OK, OK, so we already had a couple of babies on the last thread, but we're going to struggle to keep up with the number of new arrivals in this one!!!

I'm in Canada:) it is called a sweep as well (though GP said 'rimming' today).

Did anyone have s painful sweep?

Troika · 26/01/2016 19:55

Rimming??? Rimming as I've heard of it isn't something a medical professional would be offering.

Troika · 26/01/2016 19:56
Grin
MaisieDotes · 26/01/2016 20:02

troika you're more forthright than I am Grin

Sorry gold!

madsaz76 · 26/01/2016 20:38

I'm glad I am not the only one - goldmaple definitely don't check the urban dictionary! I can see how the description makes sense though.

Maybe it is nesting. I've always liked a messy cleaning job rather than a tidy. There's plenty I could tidy that I am ignoring - considering suggesting to DH he does all that

Maybe it is nesting Smile

haquoi123 · 26/01/2016 20:38

Yup, I know the term rimming as something very different as well...! Grin I don't have personal experience of a sweep but the hypnobirthing philosophy is that baby basically won't come until baby is ready and sweeps might get something started, but you can essentially be niggling away until the baby is ready, rather than not being in labour until the baby is ready. Meaning, the timeline is the same but the experience of it changes. This is just one opinion though (and not in anyway said to frighten or shame anyone, as far as I'm concerned, each to their own!)

mad before reading your post I thought 'oooh, what a lovely bubble bath!' Maybe not so lovely with the cleaning agents. How did your DH take it?

Lots of lower back ache so I reckon he's descending, but tbh he's still spinning around and occasionally up under my ribs so obv hadn't found a comfy position yet. My nana's also pretty unwell so my mum has dashed down to see her and really doesn't want me to go into labour until she's back... There are no signs so I'm not worried, but I do hope he'll come in time for us to introduce him to my nana.

oneconfusedchick · 26/01/2016 21:48

Oh god I am laughing so much about the rimming Grin - I think I would definitely reject the rimming if I were u ;)

clumsypots · 26/01/2016 23:04

Thanks everyone!

Birth story for anyone who wants to know. It was really straightforward, had lots of lower backache and what I thought were strong braxton hicks at work yesterday (only 37+2) waters went at 9 at night with a pop called the hospital who told me to come in straight away as I was high risk. Only 1.5 cm on arrival (around 11pm as I hadn't got any bags packed) so sent up to antenatal ward to 'rest'. After a bath and lots more back ache and contractions finally called midwife into see us who started preparing to deliver baby there and then, I did manage to get to labour ward and he was born in 12 minutes. Slight graze and no stitches.

I would refuse the rimming if I were you Grin sweep may work though.

HumanSlowCooker · 27/01/2016 00:14

Hi!!
I've not been on much since the very early days but now I'm 2 weeks off my CS date and thought I'd pop in and meet people! Can anybody tell me how to find the Facebook group? I suspect it will come in pretty handy for all those middle of the night feeds in the coming months!!!

IslaMann · 27/01/2016 00:33

Human if you pm me with your name as it is on Facebook, and descriptions of your profile and cover pics I'll send you a friend request. Once we're friends I can add you to the group.

HumanSlowCooker · 27/01/2016 00:42

Thanks Isla!

MaisieDotes · 27/01/2016 00:53

Oh wow clumsy I'm so jealous!

Congrats again! Smile

goldmaple · 27/01/2016 05:21

I vaguely knew what urban dictionary 'rimming' was- but I just double checked!!

I will say no to rimming, but yes to the sweep... Hmm And hope the GP doesn't ask me to elaborate!!Smile

clumsy that birth story is amazing! I'll keep my fingers crossed for a similar experience for all of us!

NorthernChinchilla · 27/01/2016 07:18

I was being awfully British and not wanting to say about the slightly deviant practises that seem to be on offer elsewhere, so glad the cultural misunderstanding has been cleared up! One to remember if you're pregnant in Canada though Grin

clumsy that sounds marvellous. If I could guarantee a vaginally birth like that I'd be first in the queue.

What did your OH say about your attempt to recreate an Ibiza foam party in your bathroom mad?

Troika · 27/01/2016 08:02

Clumsy what a great birthday story! Sorry for ignoring your announcement yesterday, I was too busy having hysterics over golds doctor offering her a rimming.

And gold thank you for not being offended by my immaturity!

jellypi3 · 27/01/2016 08:18

Great birth story clumsy :)

MaisieDotes · 27/01/2016 08:30

I'm 40 weeks today!

Come on baby!

Newlywed123 · 27/01/2016 08:36

Wow Clumsy a massive congratulations!!

How is everyone today?

I haven't felt this drained/ exhausted in a very long time. Contractions started at 6 last last night nothing really strong, but every 15 minutes. By 10 I had bloody discharge, contractions were every 10 mainly in my back and a lot strong. Not breathe taking but I did have to breathe through them. Kept me awake until 2am, was on and off napping in between contractions until a big one woke me up at 3. Went to the toilet, back on bad and must of gone off. Woke up at 5 to just feeling incredibly Achy!

On the plus side though my Daughter has been waking at 4.30 and has been unsettled. She slept 7-8.15 Grin

MaryEllen1 · 27/01/2016 08:49

Hope my birthing experience is like yours clumsy

Did snigger at the rimming but was thinking do I say anything or not Grin

Midwife appt today, 35 week appt.

NorthernChinchilla · 27/01/2016 09:11

I'm still waiting to hear about my growth scan for my allegedly phenomenally inflating bump. MW said the scan itself would be within a week, but my appointment with her was last Thursday and I've not heard a thing.
There is an end date to this process beyond which the scan may be a little redundant Hmm!!

HandbagFan · 27/01/2016 09:53

Congratulations clumsy and thank you for proving thee is hope for us all - a straight forward birth story!

Feeling very tired today so will be mostly lounging round the house. Currently debating the health merits of a jam do night for breakfast - are they that different from jam on toast?

madsaz76 · 27/01/2016 10:05

clumsy great birth story

newlywed sounds exhausting. Only thing I can think is that with all this practice when baby finally comes hopefully all will be smooth - fingers crossed

northern he took it quite well. There was an impressive amount of filth came out so I claimed it was justified. Have persuaded him he's got to steam clean the tiles Smile

Littleoakhorn · 27/01/2016 10:20

clumsy congratulations!

These on - off contractions sound awful, huge sympathy to those of you having them.

Troika · 27/01/2016 12:47

Fingers crossed not too much longer newlywed

Handbag hope you had the doughnut and enjoyed it!

Northern reminds me of when I had ds I was in the ward waiting to be discharged and my phone rang, it was the hospital antenatal clinic (next door to the ward) telling me I was late for my consultant appointment to be induced and did I need to rearrange Grin I was like, um well I had the baby 4 hours ago so probably not...

haquoi123 · 27/01/2016 13:00

handbag you've given me a Homer Simpson moment over that doughnut. I had to stop buying them after I ate 3 for breakfast when I was in the 2nd trimester 'stuffing my face' stage.

newlywed gah that sounds frustrating!! Hopefully it'll all being doing some good and won't be a tease much longer

maisie sending birthing vibes your way!! Are you the first to have reached your due date?

I've been asking anyone with (regular) period pains to send some my way in the form of contractions. Got a bit emotional this morning,'it's never going to happen!' (silly billy, I'm only 38+4. Patience has never been my forte)
