tomkat it's think that's what's stopping me having a private scan, for ds I had one around 8 weeks, and felt reassured for approximately 2 hours before I returned to being a crazy lady! I can't seem to think positive at all tho at the moment, I just feel like it's going to be bad news whenever I go,

ditsygal · 24/02/2016 09:42

I havn't had an early scan either. I actually would quite like one, especially as we have told several friends all ready, and it would be nice to know there was definitely a baby in there! But I know my DH wouldn't be up for spending the £100 on it that they are around here, and I can kinda see his point so I will just wait (impatiently) until the 12 weeks scan.

I will be going for a gender scan at 17 weeks though privately - I can't wait to know if this is another boy or a girl.

I am also going to get my doppler back out at somepoint after 9 weeks and see if I can find a heartbeat. I found one at around 10.5 weeks last time and it made the 12 week scan so much less stressful as I knew there was a little heart beat already!

bananafish81 · 24/02/2016 10:11

I had to have an early scan as IVF clinics can only classify you as pregnant once they've see a heartbeat.

We're having the Panorama test at 10 weeks so currently deciding if we want to know the sex before the 12 week scan!!

I think we probably will have another scan around the same time as although something could still go wrong between 10 and 12 weeks, if something has gone wrong between 7 and 10 weeks, at least we would find out earlier. The prospect of finding out about MMC at the antenatal clinic in a maternity unit full of pregnant women and babies fills me with dread.

Not sure if we will find out the sex with Panorama as I think would make mc even harder if we knew it was a baby boy or girl...

ditsygal · 24/02/2016 10:16

banana Could you maybe ask them to keep the results of a boy or girl for you and then get them after your 12 week scan if you would feel happier after that?

TheCake · 24/02/2016 10:57

Hi all,

Just been having a catch up on all of the messages. It's really hard reading about the mixture of good and bad news, especially when your emotions are all over the place anyway...

Re: early scans - I think it just depends on hospital policy. I had a TV scan when I was 8 weeks and I think that is why my scan picture was so clear. It definitely was not uncomfortable at all and its nice not having someone pressing on a full bladder! I felt very reassured seeing my scan and still do - I've had so many miscarriages I expected that I would start feeling panicked again, but actually I am being quite upbeat. In my head obviously I know I could still lose the baby, but... I'm not bleeding or cramping and I saw a baby with a heart beat so that has definitely helped me with my anxiety. But of course, everyone is different and whereas I feel better there will be plenty of others who feel more anxious.

I'm 9 weeks today and in a bit of a dilemma - my midwife told me to stop running until 16 weeks! This really shocked me as it has gone against everything else I have read. to be honest I have not run much since finding out as I have felt so tired and sick, but I did want to start again as soon as I felt better. Worried about going against midwifes advice incase something does happen and i blame myself.... WWYD???

Figgygal · 24/02/2016 12:34

Cake agreed advice seems generally to be continue with exercise did she have specific concerns?

climbingcheesecake · 24/02/2016 12:47

Hi everyone, just been catching up again.

Sorry to hear there's been some bad and worrying news. Hope everyone is ok.
and some lovely news for those that have had positive early scans.
Not much news from me, I have my first appoint with the midwife tomorrow, and scan booked for a month away! It feels so long away.
I am also struggling with not being able to continue life as normal, I have so much that I want to get done and I feel like my brain is not functioning properly and have not got the enthusiasm and motivation needed.
Exercise is slacking, work is slacking and I am quite frustrated.
I don't know what I would do cake if I was advised not to exercise - did you ask why?
I asked the doc if I could carry on doing the things I do (climbing, trail running and skiing) and he said it was fine. When I actually manage to motivate myself to get out, I feel quite good exercising, but there have been times when I realised it was pointless and had no energy so I just stopped. So I would probably take it easy, and listen to your body.

BigKicker · 24/02/2016 12:55

So jealous of all the early scans! Mine is booked for 4th April and I'm getting impatient. I'm also worried with my lack of symptoms. Last time I was throwing up constantly from 5 weeks and I've been sick twice this time and had bad diahorea for a while but I've felt fine the last few days which makes me panic. No pleasing us is there! Does anyone else feel like they look 6 months pregnant? Nothing fits me anymore!!

PunkyPod · 24/02/2016 12:55

I won't be having an early scan either.

I had one with DD as we conceived immediately after my first mc so needed to date the pregnancy. But I didn't with DS and wont with this one. Money is a key factor for us, we have a huge mortgage which we need to renew this summer and then hopefully we wont be paying quite such a massive amount. Plus I'm in the SE where scans seem to be £100 minimum. I think it would reassure me but we just cannot afford it right now. With DD I felt her moving at 16 weeks. Then with DS I felt him at 11 weeks so before the scan!! It did feel pretty amazing to go to the scan and know the baby was alive as I could feel the wiggling. I wonder when i'll feel this one......

Ladycrazycat · 24/02/2016 13:00

cake I've heard to keep exercising if you usually do and adjust if you need to. I've even heard that if you don't exercise but want to start then that's ok. Personally I'm not doing much exercise but as i live in London and commute, I end up building up quite a lot of mileage in walking!

Tonight I am seeing a friend for the first time in 2016! We were away for the first three weeks, then I found out I was pregnant and ive pretty much been at work or asleep ever since! Grin

I'm getting anxious about my early scan on Friday now although I'll be almost 9 weeks so not that early really! We are having it on the NHS as there's a small chance I could be four weeks further on than we think. I may have arranged for one privately anyway though for this time. I've read that if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks then chances of a miscarriage reduce to 2% (UK stats) or 5% (US stats) so I'm hoping it will reassure me a little until the 12 week scan.

I read yesterday that Mars Bars are being recalled in China and India and thought thank goodness they aren't hear as I really fancy one. Then today I read they are recalling them here too! Shock I think this may be the start of a craving.

Has anyone had any cravings yet? We went for lunch on Saturday for DH birthday with family to a nice restaurant and then on to a wine bar. DH left the table to get his mum a taxi and by the time he came back I had ordered myself a dessert. He was really confused when it arrived as I never order dessert and I had popped to the toilets when it arrived!

My diet in general is still pretty poor at the moment. I usually don't like to buy lunch when I'm at work but have been buying Pret soups as they are quite vegetable heavy so I figured it's an easy way to get some goodness in me. So today I've eaten a slice of leftover pizza for breakfast (which was a struggle to keep down), two digestives, two rich teas and some vegetable tagine soup. Yesterday was awful - a lot of rich teas, tuna cheese toastie (which made me feel awful), two packs of chewitts and about four slices of toast.

TheCake · 24/02/2016 13:04

climbingcheesecake and figgygirl - there are no specific reasons for me - other than I suppose my previous miscarriage history. She said the first trimester was a time for resting and not exerting your body - even though I said I had slowed down in pace and distance. I only asked the midwife because my husband's ex-wifes mum is a retired midwife and she said the same (thought she was just being old school). I think I will wait till I feel less tired and then go out again.

TheCake · 24/02/2016 13:11

Ladycrazycat what is it with toast?! I'm exactly the same - its the only thing I really want to eat and the moment. I've at least changed to wholemeal to make it a bit healthier...

Bigkicker my clothes still fit (probably not for long) as my bloating has gone down, but I have put on 2kg with too much food and not enough exercise!

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 24/02/2016 13:54

I'm very bloated today too - my work trousers are very uncomfortable, and anything digging into my stomach makes me nauseous. The glamour! I'm only 5 weeks - I made it to 20 weeks with DS before really needing maternity clothes! This time I think I'm going to have to dig out the maternity trousers just to cope with the bloating!

wondermoose · 24/02/2016 14:38

Urgh I feel like I'm dying, walking seems to be making me queasy! I also didn't need mat clothes from ages last time but my jeans are killing me already 😕
I really want to go home and go to bed!

queenoftheworld93 · 24/02/2016 16:11

missy I think I'm just nervous about discomfort! I'm only 22 so I've never had a smear test or anything like that.

Currently waiting for a call back about my booking appointment :) exciting!

Sympathies for everyone living off carbs right now. I'm only 4 + 4 and I'm the same Blush

JulietteL · 24/02/2016 16:20

FINALLY got a call from the midwife and booked in for the booking appointment on 10 March.

7+1 and slightly worried I'm already starting to show: I have a bit of a belly anyway and all my work clothes are quite form-fitting dresses (on the theory that hopefully to good curves will distract from the more unfortunate ones) and I've caught a couple of colleagues giving my midriff a not-so-subtle squint. Not much I can do about it: if I start wearing baggy clothes it'll be like wearing a neon sign!!

MsFiremanSam · 24/02/2016 16:55

Impressed by anyone even contemplating exercise! I normally do a lot but I just can't summon the energy. Last time I lost half a stone in the first trimester with sickness but this time I can't stop eating! Already had a Starbucks crossiant, chips, flapjack and biscuit today 😳
Keep telling myself I'll just get through the sickness then go back to bring healthy....

goldenpineapple · 24/02/2016 18:30

I got my booking in appointment call today too. Its not for aaaages! It'll be the exact day I'm 10 weeks. So impatient. So much waiting! Firmly in the carb club here too - i feel sick all the time, except when eating carbs. Bleaurgh.

Considering an early scan as we're going to see my grandparents next weekend (they live 4 hours away) and my grandad is really ill, it would cheer them up endlessly to know they'd be having a great-grandchild. Latest I could do it would be the Thursday, when I'd be 7 + 3 (although I reckon I ovulated late, so more like 7).

Anyone else's nipples going white on and off?! I've noticed it a few times - they go really pale, almost white!

queenoftheworld93 · 24/02/2016 18:47

I didn't get my booking in a appointment in the end :( midwife didn't phone me!

Gurzleburg · 24/02/2016 19:02

I'm currently waiting to go in for my 1st OB appointment. It was so nice to be welcomed back so warmly after having DS with them too.
I've barely eaten today as been feeling really sick and am now slightly worried about them taking blood! I'm another one with tricky veins.
They don't have scanning facilities here but she'll set up my 1st scan which I'm guessing will be in a week or so. I'm all for early scans, although I agree the reassurance doesn't last long. By the end of the pregnancy I was having three a week so I got pretty accustomed to them Grin
golden mine did that a bit last time. There is a reason but I can't remember what it is!

Northernlight22 · 24/02/2016 19:49

My early scan was referred by the midwife because of my previous miscarriage and the fact I've been suffering anxiety since my loss in the summer. I had a total meltdown at my booking in appointment!

It's a tricky one as although my scan has reassured me on one front, it's obviously uncovered another problem that I might not have known about had I waited and just had my 12 week scan.

Mine was tv as well as the regular abdominal scan - it's a breeze compared to a smear!

If it had been my first pregnancy I probably wouldn't have had an early scan but each to their own!

Ladycrazycat · 24/02/2016 19:52

I've arrived home this evening to an ultrasound letter. It seems that as the midwife booked me in for a dating scan early, they are taking this as my 12 week scan and they've booked me in for my 20 week scan for 15 weeks. That can't be right, surely?! Do you think it's an error?

Northernlight22 · 24/02/2016 21:20

I think that sounds like a mistake - give them a ring

LillianFullStop · 24/02/2016 23:29

I had my self referral over the phone today with a very friendly lady and the first thing she said was a cheerful congratulations how sweet :) quite straightforward and they'd asked about my mmc last year and that I should speak to my GP to get referred to the EPU because of my history. Strange timing as today I'd had some spotting which is freaking me out now. Trying to stay positive and mentally holding on to this bean. Thinking of booking in for a private scan instead next week as it's easier than first trying to get a GP appointment then a separate EPU appointment. It's hard enough hiding the fact at work without having to find excuses for unexplained absences!

Glad to see those happy scans on the board

Northernlight22 · 25/02/2016 07:15

Lilian, depending how your sick pay works at work you may want to tell them as you are entitled to paid time off for any maternity related appointments
