thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Oh Mor congrats on that picture it's so lovely! And You're officially ahead of me, nearly at 14 weeks eek!! Have you got your next scan booked in? Mine is for the 21st March.

I woke up in a bit of a funk this morning so I think that had a huge effect on how I felt after the gp, also I was waiting for 45 mins and felt like I went to see them when nothing was wrong (after I found out indeed nothing was wrong). Nothing to do with how she made me feel, all in my own addled head. My gp is actually lovely and it's the same one I saw when I told her I was planning TTC, I quite like her. She's told me to go back in a couple of weeks if I still haven't put any weight on. I should by now have put on about 3-4 kg and I've lost 2.5kg. I haven't had any morning sickness so it's baffling me.

Congrats Planet and welcome to the thread.

Runner05 · 09/02/2016 18:23

Thanks Mor I'll have a look although I think I've now accepted that I'm just going to have to look fat and dumpy for the next 6 months Hmm oh, and I think it's a boy Grin

Bunch I can't remember if I've said this but at 11+3 I've now lost 11lb but gained at least 3 dress sizes. My OH has informed me that I'm now defying physics by gaining volume while losing weight Confused

Hi ladies

Welcome Golden and planet!!

Runner, have you tried Asos? They have a maternity range and some nice stuff at not too hideous prices. I'm going to try to restrict what I buy to keep things to a minimum but I'll need smart casual for work and then causal stuff for weekends. I'm thinking lots of t shirts with cardigans I already have, but left open.

Mor, so exciting!! Was it amazing? How far along did you think you were compared with how far along you are?

We've got an idea of what we want nursery furniture wise but we are going to wait a while until post 12 weeks, and in the hope that there will also be a mamas and papas sale at Easter!

Morwenna1 · 09/02/2016 19:50

Yep, got my next scan booked in for the 24th March Bunch! Can't believe I've just had four days taken off my due date, that's four less days to flap around!

That's good that you like your GP. But I wouldn't worry about going to see them when nothing's wrong - you weren't to know that was the case! Better safe than sorry I always think.

You won't look fat and dumpy Runner you'll hit the 2nd tri and start glowing I'm sure! You deserve it after everything you've endured in the 1st! A boy?! Hmm! We'll have to see won't we...!

Pink I'm now 13+5 instead of 13+1 like I thought...!

Planeteer · 09/02/2016 19:54

Wow morwenna that's an actual BABY you've got there!! (The whole 'I'm growing a tiny human' thing hasn't quite sunk in for me yet, can you tell?!) Gorgeous scan pic.

When do people normally get dating scans? My idiot cycles mean I'm a bit clueless as to how upduffed I am - I reckon maybe around 4-5 weeks but would love to find out for sure!

hgleslie89 · 09/02/2016 20:12

Planteer it's usually around 12 weeks. You should get your scan date at your booking in appointment with the midwife

Newmrs22 · 09/02/2016 20:18

Eek! Mor! That's a gorgeous little baby! Congrats. Being told I'm further along than I think is the dream! Haha after last time when I got put back at least a week I don't think it's going to happen to me.

Pinklily1 · 09/02/2016 20:43

I'd also love to be further on than I think!

With the dating scan, I had my booking in appointment with the midwife and then the scan date was sent out by post about a week later.

Mileymoocow · 09/02/2016 20:47

morwenna I think boy, too! But that's a total guess based on absolutely nothing.

I feel like I've put loads of weight on already. I'm so bloated it's disgusting

shelbTa · 09/02/2016 20:50

Hi everyone!

That's an amazing pic Mor!

Bunch - are you eating normally? Can't remember if you had morning sickness?

Hi pink hi runner! Runner - new look have some decent maternity stuff.

How is everyone doing cravings wise? I'm off everything sweet now pretty much and can't get enough cheese and milk - we had some cream in the fridge and I've just taken a swig!! FFS!

X

Morwenna1 · 09/02/2016 21:01

I think it's only just starting to sink in for me and DH that it's an actual baby in there rather than a little blob Planet! Your scan could happen between 12 - 14 weeks (look at me having it at 13+5) so it's a case of waiting and seeing (there's a lot of waiting and seeing I've found). Some Trusts send out the scan date with your booking in appointment letter. My midwife sent off the scan request on the day of my booking in, and I had the next available slot. But you might also want to consider a private early scan as well.

I don't think the EDD will change now Mrs! Well, I hope not!

Ah, another who thinks it's a boy Miley! I did google various supposed methods...angle of the dangle is one of them. Although I have a few more images and I can't tell if the dangle in one scan is a leg in the other!

Pinklily1 · 09/02/2016 21:04

Angle of the dangle!!! Grin That made me chuckle!

Shelb, you swigged cream from the carton?! I'm still off all meat and most fruit and veg. Sickness isn't as bad but I now have awful reflux in the evenings. Such delights!

Morwenna1 · 09/02/2016 21:05

Thanks Shelb! I'm all over the cheese (hard cheddar, not the blue veined stuff!) If you're craving cheese and milk it could be because you're not getting enough calcium (apparently you crave what is lacking in your diet, although I'm not convinced as I crave chocolate and cake).

Also I had Butternut squash soup from Co-op = vile. Butternut Squash soup from Tesco = fine! And I went off Honeynut cornflakes for one day, but I like them again now.

shelbTa · 09/02/2016 21:15

Haha - yup pink, straight from the carton. I was like 'should I? Shouldn't I?' The shame!

Yes mor I did wonder that, I'm taking supplements, will check if it's in it. Cheese is amazing at the moment - I'm out for dinner this weekend, I've already eyed up the menu and I'm going for a cheese and onion parcel!

X

Pinklily1 · 09/02/2016 21:22

I think in times like these we can set shame aside Shelb and just embrace it!!

I'm not craving anything as such yet, it's more a list of foods that are a no go for me! How's your nausea?

I'm worried about managing to drink enough before my scan. It's at 9am so I'll have to have a litre of water somehow before that! Wouldn't usually be a problem but at the minute it's going to be a struggle to drink all of that and then not be desperate for a wee!

Runner05 · 09/02/2016 21:32

Shelb I'm the same about cheese, I just can't get enough of it most of the time. Also cucumber and lettuce are my friends. Apart from that it's more a case of eat it and hope I don't puke.

Pink I'm terrified of drinking that much before my scan. My bladder is really twitchy and I'm scared I'll have an accident to the point where I'm thinking of wearing a pad and taking spare clothes just in case. I've already had a couple of accidents when I've been sick or sneezed unexpectedly and it's so embarrassing Blush

shelbTa · 09/02/2016 21:34

It's not too bad thanks pink, yours is a bit better now? That's good.

Yeah I know re the scan! Also I'm struggling to drink enough in general at the moment - I use to drink LOADS of water but just gone right off it.

Your scan must be soon too hey as we are almost the same dates if I remember?!

X

BunchOfBobs · 09/02/2016 21:52

Hi Shelb I'm eating normally or more than I used to. No morning sickness but I had a couple of weeks at the beginning where there wasn't much I fancied eating. Tonight though apparently I no longer like spicey food. Sad

Runner and Pink I've learned from experience just to drink normally and not have a wee. A too full bladder can be as much of a hindrance and they push hard during the scan! Don't be trying to be on the verge of needing a wee, just a comfortable "I could probably have a wee".

Mileymoocow · 10/02/2016 07:41

I had to go for a kidney scan and was genuinely almost peeing myself. The sonographer told me that my bladder was too full and I didn't have to have it so I was almost peeing myself. I felt a little daft!

I'm all snotty today but with no cold. I'm just a waking mucus.

Planeteer · 10/02/2016 08:35

I've woken up feeling hungover and like I spent last night chewing on a handful of loose change. Delightful!

Have to be productive at work today, yesterday was in a total daydream and achieved basically nothing!

Shelb I applaud your 'cream from the carton' technique. A girl's gotta get her calcium! Feel certain that I'll be attacking the fridge at all hours before too long.

Mor I reckon you've got a girl in there Smile

Pinklily1 · 10/02/2016 08:39

That helps, thanks Bunch! I just panicked when the scan letter said you must have a litre of water at least an hour before the scan Shock

Shelb, my scan is on 23rd and I literally feel like I can't wait. I'm 10+5 today. Have you got your scan date yet (sorry, I can't keep track of all of the dates!)?

sophied1983 · 10/02/2016 08:40

Mor what an incredible photo! My turn next Thursday... so nervous!

Is anyone else really struggling with the stuffed up nose? Every morning, I wake up feeling like I've got a horrendous cold, sneezy and eyes sore, then by the time I'm up and about - it goes!

Co5mo · 10/02/2016 09:09

Congrats Golden and Planet.

I thought at one point last night I would be sharing bad news this morning. Woke up with excruciating one sided abdominal pain, sweaty and faint. No bleeding and the pain settled down at the point I asked DH to find us some clothes because I thought we were going to have to visit the hospital. Still a niggle of a pain but still no bleeding so fx everything's ok. GP appointment later this morning because community midwife wouldn't talk to me! I only wanted some advice. 😒

goldenpineapple · 10/02/2016 10:42

Morning everyone,

Thanks for the warm welcome - you seem like such a lovely group of ladies!

Cosmo oooh you poor thing, that sounds really scary. I hope your GP can reassure you that everything is OK in there.

Mor how incredible to see a real live baby in you! Wowzers! I'm going to go with girl (based on nothing whatsoever at all). Aaaah I want to get to scan stage, now! I think having a 'bad back' at work is a great idea - thank you - i may well use that. Not keen on telling anyone at such an early stage.

Planet yay - yesterday was a good day for BFPs Grin will be interested to fins out just how far along you are. My mouth is all metallic too today, and I just slept for 12 hours!

I was really pleased to find out that pregnant women can't change cat litter - DH not so much Grin

Pinklily1 · 10/02/2016 10:51

Sounds like there are a few scans coming up - so exciting!

Cosmo, hope you are feeling better this morning and the GP can shed some light on what caused your pain last night.
