Ha ha FourFor, we had a tummy tub for DC1... Used it once (couldn't fathom how the hell to wash baby without drowning risk and couldn't get arm in to hold baby up!) and ended up using it as my puke bucket!! Grin Didn't look back on my 49p purchase though since been used as another puke bucket so will have to invest in another one! Wink

I made a decision last night. I don't know how my mind works as I was very against it (just me doing it, not the idea of anyone doing it) but I am going to breastfeed. A responsible decision came from this bag of hormones. Who would have thought

Eminado · 07/01/2016 16:40

Christine I think you should add lip balm for yourself.

Bikini/sports bra top if you plan to water birth and dont want to be naked.

Flip flops for shower.

For baby i would add vaseline for the first few poos as they are hard to get off.

I think you should advise your partner what to bring for you snack wise - i gave birth at 2am, so no dinner was nil by mouth till the morning shift change and obvs - i was nearly crying with hunger by the time he came back Smile

TattieHowkerz · 07/01/2016 16:41

Go for it Christine!

If you are as lazy as me you'll love how easy breastfeeding can be (no faffing with measuring out powder and boiling water at stupid o'clock) and how it helps you fall asleep again quickly. Even though DD is 4.5 and I stopped feeding 2 years ago, I can still fall asleep about 30 seconds!

Eminado · 07/01/2016 16:44

Congrats to all those with lovely scan pics.

Hello to all the new joiners.

Rainbow Flowers you are in my prayers.

Christinedonna · 07/01/2016 16:48

Thank you eminado I will add all of that!
And yeah I'm looking forward to just cuddling and not having to fuss about the bottles and being up and down in the night. It's just a bond that you cant go back and get when its too late

peamad · 07/01/2016 16:56

Eek got my midwife booking appointment tomorrow and just received my scan date - 4th February. It's starting to feel more real!

Jw35 · 07/01/2016 17:22

Well GlenCo I used the baby bath for weeks! Bathing with baby was lovely but I didn't always feel like it and baby was easier to wash in the baby bath! I just had it in the big bath, then we moved on to a bath seat. Your 5 days ahead of me, sickness is bloody awful isn't it? I just left my 12 year old giving my one year old dinner. Can't even sit at the table Sad all I've managed this afternoon is a couple of oatcakes and a banana. I've been retching a bit but not actually sick.

Christine breastfeeding is lovely if you can do it . I breastfed a bit for the first 3 weeks with my dd. I never intended to do it for long. Personally prefer bottle feeding long term.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 07/01/2016 18:12

Ah fair enough Jw, I will be truthful here and admit that DD didn't get washed that often in the early days Blush and oh the sickness is awful!! I've pretty much started just skipping dinner as can't face it. Had to put 2 weeks worth of bins out this eve, was trying not to think about it, blegh. Had plain noodles with raw carrots and a tiny bit of soy sauce for dinner and it was the most successful dinner I've had for yonks! Am off to make some more, very pleased with myself to have found something I can actually eat.

hgleslie89 · 07/01/2016 18:35

I'm still dealing with the nausea at 10+3, but find if I eat I feel a lot better. Had an amazing (well done) steak with spinach last night, so getting my iron levels up!

SharyBobbins · 07/01/2016 19:09

Received a letter for my early bird and booking in appointment this afternoon but I think I'm going to have to rearrange them both Blush They've booked them in for Monday and Friday next week but I don't think I'll be able to get the time off work and I won't have had my reassurance scan by that point. I intend on telling my boss after the early scan so after the 16th time off for appointments shouldn't be a problem (fingers crossed!).

The letter said that I would be offered tests at the booking in appointment that I need to think about them before hand. Does anyone know what tests they are? The letter didn't say!

OwlinaTree · 07/01/2016 19:27

If you are breast feeding Christine I would advise Lansinol cream for the nipples. Really helps with healing. It's expensive, around £10 a tube but really helps. Also I found the muslin square really useful to wipe up baby spit up, excess milk and to cover myself when breast feeding out and about. Make sure the nighties you pack open at the front so you can get your boob out to feed!

Eminado · 07/01/2016 20:13

Might be obvious but dark coloured nighties are helpful to conceal stains --esp if you have to walk past loads of
Dads/visitors to get to nurses station when you need more painkillers--

Eminado · 07/01/2016 20:14

Strikethrough fail!

Jw35 · 07/01/2016 20:30

GlenCo I had carrot, cucumber and cherry tomatoes with dips and that worked for me tonight! I think plain is so much easier. Though I'll like something one day and not the next which is pants! Also went into pret a manager yesterday and had a feta, beetroot, squash and cous cous salad and it was great. I'd been worried about town because I didn't know where to go for lunch. I kept thinking if I went into somewhere like Pizza Hut I'd probably eat 1 slice or something and waste money!

PickleBot · 07/01/2016 20:51

Evening all, I've been lurking for a while due to a lack of anything to say.

I had a call from my mw today to say my bloods showed slightly high sugar readings. I've got to go to the hospital to have a fasting test on Monday morning. Luckily my parents are still here so they can take DS to school. She said it's probably just a glitch and not to worry. I can't believe I'm 10w today! When did that happen? I think my nesting instinct has started, I'm planning a major re-organise of just about everything and got 2 new sets of shelves at idea yesterday.

Christine don't forget some wet wipes, maternity pads and if you are going to BF then some lanisho nipple cream. I second the HUGE pants (fwiw you may never go back, lots don't!).

FourForYouGlenCoco · 07/01/2016 21:06

Shary I expect the tests are just the blood tests that check you for rubella immunity, genetic blood disorders (sickle cell anaemia & thalassemia) and infections (syphilis, hepatitis, HIV). Purely because those are the things that will impact a pregnancy most and have an effect on care planning, etc. They will probably also discuss screening with you - ie the 12 week scan and the 20w anomaly scan. Nothing to be worried about!
Jw yes definitely, the plainer the better frankly! Am also into veg & stuff at the minute which is great. I've not put on any weight so far (which is how I know this whacking great lump on my front is baby's fault!).
Pickle hopefully all goes well on Monday, did you just have loads of sweets or something that day?! Sure it was just a one off! Send some of your nesting instinct this way please, my instincts are still just telling me to lay around doing as little as possible unfortunately. Need a bit of motivation back!

squigglepants · 07/01/2016 21:39

You can never have enough muslins in my experience! I am in love with the Cuski ones, they are so soft and cuddly.

Jw35 · 07/01/2016 21:50

Hope all is ok pickle. What's a fasting test? I can't imagine having an empty stomach id be sick!

Ah Muslins! You need loads, and bibs!

PickleBot · 07/01/2016 22:16

And more muslins.

Nothing but sips of water from 10pm until the test at 9 JW

FourForYouGlenCoco · 08/01/2016 10:34

Oooh it's all gone quiet! Hope everyone's ok.
First full day back at preschool for DD so I have a blissful free day. Loads to do and I should really motivate myself to get up and get sorted, but I think I'll stay on the sofa, catch up on homeland and finish the hat I'm knitting for DD Smile

hgleslie89 · 08/01/2016 10:57

Has anybody else experienced abdominal pain? I had really bad pains about 10 days ago and it's back today. My original fear of an ectopic pregnancy was ruled out at the scan so I think it must be trapped wind, but it's really painful! Managing it with a hot water bottle for the moment, but I'm worried it's going to happen again when I'm at work and I won't be able to roll around groaning.

Eminado · 08/01/2016 11:03

Hi

I have been quiet because

  1. I found going back to work a nightmare. It's year end (work in finance) so i am swamped and i am exhausted all the time. I just want to go home and lie down! The nausea has been off the scale - the loo is MILES from my desk - and someone commented that I was snacking a lot. I wanted to swear at them. I am NEVER normally like that. This is a very angry pregnancy for me so far - my DH is giving me the rage by just being. I cannot wait for this stage to pass. I was very chilled out with my DD - positively serene. This is horrible.
  1. I am shattered in the evenings and doing bath and bed with DD is just the final straw. I cant bear 98% of food smells so cooking dinner is just a joke; in fact I have stopped I just cant be bothered. Poor DH.
  1. I saw the GP to "announce" my pregnancy in Dec (15th) and she was lovely and wished us all the luck after last MC and referred me for an early scan. I have tried to be as chilled as possible but yes, after losing the baby last time I have been anxious so I have literally been clock watching, or rather post watching, for ages. I knew Christmas and NY would delay things but the 15th was a good ten days before Christmas.

Anyway yesterday after still no post I just callled the EPU at my hospital to find out what sort of timescale they are working with. Reason for asking is that if the scan is going to be weeks away I might decide to go for a private one but if it's imminent I might decide to wait. It then transpires that I am not on the system. I was like "can you please check as my GP faxed the referral right in front of me?"

She then tells me that my referral has been sitting on the fax machine.
Since the 15th of December.
I said "so you've not checked the fax machine since 16th Dec and it's the 7th of Jan?"
And she was like "we've been really busy".
Erm - for more than 20 days?

She then goes oh there loads of ladies' referrals there.

WTAF????

So I am HIGHLY irritated now. HIGHLY. I have been waiting all this time!
FFS!

and breathe

Christinedonna · 08/01/2016 11:04

I had cramps in the beginning. Then a few days ago woke up with a horrible stomach ache but it turned out to be trapped wind

Christinedonna · 08/01/2016 11:22

Need a bit of advice. My boss has been brilliant with me being pregnant, he said his wife was really mistreated when she was pregnant so wants to make sure I don't feel the same. Any time off I have that's pregnancy related gets wiped off my record and doesn't affect my attendance so I'm actually on 100% I've had a few days off now but still just feel awful! Do I just take comfort in him being supportive and not rush myself to get back, or do I push myself to go in?
