Hi ladies,

I've been TTC2 for 1.5 years and I've just found out I'm pregnant Smile 1 day before Xmas eve! Best present ever! Anyone else celebrating a bfp this Christmas? I've already had to dodge chocolate mousse, champagne and Stilton...all worth it though!! Grin

Morning all,

Can I ask, are you taking partners/husbands to your booking in appt?

My partner is very keen to come (our 1st) and I wanted him there but thinking that's maybe not the norm.

Thanks!

MillieMoodle · 22/01/2016 09:16

Morning all

Have my booking in appointment this morning, eek! Will report back later.

New - DH came with me when I had my booking appointment for DS, but he's not coming this time. He didn't come to any subsequent appointments though (except some of the scans). This time he's saving his holiday to book time off to attend the scans; last time I had a lot of scans as DS was an awkward so-and-so, and wouldn't stay in the right position and he didn't have enough holiday left to come to the last one.

MargaretCabbage · 22/01/2016 09:16

Got my booking in appointment at 12.00. I think there's a few of us with our appointment today isn't there? Got to remember to take my big handbag to hide my notes, last time I was rumbled on the way home when DH's friend spotted us carrying them.

New, my DH came to my last one. I know sometimes they ask partners to leave the room or wait outside so they can ask about domestic violence. He wanted to come this time but it's more sensible if he looks after DS so I can go on my own.

Thethingidontfancy · 22/01/2016 09:17

Hi new

I did take my husband the first time and it certainly wasn't a problem with our midwife. Not sure he will come this time as his work is now v crazy. Think it's really positive that he is interested and want to be there!

Newtothevillage · 22/01/2016 09:21

Fab thanks all. He'll be coming along then.

peardrop2 · 22/01/2016 09:25

Ahh I'm so Envy of you all with booking appts today. I still have 1.5 weeks to wait for mine. Good luck!!

I didn't take my DH last time and I won't this time. He's probably going to be working like last time. He came to all the scans we had. I don't see anything wrong with taking your DH to the midwife appts if that's what you want to do. I've seen DH's in the waiting room before, especially towards the end of the pregnancy!

Those of you with appts, how far along are you? Are some of us 12 wks already??

I wont be taking DH along to the booking appt as all they do is dip your wee and listen for a heartbeat and we'll have heard it by then ourselves at home.

No scans here till 20 weeks and thats the only one you get.

sophied1983 · 22/01/2016 10:32

I have my booking in appointment next Thurs - exactly 9 weeks and scan on 18th Feb which is exactly 12 weeks.

Sx

OTheHugeManatee · 22/01/2016 10:35

I think the earliest for an EDD in Sep 16 would be 8-9 weeks Smile

DH isn't coming to my booking in appt - the MWs here prefer to see you on your own for booking in. He'll be coming with me to scans though - both of us would prefer him there - and assuming all well to antenatal later on.

Gah. Feeling sick as a sicky thing today. Not actual pukey sick, it takes quite a lot to make me pukey, but like I'm permanently carsick. The only reason I can bear it is that it's helping to reassure me that the bean is alive and kicking. I had a mmc at 9wks last year so I think I'm going to be quite anxious until I get past the 12wk scan.

Fifi10 · 22/01/2016 10:44

My booking appt was Tues (8-9 weeks). Didn't take DP as DM said he would be bored by it, I fainted in the appt. and wished I had asked him to come with me. They didn't listen to the heartbeat though as I don't think it's the recommended so early on?

wornoutboots · 22/01/2016 10:45

my mmc was two children ago.

I didn't stop streessing about them until I got them home though.

MargaretCabbage · 22/01/2016 10:51

They listen to the heartbeat at 16 weeks here, but I know it's later in some areas. DH came to that one too, he was really excited about it. Smile At the time he worked just down the road from the GP surgery so came to the appointments during his lunch break.

Kitkatmonster · 22/01/2016 11:07

Had my booking this morning. Was a bit rushed but that's OK. She was clearly very busy! My OH didn't come, but it is our 3rd time through this! Mw dated me from LMP, except I only know the week not the actual first day so I think it's probably inaccurate and I'm pretty sure I know when I conceived, but scan will alter it anyway. So she has due date as 30/8 - I think 3/9. She put me down as 8 weeks +, I think I'm 7+5.

Next appt will be scan and bloods/screening. She was going to fax referral at the end of the clinic and said I should get appt date between 13-26 Feb, hospital will post it to me. Next appt with her at 16 weeks.

Still doesn't feel much more real, except I now have a big pack of notes! One thing annoyed me, she said that they now plot growth charts for baby and as my first was quite small they may decide to put under consultant led for extra scans. She was quick to say if all is fine they'll transfer me back to midwife led, but as I want home or birth centre birth I wasn't impressed at the thought of being consultant led. Especially as my 2nd was a birth centre birth and weighed much more. Only difference being that they must not have done this same check then? I was never consultant led or had extra scans... Anyway, best to save my energy on this one until I actually need to have a fight, no point stressing about a maybe is there?

Have opted in to all screening, declined flu jab and will have a think about the whooping cough jab (another new thing for me!)

Fifi10 · 22/01/2016 11:12

KitKat My mw didn't worked out my due date or anything- should she have done? I'd worked it out myself from LMP but I seriously doubt that I'm that accurate and she didn't ask me for any dates at all. I also wasn't offered flu jab or whooping cough... Confused

Kitkatmonster · 22/01/2016 11:17

I don't know fifi did she ask you for the date you had worked out? Did you get a pack of handheld notes? Mine said flu jab would be a now thing, whooping cough they do later (I think 20+ weeks?) And I could have a think about it.

Fifi10 · 22/01/2016 11:36

kitkat Nope I came away with nothing other than a copy of Emma's diary and told to fill in the form for free vouchers Confused

Tbh I was very underwhelmed by the whole thing, especially as it's my first. I don't know if it was because she had a student with her. I have literally no information on who to ring in case of emergency/ questions. And no she didn't ask for any dates, but told me not to expect scan any time soon as it might be after 14w as hospitals are very busy.

I know it's wrong but I might get my DM(mw) to make some enquiries about who this woman is and what's going on as it doesn't sound right at all. I was trying not to involved DM as it's a bit of a conflict on interests but I didn't even get told about folic acid/ foods to avoid it's just fortunate that DM had already drilled this into me!

Kitkatmonster · 22/01/2016 11:50

fifi that does sound a bit odd, I know all areas are different but I would have expected the basics covered - my appt was basically to fill in the info on the handheld notes, so working out dates, medical history, birth history, who's at home etc. Like I said it was a bit rushed (she couldn't have talked faster if she'd tried) but it was thorough. Had BMI calculated, she asked about smoking, alcohol, drugs etc, had a CO test (blow into a tube - smoking related I think, I wondered if it was to check if people were lying about being non smokers) and she went over antenatal screening, folic acid, do you want me to run through what you can and can't eat? I said no to that. Your booking sounds very uninformative - was it at GP surgery?

bailey23 · 22/01/2016 11:54

Hi ladies, I found out last Saturday that I'm pregnant with my first baby! Our little alien (DH's affectionate name for them!) is due to arrive 14th September so I'm now 6+2.
Is it just me or is anyone else finding it really hard not to blab to everybody?!

SewSlapdash · 22/01/2016 12:18

fifi I would be asking questions about the scan date in particular - I think that the unchallenged fold can be less accurate if they can't do it within a certain window of 12 weeks.

On the other hand, I'm afraid a lot of your appointments will probably be underwhelming. It is an anticlimax when you're so excited and anxious, it's not just you.

Be careful when filling out that form for free vouchers, Bounty and Emma's diary are bastards for clogging up your inbox and selling your details. The free vouchers aren't always worth bothering with.

Kitkatmonster · 22/01/2016 12:19

I was bailey but I've found I quite like my secret as time has gone on! I have told my parents, in laws and sister though! We have 2 older children so want them to know next but want to be as sure as we can that all is OK so as not to risk upsetting them if the worst happens. Hoping once we've had scan I can tell them. Not bothered about everyone else, I'm expecting the kids won't be able to keep it quiet so they'll do my announcements for me :)

SewSlapdash · 22/01/2016 12:20

bailey me too. I have already told people from my last baby bus, my sister, and 2 people at work who I can rely on to keep schtum and I'm going to crack and tell my parents tonight Blush

On the other hand, somehow since this is dc2 it seems more important that I manage to get to 12 weeks without my immediate team/boss knowing - since I went pt already, I am keen for them to be surprised and think how well I have done to soldier on, not think that I am lacking commitment already!

Fifi10 · 22/01/2016 12:36

KitKat Yes it was at GP surgery. They did BMI, blood tests (I fainted and spent rest of the appointment lying down). It was a student mw and the actual mw spent most of the time out of the room, so don't know if she just assumed that the student had covered it all? I was given the hard sell about bf which I thought was besides the point at this stage!! At one point the mw came in whilst I was explaining to student what ehlers danlos and POTs is (and spelling it!), to which the mw said oh you'll be consultant led anyway so they'll cover that.

I'm not seeing mw again until late March. Following the mw apt I am having a private dating scan tomorrow so that if my dates are wrong (highly likely!) I can then try and argue the case for getting my nucal fold scan done within that 12 week window. Though I don't know who you'd ring to do the arguing as I have no phone numbers or details.

Bailey23 welcome and congrats. The only person I told was DM and I've let her tell those who need to know as it's all a bit surreal atm.

spacepoodle · 22/01/2016 15:05

Frazzle My DH bought me gig tickets as a Christmas present. The gig is at the end of May and he managed to swap them for seated tickets. I have no idea how I'll be feeling then but I didn't want to risk it!

Jealous of everyone with booking appointments! I filled in a self-referral form 2 weeks ago and still haven't had my appointment letter. I called last week to check they had received my form and it's apparently being processed. Does anyone else have experience of Lewisham Hospital? Any idea how long it might take for them to sort it out?

I'm 6 weeks tomorrow and was expecting to feel pretty horrible by now as I'm a generally sicky person. Feeling exhausted but otherwise a lot better than I did two weeks ago!

chillthefXXkout · 22/01/2016 15:07

Afternoon ladies! I had my GP appointment this morning and have my booking in appointment with the midwife on 18th February which seems like a lifetime away! The GP has ordered an early dating scan which will hopefully be soon as we have no idea how many weeks I am due to crazy erratic cycles - although I think I am only 4+5...so maybe due 25th Sept?? But that's if the online due date calculator I found is correct!

It sounds like midwife/GP experiences are a bit hit and miss!

Does anyone else look about 6 months already due to bloating? I swear I look enormous already!

FrazzleRock · 22/01/2016 15:15

chill yes I'm bloody huge already. Embarrassing knowing the baby is so teeny weeny, but I cannot hold it in! It's making it hard to disguise at work
