Hi ladies,

I've been TTC2 for 1.5 years and I've just found out I'm pregnant Smile 1 day before Xmas eve! Best present ever! Anyone else celebrating a bfp this Christmas? I've already had to dodge chocolate mousse, champagne and Stilton...all worth it though!! Grin

wornoutboots · 25/01/2016 15:28

what would you do?

I have tonsillitis. do I keep this friday's appointment to finally see a midwife or cancel and move it to a later date?

peardrop2 · 25/01/2016 15:55

Frazzle - wow that's great. I am Envy Grin I so wish now that I could get an early scan. Feels better knowing I'll see the midwife in one week. Did you take your children to the scan?

Time is going so slowly :-(

W - Tonsillitis is catching so I'm not sure how impressed your midwife will be. Why don't you ring up and ask?

So much to catch up on. Was someone talking about a Facebook group earlier in the thread? I'd be up for that, might be easier to keep track of conversations...

worn are you a regular sufferer? Friday's quite a way off, unless it's bacterial I would have hoped symptoms would be going by then? I think I'd wait and see for another few days.

So my kids have gone to school and told everyone. Not sure how I feel about that but I guess it's to be expected. I have a weird lower back pain this afternoon, right sided, kind of kidney area. No idea what would have caused it but hoping nothing baby related. No sickness for me today, just nausea but not too bad as long as I eat regularly.

FrazzleRock · 25/01/2016 16:25

wornoutboots I have never ever had tonsillitus so I couldn't give you advice but I've heard it is fucking horrid. Maybe wait until Weds and see if you think you're improving? If you still feel like death then cancel or call them to see what they think?

Peardrop No my children don't know about the baby yet. DP came with me and I think it's sunk in even more now. We were both grinning away on the way home. I'm supposed to be wfh today but can't concentrate!
Tinme really is going slowly. Another 7 weeks until the 12 weeker. I don't want to wish this pregnancy away though as it'll be my last, but stiiiiiiillll...
I'm also dying to tell everyone and we've decided to wait until 12 weeks for the big reveal. At least we have the house selling and buying to keep us occupied.

Kitkat I guess it's hard for kids to keep something like that a secret!
Re the pain, maybe ust twinges, things are always moving around aren't they to make space. I keep pulling lower abdominal muscles just from getting up from lying down and I'm generally pretty fit with the running I do.

When are people telling their employers? I'm thinking of telling my little team and my line manager this week as we're all very very close and they will guess. But a strictly confidential basis. Not sure if a good idea or not... I'm up for a pay rise in April but there's no way I can wait until then.
What to do....

FrazzleRock · 25/01/2016 16:26

Oh FB group might be good. Can put faces to names then. Although I'd get confused with RL names and MN names!

Fifi10 · 25/01/2016 16:40

Afternoon all, I'm also catching up on posts

ohanami do you know when you start seeing the consultant? I've been told I am to be consultant led (joint/heart conditions) but as it's my first I have no idea how it all works

I had my private scan at the weekend- it's definitely only one baby and all looks good. On Saturday I was officially 9w1 so good to know my dates were roughly right. We saw lots of movement, punching, wiggling and a proper heartbeat so was well worth paying for a private appt. DP then finally told his parents and having the photos helped I think as they didn't believe him.

Kitkatmonster · 25/01/2016 16:41

frazzle just read back and saw you had a scan! Was it private or an NHS early one? I have a private one booked for Friday and I'm feeling a bit funny about it because I don't have money to burn right now but I need to know all is OK. Did they do abdominal? Also freaking out that they will want to do a vaginal scan when I go which I really can't stand the thought of - I'll be almost 9 weeks - abdo will be fine won't it? I'm jealous that you've had that reassurance today :)

FrazzleRock · 25/01/2016 16:51

kitkat It was an NHS one as my cycles are all over the place due to PCOS so it's the only way of knowing my EDD. We only saw the sac though as I'm still only 5 weeks. This will be the longest pregnancy ever. Feel like I've been pregnant about 12 weeks already.
It was done internally so not the most pkleasant experience but I'm kind of used to it with PCOS issues!
Great news fifi!! I can't wait to see a little wriggler in there, rather than a black hole! Grin

Fifi10 · 25/01/2016 16:53

kitkat my private one at 9weeks was abdo only, just very low down! Though they had pre-warned me about the trans-vag scan if my dates were wrong.

chillthefXXkout · 25/01/2016 17:06

Hello ladies! All the scan updates are very exciting! I think a Facebook post is a great idea Smile

I have nothing to report other than to wholeheartedly agree with Frazzle that this will be the longest pregnancy ever - I'm around 5 weeks (I think) and I have no symptoms so each day I'm wishing for it to be further along and for me to be retching into the nearest bucket with morning sickness for some reassurance that things are 'happening'. Mad times Grin

I'm waiting for an appointment letter for an early NHS scan as my cycles are so erratic that we need to have a dating scan. If I wasn't getting it on the NHS I'd probably pay for one for reassurance, even though it's pricey.

I hope you feel better soon wornoutboots tonsillitis can be so awful Flowers

bananamonkey · 25/01/2016 17:16

Hi everyone, especially newbies, is anyone else having crippling bloatedness? If so any tips for how to deal with it? I've had it a week now and the cramps are agony, also its not very work friendly having to dash off to the loo frequently and finding that standing/lying down are the only comfortable positions!

As far as I can tell it happens because progesterone slows down digestive transit, so have tried eating little and often and am mainlining the Deflatines but it's still a pain and I look about 6 months gone.

JayBeanie · 25/01/2016 17:18

I had my flu jab today, the nurse said it was the earliest she's ever done a flu jab in pregnancy and even called the manufacturer to make sure it was ok Hmm
My partner has 2 kids, 9 and 10 so we'll have a big age gap even though they aren't mine. We asked them how they'd feel about us having one and they were both excited but they don't know I'm pregnant yet. kitkat they would definitely tell the whole world including their mum who is the last person I want to know...
Frazzle I told my manager last week (v early) but he was amazing when I took time off for my mmc and I figured it's better to tell him now so I have an excuse for avoiding stress at work. I completely trust him not to tell anyone else though.

SewSlapdash · 25/01/2016 18:17

Struggled this afternoon with DS who chuntered away for an hour and 20 minutes refusing to have a nap, but who acted up all afternoon as a result. DH is out at a function, so I'll have to do bedtime on my own, joy.

Told respective parents this weekend, who are all thrilled. Both my DM and MIL had both asked within the last few months if/when we might be having another and I told them to bugger off and mind their own business, basically.

For some reason it seems more important than last time to keep it quiet at work until 12 weeks though.

MillieMoodle · 25/01/2016 19:03

Evening all!

Congrats to those who have just joined us, and to those who've had scans recently!

Have had nausea today and suffering with ridiculous exhaustion, can barely function. Travel sickness bands have helped take the edge off the nausea a bit, although I can't say I feel great. I'm just wishing away the time until our scan, have got 3.5 weeks to wait and it feels like time has stopped altogether!

ohanami · 25/01/2016 19:43

fifi I've been told to expect my first consultant appointment at the same time as my 12 week scan. I don't know if that's standard or based on how things went last time though. I was midwife led last time until 33+1 (and had a baby at 33+5) so have no idea what to expect.

I've booked a private scan for the weekend when I'll be 8+5ish. It's purely for reassurance purposes - I won't get a date for the nhs scan until I'm 11 weeks so who knows when that'll come...

I like the idea of a fb group but might stick to mumsnet for a few more weeks. Someone might have already set one up but I can't remember the name.

Fifi10 · 25/01/2016 20:05

ohanami thanks, I'm waiting for confirmation of when my 12 week scan is so maybe there will be more information in that letter or another letter coming in the post. All a bit confusing!

globetrotter2016 · 25/01/2016 21:02

Talking about confusing- still haven't heard anything from MW.. no booking appointment date no scan date and I am 8+4 today... when do people usually have their booking appointments?

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 25/01/2016 21:14

Just catching up. I've told a few people as I'm rubbish at keeping secrets and its people I know would support me/wouldn't be able to hide if God forbid it doesn't end happily. That includes my team mates at work (I'm a teacher) as I think it's important someone knows there in case I collapse or the sickness kicks in and I'm running out my classroom all the time like my last pregnancy.

5+3 today; still just feeling tired really. Trying to resist urge to poas again!

Sharesinpampers · 25/01/2016 21:14

Hi Globe, I have my booking in this week which is 10+2 according to my LMP and is the date they're going by. I think it was around 10 weeks last time too. Hope you get your appointment soon

globetrotter2016 · 25/01/2016 21:23

Thanks a lot Shares! I'm getting a bit inpatient and want someone to tell me this is "real". My nausea disappeared basically completely 2 weeks ago and this has made me super paranoid!

MoonriseKingdom · 25/01/2016 21:38

Only my DH knows so far. Don't think anything will seem real until I see a heart beat. I am a bit of a worrier and think the worst whereas my DH is a relentless optimist. Think I might tell my mum soon because she stays with us once a week the night before she looks after my DD and I could do with someone to chat too (apart from you lovely lot!).

MoonriseKingdom · 25/01/2016 21:40

Hope the GP was helpful Icklekid and you are feeling a bit better.

Annarose2014 · 25/01/2016 21:47

Re FB groups. On my last antenatal thread someone set up a FB group and everyone decamped and there was nobody left on MN! Turns out nobody had time to participate on two at the same time.

It was a bit of a shame. Sad

Kitkatmonster · 25/01/2016 21:57

I think someone was setting up a group but I'm not relishing trawling through to find out who/what. I'm hoping they may check back in and remind us all of the details ;)

I can see it would be hard to do both and why people might decamp, fb easier for me, mumsnet doesn't have an app does it? Or have I missed it? Find it a bit fussy going in and out especially on phone.

Kitkatmonster · 25/01/2016 22:01

Feel like the whole playground world knows here. It does save me the bother though, I'm not great with attention and won't relish congratulations in public - won't be doing the fb announcement either, saw one pop up last week and I just cringed inside, but having said that I think it's a bit different with your first, more exciting in a way so I can see why people want to share their excitement.
