks though, after I had a scare. Was amazing to see the little bean with his/her heart beating away.

UKi - just scrolled down and read your post. Try not to worry too much - I have had cramps on and off since about week 6. I think it's just your uterus expanding and everything moving around. I had bleeding and cramps at 8 weeks - and everything was just fine. Not long to wait until the scan anyway. Where are you having it done?

lilstarry1 · 26/01/2007 10:29

Wow, ok, I was hoping I'd get to read about everyone but this thread is so popular

As you can probably guess I'm pregnant and due in August (17th to be precise), so I thought I'd find people in a similar boat. Or bus, depending on how you're feeling at the moment

I'm 22, I'm already a mum to Beebe who will be an entire year old on Sunday, my DP Jim is 27 and works in computers. I've just returned to full time university in the hopes of completing my second year of my degree in English literature (with a focus on female literature).

Urm.. What else? As far as pregnancies go, this one has been hideous I was exhausted for the first 5 weeks then sick for the next 5. I spent Christmas day with my head over the toilet. Fortunately things seem to be improving. I had my first scan on Wednesday as I had absolutely no idea of dates due to lack of AF, contraception!! Determined bump this one.

I'm fairly passionate about many things, but I'm not sanctimonious, a little random and prone to rambling.
So yes, hello

BabyMadwithBump · 26/01/2007 10:38

conkertree I got very excited too when I felt the height of my fundal around 2 weeks ago just before my scan, it makes it all the more real, just cant wat to start feeling him/her move now, I felt DS#1 move and kick at around 17 weeks but a felt DS#2 move and kick at only 15 weeks, only 2 weeks to go really really cant wait, I'm starting to feel move pos about the whole PG thing before I just hated being PG!
