thread #2 - TTC#1 Grads, sick bags at the ready!

Runner05 · 27/01/2016 15:07

We've finally got our BFPs and have started on the long winding road of pregnancy.

Most of us are starting, within, or just leaving the first trimester where bloating, unexplained discharge and constant nausea are watchwords of the day!

We're battling NHS inconsistencies, trying not to kill our midwives and desperately looking for a magic morning sickness cure... It's TTC#1 grads!!!

Good luck tomorrow Mor!!

Morwenna1 · 08/02/2016 21:49

Thanks everyone! I'll let you know how it goes...feeling nervous but glad that it's rolled around finally...that's fair enough Indi,we've told people who we'd want to know either way what's happening as well. Staying quiet for so long is bloody hard!

Good luck Thursday Mrs! I know what you mean about feeling nervous. Fx we'll both see some jalapeno peppers in there!

Morwenna1 · 08/02/2016 21:54

Bunch I don't know if I'm showing or just bloated still! It can't all be gas...with you on the pains front, difficult to know whether to leg it to the loo or have a lie down!

Lisa I'm surprisingly ok! Just a bit of backache, reflux in the evenings, still feel bloated (not as much as I did though), and achy pains that come and go that could be bowel related (sorry, tmi) or uterus stretching. I've got off lightly so far!

LisaTheGreek · 09/02/2016 08:51

That's good news, Mor. Hope it stays that way.

I've just had my appt with my GP (5+6 today) and she's referred me to the midwife, obviously.

One thing she said is that because I've got the Factor 5 Leiden gene (something about clotting) she's going to urgently refer me to haematology just to check, and keep them in the loop.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this? Thanks!

Co5mo · 09/02/2016 10:53

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination Lisa but you can expect closer monitoring and depending on your risk of clotting you might be offered medication to reduce your risk. Our hospital has an obstetric haematology clinic that monitors patients with F5L. You are lucky to know about it so you can be assessed in your early stages of pregnancy. Some women don't know they are a carrier until they get a complication. FX your risk is low.

5 minute completely unnecessary appointment with the practice nurse this morning. A congratulations, take folic acid, don't drink or smoke, wait for your midwife appointment and out the door. If I hadn't been off work this week I'd have been quite annoyed about having to take time out from work to book an emergency appointment just for that. No idea why it needed to be an emergency appointment. She didn't even repeat the pregnancy test so I could have filled in a form and taken a leaflet. Inefficiency in the NHS drives me crazy.

LisaTheGreek · 09/02/2016 11:05

Thanks Co5mo, that's really useful. I appreciate you responding.

Can't believe they made you book an emergency appt. I had to do a normal appt and I still have to self-refer (so seems a bit of a waste of time), but an emergency one sounds crazy.

BunchOfBobs · 09/02/2016 11:51

Morning all,

I've been to the gp, I definitely didn't have a UTI (was put on antibiotics couple of weeks ago as a precaution before NYC) and the weirdo feeling I get after peeing when I can't stand up straight is most likely due to everything moving around- because that and stretching is the answer for everything isn't it?! I'm waiting on a physio referral or something similar as I still have my sit bone pain when moving around, so I'm glad something is being done about that. I came out feeling quite teary though as felt as though I've just been a bit pathetic going to the drs for something so minor. I also have to eat more (yay snacks) as I have yet to gain any weight- despite growing out of clothes.

Is anybody doing their pelvic floor muscle exercises yet? I can't explain it but they just make me feel funny and I can't bring myself to do them. I know I'm going to massively regret it if I don't get round to it.

My shopping for baby has kicked off majorly. I wasn't going to get anything til way nearer the time but shopped whilst in NYC. It's kicked off my shopping urges. I'm now the proud owner of 4 nearly 5 slings (in a bidding war for one that ends soon) and I may have delved into the world of cloth nappies- oh they're addictive and oh so pretty! I seem to be managing to avoid clothing- mainly because I have a huge stash coming from my SIL.

Anyone planning their nurseries yet?

Mileymoocow · 09/02/2016 12:18

bunch I know what i want the nursery like and have pretty much chosen everything. Wish time would go quicker though cause I'm a very organised person and waiting to do something drives me crazy!

We're going neutral cause we're still undecided if we're finding out sex plus I just really don't like pink, being the tomboy I am

BunchOfBobs · 09/02/2016 12:30

Miley we're also going neutral- the room is already grey and it's staying so but we will be finding out the sex. I've already told family if it's a girl then pink is banned!
I currently have beautiful antique furniture in the room which I think will stay, a gorgeous walnut chest of drawers and a cherry wood wardrobe. I can use the drawers and we plan on moving within the next couple of years, then I'll get new furniture.

The current plan is to have a theme of clouds in the room but I so want to do Harry Potter nursery- DH won't go for it though- kill joy!

goldenpineapple · 09/02/2016 12:48

Hello! Thanks Miley for linking me over here from the conception thread. Just got my BFP this morning after 5 cycles of ttc & it all feels a bit surreal. I'm off work this week using up annual leave days and currently sitting in my pajamas watching crap TV and can't stop looking at my two pink lines on the test! I just can't believe it!

I rang the doctor this morn and have an initial appt next Thurs, I wanted to raise some concerns about a couple of things before then so the receptionist told me to call 111 - I haven't yet as I don't want to waste their time. It's just that I cycle to work usually and now not sure if I should - any other cyclists here? Also, my job involves some lifting, which I'm worried about.

Really pleased to be joining in with you all and it's very exciting to see people's nursery plans!

BunchOfBobs · 09/02/2016 12:59

Congrats Golden and welcome to the grad thread.
The gross talk doesn't end at TTC.

From what I know from friends/ex colleges they found cycling fine. It's a general rule of if you already did it then it's fine to carry on with any exercise business.

How heavy is the lifting? I still lift weights and haul heavy boxes around the house with the endless kitchen re fit that WILL be finished this weekend probably not. I think listen to your body, if you need to sit down and have a rest, then do so. BUT it may be worth talking to your employer soon if your job involves lifting etc as they may need to do a health risk assessment thingamajig for you.

IndiX · 09/02/2016 13:04

Congrats golden! I was the same when I got my 2 lines, just kept staring at them all day. I'm not a cyclist but I do go to the gym 5/6 times a week and have not stopped doing what I usually do. I do spin, circuits, boxercise and some weights and everything is fine so far. I have cut down on running though as my boobs are so sore bouncing up and down! I'm 5w today.

I'm so excited to start buying nursery furniture, I'm thinking of creams and ivory maybe touches of gold. I do want to find out the sex and I do love pink and baby blue but I just wouldn't want a whole nursery covered in it. It's so exciting isn't it!!

goldenpineapple · 09/02/2016 13:09

Thanks Bunch !

Not so worried about the exercise side of cycling - more like the risk of falling off and causing a mc ? Having said that, in 2 years of cycling that route I have never fallen off! It includes busy roads.

The lifting is varied - I manage a charity shop & so it depends what people donate! Anything from bin bags of clothes, boxes of books to really heavy boxes of assorted crap treasure! Sometimes there are volunteers to help, sometimes not.

Maybe I'm being over-anxious?!

goldenpineapple · 09/02/2016 13:12

Oops, cross post! Thanks Indi! V impressed with your exercise regime!

Touches of gold in nursery - yes yes yes! Love it!!

hgleslie89 · 09/02/2016 13:14

Bunch we're nursery planning as well. Keeping it neutral as we're not finding out the gender. Not really got very far, but found a cot we both love: www.cosatto.com/explore-our-range/products/bath-and-bed/cots-and-cotbeds/story/owlet

IndiX · 09/02/2016 13:19

Golden you wouldn't be impressed right now, haven't actually been to the gym properly for 3 days exhaustion has definitely set in plus DH had a few days off and have just eaten everything in sight since Saturday. Lent starts tomorrow and so does my SUPER healthy regime Grin but for now I will enjoy pancakes and chocolate and anything else I can grab Wink

Planeteer · 09/02/2016 15:25

Hi all. Jumping over from the ttc thread after a rather surprising bfp this morning! CB digital says 3+ weeks and has left me pretty gobsmacked.

Feeling confused but very happy and have achieved basically zilch at work all day Smile. Looking forward to a catch up of this thread later and getting to know you all.

Runner05 · 09/02/2016 15:55

Bunch you should not let the GP make you feel pathetic! You are pregnant and it's their job to make sure all is well.
I can relate to the worry about not putting on weight. I have officially grown out of all my clothes and yet have lost 11lb since getting pregnant!! Getting a little worried about it now as I'm sure I should be gaining some weight by now Confused
I've been sporadically doing my pelvic floor exercises but I keep forgetting... Plus I can't do them without wiggling my eyebrows Hmm
No baby stuff here yet but I have the entire nursery planned and furniture and decorations picked. Just need to wait and see whether I'm having a girl or a boy now.

Welcome Golden congrats.
If your job involves lifting you'll have to tell them early because they'll need to do a safety assessment on you. It's a legal requirement for them so the sooner the better.

Congrats Planet welcome to grads!

I've spent all flipping day trying to buy maternity clothes but I'm having no luck what so ever! Why is it that all maternity clothes are either disgustingly ugly or insanely expensive or both and why the heck do they only use 20 year old stick figure models. I mean, I'm sure some pregnant women do look like that but I'm sure many more look closer to 30 and a bit on the podgy side (especially in late pregnancy).
It's driving me crazy as hopefully I'll be going back to work after next week and the only clothes I have that fit are two oversized tops and a pair of maternity jeans. I'm getting a bit desperate Sad

Hi All, so I'm a bit further on than I thought! 13+5! All looking good in there, including the nuchal fold, so I've just got to wait for the results now. So relieved after my minimal symptoms...

Hi Golden and Planet! [grins]

Bunch What Runner said - definitely don't worry about 'bothering' your GP. That's what they are there for. And if they are anything like mine they'll let you know when your time's up because they have 10 more patients waiting!

Golden I've had a bad back for the last few months. (Ironically I now have actually been suffering with a bad back! Completely unrelated to work). It's worked. Just think of a way in which you put it out and then ask other people politely if they could manage moving boxes and you do other tasks like admin etc. Your employer is legally obliged to do a risk assessment for you when you tell them, but you are not legally obliged to tell your employer (until 15 weeks before your due date). So if you want to keep it quiet for now (don't blame you) no-ones going to argue with you if you say you have a bad back.

Morwenna1 · 09/02/2016 16:28

Bunch I am trying to remember to do my Kegel's! Must try harder!

Runner05 · 09/02/2016 16:32

Eeee Mor look at that scan!!! That's a really clear one Grin you must be chuffed!!!

Are you going to find out the sex? Are we allowed to guess?

OP posts:
Runner05 · 09/02/2016 16:33

Getting a bit teary and pathetic over having no clothes that fit now Sad stupid but I can't help it argh!

Morwenna1 · 09/02/2016 17:04

Smile I am Runner! So nervous yesterday. I didn't sleep a wink last night.

We're still undecided whether to find out the sex, we'll have to make our minds up closer to the 20 week scan! But by all means, if you fancy hazarding a guess go for it! Er, how do you tell? I think I read something about it being the position of the placenta?

As for clothes, check this out (they have even more off than when I bought! grr) www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/category/sale-offers-3422804/view-all-sale-4527816?geoip=noredirect#pageSize=20&catalogId=33053&viewAllFlag=false&langId=-1&storeId=12552&categoryId=291043&pageNum=1&beginIndex=1&endIndex=null&pageFlag=s_20&N=15622+24899&siteId=%2F12552&sort_field=Relevance&No=20&Nrpp=20&catId=291043&parent_categoryId=291042&thirdCategoryId=291056

Morwenna1 · 09/02/2016 17:09

Just had another look and they only have certain sizes (not mine!) in the things I like....sod's law!

hgleslie89 · 09/02/2016 17:35

Runner I got some bits in New Look. I'm quite lucky that I can dress casually as work so that helps.
